Peaceful and Beautiful place to Reflect on Life!
We arrived at 11pm driving thru pitch black darkness. As u can imagine, property was hard to find but eventually we found it after getting out of the truck walking around the trails. The check in instructions were very easy to follow and we found the keys, then unlocked the door. WOW! we all said together lol this cabin is nice and cozy. It has a welcoming feeling of loving grandparents. My 9yr old son noticed the yellow phone on the wall and said "Mom, is that a phone on the wall?" He picked it up and said "OMG! It works! But how do u dial the phone number so I can call check up on grandma?" I had to explain to him how to use a ROTARY DIAL phone lol That phone brought back so much found memories of the 70-80's, it was just like being at my mom's house again. So far so good! We checked out the entire cabin and it's very rustic and well loved. The bed mattress is very bouncy (wasn't use to that as we have foam mattress at home) but we slept well. The next morning we woke up to see the BEAUTY of the woods! We missed so much driving up in the night time. The property is amazing and peaceful with a slight cool gentle breeze. We walked for 2 mins to get to the creek and it was a bummer to see the drought. There was hardly any water left in the creek. It has now turned into an ankle high babbling brook with tons of algae but that didn't stop the children from playing in it and they still had fun! We had no TV (antenna line was disconnected?) No internet or cell phone service, so it was GREAT! to see the children play using their imagination! Cooking in the kitchen was awesome! Love the stove, it heats up boiling water in less then 2 mins! Convection oven heats up fast and stays warm for a long time after u turn it off. The fridge kept everything very cold and the BBQ grill is perfection! It had a full tank of propane and was cleaned ready for the next grilling! We celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary, then next day was my bday and the day after that was my husband's bday! We had some family come up to camp over night in their tent with the children and they said it wasn't cold at night, they slept well and to wake up looking at the beautiful redwood trees was amazing! Thank you very much to the Smith family for letting our family enjoy your property! We feel very blessed to have come to a place like this! God bless you and your family always!

Joy in the Redwoods
This property is pure magic! I stayed with my two granddaughters and we thoroughly enjoyed preparing our meals inside and on the gas grill and even over the fire in the fire pit! We had everything we needed. It was a nice respite to be electronically disconnected and the landline stil provides an opportunity for emergency contact if needed. I would enjoy just visiting this space on my own for a weekend - if I lived closer! my contacts with Mike were always warm, friendly and informative.

Quiet place amongst the trees
We had the best time here. Very quiet and relaxing. The cabin is as described. Very quaint, nice neighbors, no cell service (it was nice to unplug), kitchen had everything we needed and pretty close to Monte Rio and Guerneville (best ice cream ever - Guerneville Bank Club). Mike was a great host and very responsive. We will be staying here again in the near future.

Super cute and family friendly!
Overall a truly awesome and super cute cabin! Loved all the extras including the sand toys, games, s’more roasting sticks and the beautiful shaded scenery! Loved waking up to the birds every morning . Loved having room for our tent trailer too although the driveway is extremely narrow!!!! The creek was super fun to walk along even though quite low this time of year. The construction noise and traffic from the highway was a bit distracting but the family all had a great time hanging out and reconnecting! Thanks again Mike!

Cabin in the redwoods
We loved this little cabin right smack in the middle of a redwood grove. So peaceful and beautiful. Lots of games for our granddaughter to play with us. Comfy bed. Fine kitchen. Great deck to eat on and lovely fire pit.

NOT FANCY BUT PERFECT
I wanted a quiet place in the redwoods that wasn’t fancy or fussy, and this was perfect! The property is gorgeous and situated just above the river, in the shade of giant redwoods and fragrant cedars. The wood burning stove made evenings inside the cabin cozy and warm on a rainy chilly night. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything I needed and more. The bed was very comfortable, with nice sheets and blankets. The decks of the cabin feel like they expand the walls of the cabin seamlessly into the outdoors, allowing the beautiful elements of the forest to blend in with the cabin. The outdoor fire pit was delightful… like camping … without the tent and the luxury of sleeping in a real bed. Big fridge, great stove, lots of spices, plenty of pots and pans, glasses, mixing bowls and flatware. My only disappointment was with the shower, which seriously needs new walls. Water pressure was fine and tile floor base of the shower is a beautiful azure blue. But the walls need to be replaced. Other than that, it was perfect! Not fancy, not pristine, not spotless…. But everything I hoped for and more than I expected. It’s is a stunningly beautiful spot in a location that feels a million miles from life’s troubles, and a 10 minute drive to fabulous restaurants and wineries tucked along the Russian River. The outdoor opportunities along the coast are endless, with hiking trails, beaches, tide pools, and turnouts where you can capture photos of the magnificent views of the rugged coastline. It’s a perfect place to slow down and embrace the quiet. My compliments to the Smiths and my thanks for the hospitality.

Cozy Cabin & Stress Free Time
My husband and I were looking forward to getting away for a relaxing and stress free time. We found it here. The bed was extremely comfortable. The fire place insert really warmed up the cabin and was delightful to sit by. I just wish they provided the firewood. However, everything else we needed was available. Plus a 5 minute drive to the best coffee in Duncan Mills for our morning lattes added to our delight. After spending the day at nearby Goat Beach, we returned to enjoy a glass of wine outdoors by the fire pit right off the creek which was fun to explore.

Relaxing weekend
This is a rustic but very comfortable property. There are neighbors around but we never saw or heard anyone else. It was very peaceful and quiet. The kitchen is fully stocked with all of the needed equipment for preparing meals and bottled drinking water was provided. We did have a communication gap with the check in process as the owner had forgotten to email me the instructions but I was able to reach him and got it worked out. The wood burning stove was awesome for keeping the cabin cozy warm (be prepared for some time to get the cabin warmed up as the space heaters will be off when you arrive). My son loved the creek down below and if the weather had been warmer we probably would have spent some time swimming in it. We likely will return for another stay.

Just what we needed.
This cabin was perfect for our weekend getaway. The creek is literally in the back yard. The ocean and beaches were just a short drive west while town to get supplies was a short drive east. Exactly what we needed to recharge the batteries.

Quaint cabin on special land. Very comfortable, everything you need, just bring pajamas! The new deck is a real plus. The owner is a good land steward. This place has been well loved. We hope to return when warmer to enjoy Austin Creek. Thanks to firefighters... Prayers for rain.

A memorable birthday celebration
Loved this cabin in the redwoods! We loved the easy access to Austin creek. We went to the creek a couple times each day. Beautiful setting, private and quaint. We cooked all of meals there with the exception of a burger at The Cazadero General Store after we checked out yesterday. The weather was beautiful, especially for January. We look forward to returning.

Very quiet
We were there when it rained and so it was dark and gloomy, yet in a beautiful setting. The cabin is totally surrounded by trees so no sun gets through. (I bet it is great during the summer!) There was a power outage for five hours during the day, thankfully, because we were not prepared and even though there were several lanterns for decor, there was nothing for lighting except the woodburner which we thoroughly enjoyed. We did have some trouble reading the map provided for the location of the cabin since it is tucked behind others. Also, I could not find any dish rags or dish towels, (I bought some) so I could do the dishes. Otherwise, kitchen has everything you need. For the most part, we were very pleased and enjoyed our time there.

Not VRBO ready
Worse VRBO stay. The kitchen light switch was a problem. Had to toggle switch just perfectly up/down for the main kitchen light to come on. Tried the switch next to the refrigerator and had same problem. Evidently, not the switch at all but perhaps a short or faulty wiring. We looked for smoke alarms and could not find one anywhere in the cabin. Not in the living room, kitchen or bedroom. There was a carbon monoxide alarm located between the kitchen and the living room. It was strictly a carbon monoxide detector that is a stand alone unit only for carbon monoxide with no other protections, (we have the same model in our home). The living room carpet that sits under the coffee table was filthy with dirt and had stains on it. Not vacuumed. I picked it up and there was LOTS of dirt under the rug. So gross. I picked up the rug and shook it out in the yard, rolled it up and leaned it against the refrigerator. We did not use this rug. I went to move the leather recliner and there was a bunch of Cheerios under the recliner from a previous tenant. The small sectional couch had stains which appeared to be pee stains from a male dog in the corner that went up diagonally. I read on previous reviews that the cleaning person lives close by and perhaps could have called the owner to have him/her come over and take care of at least the dirty floor. But it was the evening of 12/23 and we were both tired from driving. Calling on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day was not an option. We wanted our privacy and no hassles on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It was 50 degrees in the house when arrived so we used the electric heaters temporarily just until we could get the fire going. It constantly tripped the breaker and we had to go outside and turn it on. We should have known better to use so many heaters at once. The bathroom shower was disgusting, so much that we both did not take a shower in the three nights we were there. It is a cedar shower that had rotten wood 4-6 inches from the bottom due to the moisture. It did not appear to be mildew, but was rotten, damaged wood. Not sure which outside trash container to use as they are not marked. Perhaps using a piece of gorilla tape marked with your address would be helpful. Kitchen was well stocked and the cupboards were clean. Nice outside shady area setting walking distance to Austin Creek. We are seasoned VRBO users and this the first for us to leave such a unfavorable review.

Very well appointed cozy cabin
The kitchen is very well equipped, with new appliances. The wood stove keeps the cabin toasty. The coast is 20 minutes away and there are so many lovely beaches. It was great to be able to have my dogs with me and they had their first run on the beach. Overall the cabin was clean and comfortable.

Wonderful cabin in wooded setting
Tho said to be only 620+ sq feet, I was amazed at the roominess of this adorable cabin! Large kitchen with dining nook, and any thing possible you would need for meal prep. Large living room with back door. And large bedroom with en suite bathroom. The weather was cold but we were toasty warm with the wood-burning stove and space heaters. You see redwoods out of every window, and park your car among them near the ft door. Beautiful wooded setting away from the bustle of traffic, yet close to Duncan Mills, Jenner, and even Bodega Bay where you'll find great food! You will love this cabin!!!

Better than advertised!
I wasn’t totally sure what to expect, but a quaint cabin in the woods with some water access was what we were seeking so I booked. The location of the Smith cabin cannot be beat. Yes, it is set in a grove of other cabins but whether it was luck or not, we barely saw anyone all weekend. So serene. We made multiple campfires, roasted s’mores, our dog and daughter played in the creek, and then we drove 20 minutes down the road to the ocean and Goat Rock Beach. Access to Russian River but close to the sea-simply awesome.

An excellent getaway!
The cabin was as advertised - a cozy retreat in the middle of the redwoods, beside a creek. We walked in the woods, splashed in the creek, BBQ'd, made smores, and played games. There was plenty to do nearby as well. It was an excellent retreat from the crowds of the city and the pandemic and everything else. Would definitely do it again.

We bought this cabin next to my parents cabin after a big storm had nearly destroyed it. We spent a year fixing it up, and have enjoyed it ever since. I grew up coming up here as a child, and was so lucky to give the same experience to my children. It's a wonderful place to simply be, to take time to nap, sleep, enjoy a creek, play hide-and-seek in the trees. It's lovely.

Why they chose this property

The long story is my father grew up going as a Boy Scout from San Francisco to Camp Royaneh in the 1930's, just up the road. After WW2, and he had married my Mom and adopted us kids, he wanted the same experience of getting away from the City, so he and my Mom bought the cabin. So I grew up going up here, my older brother went to Camp Royaneh, and we spent many summers here. So my husband and I bought the cabin next door, and my kids grew up being able to run back and forth from the cabins and spend time with their Grandparents. There is nothing like a Creek in the woods for a lesson in Ecology for children. They can see tadpoles become frogs, water skeeters chasing smaller bugs, trout eating flies. At night, we wander down to the Creek and shine flashlights over the water to see bats eating. In the Fall and Winter, when the rains come, the small creek becomes a small river, and the smell during and after the rain, well, it smells fresh and primeval, like the world did at the dawn of time. We welcome you to stay and find out for yourself.
