Great place to stay for getaway or area events
We went to celebrate a birthday and visit wineries. Found some cool shops in the area and beautiful countryside. The cabins are well kept and have lovely owners that live on-property. It is so nice to be by the river and have an on-property restaurant as well. Tons of great wineries in the area. This stay exceeded our expectations.

Tranquility and serenity are just two qualities found here.
Incredible....front yard is a beautiful river and the backyard is a vineyard. If you fo not feel "you are away from it all" there must be something wrong with you.

Mildew smell
Property was great but there is a very strong mildew smell. Once the AC unit ran for 24 hours it got much better but very strong when you first get to the cabin. directions to get back to the cabin are very confusing! We ended up at the private residence on the property based off the directions. Maybe revisit the explanation of those. Otherwise it was great!

Adventures on a mountain side winery.
Our cabin, Serendipity, was a cozy abode. It had everything needed especially a very comfortable bed. It was steps to the Roaring River, where we were en tuned to nature while sharing a delicious bottle of Rose from the winery. The hosts were friendly and helpful. They shared the history of their property. They encouraged us to walk the trails around the vineyard. There were interesting secrets along the trails. We especially enjoyed the vineyard dogs, who greeted us each time they passed by.

Great little get away!! We enjoyed the restaurant, wine, walking the property and a delightful conversation with the owner. He showed us the amazing view from their home with some history of the property. We stayed in the cabin and definitely recommend visiting this creek side gem!

What a tranquil setting. The stream running by our place was perfect. Especially at night with the fire going. The restaurant has a limited menu, but everything that we ordered was very good. Tom, the owner, is a great host too. We will be back!

Quaint quarters
This was a surprise birthday trip for my husband. The cabin was nice. No more than 2 people could stay here. Was not expecting it to be so cold when we got there. A space heater is how the cabin is heated and a wall heater in the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and the cabin had everything you needed. There is not a view of the stream. There is a picnic shelter right in front of the cabin blocking the view. The cabin as the outside bathrooms for the vineyard. Thank goodness no one was there this weekend so there was no noise. It is a good place to stay but it needs to be warmer weather.

The cabin was not on river . There was a building straight in front of us so you had to walk around to see the river. They make it sound like you can sit on the porch ,& see the river but not true. The cBin wasn't very clean.

Our stay was amazing
Taking the trip to the mountains in winter can be challenging. When we arrived at the small lodge, we were the only ones there. It was a little unsettling until we got inside of the cabin and immediately fell in love with its quaintness and quiet surroundings. The property is right on a shallow river. Other guests arrived and it turned out to be a lovely group. The property has a vineyard and the gracious host offered us a wine tasting event. Traphill is very rural and so the surroundings are mostly farmhouses and rolling hills. We are looking forward to coming back in the summer time where the trees are full of leaves and the vineyards are producing their grapes. I give this lodge a strong recommendation. 9/10

Cute Little Cabin
This little cabin is perfect for a weekend getaway. The bed is extremely comfortable. Most amenities have been thought of and provided. We would suggest a larger TV. The weather was bad, so we were stuck inside with it. We were disappointed with the cleanliness. The refrigerator had a large amount of grape juice stains in the bottom. The top of refrigerator and shelves were very dusty. The on-site restaurant is delicious, and the staff are very friendly. The sound and sight of the on-site river is very peaceful and soothing. We would definitely stay here again.

Getaway
Perfect place for us. Lots of convenience items in the cabin when you arrive. Close enough to town but out far enough for the peace and quiet we like. No cars running through, at the end of the housing units and peaceful at night. Others are around but the cabin gives that tranquility to it. Met the owners and they are very personable and polite people. Just a good place to get away for a while and unplug. If you stay here ask them for directions for McGradys Cafe. A wonderful place nearby for dining.

Josephine speaking: I was born in France of German parents, and moved to the States when I was 15 years. Graduated from San Jose State University with BS in Business Administration. I worked for IBM for 17 years, and was transferred about every 3 years to a new location, including oversees assignment in Tokyo, Japan for 3 years. After that, I worked in Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) at First Union Bank (now Wells Fargo Bank). My husband and I now live on our vineyard.
Tom Silvey's Speaking: I am from Harriman, TN and grew up on my beloved mountains, overlooking a beautiful lake. I graduated from Le Tourneau University with an Engineering degree, and have been working for Westinghouse which later became Siemens. I had to work on numerous projects which required extensive travel abroad (China, Japan and in Europe). I developed a taste for traveling and was happy that Josephine loves traveling as well.
Josephine and I met in Charlotte and got married in 1993. Both of us were married before so we blended our children into our new family (Josephine‘s daughter and my two daughters and son). We are now empty-nesters, but the family keeps growing with the addition of grandchildren, three grand-sons, and two grand-daughters so fa. Since acquiring the vineyard, we have traveled extensively to wine growing regions to develop our knowledge of viticulture and enology. Our knowledge must include best practices used, not only in our region, but also in other parts of the world.

Why they chose this property

The setting of this property is gorgeous and reminiscent of French riverbank hillside vineyards. We knew we had a gem as soon as we saw the property, and soon after that the dream was born. We wanted others to discover what we had found, an area rich in history, of moonshine and NASCAR, close to Stone Mountain State Park, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and dotted with many wineries along the NC Wine Route. People come here from all over to enjoy the foliage in fall, to hike, fish, hunt, and partake of all the things the region has to offer. We are in the country but close to both Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Charlotte and to the VA border. Recommended for adults, romantic getaways, sports retreat, and economic getaway.

What makes this property unique

You have the opportunity to stay in lovely cabin just feet from the river. The cabin is located on on a 50-acre estate, at the Roaring River Vineyards. You enter the property through an elegant stone entrance, with two fishing ponds on each side, and see the vineyards going up the slope in front of you. You follow the directional signs up a the access road, first passing a large mountain home, and the event venue called 'The Gathering Place' to the cabin on the river bank literally just 20 feet away from the Roaring River. Nearby are the ruins of the dam that served the gristmill and sawmill across the river. The miller's cabin (17930 is still intact and we hope to refurbish it in the near future. The Gathering Place's indoor site can be rented for events or for guest use when they rent all the available units and wish to eat and spend time together. The beauty of the setting slowly registers with you, as you take in the view. You hear the sounds of the river cascading over large boulders, and the next thing you know you’re fishing and hoping to catch that “prize winning” trout. If you are not in the mood for fishing you might decide instead to relax on the sandy river beach, catch-up on some reading, cool-off in the river or picnic amongst the grapevines. Nature lovers will enjoy the sightings of the abundant wildlife. You can do whatever you want when you are here. You can just relax or you may want to engage in as many activities as the region has to offer, it’s up to you! One of the benefits of being on a private estate is that you can fish on our private ponds year-round without a license. We also allow bow-hunting on our grounds. For those of you “wannabe” grape-growers, you can pick the grapes at harvest time or help crush grapes. We are open to that! Who knows, there may be a budding winemaker among you. Also, you are in the heart of wine country and can easily go from one winery to another, enjoy Stone Mountain State Park with all it has to offer.
