Absolutely Beautiful
First, the house is located in one of the most beautiful settings one can imagine. The only comparable references I can think of is the lid of a jigsaw puzzle box or perhaps a creation by Walt Disney! It is stunning and breathtaking so if you are into walking or hiking or just being alone with your thoughts, this is the place for you. If you are into night life/activites, you will have definitely picked the wrong place!!! This home is located several miles down a forest road and about 1/2 mile to the nearest house which is in a little village of about 8-10 house (no stores/pubs,etc). It is on the edge of the Black Forest so plenty of places to walk or hike. The house itself was very nice with plenty of amenities, beds were good, kitchen had plenty of utensils, pots, wine glasses, etc. The closest grocery store is in Schopfheim which is about a 15-20 minute drive but as an American, the store was wonderful (Heibers) with huge selections, fresh breads of all kinds with accompanying small restaurant and amazing prices on everything (cheap!) including a large wine selection. We were there during the month of October and the house was nice and warm. The only drawback (for us anyway) was that the casual seating was around a large/long beautiful wood table but no couch, etc. (one upholstered chair). The other drawback was no microwave for say heating up leftovers or for morning oatmeal but we made do with the electric tea pot in the morning but a microwave would have been a little more convenient. For such a secluded spot, we did get good internet reception even though slow but when you are in this type of spot, you should not be in a big hurry about anything!! The town of Wieslet is about 10 minutes away and has a 'mill' which bakes bread and has other types of items such as cheeses, brats, nuts, etc. but not a grocery shopping place. We ate at two different small gasthaus/restaurants in Wieslet that were very good and we would reccommend both. Schopfheim has a number of places to eat and only another 5-10 minutes further. If you are into seclusion and being in, really, one of the most picturesque places in the world (we were in Norway the previous year and it is certainly dramatic but this area does not take a backseat!), this is the place for you. Our stay was two weeks and its location for visiting Switzerland and France was great, and the castle at Lorrach (about 30 minutes) was super!! Frieburg also great!

... Michel

Beautiful Location
Without going into details, we missed our flight and ended up driving from UK to Black Forest and arrived at midnight... So, if you are thinking of staying in this area and are concerned about driving (at least from Basel airport) don't be! I didn't have any issues (other than being tired...) The property is in a beautiful location with walks available from the front door. The local wildlife is lovely to behold - deer freely roaming, birds-of-prey soaring overhead. The house itself is wonderful and full of character. There is a spacious veranda/decking area (with hammock!) to relax and enjoy the view. Even when the thunderstorms inevitably roll in, there are awnings that cover the veranda so you can stay comfortable and dry whilst watching the storms. This was our first visit to Germany and The Black Forest and we thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend the area and this property especially.

Fabulous location
The property was located in a peaceful area and had lovely views. We loved seeing the wild deer who feed near the house. The cottage had almost everything that was needed. We were very grateful for the iron that was provided on request. However the availability of a washing machine would have been a huge benefit as we were travelling for several weeks from Australia. Katrina was very easy to communicate with and was helpful with all of our queries. She also provided really good information on places to enjoy in the area.

Stunning views; restful atmosphere
This is my third time at Krandel. It is pure joy to be here. Whether inside or outside, this place is magic. From coffee in the morning to wine in the evening, we almost never left the porch. The views over the fields, valleys and mountains are exceptional. It was especially charming to see two beautiful horses on the distant hill each morning. The peace and quite is so healing. The house itself is simply beautiful, like something out of a fairy tale. Comfortable, well appointed and charming. We created many memorable meals in the kitchen. The location, about 1/2 a mile from the center of the little village, creates a feeling of being away from the madding crowd yet near civilization. We walked the country roads every day. Yet you are close to excellent shopping and destinations for supplies, sightseeing and fun. Our favorite journey was our frequent meals at the Hirschen, an amazing country inn about 5 minutes away in Sallneck. We will return....again and again.

Prachtig huis in indrukwekkende natuur

Marvelous week in a beautiful house
This house is just gorgeous! It has it's own valley, where we even saw two young deer grazing one afternoon. The rooms are spaceous, and the balcony is a great place to enjoy the view of the forest and the distant mountains. The house is very well maintained. It is funished in a warm, cosy and homely way, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook a meal, including herbs and olive oil. It really made us feel at home the moment we walked in. Watching the sunset over the valley, or stargazing late in the evening, we really enjoyed the peace and quiet and just being away from the city. The host, Katrin, is a super friendly woman, who helped out with tips for trips and diners, and supplied a handy list on google maps with all kinds of interesting or fun locations. From an excellent bakery on the other side of the village, to the spa in Badenweiler. We found a lot of things to do on that list. All in all, we had a lovely, romantic week in this beautiful house, and enjoyed every second of it. Really a Dream Home!

What a place for wildlife
There is something very special when you look out and see a mother deer and two fawns just grazing in the meadow next to the house. Every evening a single deer grazed in the next meadow and rested in the copse of trees. Woodpeckers darted about and there were two pairs of black kites regularly circling or sitting on posts. Their call is haunting. The house was beautiful and had a nice feel to it. The views of the Black Forest and Alps were amazing and the children enjoyed everything we did. They even turned down Europa Park as they loved the toboggan run at Totdnau so much they wanted to do that again!! The only thing all of us wanted was a comfortable sitting area. The beautiful old table was great but left no space for a chill area downstairs

Great vacation in a unique place
We just came back from one of our best vacations. The house is really unique: it is a beautiful old house with all the modern facilities, fully equipped with all Necessary things for a family and very well maintained. We felt at home the minute we arrived. The house is located in the outskirts of a small village, outside of the tourist path but very close to all the attractions of the Black forest. We liked the sites and the adventures that the black forest has to offer but we also liked just touring around the house. Katrin, the owner is very nice. She gave us very helpful information about the attractions and the interesting things to do in the area. We would definitely come back

Super awesome holiday home
I totally recommend this super house for a out-of-oridinary vacation. It is so unique, a century old style home meet with all modern amenities you can imagine. So stylishly refurbished... deep in the wood... secluded... dream view over the valleys...you will find everything a mom needs in all the kitchen drawers!!! I promised! I can go on forever... Our host Katrin, she is magnificent, so helpful in every way. Being in Black Forest, you are so close to France and Swisserland. We had a great time at Alsace. Europark is very thrill and cool with teenagers. Me and my family stayed in Katrin's great house last year and it was one of the most memorable vacation home we had ever stay for the last 20 years!!!!! (I was moving home and country... wanted to write a review since months! Grad that I finally did it.)

Superb Stay/Great Location
I highly recommend this beautiful property for a delightful vacation any time of year. My family and I visited this house at various times in all four seasons. In the summer, I loved the refreshing break from urban heat and pollution, and used it as a convenient base for exploring the Rhine Valley and the Alsace (I was also able to easily take the train from Basel into Italy for some additional sightseeing). In the autumn, it was a charming, private getaway for our family trip; and in winter, the advantages are the nearby skiing on the Feldberg and/or a refeshing spa getaway in Badenweiler’s hot springs. It's superbly located for trips to nearby Switzerland - to Zurich, or Basel for the exhibitions and performances of the annual Art Basel show - or to France for a delicious meal in the charming setting of Colmar. The owner of the property is very solicitous of guests and thoughtful for their comforts. My family and I have nothing but the fondest memories of our times spent there, and look forward to coming back soon!

Wonderful House in a Serene Otherworldly Setting
This is such a beautiful, otherworldly spot in the Black Forrest. The classical Black Forrest house looks like something out of a fairytale. It sits above a tiny tiny village of houses, which are just out of sight and borders the forrest on one side and lovely pasture with happy cows on the other. Inside, with charming (and spotless) rooms managed to both elegant and rustic. Lovely art surrounds. Kitchen is well-appointed and eating at the long antique dining table on gorgeous velvet chairs was a real treat. I will love to return one day!

Krandel Haus
We had a very enjoyable stay in a lovely traditional Black Forest house compete with red geraniums, a verandah with bar-b-q and beautiful bucolic views. The location enables you to visit Alsace and Switzerland with ease as well as locations in the Black Forest.

Family vacation to Black forest and surrounding areas
Staying in this authentic old Black Forest home, renovated with all the modern amenities and luxuries made our trip to the area even more enjoyable. A great place from which to explore the surrounding areas of Germany, Switzerland and France. The house is beautiful, exquisitely decorated and very well maintained. Our host was extremely helpful in her advice about getting around, where to shop, eat, sight-see and relax. Our nine days was not enough time to explore the surrounding areas. I will be returning with my family again.

Paradise in Southern Germany!
We spent the most wonderful and relaxing time in this remote place in the Black Forest! We have been there in summer and in winter- it was always such a treat. The house is beautifully furnished and the nature is amazing! If you're lucky you get the best view of the alps ever! And we liked the vicinity of France and Switzerland!

Picture Perfect Stay in the Black Forest
This beautiful house is comfortable, peaceful and makes you feel like a local. It is a special place. It is amazing to wake up in the morning and take your coffee outside and watch the Alps appear. The cook your breakfast in a charming kitchen all in wood. It is magic. We have stayed here several times as the guests' of the owners and I would (and have) highly recommended this property to friends as a rental. It is very private; has lots of grounds for walking; is very serene and relaxing; and very close to great shopping and good local restaurants. Plus you are 30 minutes from beautiful Basel and St Louis in France...another wonderful place to shop. The house caretaker is a charming Black Forest woman who is so helpful and friendly. A must if you want to experience life in the Black Forest.
