Rustic North Woods historic cabin
Just stayed at the Big Chip escape. Pictures don't do justice to the unique and nostalgic cabin with the best view of the lake of any cabin on the Chip. Gary was hospitable and available whenever we had a question. The cabin itself is a unique North Woods experience with all of the features that a group from 5-14 would need.

Great fishing destination
Great location on a great big body of water that provided great fishing (once getting really good tips from Gary and local bait store) Really good conveniences on site like piers, firewood live minnows, fish cleaning house! The cabin is old school and very rustic. The bar is cool as is the deck. Gary the owner was extremely nice and friendly. All the fishing conveniences you could ask for! We will be back

Good place for the boys
The location is beautiful, the owner is nice and helpful, and the lodge has a lot of neat stuff in it. But if you have folks that like things a bit less rustic and clean then this may not be for you. There were mouse droppings on the counters and in each cabinet and drawer in the kitchen. Luckily we brought paper plates and utensils.

Annual Hayward Vacation
This was our 4th year at Big Chip Lodge. We really enjoy the lodge as it is right on the lake and we can swim and dock boats/jet ski on lakefront shore. We caught MANY fish right off the piers!! Gary, the owner, has minnows worms, and leeches for sale at a shed by the pier We love the size of the lodge as there are 11 people and a dog. The bar allows us to all eat/socialize/play games together, as well as watch TV and monitor the lakefront/shore area where children are playing. Absolutely love the new sliding patio door to the huge deck!! There is plenty of storage area in the kitchen and pantry for all food and 2 fridges and a huge freezer. There are plenty of bedrooms/sleeping areas for all to be comfy and private. The owner is right next door for questions and help or to come and have fun by the campfire. We also rent the pontoon for all to go out on the lake together. We highly recommend Big Chip Lodge and will continue to vacation there next year as well!!

A blast from the past
This place is old and has a lot of history. And with that age and history comes a lot of quirks. If you are wanting a modern floor plan and everything straight and new this probably isn't the place for you. However, for our group it was perfect. The quirkiness and rustic charms were perfectly fine for us. The kitchen is designed for three people or more to cooking at the same time, which was a huge bonus for our group. There's no air conditioning in the main bar room which wasn't a big deal as the week we were there it was in the low 70s but there is two functional ceiling fans above the bar. 3 of the 4 bedrooms have window a/c. If you like to fish the bait shop that is right there at the edge of the water on the property is pretty ideal. Access to the fishing and pontoon boats is a nice perk. Having Gary right next door is helpful. He's a very nice guy and a good resource to answer any questions you might have about the lake or fishing. The lake has many destination spots where the pontoon boat comes in handy. We already booked the place again for next year so that sums it up.

Amazing Place for an Up North Vacation
The lodge/cabin was everything you would want for an old Northwoods Wisconsin feel. So much history on the walls and on the bar. The bar had an amazing view of the lake, as did the deck and the fire pit. It might be a little on the rustic side for some, but it was perfect for us and exactly what one should expect from an old Northwoods cabin. The place was very room and had everything one would need for a big group and the easy access to the piers were great for keeping my boat close. Gary is an amazing host as well. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. It was great to hear more from him about the property and the area. We would love to come back again in the future.

An enjoyable stay lake front
Our families enjoyed our stay at Skilly's Lodge. The building is somewhat rustic and shows it's age but has much character with the bar and all the lake memorabilia around. During the rainy days our group of 11 easily stayed entertained in the large bar area. All the nice days and afternoons we were on the lake. Lake access is very convenient. Fisherman will love the live bait shack next to the dock and the rental pontoon was perfect for our large group. Thanks Skilly!

Have been coming to Skilly's Big Chip Lodge for nearly 10 years and will continue to make the trip
The location is incredible overlooking Moore's Bay. Easy access to ice fishing and there is a private dock for the summer months. The bar room is the centerpoint of the cabin and makes an excellent spot for groups to gather. Gary is always available to answer questions or help out if needed.

View was amazing. Cabin was interesting. We had a awesome time. The 15 seat bar is actually in your cabin. Not an active bar anymore but very cool. No bars in walking distance that were open. It was early November so i am sure most resort bars close down.

Fall Fishing In Hayward...
Gary's place was as advertised and fit our needs well. We ended up having four adults for three nights. This is a unique property, formerly a bar and has ample sleeping arrangements upstairs for larger groups. I wouldn't stay here with my wife and kids, but with three buddies it was perfect, and Gary was more than accessible and accommodating.

Another year having a fantastic vacation!!
This was our 3rd year staying at this property. We are 6 adults and 5 kids ranging from 4 to 10 years old. The bar is a perfect way for all of us to enjoy time and meals together. The kitchen is stocked with all the cooking supplies that you will need. The lakefront is fantastic for playing/swimming in the water or docking your boat. The lake is wonderful for boating, jet skiing, fishing or going to a sandbar for lunch. Gary, the owner, is always available to answer questions, give fishing advice, sit at the campfire and sing songs or play guitar and be a great host. We have it booked again for next year!!

I moved to Cabin One next door to the Lodge in 2016. I've had a varied life as a commercial illustrator, childcare center owner, commercial fisherman, beverage salesman, small business entrepreneur, guitar player and insurance man. I recently earned my insurance license and started GWSkillys Insurance in 2022. I'm also the father of four beautiful children and 12, 7 3 and 3 months year old granddaughters. And in the picture is my very special girlfriend, Mame.

Why they chose this property

This property has the best view and the most desirable access to great fishing, skiing and hunting on Big Chip! Total wilderness across the lake and South. NO houses. You'll think you're in Canada. The Chequemagon National Forest will stay like this forever.Think of the money your group will save by having your own bar!

What makes this property unique

A huge deck, knotty pine construction, beautiful fireplace room, dock and great view make this place. Bring the dog. Then there's the historic bar filled with pictures of days gone by. Think of the money your group will save by having your own bar! Relax without feeling like you're on pins and needles around the furnishings. We sell bait and firewood to save time. I still see something new there as I eat my breakfast and look out over Big Chip. Awesome. Moore's Bay fills with crappie, walleye and musky in the Fall. Everyone on the lake comes right out front of the Lodge for excellent fishing every Fall. I will guide fishing trips to get you acquainted with the lake. Also do lake tours. There's water skiing just out front. Always something going on here.
