Villa Jalapa Costa Rica - Secluded Family Beach House Amazing View Private Pool

A luxurious fully appointed 3 bed/ 3.5 bath house with living room, full kitchen, dining area and private pool. Perfect for a family or group of friends who want a comfortable yet modern and elegant place to enjoy their time on one of Central America's most exclusive beaches!
Located in the secluded Nicoya Peninsula in the Costa Rican province of Guanacaste, you will awaken to the sound of Howler monkeys in the trees, step outside to see migrating whales from the comfort of the pool, and witness the beautiful Scarlet Macaws as they make their way through the trees. You can spend your days at Villa Jalapa laying by the pool or ocean, reading in a hammock, or going on surfing, kayaking and fishing adventures. On your short walk to the beach, you can encounter deer, coatis and countless tropical birds, or you can lay by the pool and watch these amazing creatures as you sun bathe or sip on a drink. If you’re searching for unique experiences in this remote part of Costa Rica, you can go to neighboring Camaronal Wildlife Refuge to see nesting sea turtles at night and newborn hatchlings at dawn or dusk, or surf on its world class, powerful and uncrowded waves. Similar experiences can be found at Corozalito beach, where surfing and turtles abound and even fewer people visit. In addition, our friendly local operators offer multiple tours including ocean and mangrove kayaking, horseback riding, surfing lessons, stand up paddle boarding, sport fishing, and yoga. The small luxury hotel next door also offers zip lining tours, a tennis and pickleball court and a cocktail bar on the beach. For those in search of a cultural experience, the local town of Islita, within walking distance, offers community guided tours of the women's art cooperative and the outdoor art museum. You may also request to take Tico (Costa Rican) cooking and tropical cocktail mixing lessons. Guests of Villa Jalapa will enjoy all the comforts of home with on site property management to meet every vacation wish you could possibly have.

Originally built in 1997, Villa Jalapa underwent a major renovation during the fall of 2013 and emerged as an elegant yet comfortable vacation paradise. With its own private, gated entrance, 24 hour security and parking for as many as 5 vehicles, no expense was sparred. The property is made up of 4 individual buildings: 3, 1 bedroom villas nestled around the central living/dining/kitchen area which opens to the infinity pool. Villa 1 boasts a king size bed with sliding glass door out to the patio leading to the pool, a bathroom with shower, flat screen television, and air conditioning. Villas 2 and 3 each have 2 full size beds, bathroom with shower, flat screen television, air conditioning, and sliding glass door to the patio leading to the pool. A large Flat screen television in the living area, stainless steel appliances, stone counter tops, and cool tile flooring. The kitchen is stocked with cookware, plates & silverware, glasses & wine glasses, toaster, blender, coffee maker, Full size commercial refrigerator, separate full size standup commercial freezer, dishwasher, stove, oven and microwave.

The comfortable living area has a 50” flat screen smart HDTV, an iPod/iPhone docking stereo system, and a suite of board and card games for groups of all ages. Comfortable seating for meals and lounging up to 12 people and large double opening sliding glass doors facing the pool and ocean make this the heart of the property.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are equipped with all linens and will be serviced daily by the on site staff to clean floors, beds and bathrooms. Within a 10km range surfers of all levels of experience will find conditions suitable to their ability, with the crown jewel being playa Camaronal's powerful and uncrowded beach break waves. The bedrooms have luxurious bedding, full sized dressers, closets with hangers, and flat screen televisions.

Villa Jalapa is also perfect if you are attending an event at the Punta Islita Hotel.

Great Views
The place was as described! It was a rocky ride over as we drove for about an hour on bumpy dirt roads the last hour to the house. It's best to reach the house before sunset. The driveway is a little steep so you definitely need 4 wheel drive to drive up and also to get into Islita. The property manager who lives at the bottom of the driveway came and greeted us when we arrived. She was nice and showed us around. The bedrooms each have an a/c unit. Just be aware there can be the occasional bug. It's normal given the tropical climate. There is no a/c in the common area/kitchen. Also there was an ant infestation on the back counter. We were cutting fruit on the cutting board and they came out everywhere very fast and were all over the trashcans in the drawers of the back counter. There is a full fridge and full freezer. We had all the dishes and cooking tools you could ever need! Also we got a surprised one morning when the gardener and pool cleaners came by. One of my friends was using the outdoor shower by the pool at the time. It would have been nice if the host gave us a heads up before as we believed we had the place to ourselves. Playa Islita is a 7-10 minute walk away. We also visited Playa Carrillo about 30 minutes away. The large grocery store is around the same distance away. There is a convenient store about 5 minutes drive down the road. Do grab dinner next door at Alma. The house was in a serene and quiet location.

A wonderful trip!
This is our second time staying at Diego’s house. He is very easy to communicate with, got back to us very quickly, and always had suggestions and advice. The caretaker, Lisbeth, was very friendly and helped us out throughout our stay. The house is beautiful and the location is wonderful. You are in the middle of nature, with scenic views, animal watching and critters around! We loved it!

Great family vacation.
This is a great property with everything we needed. It is a secluded location so the roads are a little challenging but once you are there, it is just wonderful. We enjoyed the pool, the magnificent views and even seeing wildlife ( monkeys and red macaws) from the villa. Access to the beach, bar and restaurants within walking distance. Lizbeth is a great cook and she made our stay even more enjoyable and worry free.

Beautiful stay in quiet, friendly, local area
We had a wonderful stay in Punta Islita. The house was amazing — perfect for a group of friends as it features a central shared kitchen and living room which is surrounded by 3 private bedroom villas — all leading out to the pool. The villas were quiet, clean, with great AC making for a comfortable stay. The location, while in a quiet rural area, had several great local restaurants nearby and was a quick 10 minute walk to a beautiful quiet beach. The locals are so friendly and we also enjoyed doing activities/ excursions via the hotel next door. Diego was incredibly helpful and answered any questions we had in preparation for the trip. Lisbeth, the house caretaker and chef was absolutely wonderful. I HIGHLY recommend hiring her to cook some meals at the house. Probably the best food we had all trip. We would happily return any time :)

Amazing family vacation
This vacation ticked all the boxes. We needed a down time for everyone to relax and connect. This property did that. Even without car rentals, we found things to do, walking to Islita and the beach every day. Loved the community and can’t wait to go back.

BEAUTIFUL location and an excellent time with family. Lizbeth's meals were superb—everything you could want in a family setting with many activity options. The only downside was a few ants that we controlled with a bit of vinegar and a sprinkling of coffee grounds. Such AMAZING memories of my family time in Playa Islita at Villa Jalapa.

Ok, but needs to improve
The property is ok, the manager and person responsible to receive us was very kind. but the property needs maintenance. Kitchen cabinets are damaged, and main room with Living room don't have a/c and gets too hot. Rooms are ok, and the pool is nice.

Beautiful, remote home to relax and enjoy nature!
The main building opens to a beautiful pool. The terrace was the perfect place to view the scenery, including birds, wildlife, and the ocean. All of the buildings were clean and comfortable, and the mattresses and bedding were comfortable. A few things needed some upkeep (such as a loose kitchen faucet), but the beauty of the home and the outstanding service and responsiveness made up for that. Lizbeth (the manager) was amazing. She prepared a delicious and beautiful meal for the six of us. A few "sodas" were nearby, but the hours were not always convenient for us. However, there is a hotel nearby with a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There were 2 beaches nearby, and another one 30 minutes away. I do recommend a vehicle with 4 wheel-drive. I would definitely recommend Villa Jalapa to friends and would love to stay there again.

Loved it!
We had a great 7 night stay here! Two adults and four university age kids. It’s definitely remote and the town and area restaurants are charming. We had a 4x4 and were glad to have it! There were howler monkeys and macaws in the trees every day and we spent hours in the pool after venturing out to do activities like surf school, horseback riding and art classes. The management at the neighboring hotel was wonderful on multiple occasions. The housekeeper Lisbeth took great care of us and her cooking was fabulous!! We made so many memories that will last a lifetime! Thank you for sharing this magical place with us!

Great ocean escape
The house is as advertised, beautiful and well equipped. The location is isolated enough for privacy, but only 35 minutes from Samara. There is air conditioning in all of the bedrooms, which is necessary given the heat and humidity. The property manager Diego is really helpful and communicative. A great location!

Stunning Property
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this property. Most of our time spent there was in the gorgeous pool watching the Macaws as they flew overhead. Our group consisted of 2 families - 4 adults and 5 kids ranging in ages of 5-16. Diego the property owner and Lisbeth the property manager were both very responsive whenever we had any questions and on top of things if/when we needed them. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful Week of Fun and Relaxation
We visited Costa Rica with our family of 6 (3 teens and a 25 yo). We all loved Costa Rica and thoroughly enjoyed staying at Villa Jalapa! It was amazing! The communication and care shown by both Diego and Lisbeth was excellent. The property was even more beautiful than the pictures online. Our family thoroughly enjoyed playing in the pool, cooking together in the large well equipped open kitchen, listening to the howler monkeys over our morning cup of coffee (we saw a family of them on the property one morning), the many macaw sightings, the access we had to the Marriott to lounge by the beach and enjoy the swim up bar from time to time, and all of the excursions we did while there.. Diego provided many helpful suggestions on things to do. While there we went whale watching, surfing, visited the Macaw Recovery Center next door, went to Corzalitto to watch the sea turtles lay their eggs one night, kayaked and snorkeled. It was truly a dream vacation and we can’t wait to return! Thank you so much, Diego and Lisbeth, for helping to create such a memorable experience for our family!

Fantastic!
Fantastic stay! First time in Costa Rica! Amazing pool and amenities! Grateful for the SUV we rented to travel the last bumpy 10 km. Beach club of the local hotel was very accommodating for a cabana rental when we wanted to splurge. Natural sightings of howler monkeys and macaws. Also a wonderful visit to The Jungle Butterfly farm. Walked to the couple local restaurants - perfect after spending all day in the sun/pool. Would love to come back!

A perfect week
Villa Jalapa is wonderful and when I return to Costa Rica, I can't imagine staying anywhere else. The location is perfect - a few minutes walk to the beach, town, and places to hike. We were 9 and while everyone (including the kids) had plenty of space to run around, there were also lots of ways to find peace and quiet. There are incredible views and a super great pool that looks out over the ocean. The house is well-equipped and comfortable. We had some issues with minor repairs (cabinet pulls) and the dishwasher, which we were warned about, all of which was understandable given we were there end of the season. Diego and Lisbeth were responsive and super gracious, even when the very excited kids damaged the couch. Diego made it super easy to be there - putting us in touch with Heiner, who picked us up and drove us back to Liberia and also took us on a mid-week excursion. Having the hotel next door is convenient and they are very friendly to non-guests. My 5-year old granddaughter and I went for mani/pedis and we all had a great breakfast there one morning after the beach. Can't say enough about this great place and its hosts.

Great Stay at villa Jalapa
We stayed for a week and we had a great time. The pool and view were amazing! The kitchen was well stocked with many items for cooking our own meal. Diego helped us order local fish which was delivered at the door and was amazing. We saw monkeys and many other animals and insects which the kids loved. The beach was a short distance by walking and we could do surfing with nice waves! Overall great stay!

Loved the pool, the layout, separate casitas, super comfy beds. Views of howler monkeys, coatis, scarlet macaws from the property. Short walk to beach and Marriott hotel. Beach bar is a plus. Expensive however with Cdn exchange. A bit of a climb to get home. Grounds professionally cared for. Well worth a visit.

Villa Jalapa is a lovely home The pool is the highlight Diego, property contact, was excellent at assisting with our needs The adjoining hotel has great pickleball courts which we used everyday The beach is nice The hotel needs to be more accommodating to non hotel guests Such as us staying at villas Highlights include the housekeeper Lisbeth Her cooking is fabulous and it’s so great to have a clean home Dining- the hotel is good but best restaurant is aromas nearby- don’t miss it And kimbute and don Ramiro’s- although we gave up trying to dine there This was a return visit for us The golf course doesn’t exist now But the area is beautiful A golf cart included with the house would make it super special since it’s a long hill up to the house

Great property!
We loved our stay. It is remote and the road not great (we came from Arenal). But the property is lovely. And Lizbeth is all the great things you have heard. Amazing food at $20 a meal and she secured the seafood for us. The bedrooms are wonderful (although towel racks dangerous for tall people!). Great touch having shampoo, body wash in the showers. Would benefit from a suitcase rack. Communication great with Diego - very responsive. Loved the pool and the rooftop - scarlet macaws morning and evening to spot. Kitchen is very well equipped, although we didn’t use most of it because we left it up to Lizbeth. We played a couple games which were supplied, very fun. Overall a great visit, and highly recommend!

Amazing Property!
Our stay at Villa Jalapa was amazing from start to finish! Lisbeth was an AMAZING cook and took great pride in cooking and cleaning for us the entire time we were there. Our kids loved everything she made! The rooms were beautiful and comfortable and the bird watching in the morning was really great. Would definitely stay again! We loved the town of Islita and all the people there! We spent a day at the beach and rented a cabana from the local hotel with food and drink service to our chairs. We all did surf lessons on the beach and had a great time. My daughter and I did a 30 minute massage at the outdoor "spa" in a private cabana that was super peaceful and secluded. If you want to eat at the local Don Romero's you need a reservation, but I would highly recommend it! It's a very intimate setting with the chef preparing food especially for you!

Amazing home and location!
Our family of 6 could not have asked for a better home on our recent trip to Costa Rica. We had plenty of space to enjoy our stay at home. We separate sleeping quarters, our four teenagers had the space they needed. The pool and surroundings are so peaceful. Punta Islita beach down the road is very secluded and private! We had all the waves to ourselves. The beds were superior, the kitchen was stocked, the TV streaming was perfection! Can not think of a thing we needed during our stay. The convenience store up the road had last minute items. But the icing on the cake was Lisbeth! She truly made the trip just that bit more special. She is kind and willing to answer questions — her cooking was truly authentic and better than any restaurant we visited. Get her menu before arriving and grab the ingredients and you are set! This was a vacation for the parents. Thank you Diego for sharing this beautiful home! This will not be our last visit to the beautiful country of Costa Rica!!

Amazing stay
We stayed at Villa Jalapa for 3 weeks and our stay could not have been any better. The host was very attentive and quick to respond to any questions we had. We took advantage of Lisbeth who tends to the property daily for meals and her meals were better than any restaurant. Her personality and care for the home was outstanding. The house is even more beautiful than the pictures show but true to detail. Islita is the hidden gem of Costa Rica. We were at our own private oasis yet there were so many accessible restaurants due to the neighbouring hotel. The drive from Samara to Islita is rugged at the end and 4 x 4 is recommended but it adds to the appreciation of this beautiful property. We saw macaws, howler monkeys, white faced caupchins,… nature all around us. The infinity pool was incredible and many hours were spent here daily. We did the 1 km walk to Punta Islita every morning and felt like we had the entire beach to ourselves. Somehow 3 weeks was not enough time here.

Host profile image
This property is owned by a Costa Rican family that has been spending time in the area since the mid 90s. We love this place because we enjoy nature and the beach. Our mom is a former executive director of the Costa Rican National Parks Foundation and both of us, her children, followed suit, becoming a tropical biologist and an oceanographer and avid surfer. This property has become our family’s refuge from everyday hustle and bustle, and we love to be able to share it with all of our guests.

Why they chose this property

Our 9,000m2 (96,875 sq ft) property provides the ambiance of a private retreat. Our family purchased the property as an escape from the busy city life in order to be immersed in a totally natural environment surrounded by wildlife. The recent renovation transformed it from the original rustic getaway to a luxurious oasis within the same beautiful surroundings we found so enticing. In an area where rustic reigns, this Mediterranean-style villa provides a sophisticated refuge for all nature lovers.

What makes this property unique

The unique construction of our property encompasses 4 buildings - 3 suites, each with full bathrooms, and the kitchen and common room, with 1/2 bath, which open onto the infinity pool & overlook the ocean. This gathering room has a professional kitchen that brings out everyone’s inner chef and makes for great bonding time. The large 50" flat screen television with cable programming, variety of board games, and the free wifi make our home an ideal hangout space for friends or family alike, as boredom will never be a problem. Finish the day in the rooftop lounge area, where you can soak in the tropical sun and view the ocean, wildlife, and endless stars at night. When you're ready for your own space, however, your private suite is just a few steps away.
