Delightful stay!

This was our second stay in two weeks so, needless to say, we found the place delightful. Quiet, secluded, gorgeous view. You couldn't ask for more! The Bald Eagles were amazing! We will be back again!

Needs some work

So we stayed here and the view was amazing. However calling it a penthouse is somewhat miss leading. Needed much in the means of maintenance. Shades on light hanging off of lampshade, paint, mildewy smell, possible mold, dirt carpets as in stained.

A little moldy and lots of maintenance needed

I loved the ocean view/sounds. Didn’t love the carpet tacking nails sticking up at the threshold of our bedroom, the moldy bathroom with leaky pipes under sink, missing light bulb in my bedroom and area outside bathroom, broken gate at the top of the stairs, poor lighting above the dining room table and no cable or internet which made it nearly impossible to access what we needed.

Great view with moldy rooms

Unfortunately the bedrooms are so moldy and damp I wasn’t able to sleep in the bedroom. $1700 to sleep on the couch for 5 nights. The first night I laid in the bed and woke up completely damp, my pillow was wet. The smell hits you as you walk in. The carpet is stained and the tack strip is exposed so you get a nice surprise poke. I do love the location and the view is great. The staff is very friendly. If you don’t mind a wet mattress and a mold smell then I recommend.

Amazing views and perfect location!

As soon as I walked into the Penthouse #2 I stopped to take a picture from the just inside the door. The view was more breathtaking than any of the pictures do it justice! Once my friend got there we took the path to the beach. This might be the only thing people should be concerned about. To get the great views, the path is a bit steep. Going down can be tough for some, and coming back up can be really tough. But I was just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and not taking any medication for it yet so it was tough, but worth every bit of pain! The beach is not crowded, in fact there were only a handful of other people around. And the proximity to Depoe Bay (love to go to all the shops and eat at the Sea Hag!), and to Newport (if you need groceries) makes this a great location on the Oregon Coast. I can't recommend it enough!!

Beautiful view, convenient walking path to beach, dog friendly

Spectacular view of beach from living room & deck. Access to beach was well maintained and easy to walk on. Grateful our dog was allowed to stay. Nice set of plates/bowls/glasses for use. New dishwasher worked well. Staff was friendly & responsive. Recommendations: REMOVE CARPET IN ALL ROOMS AND PUT DOWN LAMINATE FLOORING. Carpet caused musty odors. Replace blinds above sliding glass door (one strip fell off when we tried to open it - a few strips broken or missing). Replace water filter on fridge (light is on), ice maker not working. Stock kitchen w/ more basics (salt/pepper), put contact paper down on cupboard surfaces. Replace cookie sheets/pots/pans with new ones (found cookie sheet in cupboard with burnt food on it), Cobwebs in corner of bed frame - whole place needs a thorough vacuuming and wipe down.

Could be terrific

View, location, layout all a real plus for this property. Great access to beach ...but things at the place just didn't work. For example, it only has one bathroom and despite the staff knowing that the bathroom sink didn't work (we were instructed to shave and brush our teeth etc in the kitchen sink upon arrival)... they haven't fixed it. Front door is notoriously difficult to lock (thank you Vacassa for fixing it after two days) but it's a door it should work. The electrical outlets are so old and worn you can't plug in more than one thing at a time. Finally it is a dark place by design and light bulbs were burn out making it even darker. We had informed Vacassa of all of these items (and more) just after we checked in and virtually NONE were fixed by the time we checked out four days later. HOWEVER, Vacassa was very quick to offer us a late checkout ONLY if we paid more. Their customer service reps were very polite but could not get anything done (not the house's fault). So if you stay here, be warned ... nice location, dog friendly, bring your own tool box and spare parts... you'll need them. A real shame.

Location, location, location...needs a deep clean and maintenance

For our needs and desires in a vacation property, this place is in the perfect location. The layout of the condo is great with two bedrooms to separate the parents from the kids, a good kitchen/living room layout, and a great deck for meals with views and to let the dogs feel not as cooped up. The beach access is great, and in October, that part of the beach was pretty quiet and lacking crowds. There is also a nice set of grassy areas on the way to the beach that were great for doggy bathrooms. The one thing keeping us from feeling like we might have found a long-term go to for coast trips is how dirty the bathroom and carpet were leading us to question how clean anything (like the kitchen and utensils) actually are. I wish I could add pictures to this review to show the mildew in the bathtub and on the shower curtain. The door knob to the hallway door was broken off leading us to keep it jammed open with a doorstop for fear our 1 year old would lock us out with her on the other side. The mildew was such that we ended up not bathing the kids. I know keeping up with mildew at the beach is a constant battle, but a little bleach goes a long way and a cheapie shower curtain liner every now and then is inevitable. The latch to the gate on the deck at the top of the stairs also did not work which meant keeping a chair in front of the gate after our 1 year old opened it within a few minutes of seeing us going in and out while unpacking the car. The bedroom TV also went out on our second night (sound first and then picture). I would also add that the pictures of the property online must be from awhile ago as the walls have been painted, the carpet looks like it's been through hell, and some of the furniture and TVs are different. With a deep clean and some maintenance, this place would be incredible, at least for our wants.

Nice views but could use an upgrade--and deck is unsafe.

Nice and spacious but outdated interior. Fridge is newish and that's nice (though water filter needs replacing). The deck railing on the south side is dangerous and could be pushed over without much force. Definitely need to review the safety of the deck structure before putting anyone, especially kids, on the deck.

Perfect for my family

We loved this place! Lots of room to stretch out and watch the waves from the living room. The beach path is a beautiful walk. The beds were amazing. Water was also amazing. We had some issues with the lights in one bedroom. The plugs are very loose and couldn’t hold our chargers or the light plugs. One of the lights didn’t have a shade and the hallway light didn’t work. But we were happy all the same. I loved that it was right between Newport and Depoe Bay.

Two days at Otter Rock

Family of four stayed very comfortably at penthouse #2 with its beautiful views and incredible beach sounds. It is not a luxury suite, and that’s all the better for the setting. The photos don’t do the place justice, the couch have been replaced and there were a few more replacements. Recommend!

Location is great

This is a no thrills cabin, which is outdated and has baseboard heat. That said, it worked well for me and my family. The location was great!

LOVE this place (and so does the dog!)

We first stayed at the Alpine Chalets when our Dobie was six months old . . . she’s in her tenth year now, and Penthouse Suite 2 is still our go-to vacation spot on the Oregon coast. It has everything we need, along with access to one of the best beaches ever. Not fancy, but comfortable, well-loved and cared for. Thank you for nearly a decade of helping us make great memories with our fur kid. Can’t wait for our next visit! 💖

Can I give zero stars!?

-Walking up the stairs was a hazard because they were so slippery and steep. -the inside of the property was musty and damp. Which they are aware of because there is multiple air purifiers in the space. -the room the children were sleeping in leaked and kept waking them up. -I felt cleaner if I didn’t shower. The shower curtains were gross and dirty. -I felt sick walking around inside because of the smell and I’m pretty sure the whole building is falling off the cliff anyway because there is a major slant in the rooms. All in all this property does not even deserve 1 star.

Great time

The unit was renovated and does not look like the pictures anymore - it has a brand new laminate floor, a new couch... It was a really good surprise! The view is great, the access to the beach through a little path in the woods is really nice, you can sit on a bench and watch the sunset from there. It's also a short 10 min walk to Devil's Punch Bowl, where you can find a surfing shop, a coffee shop, Mo's seafood restaurant and a winery. We basically spent our time on the big terrace, watching the waves and the birds. Would recommend!

Not the best communication or response

House was not clean when we got there. Had to wait another 3 hours before we could even get in. WIFI did not work and I called about it with no response. Stairs to the beach completely unsafe and almost fell.
