About this property

Tasteful Riverfront Mid-Century Modern Bungalow — 4 season rental

Welcome to our unique mid-century home on the beautiful Susquehanna River in Wyoming County. This stylish retreat offers four seasons of enjoyment, situated on 2.25 acres with over 100' of riverfront access. Unlike your typical Pocono or Endless Mountain cabin, this modern home caters to those with more contemporary tastes. No air conditioning and no cell service within the house but random cell service within 3 blocks of property making it a relaxing digital detox (wifi and landline phone provided).

As you step inside, you'll immediately notice the distinguishing features that set this home apart. The flat roof, broad eaves, and stucco exterior make a statement among its neighbors. The open-plan living and dining area boasts expansive windows, providing breathtaking views of the lawn and the river beyond. The professionally decorated space combines furniture from the construction period (1951) to the mid-70s, along with modern pieces that harmonize with the clean lines of the house. A handcrafted cherry mantle serves as the focal point of the main seating area, while the teak dining table comfortably accommodates 6-8 guests.

The cozy kitchen, located off the entrance and living room, features newer appliances while retaining the charm of the original birch cabinets and linoleum counters. There's also a breakfast table that seats two.

The home offers two generous bedrooms off the foyer, each with a queen-size bed. These sleeping quarters showcase a mix of period and new furniture that complements the clean lines of the rooms. The period tile bath with a marble floor features a unique glass block wall in the tub/shower, an innovative design for a 1950s rural house.

The lower level provides a family room with additional sleeping space on a full futon. This space exudes an industrial modern cave vibe with its painted concrete floor, exposed block, and floor joists. The lower level also includes a game table, comfortable seating for relaxation or quiet work, a workout bench with Olympic plates, and a washer and dryer in the unfinished portion of the basement.

At the back of the house, you'll find a covered bluestone terrace with a table for six and a gas grill. While the main attraction is the use and view of the river, the large, well-tended yard is perfect for games and sports.

From spring to fall, the Susquehanna River offers a range of activities, including swimming in the warm water, kayaking, and canoeing. The house provides two kayaks, a 15' canoe, and life jackets for your use, but please note that river activities are at your own risk and Pennsylvania requires the use of life jackets in all watercraft. Fishing enthusiasts will also enjoy the abundant opportunities (a PA fishing license is required, and no fishing equipment is provided). There's a boat launch a few blocks away for those with personal watercraft, and official boat launches can be found at 3-4 mile intervals along the river. For additional boat rental options, you can check out https://www.discovernepa.com/thing-to-do/susquehanna-kayak-and-canoe-rentals/. The valley of the Endless Mountains offers a spectacular display of fall foliage in late September and October, adding to the natural beauty of the surroundings.

The fun doesn't end when the weather turns cooler—our cozy and warm house is conveniently located approximately 25 minutes from the recently renovated Montage Mountain Ski Resort, and a little farther north, you'll find Elk Mountain, both renowned for offering the best skiing in Pennsylvania!

We invite you to experience this exceptional mid-century home on the Susquehanna River, where contemporary design meets natural beauty. Book your stay with us today and create lasting memories.

New friend group annual getaway!
Some of my old design friends from college and I wanted to have a getaway over labor day weekend and found this adorable mid-century inspired home somewhat on the way to Philly. We needed a place to stay for a night because we had been driving cross-country. Being able to walk down to the river in the morning and catch up with my friends drinking coffee is something I won't forget. I had to finish up some remote work and was able to have my own quiet space in the basement and use the wifi. This house has been loved and it felt like home, even just being there for a day/night. Thank you so much, we are making this place a pit stop each year!! And thank you to the host for answering all the questions we had about the space.

Mom's birthday adventure
home was within a few miles of our family that we were visiting. We were there for mom's 100th birthday to see her family we have not seen in at least 3 years. Was very nice location where mom could see the wildlike and the river. We would love to stay there again.

This is a lovely home and a beautiful location. My family and I enjoyed our time together here.
The house is beautiful and clean. The location is lovely in the fall and spring! My family, which included young and old, enjoyed kayaking on the river, hiking some nearby trails, going for long walks around the neighborhood, cooking meals together, just relaxing on the back patio, and watching movies together. The kids loved playing on the nearby playground, running around the big backyard, and walking down by the river. The house had everything we needed for our stay. All of the neighbors are super friendly.

Comfortable Stay, but overpriced
It was a comfortable stay with a nice yard and lots of area to walk. There is a restaurant at the end of the road that was surprisingly good. There is zero cell phone reception so be aware of that. I didn't have the lockbox code pulled up on my phone when I got there and had to drive 20 minutes to find reception. The notes are also very out of date. I think they had moved the lockbox and gotten a new oven since they wrote the notes which was kind of confusing. They also didn't mention the wifi password in the notes-- it's on the back of the router. Besides those few hiccups, we enjoyed our stay. What really got me what the cleaning fee, it was clear it had not been cleaned before our stay. I definitely left it cleaner than I found it.

Great, as advertised
Good location and nicely decorated. Not a super secluded spot (if that's what you wanted), but great views and proximity to the river. We also enjoyed the large lawn and patio for some relaxed lounging. Amenities met our needs/expectations and sparked some memories.

Disgustingly Dirty Death Trap
We received instructions on how to enter the home 3 days before our arrival, but only after making 2 requests and we had already begun our trip from California. Instructions say lock box is on right railing. It is not. There were no instructions on how to open the lock box. Owner explicitly states that "there is usually no need to lock the back door. Apparently, crime has never been an issue in Falls...ever!" This is not sage advice...ever. Owner charged a cleaning fee, but it was obvious house was NOT CLEANED prior to our arrival. Further, owner states that we are to "pick up around house and leave it the way you found it. Wipe the tub out and toilet, etc. There is a vacuum in the hall closet for the living room and kitchen carpets." So, we left it as we found it, filthy. There was hair in bath tub, grime throughout (especially near TV/Library, closets, kitchen and basement), and the refrigerator was filled with old, outdated food that had been there at least a couple months. We did not feel comfortable using fridge. We had to wash all dishes prior to use. Stove requires lighting a pilot light (if people still do that anymore). Smoke Detector in foyer needed a new battery and had to be disconnected in order to stop the beeping. Light in foyer did not work. utility closet holding greasy tools near bathroom only had a piece of plywood leaned up against it for a door. Main closet in foyer was stuffed with grimy tools and equipment. We could not figure out how to turn on TV/Cable. We called owner who told us to call Comcast (thanks!). Owner also did not disclose Wi-Fi password until we called (it's on the router). I spent 15 minutes checking all wiring connections before I got TV to work. Basement is a disaster. Door to basement was ajar upon our arrival. Behind the door was some scary stairs leading into an unlit dungeon. The bottom stair was broken. The light switch for the basement is not handy. Washer/Dryer did not work. Washer took 2 hours to run load and DID NOT SPIN DRY. Clothes came out stinking of mildew. Later, we saw that shower located above W/D leaked onto W/D substantially when someone took a shower, creating a major electrocution hazard and the source of the mildew. Screen doors are cheap and kept coming apart, and even when installed properly, left a 2" gap at bottom for mosquitoes to enter home. ON THE POSITIVE SIDE: Linens were fresh and beds comfortable. We appreciated location, bike, razrs and canoe.

needs a little work, but pretty nice
We stayed here based on it's convenient location to family. The house itself is nice, it's small and suited our needs well. The kitchen has a lot of dishes, almost too many, and many were dirty in the cabinets. Fridge, stove, nice big sink, not much counter space for working or cabinet space to store food (they're all full of dishes). There was also a lot of extra stuff, seasonings, foil, etc which was nice. Our first impression was that it was hard to see the house number and driveway. The front is pretty overgrown with big bushes and the driveway is extremely narrow. If there is more than one car, they should all face the same direction or one will have to back out and because it's so narrow, you are almost brushing up against large bushes/trees. When we went inside, we had a hard time finding the correct light switches. It should not have been as difficult as it was to turn on lights. There was only one outside light that we did manage to turn on. We had to plug in one light, turn on light switches AND the switches on a lot of lamps. I opened a door in the hallway and almost walked in looking for a light switch and realized it was a dark stairwell to the basement. Like another reviewer said, the basement door does not latch, and is quite dangerous. We took a baby gate based on that review and were glad we took it to keep our toddler from falling down, and it turned out that I almost did. The steps are also quite rickety, and the bottom one is completely broken. We needed to go down to take laundry down. We were told the cleaning person was sick and couldn't clean before we arrived, so we would need to put our own sheets on the beds and get towels out. We paid a $60 cleaning fee, and I'm sure the people that stayed right before us did, and we were both told to take our linens downstairs and vacuum the hallway etc. If I pay a cleaning charge, I shouldn't have to clean, and I expect the sheets and towels to be ready for us. We found "clean" sheets in the drawer that had paint stains, or something on them. Also, it is quite dusty, cobwebs under chairs, etc. They need a new cleaning person, if there even is one. This house was convenient for us and had a nice little playground nearby. However, there were some hidden fees we weren't expecting, and for the price it definitely needs a little work. The patio space looked really nice, but it was winter when we stayed. We would stay again if they put in a little work to make it worth the price.

Home away for the holidays
Great experience! The house was incredibly cute and everything was super clean. The beds couldn't have been more comfortable and the house was nice and toasty, even when it was freezing outside. Mary was communicative and answered any questions I had in a timely manner. I would love to stay again in the summer when we could go out on the boats and hang out in the charming backyard.

Great home and area
This mid century home is the best!!!! We were there mid July. No a.c is not a problem this time of year. Area is beautiful. I would stay again. However, I have two small children. The basement door leading down very steep steps does not close. This need to b fixed. We put a chair in front of it. Also. It was very dusty. I sneezed the whole time. Went to look under beds for missing socks etc. before we left and there was years of dust. Better house keeping s must
