About this property

Come join us. Our 800 square foot beach cottage offers a peaceful place to relax or a nice play to stay while you are here for some quiet relaxation at the spacious beach or for some fishing.

Built in 2013, our cottage is nestled among trees for additional privacy, but you can easily walk from our second row home to the beach (with miles of white sandy beach) or to the ferry to spend a day on Ocracoke.

Just beyond the ferry is a boat launch where you can launch your boat at no charge and it is next to another long stretch of beach. Cedar Island has sounds, bays and marshes to explore, so it's a great place to do some fishing and hunting in season. Local fishing and hunting guide services (in season) are available.

The cottage has a downstairs bedroom with 3 twin beds and upstairs features 1 queen bed. And with the queen-size sleeper sofa in the living room, our cottage can sleep up to seven. There is one full bath with tub downstairs and 1/2 bath upstairs plus an additional outside shower. Bed linens and towels are provided. Beds will be already made up in advance of your arrival. Additional towels are in the downstairs closet.

The kitchen is equipped with stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker, pots and pans, plates, kitchen utensils, etc. You can dine on the screened in porch and enjoy the salt air while listening to the waves and the sea birds.

We offer free wireless WiFi to allow you to stay connected (using Brightspeed DSL). The living room also has a flat screen smart TV (with antenna limited to local channels weather permitting) with DVD with movies. You can also access your own streaming account (Amazon, Netflix, etc.) to watch your choice of content available from those services.

If you are seeking water activities, you can bring your kayak or canoe or rent them at the campground across the street. Horseback riding on the beach is also available. We are also happy to suggest local captains for boat rides or fishing. Or we are located about 40 minutes from historic towns of Beaufort and Morehead City where you can shop, dine, etc.

Come enjoy our secluded beach cottage away from the hustle and bustle for some relaxation, walking on the beach or enjoying some outdoor activities. We welcome pets (maximum 2 pets). Pets are permitted on the beach all year long (local lease law applies). We look forward to your visit.

Cedar Island Beauty

We really enjoyed our stay. Great place to stay at when you are visiting Ocracoke. You can literally walk to the ferry from the house. Great value overall. The house is clean and nice. Comfortable and cozy. Small house but with big views. House is perfect for family of 4. Thanks again. Great job. 😀😎 See you again soon. Oh. The next door neighbors are rude. They leave music playing all day long even when they are not home. If you can’t beat them join them. Play your own music back at them!! The neighbors need to get their music under control. LoL. It really didn’t bother us but we thought it was odd. Like who does that

Immaculate Coastal Cottage

I can highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a stay in Cedar Island. Beautiful water views off the large screened in porch, large loft with private bath and a bedroom with 3 twin beds made this the perfect cottage for our group. Property was very clean and well stocked and the owner was an absolute pleasure to deal with. We look forward to booking again in the future.

Beach Life

The screened in porch was so comfortable. We watched the lightning cross the ocean. With the hurricane coming towards us we wished we had better cell service or WiFi (which we were informed was on its way sometime soon) so we called our trip a day early. Taking the ferry to Ocracoke and having our kids step into the ocean and live a little beach life was the main goal of our trip and we accomplished this. The house was clean and comfortable.

Cedar Island Getaway

We enjoyed our stay at John & Becky's place. The layout worked great for our family of 5. The house is convenient to the beach and amenities at Cedar Island Ranch where we rented kayaks one day. Bedrooms and bathrooms were clean with plenty clean towels/washcloths.

Nice visit

Great location, nice accommodations! Just one issue with the next door neighboors blasting country music at all hours, into the late night, even sometimes when they weren't home. Could be heard through the walls past 10 pm. Other than that it was perfect.

Nice getaway!

We had a wonderful time in Cedar Island! The house was nice and in a very quiet area. Just a short walk to the beach. Added bonus being able to bring the pups! We were able to go on a fishing charter and ride horses on the beach. Just a disclaimer- the water is not deep, not really a swimming beach, but was great for the dogs and great for putting a beach chair in the water and reading. Very laid back town, and not crowded at all-its definitely away from all the hustle and bustle. Also, come prepared! There is a variety store with some groceries but it’s about 40 minutes to the nearest grocery store. The house was exactly as described. The owners were a phone call when we had a few questions and were very friendly. We look forward to coming back again!

Secluded and serene

The whole family had a fabulous time. The property is remote and private; so remote, in fact, that I strongly suggest a grocery shopping trip along the way to the destination, as it can be a long trip back into town for any non-general wants or needs. That said, there are a couple stores nearby in a pinch. Anyway, the destination is well worth the drive. The house itself is spotless and tidy. There were plenty of clean towels and bedding at our disposal. We did have a connectivity issue with the Wi-Fi, and I’m not sure whether that was due to operator error or to hardware problems. The neighbors were friendly, too! If you want to take your vacation days slowly, quietly, away from the hustle and bustle of tourist towns, this is your place. The beach is visible from the house, and is breathtaking from any distance.

Nice getaway

This nice property is literally within walking distance to the ferry that can be taken to Ocracoke Island. The screened in porch is a nice touch and the living quarters were very cozy. Not much activity going on in Cedar Island in April, but that is what we were looking for. We were able to relax and enjoy the views and coastal area. Visited Ocracoke during our stay...a must see if you vacation here.

Sweet cottage

Enjoyed our three-day stay despite gale-force winds and rains. This cute house held us well. The home has a number of beds - the one dedicated bedroom (the other one is a beautiful loft that overlooks the living room) has three single beds- some mattresses are comfier than others. The living space does not have a dining room table or anywhere to sit to eat except two bar chairs at the counter. We enjoyed sitting on the porch to eat (where there is a table and chairs) and would've enjoyed that more if not for the rain. We love cedar island- it's a very quiet NC beach off the beaten path - there are horses that walk along the beach - and a ferry that goes to okracoke several times a day. Two beaches on either side of the ferry to explore and dog friendly. The only suggestions we'd make is that a new trash can be purchased for the kitchen (I see a reviewer made this suggestion nearly a year ago)- the lid doesn't stay on so the trash is left wide open . And lastly, the front doorknob is in serious need of repair. We struggled repeatedly to get out of the house as the knob turns without opening. You'll want to bring your own groceries as it's a far ride to get to any place with a good variety of options though there is a gas station/market close by that can help you get by in a pinch. We reached our to the owner with a question and she responded kindly and quickly.

3 day break

A few friends and I stayed there during the off-season. The rental was clean and nice. We had enough to get by when it came to cooking, but if we stay there again, I would probably bring some extra supplies, and I would defiantly stop before I get to the island for food and ice. It's walking distance to a bar/restaurant but after one experience we would rather cook and hang out at the rental. Overall I would recommend it and if we come back I'll probably stay there again.

Perfect Beaches

Our group really enjoyed our long weekend, it would have been tight for a longer trip with 7 of us...but for the weekend it was PERFECT! The outdoor shower was great and came in very handy with sandy wet children! The beach and sound was beyond perfect for our group. The kids could wade and play and moms could sit and relax. So much to explore, beautiful scenery, and we lucked out with perfect weather! The screened in porch was great and really helped keep the bugs at bay! The kitchen was stocked enough for us, but we knew to bring as much as we could with us because of the remoteness--which was just what we liked! We have already talked about going back!

Pros: - Clean, no visible sand or bugs, sheets and bath towels seemed clean (with exception of small hand towels and kitchen towels) - Owner was very responsive via text and dropped off hand soap and salt the next afternoon when we had reached out the night prior requesting that we have some - Beach access is very close via car Cons: - No salt when we arrived at the Vrbo - Trash can was broken, need to lift lid up by hand (instead of foot) - No clean dish sponges available; only available dish sponge was a used one - No hand soap in bathroom; seems that owners do not check if everything is stocked prior to guests arriving (hand soap also smells unpleasant) - Bring your own kitchen knives; the ones at the property are quite dull and frankly not safe to use - Directions to the beach are not written in the binder; it was confusing to find the correct way to the beach on foot--not within walking distance if you want to bring beach supplies or children with you - Not indicated by owner that there would be construction next door to the property

Cozy, efficient beach cabin.

Remarkably roomy for such small square footage, really nicely laid out with all basic appointments. Loved the porch and outside shower! Missed a few of our usual kitchen conveniences, even so the tight space lent itself successfully to some fairly complex cooking tasks. All utility connections were acceptable and we only had one a/c hiccup that was solved by the host in an hour. Sweet and cozy home and really excellent hosting, all things considered.

Your host

John and Becky live on Cedar Island. We are blessed to have two sons. Our married son also has a granddaughter -- who is a joy to all of us.

John grew up on Cedar Island, is a commercial fisherman and offers fishing and hunting guide services. Becky also grew up Down East and currently works in a healthcare facility.
