About this property

Your Home On The Range—Sleeps Six or More

This beautifully appointed 1,100 sq. ft. guesthouse rests on 20 private acres between Bozeman and Big Sky—minutes from Bozeman Airport.

Your family or group will experience rustic luxury, modern amenities, and breathtaking 360-degree mountain views.

And if fly fishing is your passion, public access to the Gallatin River is less than five minutes away, filled with 12" to 20" native browns, rainbows, and the occasional grayling. This section of the River is ideal to safely walk and wade. Plus, the Madison River (half hour) and Yellowstone Park (ninety minutes) are close by.

The guesthouse features a great room with a 12-foot ceiling, sofa, cozy chairs, dining table, plasma TV, and a wood-burning stove.

An oversized bunkroom includes six custom double bunk beds, desk, and a walk-in closet.

Kitchen features a gas stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, new cookware, table settings, and barware. And there's an extra-large bathroom with two sinks, soaking tub, and shower.

Of course, there's heating and A/C, a washer and dryer, quality linens, towels, down pillows, soap, and shampoo.

Step outside to a covered porch, gas grill, fire pit, lawns, and a 10-acre front meadow.

Another big plus is the historic steakhouse, bar, and live music honkey tonk just down the road—you can walk, but we drive.

And, within 10 minutes of your door, there’s a gourmet market for meat, fish, beer, wine, and groceries. Baked goods, coffee, liquor stores, and multiple restaurants are also nearby. Along with two fly shops that offer local knowledge, gear, and apparel.

Yeah, this should be your home on the range to relax, fish, and make the world go away.

Mountain Time
My family of 4 stayed at the beautiful On the Fly Ranch. From the moment we drove up we knew we picked the best ranch for us to stay at. The sunset views were amazing on the sweet porch and all the little touches when we arrived were just perfect. The ranch gave our family the opportunity to have beautiful homebase while we explored all the Montana had to offer! We will return to relax and recharge!

Bunkhouse stay
The Bunkhouse was better than advertised! It was so nice and accommodating for our family of 5. We loved the bunkbeds, comfy and fun. Duane provided fishing recommendations which were helpful. The book in the cabin gave great advice on where to eat, grocery shop etc. The area was peaceful and well landscaped, very relaxing! Highly recommend this VRBO. We will be back!

Picture Perfect
The Bunkhouse was the perfect blend of beauty and comfort. Located just close enough to Bozeman and Big Sky for nights out, shopping and other activities. Back at the Ranch breathtaking views and peaceful surroundings provided the perfect backdrop for rest and relaxation. Whether we were casting a line, riding horses, rafting or hiking - we were never far from the comforts of the Bunkhouse. Our family of 5 felt right at home during our stay, the Bunkhouse is thoughtfully stocked and tastefully decorated. We truly loved our time creating memories in Gallatin Gateway, and as a guest of On The Fly Ranch. The hosts were spectacular.

Relaxing time away from the Hustle and Bustle...
Our family of 6 (2 parents and 4 teen children) enjoyed our stay at the Bunkhouse. We loved its location and the peace it provided. Each day we prepared breakfast in the cabin before heading out on our daily adventures. The Bunkhouse was close enough to Bozeman and Big Sky to visit each for activities/dinners. We spent 1 day at Yellowstone to see the sights and it was an easy drive. We also learned to fly fish, hiked to Lava Lake, and rafted the Gallatin River. Our family especially enjoyed the 3 dogs that came to visit every day!! Great location (close to places) but secluded to enjoy the beauty of Montana.

Gallatin Getaway for the family!
The bunkhouse was perfectly placed in the most gorgeous surroundings of lush green grass, snowy mountain peak in the distance and majestic horses on the property! The bunkhouse is beautifully outfitted and the front porch is a favorite spot to take it all in. Duane and Michele were gracious and helpful hosts. Our family of 6 couldn’t have asked for a better home away from home! Many Thanks, The Crane family

Big Sky skiing based from the Bunkhouse
Overall impression is highly positive. This is genuinely a bunkhouse, with 6 double beds in one large bedroom. This is NOT for every group. There is one bathroom. There is seating at the dining room/kitchen table for 6. We had some last minute cancelations, so our group was only composed of two. Other than the excess beds, the place was perfectly designed and equipped for us. The location, an open ranch, was quiet, pretty and loaded with wildlife. The host is friendly and always responded to messages quickly.

Fantastic place! Awesome time!
I stayed here with my 21 year old son for a week fly fishing adventure. Fantastic. Gallatin canyon is only 10-15 minutes south. Public access to the river is less than a mile from the house. Only 10 minutes to the fly shop. Bozeman within 15-20. And yet we felt like we were miles away. The views are spectacular. Property is like new. Well maintained and convenient. Great trip! We’ll be back!

Great relaxing getaway!
Amazing, just Amazing! The house is in a fantastic location on a little ranch in the valley and every direction you look, it’s a fantastic view! Inside the house is even more amazing. Everything is immaculate. Nice, quiet property. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get away from the city. It is a very short drive to the Bozeman area, and you can be in Yellowstone within 2 hours.

Wonderful location and cabin
We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay. Sitting on the porch, enjoying a breeze and watching sunsets or playful horses was lovely. My husband caught so many fish he lost count. The cabin was comfortable and met all of our needs. Hope to visit again.

About the host

Hosted by Michele Maidens

Host profile image
In 2014 Michele and Duane “Doo” Maidens built On The Fly Ranch.
You’ll see them every day on the Ranch. When Doo isn’t fishing he’s tending to the grounds. Michele works with her two horses and makes sure guests have everything they need.
Michele states, “We love sharing our dream. Families come from all over the country to rent the guesthouse, many returning multiple times. We’ve had weddings, reunions, and long and short stays. And our German Shorthaired Pointers, Buckwheat and Billy, welcome everyone as their new best friends.”
We look forward to seeing you.

Why they chose this property

This is the perfect base camp for a family or group of anglers.
The ranch is close to the Yellowstone Park West Entrance (a 90-minute drive). You can fish or raft the Gallatin (2 minutes away), Madison (30 minutes), and Yellowstone (45 minutes) rivers. Go horseback riding. And tour Montana State University.
Explore downtown Bozeman’s shops, galleries, and restaurants. It’s also a quick trip to the towns of Big Sky, Ennis, Gardiner, Livingston, and West Yellowstone—each drive includes wide-open views, Montana wildlife, and rivers.
While we want you to explore Montana, some people don’t even leave the Ranch. On the property, you’ll encounter bald eagles, deer, ducks and geese, hawks, horses, fox, and turkeys. Venture out on a 15-minute drive to see bison, elk, and moose.
From the guesthouse you can bike, hike, run, and walk for miles. Sit and read that book you’ve been meaning to finish. Cook, sip, and relax. Or mosey on down to Stacey's Steakhouse for dinner, drinks, and live music. There’s also Wi-Fi and a big screen TV if you must stay connected. It’s that perfect.

What makes this property unique

If fly fishing is on your list, there are three public Gallatin River access points ten minutes away for wild, catch-and-release brown and rainbow trout (even the elusive grayling).
The Gallatin is one of the most productive and safest wading rivers in Montana. Close to the Ranch, you can walk up and downstream for miles and rarely see other anglers. It’s also an easy drive to the Madison and Yellowstone rivers.
You can fish on your own, or make arrangements with our house guide service, visit Trout Tales (www.trouttalesflyfishing.com) and ask for Ian. Note that guides should be booked at least three to four months in advance.
