SPECIAL PRICING! !!

Welcome to OCEAN OVERLOOK VILLA, an oceanfront Caribbean home in the U.S. Virgin Islands that will transport you to a world of warmth and relaxation. Experience the roar of crashing waves and the delicate mist of warm saltwater as it crashes along the coast. This is a secluded piece of paradise overlooking turquoise water with turtles, rays and starfish. Walk to a semi-private beach where you can snorkel in privacy with waters all to yourself. The ocean may change daily. Some weeks it is like glass while others you can surf on the waves! If you're looking for a bustling tourist destination, this is not the place for you.

The property sits on a large, landscaped lot with few houses close by. The property has two units- the upstairs Villa and the downstairs apartment, which could be occupied during your stay. The Villa sleeps 6 and for larger families, we recommend also renting the apartment, perfect for parents or in -laws. (see VRBO property #671587). The Villa is equipped with a full kitchen, living room, dining table with 6 chairs, new AC in the bedrooms and living area, and french doors opening onto the deck from master bedroom, living room and dining room. Drag your toes through the warm and soothing sand. Whether you are seeking a peaceful retreat, a romantic getaway, or simply want to experience the natural wonders, you will find what you are looking for at Ocean Overlook Villa. Take your beach chairs and a glass of wine down to the beach and enjoy the privacy!

Ocean Overlook is only 10 minutes from Red Hook Harbor where ferries can take you to other islands, including Virgin Gorda with its beautiful rock formation and caves, St. John with prime snorkeling and hiking, and Jost Van Dyke with its sleepy Caribbean fishing villages.

Favorite Vacation Ever!
Helene's place was fantastic! We stayed the first week in June. Clean, comfortable, well supplied, and beautiful views. We stay in a lot of VRBOs and other vacation rentals. Helene's was one of the best place we have stayed for cleanliness and comfort. And we are picky. We stayed in the upstairs area. Helene was very responsive to all my questions before and during our trip. We had two maintenance issues which were immediately addressed. These were unpredictable issues, nothing due to lack of maintenance or neglect. We hated leaving and are already planning our next trip back. A few tips if you book this wonderful place. 1. The air conditioning consists of three window units. Helena asks you turn off air when you go out for the day. We suggest you also close the shutters. This prevents the house from heating up as much while you are gone. Most days when we returned we just opened up the house, including the screens on the doors to let the breeze in and never turned on the air until right before bed. Opening the screens really helps the air flow. 2. Bring water shoes for the beach below the house. 3. Bring reef safe sunscreen. Purchasing it here will set you back $26-$36 per bottle depending on which version you buy. 3. Consider purchasing beach chairs from the CostULess. Over the week they will pay for themselves in rental fees at the various public beaches. There were only two beach chairs when we were there. Maybe if you rent and purchase chairs they will be there for us next time! LOL! 4. And finally, the best place to buy groceries is Moe's in Redhook for price, variety, and quality. Prices are comparable if not less than most other grocery stores we found. CostULess is Costco. They do have some fresh produce, meats, drinks for individual sale unlike other Costcos, but the majority is still bulk. CostUless is the best place to purchase water, however. You will need drinking and cooking water, as her place is on a cistern. I hope you enjoy Helene's place as much as we did!

Amazing slice of heaven
Wow. This place was in the best spot we could imagine. Close to public beaches but private and literally steps to your own private beach. The ocean was a bit rough many days but on the calmer days snorkeled right at home and saw turtles, fish, coral, even a nurse shark!! Helene was great with communication and being prepared for things that might become an issue (like what to do if island lost power). We loved the games and beach paraphernalia at the house. If ever staying in st Thomas again, would for sure stay here!!

Stellar ocean views. Secure and gated home, a beautiful setting. Owner was super responsive.
Absolutely beautiful setting with superb view. The deck is hot in the afternoon and unshaded but breezes are frequent. Some shade would be great though. Binoculars or a telescope would be an excellent addition to this property. The owner is the most responsive I have ever encountered on VRBO answering all text questions within minutes, or less. The access road is gravel for the last few hundred meters. Our low profile Dodge handled it ok, but a jeep would be better. Not overly impressed with St Thomas itself, but neighboring St John is beautiful. Ferry is $53 round trip. Great food options nearby in Red Hook. I would definitely recommend this home: peaceful, beautiful and expansive ocean views with a terrific owner who really wants her clients to have a good time.

Great property and great location. Some strange policies but overall worth it!
This is a great location and property. The view is one of the best I have had. If you want a remote trip I would recommend this property, and it was also reasonably priced. Normally I would give this a 5 Star review except for the stringent policies. The owners require trash be taken to a dump site, AC not be run except when in the home, and minimal water usage. The ac usage is metered in real time and you will get a text from the owner if it’s running all day. We had someone in the house all day most days so we had to explain our usage. Also we were asked to checkout an hour earlier than the Vrbo reservations stated, so there was some confusion there. That said, it was a terrific place and I would recommend the location

Beautiful Property!!!
Loved the property!! Could not beat the views of St John, and other islands! We stayed ten nights and wished we could have stayed a month!!! The island lost electricity (no fault to the owner), and Ms Helene was very kind and immediate response as to how to deal with the issues. She had multiple people on sight within a few hours!! Could not have asked for a better owner to deal with our stay! Her house keeper, Ms Merlyn, was superb and very helpful not only with the property, but directions and suggestions for activities to include our entire family! Waking up in bed, looking out at the views from the master bedroom we’re breath taking! You will not go wrong with this property!

Ocean overlook on Tabor& Harmony
The location was very beautiful. Very remote and private. The house was decorated very nice as well. Helene was quick to respond to questions and has a book at the house with recommendations and directions to different places. The downstairs had a couple there for a few days but we didn't even hear them. The wrap around deck is really nice to hang out on. The beach was nice and private. The new walk way down to the beach was great. Looked like they just had stairs built and ropes put up on trees to help guide people down to the Beach. My husband snorkeled a little once the waves calmed down (very rough and rocky the week we were there). The house was fully stalked with pretty.much everything we needed to cook. There was even rum and vodka for drinks (I hope it's o.k. that we drank it). The one thing we had a hard time with and thought was inconvenient due to not knowing our way around was taking our own trash to dumpsters which were located randomly around the island. It was also difficult because we had 6 of us in a small Kia SUV and no room. Other than that we enjoyed our stay here. We decided that it was just a little too remote for us. The roads are very hilly and windy and we have never been here or driven on the other side of the street! I think we would take taxis to places next time we stay in St.Thomas. We did enjoy the many movies she had there and the WI-FI for most of the time there. The WI-FI stopped working the last two days for some reason. We couldn't figure out how to make it work again. All in all, beautiful place, nice decor, private, lots of games/movies for kids and there was boogie boards too. There was snorkel gear even though we brought our own. We would highly recommend this place to adventurous people who are looking for a very quiet, private vacation and don't mind driving a lot on vacation.

Honeymoon Dream Come True
It was a “dream come true” for our Honeymoon. We married Dec 31, 2015 and arrived Jan 1, 2016. The Owners are awesome! A personal card to "The Honeymooners" and a bottle of red wine were waiting for us upon arrival. The privacy and view from Ocean Overlook is amazing. Calm waves caressing a secluded beach, the soft splash of waves on the rocks, birds and butterflies weaving throughout the trees and brush as far as you can see, in our opinion, make this one of the most spectacular views and properties on the island. We saw the resident sea turtle from the balcony every morning to accompany an incredible sunrise over the water, as well as, a very large Iguana and babies in the front yard, and the fly-by of pelicans at breakfast, lunch and dinner across Tutu Bay. The interior design and decor is amazing as well. Tile, marble, art work, and an ocean view will be in your sights from any angle. The breeze comes in the 4 sets of French doors, and with ceiling fans, was soothing and very cool. The temperature outside varied from 74-84, but no A/C was needed. The dining table is a show piece, and an incredible work of art. Custom made from century old “spalted” wood, it is truly a special touch to this unique property. The property has all the basics on site. You will be surprised by the owner’s attention to details. A booklet of maps, shopping, directions, suggestions left by owner is invaluable. The people in St. Thomas are amazing. Everyone you meet is so friendly and will go out of their way to assist you with anything. We can personally recommend; Coral World for Snuba, King Fish steaks for the grill from Yellow Man (which he even seasoned for us), and a New Horizon's Dinner Cruise top off your stay. A week is definitely not a long enough visit and we wanted to stay forever. Now we just need to figure out how to move …

Beautiful property!
We had a wonderful week with our kids ages 11 and 14 at this house. The view is amazing and so peaceful. I often felt like I was on a cruise ship without the crowds, rigidness, or sea sickness. We left windows and doors opened and loved the coastal air and breezes. The wrap around deck is perfect, always sun or shade, breeze or none on one side or the other. The second bedroom worked well for us as it was very large so kids could each have bed (or sofa bed) and lots of space. Master has ocean view. Bathrooms are beautifully updated and kitchen basically equipped (my husband the cook wanted a few higher quality pans). We used the grill and enjoyed the best dinner views on the island right on deck. Helene was very helpful and patient with our many questions and replied promptly. She genuinely wants you to have a great week. She even had a bottle of wine waiting for us. We rented a Jeep but tenants of lower level had small car and were fine. We loved the trail to the semi private beach even though tides were high and rough and we were unable to get in the water or sunbathe. This is a relaxing vacation. We spent hours just reading on the deck. However, there are many restaurants within 10-15 minutes to choose from. House was clean and only concerns were the master bed is very hard and made it hard for me to sleep. Also, there is no dishwasher so that's an extra thing to do but other features make it worth it the little bit of extra work. We took ferry to St. John one day and visited many different beaches later in the day on the island. Recommend the Caribbean Show at Iggies Bar and Grill. Very fun! Also recommend Off the Grid and Tap and Still. Get the cruise ship schedule and avoid busy places on busy cruise days. Grocery is in Red Hook (Plaza Extra) and within easy reach. Helene has chairs, ice chest, towels, snorkeling gear (although we brought our own) so makes going to the beach easy when having to fly in. Kids loved collecting hermit crabs, cracking coconuts, weaving palm fronds, catching lizards, etc. We hope to leave the kids at home next time though and go as a couple and stay in the lower level of this house at half the price. This was an unforgettable experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. Peaceful, relaxing, oasis in a little slice of heaven. Hope to return!

Fabulous place to stay on St Thomas!
I would say that staying here was one of the best parts of going to St Thomas. The view from the deck is amazing! It takes a few minutes of back roads to get there and you should rent a 4x4, but this adds to the tranquility and security of the place. My family of five comfortable made it our home for a week. The kitchen is well stocked, the bathrooms are updated, and it is well located to goto Magen's Bay and Red Hook to catch the ferry to St John. The kids enjoyed eating at Melt in Red Hook, we loved breakfast at the Landing in St John, and we were surprised at how good the food was at Magen's Bay so that you can stay at the beach all day. Whatever you do, you should plan to spend at least a lot of time on the deck of this property -- you won't want to leave.

Fantastic Home
This house is fantastic! The veiw from the deck is amazing- watching the fish, birds, iguana's or just enjoying a cup of coffee or glass of wine, you can never tire of it! We enjoyed our time on the semi-private beach (ableit the large amount of sea grass during our stay)-path down is not bad at all. Kitchen is well appointed and provides everything you need to cook at home if you wish- grill is an added bonus and well used during our stay. Bedrooms are spacious and comfortable with awesome view from master. Mrs. Thaker provides plenty of helpful guidance and materials to assist you during your stay. Several have mentioned renting a Jeep or 4X4 vehicle- we had a small Mazda car and managed ok, but would agree that a 4x4 would be better! A big thank you to the Thaker's for allowing the use of this home- made our vacation a very memorable one!

I wanted to add to my former review.
I was remiss in not mentioning the private beach and the awesome deck. The master bedroom's bed was very comfortable to me. I slept great! Open all the french doors and you won't believe the cooling breeze that will come through the house. Someone mentioned about no bolt lock. I promise that with this property's location you are very safe and I traveled alone. When you come you'll feel the same way. You will absolutely need to rent a jeep. Have Fun!

Best view on entire island !!
I want to thank Helene for being such a great host. Everything I needed for my vacation was provided at the house. To start, make sure you rent a jeep, It made getting around the island much more manageable. Now, the photos don't do the view from the deck any justice. It's absolutely amazing! Waking up every morning to that was all I needed. It was so peaceful to hang around the house. There were no distractions from people or cars. Megan's bay is a five minute drive and the only beach id recommend going to. It's stunning and has everything you need. Plus there aren't any cruise people invading the space, atleast when I was visiting. We cooked mostly at the house and went out to dinner only twice. Why leave when its so easy to grab groceries and cook at home. The golf course Mahogany run is also right down the road. They have a great restaurant called the grill I'd recommend it. The next restaurant which was up Island is called thirteen. Best restaurant I've eaten at in a long time. All in all I can't wait to go back. Hopefully it will be available when I have some time off. Thanks so much for this much needed trip!!

Fantastic getaway
My husband and I enjoyed a week in heaven, here in Overlook Villa. The view is breathtaking and almost impossible to capture in a photo - though we tried, diligently! Comfortable sleeping, multiple choices for indoor/outdoor lounging, well equiped kitchen ( and Helene generously stocked the fridge prior to our arrival!), plus a grill right outside the kitchen.... Walking to our private beach we saw the local island iguanas but also had a rare sighting of a red footed tortoise, munching on some plants. We took advantage of the snorkel gear provided by Helene and enjoyed snorkeling around our cove. Breezes blowing, stars overhead, relaxing sounds of the sea... we really can't speak highly enough of our stay here. One of the more unexpected blessings of this house was actually the FLAT spacious driveway!! After seeing the various (terrifying?) inclines that people have to park on here on the island, I was thrilled to arrive with ease :))) The main challenge we had was dragging ourselves away from paradise to enjoy some of the other treats on the island - what a treat to be able to rest and recover in such a relaxing place. We will return!

Thing you need to know!
The house was good, one door didn't lock, didn't like that. Not enough hot water for four adults, and the water could run out if you use too much. You need to take care of your own trash removal, that was a big hassle. The kitchen was well equipped for what we needed, we did cook. We had a few surprises, man came to fix the faucet and had to turn off the water, not cool. The house has a downstairs apartment that is rented, didn't like to know that after the fact. About the path to the beach, it's really just a run off for water and very hard to get down, really more of a gully. The beach is OK, but we couldn't really get into the water because of the rocks and strong current, I don't think this is anyplace for young kids. I recommend you rent an SUV to get there, because the drive in is an off road experience.

Paradise by the sea
Photos do not capture the beauty of this paradise. Very private space, amazing vista, quiet except for the sound of waves hitting the shore, night sky full of stars, beautiful garden. We spent most of our time out on the spacious balcony but the interior is just as inviting. Large open space and a wall of french doors brings the outside in. Beautifully and comfortably decorated with attention to detail. Easy to keep clean, relax and enjoy. It just doesn't get any better!! Thank you!

Stunning Cliffside Villa
My Wife and I took our honeymoon here at Ocean Overlook. As you drive down the dirt road you come across a beautiful stone and wrought iron gate that begins the majesty of this place. The view of the Sea is abundant as you pull up the driveway. Everything is blue as far as the eye can see. Being 100+ feet up on a cliff makes you feel like a king looking down on his fishly subjects. So many sea creatures dot the white sand under the water and I wouldn't have been surprised if a mermaid happened along. The house itself is spacious and the trade winds keep it cool, air conditioning is not required but it does help if you happen to sweat a bit in the tropical air. The owners left a few necessities but the store is not too far away if you need anything else. Cooking and eating in is recommended if you are not up for driving the winding hills just to get a bite to eat. A few things to note though is that there are no deliveries to this place, and a 4-wheel drive car is almost required anywhere in St. Thomas. Don't get stuck on a hill like we did. All in All this was a magical get away that we will never forget. We will definitely be spending an anniversary here one day if we can come up with the money to go back.

Beauty Away from the Hustle and Bustle
It is a rugged drive from the main road down through the neighborhood to the house. It’s the last on the private drive which makes it very private and secluded. As you arrive you will see a tropical garden ready for exploration. The floors are all tiled and this extends outside to the balcony. This is where you can see an incredible view of the bay. I spent many hours enjoying the turquoise ocean, its foam-capped waves, and the wildlife. You are going to see pelicans, iguanas, and even hummingbirds which really like the flowers in the garden. Bring binoculars so you can see fish jumping in the distance. The living/dining room has large French doors which would allow you to see the view rain or shine (although it did not rain while I was there.) The furniture is nice, and I spent some great time napping on the sofa in the living room. To reach the water, you will have to hike down a hill. The bay is larger than you expect from the view, and there’s quite a bit to explore in the water. I became acquainted with many fish and brain coral. Use caution if the swells are big. The kitchen is cozy, and we were able to cook some great meals in the furnished kitchen. I cooked a particularly delicious steak on the gas barbecue grill. If you are looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle of the island, I highly recommend this house.

A paradise that's hard to leave!
An absolutely stunning view from a wrap-around deck, you can spend all day just on the property, enjoying the views (of wildlife) and ocean breezes. Easy walk down to the beach, which is your own little slice of paradise! Great for snorkeling, the cove the house sits on is raw, pristine nature. Easy drive to Red Hook for dining and bar scene, and to catch the Ferry to St John's. Can't beat the secluded privacy surrounded by raw, island nature and access to all that the island has to offer! It really is hard to leave! :-)

About the host

Hosted by Helene and Gunvant Thaker

Host profile image
We are from Maryland and love traveling. We have visited several of the Caribbean islands as well Central American coastal areas but love St. Thomas the most.

Why they chose this property

We had a picture in our minds of our island home; secluded, oceanfront and close enough to hear the waves, tropical foliage. When we found this home, it had been listed for one week and we bought it! Having a beach that we could walk to put it over the top. Islanders tell us we have the best view on St. Thomas.

What makes this property unique

Completely private at the end of the road surrounded by ocean and jungle. Watch sea turtles, sting and eagle rays, giant barracudas and other fish from the deck. Sit on the deck and listen to waves. Feel the breeze the whole day. Walk down to the beach.
