Serene getaway with comforts of home
Brad’s place is an absolute gem! The check in process was easy, the listing just as described, and communication was timely and pleasant. This well cared for cottage is a wonderful getaway tucked back off the road with plenty of privacy, but still convenient to restaurants, beaches, biking, and trips to Wellfleet, Truro, or Ptown. Had all the comforts of home. Best and most unique features were the outdoor shower (private, but completely open with a view of the woods - one of the best outdoor showers I’ve ever used, in fact, no need to shower indoors!), screened porch with ample seating and easy access to kitchen or outdoors, and the home’s high ceilings and overall charm. Great property for a couple, or a family with kids (ours are 1 and 10). We will definitely be back!

We had a wonderful time at Brad’s house. The house itself is very clean, comfortable and stylish. The location is both secluded and conveniently located. And Brad was very considerate, answering all our questions promptly and checking in to see if we were ok. We plan to stay there again next year.

Amazing stay
Brad's home in Truro was perfect in every way. I loved how secluded the location felt, while being close to beaches and everything I needed in Wellfleet. The home itself was a dream - woody, breezy, equipped with everything I needed, and comfortable as can be. I enjoyed spending time on the screened in porch and running around the neighborhood. Would definitely recommend and hopefully return next year!

Perfect environment and nest
Rose Hill is a lovely calm quiet cape house to rest and get your bearings away from your regular surroundings. The house is designed with care and the setting is all one needs to get the most from this beautiful offerings of Truro. Brad was a perfect host from a distance and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience discovering the offerings of this home.

Quite in the woods -near the ocean and bay beaches
We loved our stay at RoseHill, quite rustic charm. This lovely home, situated in the quite woods of Truro. The beauty of this oasis is the close proximity to the Gorgeous beaches of Truro and Wellfleet. During our stay we visited 5 separate beaches all within a 10 minute drive (some as close as 5 minutes). The house is very comfortable with a wonderful kitchen and great decks on the front and back of house.—the outdoor shower was a magical treat. You will NOT be disappointed with this rental!

Peaceful and secluded post and beam home with great porches
Terrific house on top of Rose Hill on a four acre secluded property off a quiet and very bike friendly road close to beaches and kettle ponds. Great place to read, think, and listen to the sounds of nature. Heard a whip-poor-will for the first time! Second bedroom has access to the upstairs porch so our daughter and her friend had their own space to hang out. Down stairs porch is screened in and is a great spot for dining together. We've had great experiences with VRBO owners, and Brad is the most responsive owner that we've worked with. Highly recommended.

Peaceful location in Truro
We had a great two week stay in August. The location was secluded just as other reviewers had noted. The house had a great mix of Cape character mixed with updated amenities (stove, washer, dryer, dishwasher). Would definitely stay again!

Best of Truro with all the convenience of Wellfleet and Provincetown nearby
We have been renting a place on the outer Cape for over 20 years and typically stay in Provincetown. In light of COVID19 we wanted to avoid the crowds of Ptown but also use it as a chance to get to know Truro better. Rose Hill was the perfect place for us - quiet and remote feeling but easy to get to Wellfleet and just a short drive to Provincetown and Herring Cove. We decided to also cook more and the new stove Brad had installed recently was a dream to use. As was the well equipped kitchen. We had dinner every night on the sweet and spacious screened in porch. I was more than happy to cook after a relaxing day at the beach and an outdoor shower back at the house - the property is VERY private and serene. As others have said the birdsong is wonderful in the morning and evening. Ryder Pond Is a special swimming spot within a nice walk or quick bike ride from the house. Some easy put-in spots for our kayaks both in Truro and Wellfleet. It was also nice having quick and easy access to all the Truro beaches — Brad had pre-filled our forms to pick up our beach permit the day we arrived making it super easy. Brad was very responsive before and during our visit. Super friendly and helpful. We’ve already expressed interest in renting next summer.

Rose Hill Paradise
What a perfect get away! Rose Hill is secluded and enchanting, and was the perfect ape Cod experience. Nestled in the National Seashore, it is moments from everything you could want, beaches, hiking, biking and outstanding food and shopping. We've been to Cape Cod many times, but this place was our favorite. We will miss it, and dream of returning next next year!

A most welcoming place for relaxing mornings and several beaches to chose from for the afternoon.
This house is well situated for a full Cape Cod experience because it is near great uncrowded beaches on the Bay or Ocean side and still remote enough to give you a peaceful getaway. It is near Wellfleet and Truro Center for great restaurants and shops. The house itself is well furnished with internet, Direct TV, a modern kitchen, outdoor grill, new washer and dryer and comfortable beds. The large screened in porch is a great place for relaxing. We have returned for many years. The O'Briens - Maryland

A wonderful first visit to Cape Cod
We enjoyed a week of pure bliss at Rose Hill cottage and fell in love with the Wellfleet/Truro region of the Outer Cape. I second all the other reviewers' comments. Rose Hill was exactly as described and pictured in the photos. The cottage was roomy and functional for all aspects of everyday living for my husband and myself. There was also plenty of room and privacy when our two adult sons came for a three-night visit. The architecture and elegantly simple furnishings of the cottage and the untamed beauty of the surrounding landscape (moss coved pitch pines, scrub oaks, dune grass, bayberry and rugosa roses) created an altogether aesthetic experience. Both the hammock on the upper porch and the hammock in the yard provided perfect napping pleasure after days at Long Nook beach, biking on the Cape Cod rail trail, wine tastings at the Truro Vineyards, and exploring Wellfleet and Provincetown. Each evening we enjoyed sunsets at one of the several bayside beaches -- Duck Harbor, Ryder, Fischer, Corn Hill -- that are only minutes from Rose Hill. Brad, our host, answered all our questions and provided invaluable suggestions for exploring the Cape. I'm counting the days until we can return to Rose Hill!

Fantastic Get Away
This was the 4th year that my husband and I have rented this house for a week. We enjoy the seclusion, the birds, and being surrounded by trees, for leisurely mornings to paint or read. The house itself is attractive, open, and spacious with upper and lower porches. Being close to Ryder's beach on the bay side, several the ocean beaches, and bike trails makes the afternoons filled with fun. The location near Wellfleet and South Truro is away from all the traffic of the mid-cape and provides for convenient shops, restaurants, art galleries, our favorite used book store for a rainy day, and delicious pastries at Jams.

Privacy, natural beauty, great interior design
The other reviews speak the truth. There are no other houses or buildings visible or audible from this house; the driveway is about 1/6 of a mile long, and there is a big clear field to the west that gives an open view of the sky and great light. The outdoor shower is hot & cold, and you can wander naked from there to the new deck and let the sun dry you without fear of being seen. The full-length screened porch is a great place to eat dinner, the upstairs bedrooms catch cooling breezes, the location is fantastically convenient: bicycling times: Wellfleet 20 minutes, Ryder Beach 5 minutes, Ballston Beach 30 minutes (you can figure out the driving times). Bird-song is a big plus: listen to the whip-or-will sing at night or the finches and thrushes all day. We've stayed in at least 5 other houses in Wellfleet, all nice; but none can touch this, and we will be back for the sixth time next summer.

A specatular idyll!
I can't say enough about this property, it was just wonderful! My family and I have been vacationing on Cape Cod for the past 5 years, but this was our first foray to the Truro/Wellfleet area. We carefully researched what was available, and were immediately taken by this house. What we saw when we arrived was even more beautiful than we hoped for. The setting is quietly spectacular, surrounded by forest on a knoll, but with sufficient clearing to bathe the house in sunlight. The house itself is beautiful, and the layout was perfect for my wife and I and our two children (ages 9 and 6). Preparing meals was a pleasure, and we frequently opted to eat outside on the comfortable porch. The place was spotless, and the master bathroom upstairs was plenty large enough to accomodate us (there's also a half-bath on the ground floor). While it wasn't necessary for our kids, families with very young children will be happy to know that the railings on the upstairs (inside) balcony are supplemented by heavy-duty (and unobtrusive) plexiglass to make sure small people don't slip through in their explorations! There was plenty of comfortable space inside for us to spread out and for the kids to play (or watch, when we let them)...but the real fun was getting out! The house is at the southern edge of Truro, and about a mile or so from the bay. We spent most of our beach days (meaning, most of our days) at Ryder Beach, 5 minutes by car (parking available with your Truro beach sticker) or a 20 minute walk through the woods and marshes. What a beautiful beach! No crowds, pristine sand for miles, generally protected from high wind and surf, a view along the arc of the Cape up to Provincetown; just a great place to spend the day. Wellfeet center is about a 10 minute drive. It's become our favorite town on the Cape, really low-key and charming. We enjoyed eating at Mac's by the harbor, and then dancing on the big pier on Wednesday nights. There were plenty of other activities provided by Wellfleet's parks and rec department...lots of fun! And the sunsets are just stunning. There are other great restaurants and shops, galleries, biking on the CCRT (from the Wellfleet terminus), so plenty to keep us occupied. Of course, there were so many places to explore we can't mention them all: Truro, P-town... Finally, kudos to the owner, who was just great, very helpful and easy to reach; he made the whole process easy! I couldn't recommend this place more highly.

Perfect Cape Cod vacation
I have been reluctant to give this home a review, as I don't want to give away the secret - our stay was perfect because this home is exquisite. The pictures don't lie - and it's even better in person. The post and beam architecture is beautiful and this home is solid - built with quality materials and a lot of thoughtful consideration and care. It is clearly a well-loved home and it shows. The moment you step foot inside (well, the moment you drive up to the house!), you feel as though you are home. I did at least - it is cozy and quaint, yet spacious and functional. It is simple, yet filled with taste and charm at every turn. Staying there made me long to simplify my life. I truly could have stayed forever. It is private and a real getaway from "the rat race" - one I run every day and desperately needed a break from. It did not disappoint! My family got tired of hearing me tell them how much I loved being there!! It's a home where you wouldn't even mind a day or two of rain on vacation - because you could be cozy inside with your family, playing games, reading, listening to music, napping, cooking, just relaxing in general in a very comfortable, happy spot. Brad was also extremely responsive and communicative and made our accommodations so easy and pleasant. Everything was taken care of, including a full supply of toilet paper, paper towels and paper napkins (these little things really make a huge difference - I'm on vacation, I don't want to have to think about what to add to my shopping list!). It is also close to the things and places we love on Cape Cod: The Wicked Oyster, Blackfish, Long Nook Beach, Ballston Beach, Wellfleet, Sweet Escape, biking and hiking, Mac's and many lobster rolls (all just minutes away by car), and not far from Race Point (the tide pools are a must!) and Provincetown. Brad leaves a plethora of information in the home about his favorite spots and things to do and he knows what he's talking about! Bottom line - this place is a gem. It's very special and I feel lucky to have stumbled upon it. My family and I plan to go back as much as we can for as long as we live!

This property/home description was spot on, as they say and did not disappoint!
I've been vacationing on Cape Cod for many years now. Truro is my preferred destination for it's tranquility, beauty, peacefulness and overall sense of that place that feels a million miles away. Well this property/home had that same feeling. It's quite private, nestled on a beautiful knoll surrounded by only the trees and the birds. The sunsets were amazing right from the porch or on a lawn chair resting on the hillside with your favorite beverage. The quiet is deafening, no noisy neighbors, you cannot even hear the street traffic. The house has a wonderful airy feeling to it, with the windows opened up, there was a gentle breeze throughout. This home is quite unique with it's post and beam construction, yet it's quite cozy and comfortable. We wanted for nothing. Everything you would need was provided, including all the necessary equipment for those home cooked lobsters that are a must while in the area. There was also a nicely put together binder with a listing of recommended and favorite restaurants and activities which we took full advantage of. There is a wonderful and interesting collection of books for your reading pleasure, many regarding the history of the lower Cape and surrounding areas. The bedrooms were quite cozy as well and completely private one from the other. One bedroom offering a second story porch right outside. The beaches in Truro are unmatched in beauty. Bayside or ocean side are each only minutes away. There is a nice trail through the woods on bayside just steps from the driveway to the home. The owner/s were quite kind and informative the whole rental process, even so far as checking in with us to make sure we had no issues or questions once there. I would recommend this property completely with no reservations. I cannot even think of one complaint we had. I would come back year after year to this same home, perhaps choose to not even leave, if that were an option..........:)

About the host

Hosted by Brad Brewster

Host profile image
I'm an urban planner and an architectural historian who lives and works in San Francisco, but I designed this house for my parents on their property on the cape. We have spent many wonderful summers here, and have lovingly maintained this family summer home.

Why they chose this property

This property has been in the family since the 1880s, but was never developed until 1990, when this custom house was built in the form of a traditional salt-box with post-and-beam construction methods using reclaimed timbers and local stones. It has been a special place for our family, and I hope it can be for yours too!

What makes this property unique

The complete privacy, lovely scented breezes from the front porch, views of the forest, song birds, and sunsets make this a special place. After a day at the beach or the ponds, it's great to rinse off in the outdoor shower. After a week at Rose Hill, you will feel completely relaxed and at one with nature.
