Peaceful family getaway with adult children

The house was spacious and had every amenity we needed for a relaxing get away, including a well-stocked kitchen for cooking our own meals. Our hosts were extremely warm and friendly, and they provided us with many tips and recommendations that helped make our stay that much better. We were so glad for the opportunity to stay at this property for our first family getaway in years.

Nice House In Good Location For Active Vacation

This is a very nice house with lovely owners. It's in a great location if you want to do hiking / biking - close to some great hikes and in a mercifully flat part of the Berkshires so you can ride right from the house without killing yourself! (Also good ski location in winter.) It's less well suited for a lounge-in-the-yard-and-read vacation because it's quite buggy outside (river runs behind it, fiercely defended by the mosquitoes) and there aren't any lounge chairs (probably because of the bugs). The house is set way back from the (not too busy) road so it's pretty quiet. There is sometimes a faint country odor, probably from the dairy farm perhaps a half mile down the road - this really is country even though Great Barrington is close by. The Library Room was perfect for one in our group who had a lot of Zoom meetings. There is a formal dining room that we didn't use at all. The refrigerator and pantry shelves were totally filled, and guests are invited to eat whatever they'd like. This arrangement could be convenient for short stays or if you are going to eat dinners out but coming for two weeks with lots of food we had to start by making room for our own stuff. The owners report they're in the process of replacing the deck (it needs it) and presumably the deck chairs as well (also needed). A big deck fan blows away 100% of mosquitoes! The deck is great for eating and the new one should be terrific. (There's also a comfortable kitchen table plus bar stool seating at the counter.) Overall, the house has the feeling of being invited to use someone's home while they're away, with a definite sense that the owners stay here a lot and enjoy it.

Great house, amazing kitchen

This was a very nice stay. The house has an unbelievable kitchen with an incredible selection of every pot and pan imaginable. Truly a gourmet’s dream. It was rather hot the week we stayed and the AC was great. The master bathroom is huge, with the largest steam shower I have been in, it must have been 8’x6’ or larger. The hosts were super nice and helpful. Made everything easy. WiFi worked well. My only reservation was some mosquitoes managed to find their way into the house. Not sure exactly how.

Lovely Fall Family Vacation

Candace and Charles were lovely hosts fussing over making sure we had All the comforts of home. This large colonial home is setback from the country road in a stunning bucolic setting with acres of open land and a clearing with a river in the far end of the property. The home was positioned such that every room had glorious views of greenery, landscaping, trees, birds, dear and even glimpses of cows roaming across the river bank. Nature at its finest. The only glitch was a power outage Which affected the entire region but it was fixed over night and Candace talked us through using candles and keeping up with the progress of notifications from the electric company. This spacious home was perfect for a vacation with our two adult daughters and our small poodle. We enjoyed the gorgeous decor and bedding choices in each of the bedrooms which had overhead ceiling fans for our comfort. The steam shower was just the perfect anecdote to our hiking and kayaking expeditions. The kitchen and dining room were larger than we needed but perfect for several of us simultaneously preparing foods for our dietary needs. We spent a lot of time in Great Barrington, Stockbridge and West Stockbridge and enjoyed a visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum. The Bistro Box Was our go to outdoor place to eat. We visited Guidos daily for prepared food or unique ingredients and recommend the adjacent Big Y. Our favorite dinner out was at Aegean Breeze in GB.

Gorgeous Place, Lovely Hosts

This is a very beautiful and homey house! It is filled with beautiful, thoughtful and caring touches throughout. It is situated in one of the most gorgeous places in nature. And, we enjoyed every moment of staying there for 11 wonderful days this May! Also, Candace and Charles are very welcoming, kind and caring hosts -- which I find to be very important! I felt welcomed long before we even arrived at the house. Candace called to make sure that we had everything we needed, from entry instructions to kitchen appliances. I would highly recommend this beautiful place and these wonderful hosts! My family and I are looking forward to visiting again later this year!

Beautiful home in a great location

Candace and Charles were consummate hosts. Their home is warm and inviting, perfect for a family ski getaway. Local farms were a fantastic resource for farm to table steak dinners. The rooms and amenities were as advertised and more than enough for two families with kids The dogs enjoyed romping outside and taking jaunts down to the river in the back of the property. We look forward to a return trip.

Beautiful, well furnished home. Great location.

We rented this home for July-August, 2014. Roomy, luxuriously furnished house with great working kitchen. Attractive grounds with inspiring mountain views to south and west. Close to Route 7 for easy drive to Great Barrington, Stockbridge, Lenox, etc. Caring, friendly and responsive owners really made us feel at home.

About the host

Host profile image
We had this home custom built to be our elegant, comfortable year round home. It has all the furnishings and amenities we love and wish to share this lovely home with you. It is our year-round residence and we make it available for occasional short term rental at various points during the year.

Why they chose this property

It is both private and beautiful. It is an easy drive to all of the Berkshire attractions and of course a very easy drive from NYC or Boston. In the winter we are very close to Butternut, Catamont, and Jimminy Peak for great skiing. After a day of skiing what could be more relaxing than an hour spent in the steamroom off the Master Bedroom!
During the Summer we have Tanglewood and the beautiful view off of our back deck. Enjoy the abundant wildlife, a birders paradise. Spend some time splashing in the river. In the winter enjoy time around the fire after a great meal.

What makes this property unique

Enjoy the quiet beautiful privacy of the library and relax in the Steam Room in the master bath. It is a great home to spend some relaxing time away from the rush of daily life. Breathe deep and relax.
Close to museums, the great, special, grocery store, Guidos, as well as Stop and Shop.
Tons of fabulous restaurants in Great Barrington;
antique shops are everywhere or go to the Lee Outlet center.
Close to skiing and all attractions.
