About this property

River front, million dollar Mountain View Estate

Wildcat Estate is 50 private acres located on the edge of the Pocono Mountains and the Delaware River. Across the river are the NY Catskill Mountains. The Estate is ideally situated to enjoy the rustic advantages of Pennsylvania along with the cultural treats of the Catskills.

Food, museums, galleries, shops and sports are at your fingertips, or just sit back and enjoy the Estate in it natural splendor.

For the hunter-gatherer, there is a 1 acre food plot that supports a herd of 30 deer living on the 50 acre estate. Wildcat Estate is bordered by a 3500 acre protected state land and a private Estate of 2500 acres. You will see flocks of turkey, black bear and herds of young buck and doe. There are two impressive and elusive 9 pointers frequenting the property. For your gatherer side, wild berries are abundant throughout the property and state lands for your enjoyment.

Pennsylvania has no shortage of Ski Mountains; Wildcat Estate is located within an hour of three ski mountains, including Ski Big Bear. The trails at Ski Big Bear border the estate's property.

If fishing is your thing, cast a rod at the edge of the property for rainbow and brown trout, large-mouth bass, walleye and pikes. If you can’t catch a fish for dinner you just can't fish. The state lands, a walk down the road, provide excellent brook trout opportunities as well.

Kayaking and canoeing sites are accessible from the property or through any one of the many outfitters located in the area. There are two aluminum canoes on the property which are available to guests.

You can swim the Delaware or if you would prefer to hike your stress away, the property is an ideal place for it. At the foot of the property, river level, the elevation is 300’ above sea level, where the property meets the ski mountain it is at 900’ above sea level (yes we butt up against the ski mountain). This makes for a challenging hike. The property was once home to the Iroquois Indian. On the property you will find ceremonial stone structures, ruins of the home of Iroquois Chief Teedyuskung. Local legend says the sacred rock were the Iroquois Indian came out of the earth is located on the property. The natural sights include a waterfall in wildcat brook (where the estate gets its name) and an old rock quarry.

This is great horse country. If you own your own horse you can board 3 miles away. Trail rides can be arranged through a number of local equestrian ranches, including the stables at Masthope Mountain.

Farm to table, don’t bring groceries. Farmers markets with fresh grown and organic products are all a quick ride away. Most upper-end restaurants in the area use local grown ingredients. Take advantage of clean living with antibiotic and chemical free eating.

For the cyclist, Masthope Plank Rd is a beautiful state road that stretches through Game lands and private forest.

This is paradise, come stay with us for a week or a weekend and see why the local folks always have a smile on their face.

Fantastic
Great house, top master bedroom is spacious and comfortable with a screaming view and a great bathroom (with lovely bath). Exceptional property overflowing with wildlife, we caught the wild turkeys (and they are huge) admiring their reflection in the side of the car. Met the chipmunk family (momma and two babies - too cute). You can get to the river, just need a little courage to find the way. Can't vouch for the TV, we never used it. Every night was game night (with a beer or two). Most of the time was spent on the deck off the living room admiring the view, watching the wildlife (eagle, hawk, bluebirds, Pileated woodpecker, deer etc etc etc). Both David and the property manager (Joan) were great and communicated well to make sure we were comfortable. Thank you David for sharing your amazing property.

Haven for nature lovers
Due to covid, we brought a lot of what we needed for a 3 night stay. We did not want to have to go in/out too much for groceries nor to go out to restaurants or bars. The kitchen had enough pots and pans and dinnerware for our family of 4. Except for the house needing a few repairs (which I let the owner know), this place is awesome especially for nature lovers like my family. The view of the mountains and the river is jaw dropping. The sound of water flow in the brook is refreshing. We hiked a bit, followed the brook to the road. And then took the path upward to the waterfall and past that. So awesome! There were deer visiting once in a while. That was nice watching them watch us. I took a lot of pictures and videos but pictures can’t compare to actually being there and seeing with your own eyes. My two young adult kids enjoyed ski ing . Ski bear was only a few miles away. Our stay was a good mix of invigorating activities, admiring and appreciating the wonders of nature, and most important of all family bonding. We enjoyed our stay.

The vacation I have been needing!
It’s clean and that’s the way you should keep it. Animals are everywhere ( turkey, deer, bear, coyotes, foxes) treat them with respect and they will come back. Fishing is the biggest plus. It’s a hike down the driveway and back up and a mini hike game trail I found down to the river. Salmon, bass, trout, chubs, stripers, and last but not least catfish if you fish at night. I found wearing waders with boots is a good idea. Allows you to hit those deep spots where the fish hide in. Green worms from Walmart work the best for trout and bass. I bottom fished and found a few snags but with the waders it should make it easy to get out, if not bring extra tackle to keep your experience the best. Fire pit was awesome with wood on the property, or you can buy wood at the local gas stations or drive around and find bundles of wood being sold for 5$. Uber eats do not deliver here lol so learn how to cook healthy meals so your able to wake up fresh and ready to enjoy this beautiful property. Behind the house there is a trail to the right of the swing set going up to the waterfalls. I found frogs, salamanders , and snakes. The property is sacred, I can’t stress this enough please don’t mess it up for everyone. This property gave me the opportunity to love my other half and open up more about myself. I’m a combat veteran who suffers from ptsd and tbi. To get away from the media, the crazy stresses of everyday life, the peace , the happiness of being able to relax for once I can’t even put into words. There are spiders around the property but they will not bother you if you leave them alone to do there jobs. Night you can see how they build huge webs by the lights to catch there midnight snacks. Also when driving on the road to the house be mindful of the speed, there are deer and people on these roads every now and then. Just be vigilant of your surrounding. Other then that this was perfect and I will be coming back again and again and spreading the word that this property is key if your into fishing and hunting. Plan the trip ahead of time because it is a 30 min ride to Walmart or to the closest market. The bars are around but your better off drinking on the deck listening to the water and birds. Thank you David for the opportunity and your welcoming home. I truly am happy and miss this property already.

Relaxing getaway
The owner's home was spotless and tastefully decorated. The home is very private and has a great view from the top porch. We enjoyed sitting on the porch in the morning and loved the fire pit in the evening. During our second day it rained non-stop and had water coming through 2 of the windows, thankfully there were plenty of towels. The wi-fi for our phones and laptops worked, but we were unable to use the TV as it was not connected to wi-fi. David responded to my text, but we were unable to fix the issue. This did not impact our trip as we did not come to watch TV. My biggest suggestion for David is to improve the cookware. There are very few places to eat without driving at least 5 miles and I cooked almost every meal. The kitchen had plenty of plates, cups and silverware but only one skillet that was useable. Also, there was no toaster that was listed in equipment. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the house is very comfortable. Again, I would make sure there is a FULL set of cookware.

Beautiful location, frustrating experience
Overall, the location was great, and the house meet most of our needs, but the experience was frustrating. There was no real communication from the owner of the property. I sent a message to him a few days before we were suppose to check in to see what the process was. I was told someone would meet us at the property at 4pm with keys to let us in. We arrived there about 30 mins early and waited. By 4:30 when no one had shown up I called the owner and left him a voicemail. Cell phone reception is spotty at best so trying to place calls was a challenge. That's to be expected in the mountains. We managed to get into the house through an unlocked door, and we eventually got a call back. The driveway leading up to the property is unpaved gravel, and was very difficult to get up because of all the erosion and having to drive uphill. We came with a 4WD SUV, the other group that stayed with us drove a Prius and it barely made it up and scraped the bottom of the car as it did. One of the main reasons we picked this property was its location to the river and the fishing. The posting of the property boasts about the great fishing and access to the river along with canoes. There was no information provided by the owner explaining how to get to the waterfront and there was no markings or trails that lead to the water. We managed to trek down the road through the wooded area and make our own path down to the river and more than likely on someone else's property. The experience was frustrating to say the least. It would have been nice to be provided the information to property access the riverfront. The house itself was clean. The listing also mentions not to bring groceries because of the farmer's markets in the area. But again, there was no information about farmers markets provided to us. You should definitely bring groceries with you because the closest grocery store is 30 minutes away. If you plan on doing any cooking, make sure you bring everything you need with you. The kitchen is not well equipped. Other than a small grill on the stove top, and a small pot, there wasn't anything else to cook on. Bring your own knives, frying pans, spices and trash can. You have to take your trash with you, when you leave, but it would have been nice to at least be provided a trash can in the kitchen to place a trash bag into. There is a trash compactor that we found about 10 mins away, again, would have been nice to be told about it.

Rustic, nature retreat
Family of three (couple and adult daughter) enjoyed 4 day get away in this rustic, COVID-friendly house (good for social distancing). House is located on upper portion of 50 acre plot, which straddles roadway and railroad track, leading down to beautiful, wild and private river waterfront. Its a great hike down for nimble explorers (took us about 20 minutes to hike down); less suitable for young children, or anyone less steady on their feet. We had trouble with very sensitive lock on lower level sliding door - this was the only way to lock the property from outside. The manager was responsive - he sent someone to fix lock after we reported problem. However, lock only worked once after it was fixed and we couldn't get it to lock again. We chose not to have it fixed, and just kept our valuables with us. We enjoyed sitting on front porch/deck with morning coffee or evening drinks to watch birds, wild turkey and deer. Unfortunately two screens are missing from screen porch. No river view in full summer foliage, except sliver of river from master bedroom window. Air conditioning was good; wifi was ok. House, furniture, appliances, bathrooms and kitchen are dated. Kitchen was very basic, with very limited supplies - cabinets contained several almost empty vegetable oil bottles and coffee filters, but no salt or pepper. Non-stick pots and pans were quite pitted, and cutlery, dishes and cooking supplies are basic. Sheets, pillows and towels are serviceable - mattresses not particularly comfortable (we tried all three mattresses, before settling on least uncomfortable). Based on our 15 plus years of such rentals, we would expect either better quality or newer furnishings, linens, appliances and kitchen contents. We would not rent this property again.

Weekend Escape from Covid
We were looking for a quick weekend escape for a few days to just relax and chill. We found this wonderful property and enjoyed the peace and quiet. mornings and afternoons were spent on the deck looking out at the hawks and deer. We never even turned on the tv. We spent one afternoon boating on nearby Lake Wallenwaupack. We enjoyed a nice dinner at Rayvn & Robyn in Hawley, fabulous. The best was just hanging out together away from crowds bbq'ing with family and enjoying nature. I recommend a stay if you love peace & quiet and nature. The house was clean, bedding was comfortable and all linens were provided. Only drawbacks were could have used a few more towels and there were a lot of stairs, but most of the time was spent on the one floor so I wouldn't let that stop you from enjoying this wonderful mountain retreat.

Family Getaway to Unwind
Our family enjoys camping each summer, but with all the added stresses of 2020 thus far, camping wasn't in the cards either. We wanted all the benefits of the great outdoors, without the work of pitching tents and building fires. Wildcat Estate provided that balance. Our girls were excited to see deer, wild turkeys, chipmunks and hawks all from the balcony and front yard of the property. The sound of the waterfall and the stream running right beside the property is relaxing and a trail from the backyards provides really easy access for viewing. Take a 10 minute hike down to the river, and we were able to swim, see bald eagles and even catch some trout for dinner. We had a fantastic, relaxing week here and would definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys the above mentioned highlights. On the down side, we found the treehouse and slide not fit for use by our children. It was not cleaned in a while and also overrun with spiders, cobwebs, and squirrel debris. The children were disappointed that they couldn't use it. Also, I appreciated having an outdoor weber grill to use, but it was a little tricky without grilling utensils being available for use. The pros FAR outweigh the cons, and I would still recommend this property in a heartbeat. David, thank you for your responsiveness and tips on accessing the river through the week.

Short vacation
Nice house. Very private up on the side of a small mountain. Access via a private rutted dirt road. At night can fall asleep while listening to the stream running nearby in the woods. Our favorite part was taking meals on the front balcony while enjoying the view and bird watching. Very peaceful and relaxing.

Fun family stay in mountains
We had a great visit to the Wildcat estate overlooking the Delaware River. A nice snowfall blanketed the woods in white. Went for hikes up the mostly frozen waterfall, skied at Big Bear - great hill for kids to start skiing. And enjoyed the big fireplace and cozy winter days with kids. Driveway is a bit rugged, but we got up it no problem in SUVs, even in snow. Hope to visit again soon. David was a very helpful host, responding quickly to messages and requests.

Peaceful Escape
We had a wonderful weekend getaway for my husband's Birthday! The house was immaculate and the views are exceptional! If you love nature and are trying to get away from the everyday hustle and noise, this place is perfecto!!! My family and I enjoyed taking walks and hiking right within steps of the property. We were captivated by all the different types of birds, wildlife and the creek nearby. We had some minor trouble with the WiFi and reachout to David who quickly responded and helped us through it. It was a blessing to have the kids off their phones and social media and celebrate family!

One great weekend
We arrived early to meet the cleaning crew and they were happy to let us in. The place is breathtaking, the pictures do not do it justice. the house has a great open space living area for enjoying friends and it was in impeccable condition. The first afternoon was spent hanging out on the Front deck drinking wine looking out over mountains and River, in the evening we barbecued and had a fire in the fire pit. The next day some friends of mine decided to come up and join us, we informed David and he had his staff run over some extra sheets and towels. We grabbed some lounge chairs and spent the day down at the River. There is a nice Meadow for a picnic lunch, and we caught some trout for dinner. The following morning, we took a quick hike up to the waterfall where the view out over the river is even more impressive. This is an experience not to be missed.

Beautiful cabin!
My family and I had a wonderful stay for New Years weekend. My only complaints are that there is no firewood provided. We chose this place because of its beautiful fireplace, we would have brought wood from home if we knew. Luckily it wasn’t too long if a drive to go buy some. We have rented other cabins where it is stocked with wood. Also if you are going to be preparing a big meal, be aware that the kitchen isn’t fully stocked with what you may need. Otherwise we had a wonderful, comfortable time and the property is beautiful.

Beautiful property, lovely house and a spectacular view!
We spent a week in this lovely home and could not have been happier. Very serene and secluded with all the comforts of home. Nothing beats a cup of coffee in the morning (or a glass of wine in the evening) on that deck! The view is magnificent! David was a wonderful host - very responsive and provided lots of recommendations on where to go, what do/see and where to eat. We look forward to coming back again soon!

Incredible view, complete privacy, very comfortable, if you are looking for solitude - great place
The drive up the hill was a little scary at first but the place was great. Stream with waterfalls runs next to it. River at bottom of hill not so easily accessible but my kids did go swimming there. My main goal was a few days for comfortable solitude to unwind and do some writing. This was perfect. Only surprise was the trash situation- we had to take it out ourselves and find a place to unload it but we managed. I am forever greatful for David letting us stay there at the last minute as our other reservation turned out to be a disaster! (Trashed home with no A/C in living area) We stayed in hotel that night and requested to book David’s place. I explained our predicament in the request! First got notice it was not available then said suddenly got note that it was ours to rent! Found out from the cleaning lady later he’d given up part of his own vacation there to help us! Thank you David for your kindness! It really is a great place and I’d go back again in an instant! If you want a quiet, private, comfortable place with amazing wildlife this is it. If you birdwatch ( like me ) you start with the hummingbirds on the porch and progress to the hawks and eagles! If that’s your idea of a vacation, this is the place!

This is a great place. The house had everything I needed. It was sparkling clean on my arivial and the host was readily available with suggestions for our stay. The evenings on the front deck with a glass of wine was right out of a dream. We all enjoyed the river and picnic alongside the river for lunch. My sons caught trout that were on the BBQ that evening. The back deck is great for dinning. Our friends took a nature walk through the property, enjoyed the waterfall and found some ruines. We had a few meals out and did a bit of sight seeing, David suggested the Fort. was a hit with my kids I will make this a regular stop each summer.

Photos Don’t Do This Home Justice
Our plans for a long weekend for our family of four fell through and we had to scramble to find a place to stay. We booked this house the day before we were due to arrive and the owner was so gracious, making sure everything was ready in time for our arrival. Let’s be clear... this owner is incredible all around! He always responded very quickly and was happy to help, I greatly enjoyed our correspondence. Next up, the house. My husband is an architect and I am an interior designer so we are pretty picky. It is tough to capture this home in photos so it doesn’t necessarily show as well as some of the others online but it is lovely in person! There is a lot of room for seating, a piano in the double height family room, artwork on all of the walls and the views of the river are just tremendous. The lower level den with large selection of movies and games was so nice to have with our teens. Cell and internet service was also surprisingly good, given the location. Update from previous reviews listed on the site: there is now a microwave and there is no problem finding the house on GPS. We had no issue finding restaurants in the area either. There is a small assortment of local establishments but we weren’t bothered by driving 20 minutes either - you are in the mountains after all. The whole family enjoyed The Summit Restaurant at Big Bear. Especially of note was the Launderette Restaurant in Narrowsburg for small tapas and brick oven pizza. There is a good grocery store in Narrowsburg as well, so it is a good day trip to take on your first day. Overall, a great choice for a quiet getaway in a cozy location. My entire family enjoyed it thoroughly.

Great Gtaway and Fabulous View
Comfortable and beautiful house. Open and airy rooms with beautiful view of the river. Enjoyed morning coffee on the deck with it's peaceful and exceptional view of the Delaware river. The sound of the waterfall was so relaxing and prompted us to visit later in the day. So happy we did, it's beautiful. The house is well equipped for comfort. Our day at the river was lovely and peaceful and is a private part of the property. There are many restaurants in area we enjoyed when we did not feel like cooking. We are planning to come again with friends and explore more of the area to enjoy the events PA has planned.

Great Getaway with a Spectacular View
Our group of 7 adults stayed in July 2014 for a long weekend. We were able to stay comfortably during that time. There were enough beds and bathrooms to accommodate us. The living room space was nice and open, and the second floor porch was a highlight; it offered beautiful views of the river and surrounding land. We all enjoyed our morning coffee there, taking in the peaceful scene. The owner, David, was very responsive to any questions we had about the property or the surrounding land. He gave us directions to reach the river and suggestions for places to go out in neighboring towns. While the river is accessible from the house, the route to the river is a bit of a hike through some wooded areas and across train tracks. Be sure to ask David for explicit directions for how to access the river, as it may not be readily apparent from the road your first time. The driveway up to the house is a little windy and steep. Just be aware if you happen to drive a small car you might face some difficulty on the way up. It is also not available on Google maps; be sure to clarify the exact directions before you head out. We found the property by locating a nearby summer camp called Camp Chayolei Hamelech and making that our landmark during our drive. The house was well equipped with lots of movies, games, and an entertainment center (VHS/DVD) that worked well. The kitchen is outfitted with new appliances and the basics, but overall as a large group we would have liked more utensils, flatware and pots/pans. We feel this is important because if you plan to go here, be aware that there aren't many local places to eat out so cooking is the best option. The dining room is excellent, a nice open space with a long table to enjoy an extended meal with friends. There is also washer and dryer in the ground level, which is a plus. The land surrounding the house is beautiful and hike-able. We hiked up behind the house to look for the waterfall that we were told was on the property (and I think is in the pictures posted here) but it was dried out. This may be a seasonal issue. Overall we enjoyed our weekend stay very much, and David was a great host. There was also someone on site to meet us when we arrived, and to give us a tour of the house and the immediate surroundings. The people in the area were also very nice and helpful when we asked for directions. Would recommend for nature lovers and those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle for a few days.

View is amazing, great for wildlife lovers.
We stayed at this rental for 6 days in August 2014, our party was 4 adults and 4 kids. Pros: 1. Amazing mountain view, peaceful, filled with wildlife and good river view. 2. Trampoline for the kids, also plenty of room for running around. Excellent movie collection and toys and books for kids. 3. Responsive owner- he replied in reasonable fashion and even drove 2 hours to solve a problem at the house for us. Gave recommendations for local sights and restaurants. 4. Access to Delaware river. 5. Air conditioning worked well. Cons: 1. River access was not easy to reach and we were unable to directly able to use canoes from the river access. 2. Not truly 4 bedrooms. House seems better suited for 6 rather than 8. Really only three enclosed bedrooms and a playroom has a sleeper sofa, but playroom is a passthrough rather than enclosed. 3. Kitchen is basic, place setting only for 8, no extra dishes. NO MICROWAVE, plan meals accordingly. 4. Trash- Ask the owner for the pass/card for access to Masthope Community for free use of the compacter there (as well as other services at the community). The compactor is ~10min drive and you need to get there when it's open (a few hours, a few days per week). 6. Canoes are available but the paddles were not, we asked and the owner retrieved them for us when he came by for something else. 7. Address is impossible to find on Google Maps and GPS. Be sure to use Bing or get "GPS" searchable address from owner. Our expectations were different based on the description of the house. We feel minor improvements could make the house a more comfortable place to stay, but overall we had a good stay at the home.
