About this property

Opulent Waterfall House - large private house overlooking the ocean - stunning!

Located in Haiku, this private luxury vacation residence is perched on the edge of a three-hundred-foot cliff with a breathtaking views of the Maui north shore coast. A welcomed refuge for couples on vacation or newlyweds on honeymoon, guests have access to a private hot tub, pool, and oceanview lanai. Below, Hanehoi Falls thunders one hundred fifty feet into an oceanfront gorge directly below, while the summit peaks of Haleakala volcano glisten above the rainforest in the distance.

The Waterfall House is the ideal location for couples looking to get away! Whether it's your honeymoon, special anniversary or romantic tryst in the tropics of Hawaii, the exotic and peaceful ambiance immediately transports you to a state of rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation.

This elegant home features an open concept with teak wood accents. The unique floors are Javanese marble brought in from Bali. The round King size bed is set beneath a vaulted ceiling with a skylight, perfect for stargazing! The ocean-facing lanai, with a private hot tub, overlooks the unforgettable beauty of Maui's ocean and valley. A tropical paradise with a pool, outdoor shower, and poolside dining with a gas barbecue.

The house also has a dining area that is right off the open kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with the necessary cooking utensils.

An outdoor shower provides a welcomed hideaway in the warmth of the sun or under the star-lit skies. The large marble and tile shower, landscaped for privacy with tall gingers, bromeliads, Japanese irises, and giant jungle philodendrons will entice you! Please note: all showers in this house are outdoors.

Note: Please keep in mind, our center is a rustic compound in the middle of the jungle. We do have de-humidifiers and air purifiers in every room as well as air conditioning units for when it is hot. We are centered in a tropical rainforest with many weird and wonderful insect species. We only use natural pesticides and cleaning chemicals on the property. As a result, we occasionally have more animal visitors. These may include geckos, ants, flying cockroaches, centipedes, cane spiders, and mice. We are in their natural habitat, so we will not be able to refund any portion of your stay for these house guests.

Incredible place
This house is nestled inside the beginnings of the road to Hana. One of the most breathtaking places I’ve stayed in my life. Just beware, it is really hard to leave because it’s so beautiful!! The house itself is incredibly unique, there are little treasures everywhere that aren’t even pictured.

Gorgeous and peaceful
We had a fabulous 3 night stay at the Waterfall House. The home is more beautiful than pictures could show and the views are absolutely amazing, you could hear the waterfall and even the waves in the distance, right from the deck. At night we'd turn off all the lights in the house, step onto the deck, and just stand in awe of all the stars you can see. Having our own private pool and Jacuzzi was awesome, the kitchen was very well equipped with all updated appliances, and the details in the decor were just stunning. We got fresh fruits from vendors down the road for breakfast each morning, and kept the calming Hawaiian music on the surround sound all day long. The little geckos were adorable entertainment on our lazy days lounging around the house. We are the kind of people who usually only see the sunrise if we're still up from the night before, but we left the curtains open and woke up to magical sunrises every morning (then we closed the curtains and went back to sleep like normal people, haha). We did have issues the first few mornings with ants attracted to the vines around the bed, but the staff was quick to respond. Zara, Leahi, and Tanner were all so friendly and helpful, they gave wonderful suggestions for the area and pleasant conversations, while swiftly handling the issues. Once we got the right spray and traps set out, we didn't have any more troubles with ants the rest of our stay. One thing to be aware of is that there's only a small AC unit in front of the main bed, and the house can get quite hot and humid at times. The cross breeze through the sliding doors was very nice, but luckily we found some powerful little fans in the closet that really helped make the rest of the home more comfortable. A quick jump in the pool or rinse in the outdoor shower never hurt either. The upstairs bedroom and loft were surprisingly cool and made for a nice afternoon nap, but the marble staircase is extremely steep and slick, so I wouldn't recommend sleeping up there at night if you get up to pee a lot, lol. Being our first time to Maui, we were trying to see and do a lot. We enjoyed Cafe Mambo in Paia, swimming at Twin Falls, and had one of the best experiences ever at Mama's Fish House. In the future when we book here (and we will), we'll stay at least 4 nights and plan to not do anything else, take the time to truly enjoy the private, relaxing, romantic retreat this house is. It's really a vacation in itself.

Amazing!!
Amazing, private and unique property. It was 2nd island stay for our honeymoon adventure thru Hawaii islands and I don't think it could be any better. Felt very welcomed when we first arrived and was pleasantly surprised that property looked and felt even better than pictured. The waterfalls can be seen from back patio. Pool is fantastic, hot tub was mind blowing good and we spend every night in it enjoying champagne. Sunrise can be seen from main bed and is very romantic. Overall structure of the building and rooms is super unique and inviting. It's safe to say we loved it. I Only downside for some it maybe it's remoteness. It's pretty far from everything.. But if you are looking for romantic, remote, secluded, quite, beautiful place that has everything. This is it. Perfect honeymoon spot

Only regret is we didn't stay longer but are already thinking of future visits. It rained heavily a couple of nights we were there, but its didn't even matter. The space feels magical and pictures do not do the place justice, truly is like being in paradise with unbelievable views.

Heaven on Earth!
It is hard to put into words how magical the Waterfall house is! Pictures cannot do justice to the home and the scenery. Extremely private, your own gorgeous house and private pool, multiple decks, all set in a lush jungle in the mountains with a waterfall right out your back door!! The farm itself is beautiful, the check in process was easy and quick, and everyone we met was lovely. My husband and I stayed for 3 days and we only left to get food at the nearest town haha! Will be back as soon as we can! Mahalo!

Hugely disappointing!!
First of all, the location of this property is outstanding. It feels like paradise...gorgeous views, gentle breezes, beautiful sunrises. The outdoor spaces are wonderful, with some exceptions that I will mention later. HOWEVER, the lack of attention to detail in this property is visible at every turn. The home feels very tired, not to mention a lack of cleanliness. Roaches, lizards, ants and other creatures were resident in the house throughout our stay. The refrigerator (circa 1995) was filthy on the outside. A baking sheet was filthy and unusable. When we got out the aluminum foil to put on the baking sheet, it was multi-colored, as if it had been in there for years, oxidizing. During heavy rains, water was dripping on the master bed. Yes....you read this correctly. Water dripping on the master bed! The screens on the doors were torn, and the doors were continually falling off the track. I fell thru a rotten canvas-back chair located on the pool deck. They said they would bring two more chairs (they did) but the matching chair of the one that I fell through was left there (as if I was going to risk falling through that one!). When I went to the office to complain about these problems, I was told "wow...no one has ever complained about any of these things". The nice lady appeared shocked, but told me they would make sure that all of the items would be taken care of before the next guest arrived, including a new roof. Wow...suddenly everything was OK! It would be perfect for the next guest. I felt so much better!! We also were told that they were struggling because their cleaning person of 10 years recently retired. Guess what? Not my problem. I also was told that "the Maui weather wrecks havoc on everything, thus many of the problems we were experiencing. Also, not my problem. In my opinion, it is the property manager's job to do whatever it takes to keep a luxury property in great shape, regardless of the challenges they face...or don't rent it!! I went on another social media travel site after our trip and read a review from 15 years ago and guess what? A strangely similar response was provided to that vacationer...."never heard that before". Bottom line? The setting is wonderful, and the house could also be wonderful, if only it was taken care of in a proactive manner, with attention to detail!! We will NEVER return to this house. The entire experience (except for our time on the outdoor decks/patios) was a huge disappointment.

paradise - glorious location, kind and attentive staff - perfect!
My daughter and I absolutely loved our stay - if only it were longer. The property is magical - peaceful, quiet, and immersed in nature - but with top amenities like the pool and soaking tub. Thank you for making our trip memorable. Staff - Naia, Leah, Justin were helpful, kind, and took the time to talk about the site - loved talking bromeliads with Justin. We'll be back!

Peaceful and gorgeous
From the moment we entered, it was clear that this property was a labor of love. The artwork, the grounds, the attention to detail: all were spectacular. We loved that it was remote enough to feel like we were in our own bubble, but still relatively easy to get to other parts of the island, when we needed. We'd love to stay here again, on our next visit to the island. Mahalo!

We felt lucky to be staying here
What a unique property! Time spent at the house was alternating between different decks and pools, always marveling at the views and surroundings which were stunning whatever the time of day or whatever the weather. For days out of the house, we got a headstart on the road to Hana and had an easy drive to restaurants and beaches in Paia and Haiku. We can't wait to go back.

Dream house.
My wife and I loved our stay. They thought of everything. The shape of the house is really unique. I actually spent a good bit of time just wondering about how difficult it must have been to design and build it. Our favorite thing was the outside shower and the lush surroundings. Several nights we watched the moon come up over the ocean from the hot tub. It was hard to go back to freezing temperatures back home.

Relaxing, relaxing, relaxing! Perfect for a getaway!
My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon trip to Maui and absolutely loved it! They have everything you could need for a relaxing getaway; pool, hot tub, views of a waterfall and perfect for watching sunrises from your bed, and beautiful grounds for walking with incredible plants and flowers. The Waterfall House was truly paradise for us. The only downside is that you have to drive to get to any restaurants or markets but it’s only a short drive into Haiku for those. Stock up on groceries before you come and you wouldn’t have to leave for your whole stay!

When Can I Go Back?
Wow! I am sooo glad that I found this place! On our last trip to Hawaii, we went to Oahu and stayed at the Turtle Bay Resort on the north shore. We loved staying there. It's a beautiful property. When we left, my wife said "let's come back to Turtle Bay for all of our vacations." We really loved staying there. After staying at the Waterfall House, I doubt we will ever go back to Turtle Bay. When we walked on the back decks for the first time, we were simply in awe of the stunning view of the ocean and of Hanehoi Falls. Pictures cannot come close to doing justice to this setting. We settled in and had a relaxing evening. In the morning, we watched the sunrise from the master bedroom. We then decided to continue watching the sunrise from our private hot tub on one of the decks. While we did the Maui things (Road to Hana, Lahaina, snorkeling, relaxing on the beach, etc), we ended up spending 2 full days in the house, on the decks, and in/around the pool. Having a very private pool completely to ourselves is so different than sharing a resort pool and hot tub with hundreds of other people. To be clear, staying here is very different than staying at an upscale hotel. We have stayed at a number of 4 and 5 star properties over the years. For example, the Montage Deer Valley is an incredible hotel. We have loved our multiple stays there. Again, this is very different than that. If you demand world-class service and high-end furnishings, this might not be for you. The kitchen doesn't come with a Viking or Wolf stove, a big stainless refrigerator, etc. But the kitchen had more amenities than we expected. It had everything we needed. Pots, pans, plates, glasses, utensils, spices, etc. We bought some nice food when we arrived, and enjoyed some nice dinners at home. If you want to exit your hotel and immediately have lots of restaurants within walking distance, don't come here. Go to Lahaina or Wailea instead. Regarding the privacy, you can't see or hear anyone from any of the decks or from the pool area. It would be easy to spend several days without seeing anyone. My wife keeps the windows & blinds at our home closed as much as possible. She was completely comfortable with the amazing views in all directions. You will need to rent a car. Once you turn off the Road to Hana, you will end up on a bumpy dirt road, but any rental car will be fine getting to the Waterfall House. For a romantic getaway, I can't imagine a better place than this.

Serenity Defined
For the first half of our vacation we experienced the extravagance of the Wailea resort area, but for contrast, we moved to the Waterfall House for the remainder of our stay. Located in a true tropical setting on Maui's north shore about a few miles east of Haiku, the Waterfall House offered us the maximum in privacy and serenity in a unique setting perfect for two. As we tend to enjoy peaceful surroundings, this gave us a refreshing respite from the crowds and sometime frenetic environment often found in the resort areas. The house's layout is different than a typical home as it is completely open with no interior doors where each room is delineated by the structural design of the floor plan. We acclimated quickly to the layout and felt very comfortable in the cozy surroundings. The lush gardens, ocean view and an active waterfall positioned in the cliff behind the house all contributed to this being a special place. While there is a small sleeping loft accessed by a spiral staircase for additional occupants, it does not exhibit the same level of comfort and atmosphere as the main floor. Hence, larger families would not find the Waterfall House practical, but for a romantic getaway for two, this is the perfect place.

We Never Want To Leave
We “discovered” Pali Uli 10 years ago and have visited 4 times since then, staying twice in the Cliff House and twice in the Waterfall House. For us, it is absolute paradise! We love to stay at unusual accommodations in beautiful locations. We got hooked on small inns and B&B’s when traveling in the UK almost 20 years ago and we’ve spent a lot of time searching the internet for special places when we plan vacations. We’ve stayed at some very lovely and memorable spots in Ireland, Australia, Canada, and all over the US, but Pali Uli is the best we’ve ever found. As you turn off the road to Hana onto Door of Faith Rd heading down toward the coast and Pali Uli, you’ll wonder if you made the right turn and the further you go the more you question your directions. It’s a rural single lane road that is paved for the first quarter mile or so, but then becomes a rutted, bumpy gravel road. However, you soon come to the Pali Uli Estate and when those gates swing open, it’s like St. Peter just opened the gates of heaven to you. There’s a great description of the Waterfall House and it’s amenities above, but that and the photographs aren’t really able to convey the feeling of the place. As you walk around out by the pool or on any to the three lanais on the ocean side, you can’t see any neighbors, not even the Cliff House right next door. It is unbelievably private and so beautiful! It’s your personal piece of paradise. You will find that even though you’re in Hawaii, on Maui, with so many great things to see and do, you will not want to leave this place, even for a few hours. A word of warning…Pali Uli is on the north shore of Maui in an undeveloped area. If you’re the type of person that enjoys staying at mega-resorts, sitting on the beach, and being served drinks by cabana boys, Pali Uli is probably not for you. However, if you enjoy privacy and natural beauty in upscale accommodations, and don’t mind mixing your own drinks, you may just fall in love with it like we did.

Pali Uli Gardens staff has been here for many years and is full of Aloha and happy to be of service.

Why they chose this property

This area of Haiku, called Huelo, is a rural area with the up country Maui jungle feel. We are about half way to Hana but not all the way into the rainy part. We are right at the part of the Hana Hwy that starts to get windy and narrow, and where we get just enough rain to keep things green all year round.

What makes this property unique

Pali Uli Gardens is built right in the center of the Hanehoi gorge and is perched on the cliffs over looking the pristine Nature reserve and the wide Pacific Ocean, all the way to Hana. It's an extraordinary location that everyone loves and wants to returns to.
