Enjoyed our stay in this sweet, quirky little cabin! The check in/out process was super easy. The cabin is simple but well appointed and very clean! The BEST part is its location!! STEPS to Lake Michigan and Portage Lake means lots of walks and fires on the beach and paddle boarding on cooler days! Beautiful views. We loved our special week here!
Great access to lake Michigan (5 minute walk) beautiful beach which was important to me. Good for a family too. Lovely front deck and nearby public access to Portage lake. Near many north country towns and attractions for shopping and restaurants. Cottage had everything we needed.
This was our first visit but we were thrilled with the entire experience. The cabin was spacious and clean. The owners were incredibly prompt and attentive when power went out due to a accident effecting a number of homes in the area. In short if you're looking for a great place to enjoy Onekama at a great price this is your place...unless it's the week we want it.
The property owner was so kind and the location was perfect - dog friendly, too.
Very clean. The knotty pine was rustic and pretty. The first evening we had not figured out how to use the thermostat or the electric fireplace in the master bedroom so it was a little chilly, but the next morning the owners were there and winterized the cabin and showed us where the thermostat and remote control for the fireplace were, so problem solved! Bring some scented candles since it has that old cabin on the lake smell.
Our family enjoyed a relaxing and wonderful vacation in Onekema. We were minutes from walking to Lake Michigan and spent most of our time on the beach. It was heaven! Our cottage was perfect for our family including three adult children. Jane was very accommodating and quick to accommodate our needs and answer any questions. We will definitely be back!
Very comfortable 8 night stay with our two pocket beagles in this rustic cabin with many thoughtful touches and amenities. High quality, solid wood furniture and plenty of dishes for cooking, as well as a gas grill out back. A full container of coffee, 4 rolls of toilet paper, and six sets of towels were also provided (the guest info book said there were additional towels stored somewhere, but we didn't need them for just two people). The internet was fast and reliable. Don't forget to bring your own beach towels, chairs, and umbrella, as these are not provided. Yes, there is a musty smell in the cabin -- but all cottages of a certain age that get closed up in the winter have this exact same smell. It didn't bother me a bit, and you only smell it when you first enter the cabin. The hard water may also bother some, but again, all the cabins in this area have hard water. The only negative was that the bathroom felt too cramped and small for me and my husband, but that's par for the course for a summer cabin! A keyless entry door handle would also be a nice improvement. Overall, a fantastic rental -- I grew up on Portage Point, and this is the best location possible and the best value if you are traveling with dogs. I'm so grateful that the owner allows dogs, because there are few places in this area that are reasonably priced AND accept dogs.
Nice open spacious cabin. Good view of the lake. Loved the tall counters! Good water pressure. Musty smell was a downside. All of our clothes needed to be washed a couple times to get the smell out when we returned home. A dehumidifier in the basement might help with the musty dampness. If it were my place I would rip out the stained carpet in the master bedroom and just have area rugs instead of carpet, especially being a dog friendly place. The vertical blinds in the living room had a couple panels broken (one kept falling off). We had a great time despite my complaints. I just wanted to give constructive criticism which is hopefully helpful to the host.
It had a beautiful view and close proximity to the resort ad home where the wedding was. It was a perfect spot for us fo our short trip! We would love to go back.
Very nice place for our family. Very convenient and close to Portage Point Inn for the wedding we attended . Cottage offers a beautiful view of the lake.
As always our stay was amazing and everything we needed was at our fingertips. Jane is so accommodating. Jabe and her husband Steve even greeted us with a bottle of champagne for our wedding that we had while we were there. Can not wait to come back next year.
Heaven on earth. Love Portage Lake along with the entire surrounding areas of Lake Michigan, Onekama, Manistee, etc. Fishing in Manistee on the pier was great! The property itself is perfect. Everything we could ever need. Hope we can come back for years to come. The property owner is like no other. Very accommodating and easily accessible. Just can't say enough good about her and the property!
Easy check in place was very nice spacious lots of seating. Bedrooms were good the master bedroom has a gas fireplace for extra added touch. We appreciate the place and would stay again. Lake Michigan was a short walk away and Public access to Portage lake was 3 doors down. We had fun!
I would like to give this property some negative feedback so nobody else would rent it but you know what it is the Greatest VRBO we have had in 6 years. Pictures do not do it justice and a Fantastic location. Great experience!!!!!!
The family and I had a wonderful trip at this property in Onekama, MI. This is truly the perfect location and the owners are very responsive to any needs or questions you may have. The property was very clean and plenty spacious for my family of 5 and two dogs. There are two grills (gas/charcoal) at your disposal and a picnic table. We had fun grilling out everyday and going to the beach, which is literally 1 minute away. Super relaxing and a much needed trip. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice up north vacation next to Lake Michigan and beautiful Portage Lake! I would stay here again without any reservations.
This property was exactly what we were looking for and just perfect. Best location, extremely quiet and friendly people. Having 2 bodies of water to choose from was the best. Jane was so helpful with information and everything was exactly as described. The only problem was that we ran out of days to see everything in the area. Thanks so much for having us. Hope to be back next summer!!

Our family has been vacationing in Onekama for four generations. We have never seen a more perfect setting. Both lakes provide such unique offerings and to have them both within minutes is what really makes this area unique. Where else can you watch the sun rise on one lake and set on another within a half mile? What we love the most about the area is the fact that once you have experienced Onekama, you always seem to come back. Year after year and generation after generation, this is the place to make family memories.
What makes this property unique
The knotty pine interior of this cottage, along with its picture windows and large sitting room, make this a cozy family retreat. The master bedroom and bathroom have recently been repainted and all of the dishes are brand new. There is a patio space between this cottage and the dollhouse that is perfect for a small grill. The front porch offers views of Portage Lake and the historic Portage Point Inn.
