Amazing Summer Weekend

My friends and I had a very comfortable and relaxing weekend away at this well appointed Chalet. It was secluded and quite, just what we wanted coming from New York City and Boston. The Chalet was very well appointed and with the most amazing swimming pool. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend away and hope to return again some day for more rest and relaxation.

Large Family Ski Trip!

We stayed here for a full week with our extended family including a number of children. It was a great place and we would highly recommend this to anyone with a large group. The facilities were clean and comfortable with easy access to the mountain. The mountain was barely a three minute drive. We definitely plan on coming back! Also, the caretaker was great. He handled any issue that came up!

Excellent family ski compound

We had the pleasure of staying here with two other families (6 adults/8 children). There was plenty of room for all, including our ski gear. The unit was exceptionally clean and well maintained. Highlights: proximity to Smugglers Notch, mountain views, hot tub, on-site laundry, plenty of hot water, sauna, second play/living area for the kids, fireplace with plenty of wood, quiet location. No negatives. We would love to come back in the summer to enjoy the pool.

Great for a group ski trip!

We went with a group of 11 couples for a ski weekend and had a wonderful time! The house is in a beautiful setting, spacious, and clean. It is a very easy walk (under 10 minutes) to the Smuggler's Notch ski area. I agree with a previous reviewer -- highlights included the location, view, hot tub, laundry rooms, saunas, space, fireplace, privacy. I'd also add well-equipped kitchens. The wifi was not working while we were there, but the owner was very responsive and helpful.

We can't wait to come back in winter!

Our large family with kids of various ages stayed at Sterling House last week-from August 10 to August 15. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed with this place and what it had to offer! The space around the house looked clean and the grass was neatly trimmed. As we took a walk around, we discovered that the swimming pool was safely fenced and its water was clear and warm. Playing at the tennis court was another opportunity for the kids to be safe and have fun. The interior of the house was also well designed and super clean. The kitchen was spotless and fully stocked, with the brand new refrigerator and dishwasher. We cooked dinner and had barbecue, since the grill was provided at the porch. In the evening we made s'mores and gathered together in this cozy living room. The large dinning room table had plenty of space for us to eat inside and simultaneously enjoy the spectacular views this place has to offer. The large patio was also an opportunity for us to enjoy our morning coffee while looking at the beautiful scenery. All the rooms were spacious, clean and stocked with clean linens and towels. The places around have to offer a variety of activities for grown ups and kids. The famous Smuggler's Notch Resort is located right across the street. We also visited 158 Main Restaurant & Bakery, located 5 minutes away---we highly recommend its Blueberry Pancakes and exceptional Eggs Benedict. As a mother of 6 year old, 4 year old and a 3 month old baby, I was primarily concerned with safety of my kids and cleanliness I was going to find here. I might say that my expectations were exceeded and we enjoyed our stay. My older nieces and nephews had fun and were impressed with this place as much as their parents were. I highly recommended this place to my friends and more family. We can't wait to come back here during the winter time and enjoy the fire place and the sauna.

Great Stay Close To Slopes

Overall the stay was great! 8 of us ended up staying the weekend and there was more than enough room for all of us to sleep and spread out in living room/dining room/kitchen. The house is super close to the mountain which is a huge plus. The driveway was a little icy so might want to consider brining a 4 wheel drive car in the winter. Nick was super responsive to any questions we had and was a great host. Thanks for the great ski weekend!

Great place and great location

The property was really rustic and nice. We loved the fireplace and rooms were all roomy. Nick was a great property manager and got back to us immediately if we have questions. I would certainly recommend it for families. We had 11 adults and there was plenty of room

Labor Day Weekend

Overall our stay was excellent, and the property was very close to the popular hikes in the area. The drive up is absolutely gorgeous, and the seclusion makes for a great getaway. The rooms are comfortable and clean. An adequate amount of bathrooms for a large group. Our only difficulty was a lack of variety of pots and pans in the kitchen, and no amenities provided in the bathroom (ex: bath soap, shampoo). Overall would recommend for a large group, kid friendly! Nick was also excellent with his communication and repsonses to my questions prior to the stay.

The house has potential but needs work

Overall the group had an awesome time. The house could of been a bit more clean. The heater pool did not work. So the pool was very cold the whole time. The hot pub was okay. The house needs some repairing in the kitchen and bathrooms most of all.

Size we needed and good location

We needed space for 12 - 6 adults and 6 kids ages 7-9, and wanted to be as close to the mountain as possible. In that sense, this space was perfect. Nick was a good host and answered all questions in advance, including dealing with the errors in the listing he acknowledged were caused by Vrbo, not him. He was responsive to the issues we experienced while there.

great wedding/family reunion

Great place for an extended family reunion. we had 15 of us on the 3 levels comfortably all ages from 1 year old to 82!... The hot tub was perfect for grammy and the kids. The older kids loved the heated pool and the adults liked playing tennis.. it was a central location.. some hiked Sterling trail, others biked the Smugglers notch, others went to Burlington and also boating on lake Champlain. Nice back deck for BBQ and saw Smugglers fireworks from the front deck. Nice fire pit for the teens.lot of grassy area . all in all a perfect spot to have your family here in one place. Our family and extended family stayed here as my daughter was married at Boyden Farm and Winery... this was a perfect spot to stay and go back and forth. Scott the property manager was always prompt with any issues. I only wish we could have brought our dog...he would have loved your place. When I first inquired, one of the 3 owners said yes, then said no after checking with his partner. The 3 owners need to be more in unison with each other and use Scott more as a liaison to the renters. Scott was very helpful to us and checked on us the following day after we checked in. All in all this is a great place to have extended family for a wedding at the Boyden barn!! Even guests from out of state were amazed at this beautiful; setting... You really have a beautiful chalet ..thank you for letting us enjoy ourselves for the week.

perfect spot in Vermont

This property is just a great all around set up for a large group as we had (24 of us fit very comfortably). the main house clean and cozy, but the deck/hot tub/pool and overall ground were the best part since the weather was spectacular. the firepit a wonderful touch. didn't make it to tennis courts but only because we had a ton of other activities. the manager was kind enough to mail some personal items back to us free of charge, so all-in-all this was a first class experience. highly recommend!

Great Summer Getaway

Thanks for sharing this beautiful property with us. Our group of 24 traveled from multiple spots in the US to enjoy the estate. In addition to the endless lawn space, pool, hot tub, saunas, fire pit, mountain views and tennis courts, this property had all of the amenities needed for a enjoyable long weekend. Between the three houses, there was more than enough room to comfortably host a large group whether it is family or friends. Close to Smugglers Notch, Stowe and Burlington. The owners and property manager were a pleasure to work with and they went out of their way to make sure our group had everything needed. If you are looking for a great northeast getaway, I highly recommend this property for any time of year. Can't wait to go back!

Great setting for Vermont group getaway

Our large group of family friends including a dozen teens, spent July 4 weekend at this rental. We have traveled together to various locations in the NE for hiking, photo gathering, sightseeing and tennis. We enjoyed our entire weekend in the Stowe/Smugglers area and this rental was a great centerpiece for our time together. Our high points were the privacy of the property (we rented all 3 units), cleanliness, hot tub, fully stocked kitchens, tennis court and fire pit. The house provided plenty of firestarter and firewood. The swimming pool is really great as well, but we chose not to heat it and that was our own mistake (advice for prospective renters: if you expect to use the pool, consider heating it to make it more comfortable). We had some issues with the wifi, but I think those should be fixed by now. Beautiful views and easy access to hiking. Stowe just a short drive away. Thanks to Nick and Christina!

Amazing weekend with the extended family

Thank you so much for this amazing rental. We rented both sides and had family members from 7 months to 73. All had a great time! We hardly left the property.. there was so much to do. The days we did leave we did the toll road to the top of Mansfield (10 minutes away) and the adults did the canoe trip to the winery. The pool is perfect and the hot tub was great for the older set. The deck was a great spot for full family dinners. The kitchens had everything we needed and the houses were big enough that everyone had plenty of fun together, but also time for themselves. We are already planning our trip back next year.

Couldn't have picked a better place for our group.

Our group of 8 adults and 7 children had a fantastic stay at this chalet. It isn't overly fancy, but is very clean and super cosy. The stone fireplace was a big hit; who doesn't love coming home after a full day on the slopes to a roaring fire? It is also the best stocked chalet/condo we have ever stayed in; there was plenty of cleaning products, dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. A great place to stay.

Great family getaway

My extended family rented out the 5BR side for a 5 day vacation to get together and enjoy the great outdoors in the green mountains. We had a great time and the estate was everything we could have asked for. We had a great time at the pool and surrounding areas. The Stowe bike path was great, as well as the Ben & Jerry's factory and the Jeffersonville farmers market had tons of local food, arts and crafts to choose from. Being so close to Smuggs we also got to check out their comedy show and hypnotist at night while the in-laws watched the kids! We had a great time and will definitely look to rent again next summer! Checking out the other reviews I just wanted to state we saw no mice droppings, and had no issues with the property. It may have some "dated" wallpaper but everything was in good working order, and I was not concerned for the safety of my 3 small children (4,3 and 1yo). We brought our own pool toys and bikes and would not expect a rental to provide this as it can be an issue with insurance these days. (I have owned vacation rentals myself so know first hand.) Thanks Nick and Christina!

Family Reunion

14 people for a family reunion rented both sides of the big house. Beautiful private grounds with exceptionally clean pool (someone came every third day to clean) and we'll maintained tennis courts. BBQ and charcoal grill worked perfectly. It was nice to have both to cook for 14 people. Madonna (larger house with bigger master) is very dated but comfortable. Sterling side is beautifully decorated making it quaint and comfortable. Fully stocked kitchen (cups/playes/mugs/utensils). Fireplaces inside made for cozy fires and outside pit is a plus for Smores. (Although tree branches are very close to the fire pit so beware of stray flames) Incredibly private setting at a great rental price for Smuggler's Notch. We are planning on extending our family reunion from a long weekend to an entire week next summer. We loved the zip lining, hikes, Gondola up Stowe and the restaurant The Family Table. ( all within 5 miles of the house).

Nice place, poorly managed

Upon arrival, the place looked very promising, as shown in the pictures. It offered us lots of privacy and space. However, there were some issues we faced during the stay that ranged from inconveniences to serious health & safety risks: 1) Minor Issues: Leaky kitchen faucet (they'd placed a container to catch the dripping water, which overflowed and got the floor wet). The basements were damp and smelly. There were no pool toys for the kids, while their house description says "children welcome". 2) Serious Issues: -The smoke detector kept going off even if we boiled water. Nick, the owner, admitted he was aware of this and said he had them fixed, but hadn't checked. He just told us to disconnect it. 3) VERY serious Issues: -The garbage dumpsters close to the chalets were not emptied and bears raided them every night. Nick hadn't checked this out so we weren't aware until we saw the mess created by the bears. Luckily, none of us blundered into a bear. -There were mouse droppings in the utensils drawer, which we discovered the night before we left. Disgusting! Mouse droppings can contaminate the air and can cause severe and sometimes fatal respiratory issues. WE WERE IN THIS ENVIRONMENT FOR ALMOST 3 DAYS. I am asthmatic and at higher risk for pulmonary issues. One of the main illnesses caused by rodent feces: hantavirus. Please research this illness, since I am not allowed to post links in my review. After the trip, I spoke with Nick about our issues. He was only willing to refund the small cleaning fee. This, to me, was just not enough. No garbage cleanup, bears coming to the house because of it, and mouse droppings in the drawers! I tried to amicably resolve our displeasure with him by asking for a refund of 20% of our rental, which I thought was fair compensation for the mess we endured and the unnecessary risks he put us in. He chose to not compensate us any further. It's a nice property, no doubt. But it's unhealthy to stay in and not managed well. My review is meant to help you make a better decision on where to stay. Given that these owners don't seem to care about the health or satisfaction of their guests, I suggest checking out the tons of beautiful resorts in the area (everything is close by) that seem much cleaner and organized.

Fabulous family vacation spot!!

My family and I stayed here for a week in July 2014. We rented both sides, there were about 25 of us. It was so much fun. The scenery was fantastic and the road getting there from Stowe is one I will never forget. So scenic. Having my whole family together in one place was worth every penny and then some. I just couldn’t imagine having to stay in a hotel and having separate rooms. There were plenty of dishes and cooking utensils, bath towels, and bedding. We did have a slight problem, but I called Nick and he resolved it almost immediately. If we’re ever heading up to Vermont again, this is the only place I want to stay. Thank you Nick and Christina!!

Perfect Spot for our Large Group!

Our large group (9 adults, 12 kids) had been looking for an alternative to a hotel for the Bitters Lacrosse tournament in Stowe and took a chance booking this property, which was newly listed on VRBO at the time. Boy, did we hit the jackpot! Right from the start, the owner was extremely pleasant, responsive, and helpful in helping us through booking our large group. The property and house is just as it appears in the photos - absolutely beautiful, with breathtaking views. The property is obviously very well taken care of. Beautiful perennials are planted all along the walkways, porch, and driveway. The access staircases to the pool and down to the tennis courts appear to be also newly installed and really add to the charm of the property. The kids absolutely LOVED the tennis court and the pool. The pool was immaculately clean and the pool deck had plenty of chairs and loungers to just relax and take in the gorgeous July weather. The hot tub on the deck was not working during our trip but all the other great things about this place easily compensated for that. We did not use the saunas, but peeked in and can see how amazing those would be in the winter after a day of skiing. Having the Brewster River Grill right across the end of the driveway was convenient on the nights we didn't want to cook. The food was great, and the owners were extremely hospitable. The house itself had everything we needed - clean towels, household items, grills, kitchen appliances, and more. There was PLENTY of space for all of us and it was just perfect for our large group. More than enough bedrooms to accommodate everyone, and the older kids and teenagers loved having the bunk beds and additional sleeping options on the bottom floor. PLENTY of bathrooms and showers as well. We also had a chance to meet extended family of the owners, who came to check and clean the pool, and do some minor yard work. We loved hearing a bit of history about the property and how Nick and Christina came to own this beautiful place. Our deposit was returned very promptly upon our return. I truly can't say enough wonderful things about this house and our overall experience renting. We definitely hope to return many times.

Our family acquired this unique 12-acre estate in 2013, we have been running it as a family business ever since. In the recent years, some of us have moved to Vermont to enjoy the Life-style and nature of this beautiful state and to get more involved with the business. Each family member collaborates in their area to assure a fantastic experience and constantly try to improve our guests' experience.

We all love the great outdoors, hence we jumped at the opportunity when this property came on the market. We have made immediate improvements and plan to make many more as time and finances allow. We are humbled to have you as our guests. Your suggestions are welcomed and appreciated as we embark on this new adventure. We look forward to communicating with you.

Why they chose this property

The main attribute is the prime location of the property. You will not find another estate privately owned and close enough to Smugglers' Notch in which you can put on your ski boots and walk to the resort.

Secondly but equally important, the beautiful views and scenery in this 12-acre estate. You’ll be amazed at the breathtaking grounds and views. My cousin, Kiri, says there is a sort of 'firewall for the mind that keeps you in the moment'.

Lastly, the welcoming ambient of the property. The wood finishing and classic decorative style gives and eminent cozy feeling that will mark your stay.

What makes this property unique

A multi ambient property that can host groups of all ages and keep everyone entertained with the exclusive amenities. Smuggler’s Notch Chalet Property is the place where affordable luxury meets comfort.

Thanks to the easy access to the Smugglers Sky Resort, many other activities are accessible at our guests' expense. Some activities: snowmobiling, snow tubing, dog sledding, massage & Yoga, children's & adult ski & snowboard lessons, ice skating and evening entertainment.
