The Petit Morne Cottage consists of two identical semi-detached houses and is designed in the typical Creole colonial style. The colonial design with natural materials fits optically into the tropical surrounding area and makes this house something special. Such an architecture can normally only be found in high-priced villas. Each house is tastefully furnished, have direct access to the pool and are surrounded by a tropical garden. Enjoy breathtaking view on the lagoon and the mountains.
The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, kettle, coffee maker, toaster and dishwasher to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
The bed and living rooms are equipped with air conditioning, which will be charged on consumption. For one night you have to calculate 1-3 euros electricity consumption. The capacity is designed for 4 people and can be occupied by 5 people in exceptional cases. There are a total of 2 double beds and one single bed. We can also provide a cot.
Each house has a parking lot on the property and a separate entrance door. The houses are secured by an alarm system and video surveillance. The hot water supply in the house is provided by a solar system.
You find a spacious living-dining area including a fully equipped kitchen on the ground floor. On the same level you find a modern bathroom with a walk-in shower and a separate toilet.
From the living room you have direct access to the spacious, covered veranda, which is equipped with garden furniture.
The two bedrooms are upstairs. One bedroom faces to the sea and comes with a double bed, a large wardrobe, a safe and air conditioning. In addition, the room has direct access to the large covered balcony with sea view, which is typical of old colonial houses in Mauritius. The roof protects against the sun and tropical rain showers.
The second, larger bedroom leads to the mountains comes with a double and a single bed, a large wardrobe, air conditioning and access to the small veranda. A staircase leads from the second bedroom to the roof terrace, which offers a breathtaking view over the entire lagoon.
You find a second toilet on the upper floor between the two bedrooms.
If you like to book the entire house with two families you can roll up the blinds on the main terrace, to create a huge shared porch.
Access to the pool can be secured with a mobile fence so that children cannot fall into the water.
The residential area “Le Petit Morne” belongs to the village of Coteau Raffin, it’s located between Le Morne and La Gaulette on the west coast of Maurtius. The uninhabited island of Île aux Bénitiers is situated in the lagoon in vicinity of the house. The area is surrounded by the green mountains of Chamarel and Le Morne in the back and a turquoise lagoon in front of the village. However, there are no beaches on this stretch of coast, the houses of the locals were built here directly in front of the sea. It takes only five minutes by car to visit the wonderful beaches of Le Morne or La Prairie.
This charming house is located in Coteau Raffin, an authentic part of Mauritius, right next to a simple fishing village. The people here live in simple yet happy and contented conditions – far from the hustle and bustle of tourist hotspots.
To European eyes, the village may initially seem chaotic or untidy, but those who take the time to engage with the locals and the culture will discover the true beauty of this place. The real splendor lies not in the facades, but in the heart of the community – in the friendly, warm-hearted people who call this village home.
When traveling to Africa, it's important to understand that life here is different from the Western industrialized world. The people here live with far less money, and as a result, their living conditions are simpler. However, despite these differences, the people live in peace and contentment. Their way of life is based on community, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for the essentials.
In this environment, you’ll discover the true meaning of happiness and togetherness. While daily life may seem unfamiliar to European eyes, it’s filled with a positive, life-affirming energy that you’ll feel from the moment you arrive.
If you’re open to experiencing authentic life – the small things that are often overlooked – you will be inspired by the warmth of the people and their ability to lead fulfilling lives despite having fewer material possessions.
The village has several street food and fruit stalls, a restaurant and small grocery stores (boutik) as well as a small organic vegetable farm. In the neighboring town of La Gaulette you will find more restaurants, bars, surf shops, surf repair shops and a modern supermarket. It is an ideal destination for those who value high quality architecture, and want to discover the authenticity and the wild coastline of Mauritius.
For a better mobility we recommend to book a rental car.
The water in the house is heated only by a solar system. In the evening you should not shower too long, at some point the buffer is empty and is not reheated without sun. During the day and when the sun is shining you can shower as long as you want.
Mauritius is a tropical island and the heat means that windows and doors are usually open. Therefore, even with intensive cleaning, it is not possible to get rid of all insects. Do not leave food open, close the package after use or put the food in the refrigerator. There they are safe from ants and other insects.
