Labin is a historic town that is mentioned as early as the 2nd century BC, back then called Albona. In 1921, Labin was also shortly an independent republic, declared by the miners after the strike. Labin is interesting because of its cultural and historical sites such as the city walls and gates from the 16th century.
The town lodge located outside the city walls dates from the same period. Another must-see place in Labin is the Negri Palace. Palace built in the 16th century. In the Renaissance style, it was repurposed several times throughout history, so in addition to the home of the Negri family, after which it was named, it also served as a maternity hospital, hospital and later as a school.
Particularly interesting activities that you will find in Istria are olive oil tours and wine tours, authentic products of this region. Istria is known as a champion in the cultivation and production of top varieties of wine such as Malvasia, Chardonnay, Muscat, Teran or Merlot. Therefore, do not miss to visit one of the many wineries and taste some of the best wines in Europe.
Also, the cultivation of olive oil is another special feature of this region, which is called magical Istria due to its beautiful landscape. The gastronomic offer also includes truffles, an expensive underground gem with a bitter taste that no true gourmet will resist.
A little north of Labin is the Učka Nature Park, which connects Istria and the continental part of Croatia. The specific climate and geographical position make this mountain especially interesting for all those who want a dynamic holiday in nature.
