Incredible!
Everything about Casa Estrellas was wonderful. I remember looking at the pics online thinking that if it was only half as nice as the pics, then it would be great. Honestly, the pics do not do it justice. It is that amazing: the layout, the pool, the view, everything. We didn’t feel like we were in a rental, it felt like a home. Communication with the owners was easy, same with check in/out. The home is pretty remote, but there’s several others homes in the area too so it feels very safe. We lost power several times, and lost water for a couple hours once, but we took it all in stride. The main road is good, however the second road which we needed to use a few times absolutely required 4wd because of the steepness and loose gravel. Pura Vida!

Perfect location. Lovely hosts. Unforgettable stay.
Can't say enough about this property! We were a group of 7 adult women celebrating my 40th birthday. Our goal: stay off the beaten path but not shirk on luxury. Casa Estrella did not disappoint. The accommodations were well appointed w/ plenty of space for all of us to stretch out & relax during our 8 night stay. The highlight- the home's large back patio, outdoor dining area, and infinity pool overlooking the pacific ocean. Oh those sunsets! The photos don't do it justice. From the upstairs master suite balcony there were frequent sightings of bright green Parrots, Scarlet Macaws, and even a pair of Toucans- Frequently seen in the trees beside & valley below the property. No binoculars necessary. Our large party consisted of a combination of adventure junkies & poolside relaxationists & this location provided the perfect landing pad for all. The fresh cuisine at various local restaurants was delectable. And we whipped up many a feast right at home with the ample kitchen amenities (very well appointed grocery stores only a 30-40 minute drive to the north or south). Prior to our trip, the property owner Anita was incredibly responsive to all of our pre-trip questions via email. And while in country, our property managers Scott & Lisa were absolutely fantastic! They were attentive, fun, and each of their recommendations were spot on. Their attentiveness and kindness are unforgettable & we are extremely grateful for their hospitality. Scott even went out of his way to transport a few of us up the mountain when one of the vehicles we rented turned out not be a true 4x4 vehicle. THINGS to NOTE: - The mountain road to the property truly does require a 4x4. Just part of the fun of staying here! And you are rewarded with an incredible view. - Plan plenty of time to get to your destinations. The highway is 2 lanes with a max speed limit of 60-80 km per hour. Embrace the relaxed lifestyle. You're in Costa Rica. - There are bugs. Large ones. Remember, you are in a rain-fores. Again, all part of the fun! DON'T MISS: - Lunch @ Bellana Bistro. Say hi to owner Liz and her sweet pup, Janga. - Playa Arco. Only accessible during low tide. Worth it. - Scuba (or snorkle) Isla del Cano w/ Mad About Diving (Uvita). Pablo & his wife Lara are extremely involved in conservation & reef restoration efforts. - Guided tour of Corcovado w/ Sierpe Frog. Crocs & dolphins & monkeys, oh my! Also, their night hike! - Catarata Uvita & Cascada el Pavon. Waterfall nirvana.

Beautiful home with great views
Our group of seven had a wonderful stay at Casa Estrellas. The house is everything the pictures make it out to be including an interesting design and great views of the Pacific Ocean. There was plenty of room for everyone. Homeowner was very accommodating working with me on a last minute change and the property managers Scott and Lisa were also great. They met us on the main road when we arrived and guided us up to the house which I recommend if you are unfamiliar with the area.

Amazing house
This house is a great vacation home! We had 4 adults and 3 kids with plenty of room for personal space. We practically spent all our time outside by the pool and the outdoor kitchen was great! The only negative thing is that there’s no AC in the house except in the bunk bed room. Being from Florida we’re use to the AC back home and it really doesn’t cool down much in the evenings. All rooms have fans that cool it down some in the evenings so we got use to things pretty quick. The house was well stocked with towels and such and the kitchen had all we needed. Definitely would recommend this house and would love to come back and stay here. Karen and Keith were very helpful and were quick to help us with any issues we had. The road leading up to the house was adventurous but was an easy ride with a 4x4. Location was great and was a quick ride to beaches, waterfalls, zip lining and grocery stores.

Dream house
This house was like a dream for us! It was perfect for our family. There is only air conditioned in the little room, so we had to adapt our body to the 34 Celsius but past that challenge everything was amazing! You do need a 4x4 to get there ,but they where working on the road . The pool is so beautiful,it looks sometime unreal with the sunset. This house is so fully equipped, don’t bring anything from home. We even had a new BBQ ! The weather is beautiful. We saw toucans at the house! We like playa Hermosa the best. We had a wonderful tour with Sierpe tour! Thanks Anita to have shared your incredible house with us....

Stunning Setting in Paradise
This is a fabulous property, with a view that words fail to describe. The sunsets will be etched in your memory. The mountain backdrop makes its own unique contribution to the ambience. The house is very well built and nicely appointed. The only negative, and this will be a matter of personal preference, is that it is not air-conditioned. We did have some very warm days and nights in mid-December. The house does have an abundance of ceiling fans. The infinity pool is exceptionally nice. You do need 4-wheel drive to get there, but you quickly get used to the road. It is definitely worth the drive! I cannot say enough good things about the owner, Anita, and her property managers, Sonya and Jan. They were all prompt in their communication and helpful in their suggestions. A couple of our discoveries that you may enjoy: 1. Sierpe Frog has a magnificent day tour of the mangroves and Corcovado National Park. This was our most memorable day in Costa Rica. Highly recommended. We saw four species of monkeys and the most amazing display of birds and other wildlife. 2. The Sunset Sail Tour out of Quepos was another highlight. The snorkeling was not that great, but everything else was. Very nice staff and superb mahi-mahi on board. 3. The El Sanctuaria zip line tour, also near Quepos, was 6 stars out of 5. There are 10 ziplines, and the longest is 0.8 miles long. Great staff. You feel like Tarzan and Jane flying through the canopy. 4. Citrus restaurant in Ojochal was our favorite. Outstanding cuisine, attentive service (ask for Marvin) and a nice quiet ambience. One warning: Do NOT leave any bags in your car when off the beaten path. One of our rental car windows was smashed one day while visiting a waterfall. This is a magnificent place. Enjoy it and savor it while you're there. This kind of setting is extremely rare in our experience.

Beautiful house, big enough to accommodate my wife, kids and myself.
Our first impression about the house was WOW what a beautiful place. We arrive in the evening very tired after 6 hours driving from SJO airport, we meet the property manager and gave us a quick tour which was good, after they left we started to unpacked to relax and to settled down. Our first night was really warm and we decided to turn the A/C on to get some cool air, come to find out that there was only one A/C unit in the kids room which was a bumped in it, no other room in the whole house had A/C units but that one, what didn't make any sense to us, so we stayed there for 21 days trying to sleep. It was difficult to get cool air through the night. Our second concern was satellite TV, we all were bored with just watching Netflix it got old, we couldn't stream movies because the Internet was very slow, 2mb down and 1.5mb up. Overall the swimming pool was great, kitchen appliances were very nice, outside patio was comfortable. The grill need to be fix or replaced. One very important detail, the place needs to have a home phone in case of emergency, the power goes out and when that happens there no Wifi to even use our cellphones being out if towners we depend on Wifi calling.

Amazing home with spectacular view
We are a family of four travelling with a friend. We travel to Costa Rica twice a year and rent homes on VBRO. This particular home was the most well appointed home we have ever stayed at. The view is amazing and the setting is breathtaking. When one thinks of infinity pools with views, it's hard to imagine a better one. The home was immaculate and equipped with every a family or group needs while travelling. The area is slightly south of Ojochal away from the tourist areas. You are conveniently located near Uvita and a number of beautiful beaches such as Playa Pinuela or Ventanas. The climate in the mountains provides you with cooler mornings and evenings. A welcomed change after days in the sun. If you like bird watching, this is the house. Mornings were party to Green Parrots, Toucans, parakeets and a pair of Scarlet Macaws. Most importantly the home is close to the Sierpe River where you will find access to wildlife. We took a tour of the river one day followed by a day to Corcovado National Park. I highly recommend SierpeFrog for tours in the park. We've hiked both ends of the park but taking the river to the park was amazing. We were honored to stay at this house and would love to stay again. This particular area is our favorite and this home was too. The owner has a book with information in the home that provides everything you will need to know to have an amazing stay. We will be back as we want to stay overnight in the Sirena ranger station in Corcovado. The river is the way to go, it beats a brutal hike into the park. Pura Vida!

Fantastic home in the mountains for a heavenly vacation.
Stayed at the house 2/27/18 - 3/07/18. The weather was beautiful. Cool breezes from the ocean every day and woke to the sounds of birds talking to each other every morning. We arrived late on our first day and Sonya purchased groceries for us for dinner and breakfast, so very grateful. It is a must to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get up the mountain to the house which takes about 15 minutes. Exquisite home with everything you need. Peaceful and relaxing with all the amenities for a wonderful vacation.

Beautiful home with stunning views!
We had a fabulous time at Casa Estrellas! The house, patio and pool are just gorgeous. The appliances provided are all high end, the king sized beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms are enormous. There is great water pressure and lots of hot water, and the internet is great. There were four of us staying for the week and the villa is so spacious that we never felt crowded. As mentioned in the listing, the property is secluded, which is great. Although it is properly indicated in all information about the home, it should be mentioned that the road leading from the highway to the property is not for the faint of heart. We are used to the roads in this area of Costa Rica, as well as in the Santa Teresa area (where the roads are notorious) so we were expecting a bumpy ride up to the house. However, this road is also extremely steep, with many curves and it takes a good 15 minutes to travel the 3.5 km up or down it (and then another 10 minutes to get to Ojochal). With our 4wd car loaded with luggage, four people and groceries, it was a quite a chore to get to the property on the first day with the "pedal to the metal"! Jan, the property manager, told us that If you turn off the AC in the car, you get about 30% more power, and that really helped. You will want to plan your excursions to avoid unnecessary trips up and down the road. Nevertheless, we highly recommend this beautiful home and we hope to return in the near future!

Paradise! Even more beautiful than the photos!
We had a wonderful week at this beautiful home. Having rented other homes in this region we can easily say that this is at the top of the list. The home has every amenity you require for a relaxing and worry free stay. The view is incredible. The pool is beautiful and large for homes in the region. Jan and Sonya, the property managers, are quick to respond to any request and are wonderful hosts. We visited with our two young children (1.5 and 4 years old) and the set up of the home was ideal for us. We look forward to our next stay.

Best time I have ever had away from home.
The casa is beautiful, with a view just this side of heaven.Up to date appliances that all work as expected, quality cookware, linens and property mangers.Anita the owner was very helpful, answering emails promptly with clear answers. The casa is very roomy, my 14 year old daughter was able to hide away when not in the pool, lol. This the start of the rainy season but rain holds off till late afternoon. There were many types of birds on the property, and I saw 2 parrots in the tree. No bugs even though I packed for them, you will need 4 wheel drive for the access road, I had a front wheel drive car and never got stuck but I am a crazy driver. Even though the home is way to large for my daughter and I, I will rent here again it is just that great of a place.

This is a great home with a wonderful view. A fantastic value in my opinion. The road up to the house is steep and bumpy but anywhere you go in Costa Rica will be like that if you want a good view. Awesome house, awesome view, loved every moment of our stay!
This house is so much better than pictures can depict. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. We were a group of four adults and two children and there was still plenty of room left for more. Kitchen was well equipped for all of our cooking needs. The managers were very helpful and answered all of our questions in a timely manner. If we ever make it back to Costa Rica this will be the place we stay again. The views are amazing, the area is peaceful, and the pool is amazing!

Sigh!
Please don't take any of my commentary in the wrong way! We absolutely loved the rental, Costa Rica, and the people of Costa Rica. Exceeded expectations! Better than the website! I don't know where to begin ... "where does one vacation from this place?". My concerns prior to travelling (please don't take the wrong way, I am the nervous nelly!) Safety - We were in the country for 9 days. I had only two moments that I had an iffy (not crazy feeling). One was at a gas station (main in Uvita), the other was at a local beach (Playa Ventanas) on a Sunday. Most everyone speaks English! We shopped almost every other day at the BM's. Access to house - mountainous roads, but no problem if you have 4x4. Water - drank it constantly. Back 4 days now, and no issues. Things I didn't know about the house: Bathroom outside on the patio. Appliances kick butt! 5 wet beach towels dry in 1/2 hour. Private I don't know if this review will give you the opportunity to ask questions to me, but if it does, I am more than open to answer any. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for sharing your house. Thank you Sonja and Jan for making it easy and not being in our faces. Future rentals ... ENJOY!

Most amazing wonderful stay!
Our stay here was truly relaxing and wonderful!!! Working with Sonja was so great!! Anita has great managers you can talk to with questions. The place is furnished and has a lovely kitchen with island. It is so open and homey. There could be a few more comfy chairs for indoors rainy days. We had one day if torrential rain. It was fun to experience that too. The drive up the mountain road is rough course rocks which are necessary due to the heavy rains. Our little 4x4 handled it well. We got used to after a few days. The property and lovely privacy wall by the pool is very attractive and the surrounding plants are so suitable and beautiful. We heard toucans daily but found them hard to spot in the tree, where you will hear a symphony daily!!!

Third time and still a charm!
We have been to this amazing gem of a house three times. It never disappoints. We have been there three different times of the year and each season is just as great as the next. We tried new restaurants, The Bamboo Room and Porqueno...both fantastic! Also or tried and true favourites, Mamma e Papa and Jolly Rogers. The beaches were great! Make sure to stop in Quepos and bring home coffee from Cafe Milagro, yum! All our friends and family love when we bring it home. The owners are quick to respond and the price we paid is very reasonable for the large, beautiful home we stayed in.

A Wonderful Second Stay
This was our second stay at this wonderful property. The house is beautiful and very well equipped with everything that is needed for meal preparation, chairs for the beach, etc. Our favourite part of the house however is the pool and outside area. The pool is a great size and there are wonderful shaded outside areas with very comfortable seating. We spent every morning watching the birds and every evening watching the sunset and birds again. The views are outstanding and great to look at from the infinity pool. We were sad to leave and would be happy to return to this home anytime.

Pura Vida in Chontales
Casa Estrellas is a truly beautiful & we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Chontales. Our stay was 10 weeks, so we really got to know the area..First, this is the best equipped VRBO we’ve ever stayed at. Appliances & cookware, all high quality. Plenty of pots, pans, dishes. The beds are comfortable, plenty of nice towels, great hot water (note of caution, hot water is scalding hot). The outside area is lovely. In CR, you spend most of your time outside. The decking around the pool is a great place to spend the days reading, playing games, taking a dip in the pool, etc. And what a beautiful pool! Unfortunately, we had some problems with the pool. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon. The property mgr responded quickly when we notified of a problem & worked on it several times, but never quite got it resolved. Nonetheless, we were generally able to use it when we wanted, & we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon dips. The landscape is beautiful-laying out on the chairs at night to watch the stars is outstanding. Every morning we watched the birds in nearby trees. Wonderful sightings of Tucans, Kiskadees, Vultures, Anis, & Amazon Parrots. Bugs-Not bad, really. I seem to attract mosquitos & am allergic, so I did use repellant on my legs in the evenings & for walks on the beach. I’m not saying I didn’t get bites, I definitely did. Taking precautions at dawn & dusk seemed to work. If you “need” to be connected, there is TV with Netflix & movies, etc., & the WIFI works well. A/C - you really don’t need it! This was a concern when we rented the house, but it turned out to be a needless worry. The breezes are constant & the ceiling fans work great for moving air. There were even a couple of nights when I thought we might need a light cover on the bed! The owners have put together a nice binder of information that is very helpful on your arrival. Negatives? Not many, really. Over the period of 10 weeks, we got a bit tired of the drive into & out of the property-ten minutes on a very rocky, bumpy road. Also, the frequent visits by the landscapers was a bit annoying. If I only had a week and lost a day to guys trimming, blowing & cleaning up, I would have been unhappy. Also, they spray poison on the plants so we were forced indoors with doors & windows closed to avoid the fumes. Overall, this is the best VRBO property we’ve ever stayed at. Thanks Anita & Warren for sharing your beautiful home, Thanks Sonya & Jan for your help! Pura Vida!!

Why they chose this property

From the moment we set foot in Costa Rica for the first time, we knew it was THE place for us. We chose the property because we loved the serenity and beauty of the southern pacific coast. The defining moment was standing on the ridge where our house is now located and feeling the ocean breeze while looking out at the panoramic view.

What makes this property unique

Our home was designed with all of the luxurious comforts of a high end home. It also feature the beauty of Costa Rican elements such as local hardwood ceilings and custom made cabinets and furniture throughout. The best part is that your closest neighbour is the jungle and yet you can find five star restaurants and beaches within a 20 minute drive.
