Sugarloaf Cabin
Joel the owner is very accomodating and easy to get ahold of and even though he was out of the country, he did get back to us and gave alternative numbers for other contacts. The cabin was centrally located for things we wanted to do and has all the little thoughtful things like flashlights for taking an evening walk and small metal trashcans next to fire place and BBQ to make cleanup easy. The furniture and decor are a little dated, but for the price we liked it and would stay again.

Nice cabin
The owner Joel is so good at communicating, returning to my texts in a timely manner. He dropped off condiments for us, which was so nice of him. The cabin was cozy. The heater worked well. Enough blankets. Functional kitchen. We’ll stay there again!

Great family spot.
Awesome place in sugar loaf. We have 4 kids and a dog and we had a blast. Park and dog park right down the street. 10-15 minutes to village. 10 minutes to lake and trails. All appliances worked good. Brought our own wood, burned a lot.Take highway 38 its faster. We always bring our own sleeping bags but still clean. Shower lasted for all of us but be quick like Joel said. Super quiet compared to town. Would for sure stay again because of location and park and dog park very close. GREAT FOR FAMILIES, just come prepared. Thanks Joel!

Perfectly Peaceful Retreat
Our stay in Sugarloaf was spectacular, and I am very impressed with the professionalism and prompt replies from Joel, the owner of this wonderful home. The house is located in a quiet part of Big Bear, close to the forest and surrounded by trees. The backyard is enclosed and very safe for the dogs. The trees provide wonderful shade in both the front and back yard. We loved starting our morning on the porch swing drinking our coffee and watching the various birds and wildlife at play. The house was lovely, welcoming, cozy, and very spacious. The kitchen is fully stocked and we made great use of it and the charcoal grill. Washer and dryer worked like a charm. Parking space was up front and shaded by the trees. House was clean, spacious, and loved. The air is refreshing, and there is plenty of lighting inside the house at night. I highly recommend this wonderful home. We plan to return and are extremely grateful for this much needed experience. Thank you for being such a wonderful host Joel, you truly made out stay spectacular.

Cozy cabin
The cabin matches very much what you see in the listing. We enjoyed the neighborhood and drove into Big Bear Village for hiking and dinners out. The host was very quick on responding to our questions and very easy to work with when we had trouble getting the heater turned on. We had a large husky with us and enjoyed the fenced backyard, although, come to find out, the fence is shorter than he can jump when a squirrel runs by. It would be great for a smaller dog. Overall, a wonderful stay and we would stay again.

We had a wonderful time in Joel’s cabin in Sugar Loaf. The location was perfect for all the hiking we did. The cabin itself had everything we needed for a trip to the mountains.

Quiet, relaxing vacation house at Sugarloaf.
The house is in a nice, walkable neighborhood. We enjoyed reading on the back deck, hanging out with the dogs. At night, Netflix and Hulu filled our time. The house could use some updating, but was fine for us. The queen bed a bit soft, so we switched to the twin beds, and slept fine. The kitchen had everything you need to cook at home, and more. (Except a cutting board.) Would return when/if we get the time.

Very relaxing getaway
My husband and I enjoyed our 3 night stay in the cabin. The bed is actually a double, not a queen, so that was a disappointment. The property is fully fenced, and our dogs loved the freedom. The owner is very responsive to questions and concerns. There are a lot of barking dogs in the neighborhood, so it was not quite as peaceful as I had hoped. No way to control that, though!

Clean, roomy cabin in a quiet neighborhood, a short ride to BBL
Overall a good experience in a nice, though dated, cabin. Landlord was a pleasure to work with and showed concern for our enjoyment of the property. The only reason for holding back on a 5-star review was the fact that the living room furniture was old and extremely uncomfortable. Also, the TV was not connected to any cable or local channels, leaving only a malfunctioning DVD player and a VCR for viewing options. We didn't come to Big Bear to watch TV, but it was annoying. On the plus side, the swing on the big front porch was enjoyable for our summertime stay.

A nice place to stay in summer in the mountains
My wife and I stayed here for a week in the summer. The house is bigger than it looks on this site, as others have mentioned. Also, the neighborhood is quiet. If you walk south to where the street ends, then east a short block, there are trails through the pines. They make a nice place to walk after dinner in the summer. Just around the corner are a post office, small store, and tavern where you can buy a beer or a hamburger. There was no Internet, but it didn't matter because we got reception on our cell phones (Metro PCS) and were able to stream Netflix, check email, etc. There are a few movies onsite. We watched The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and a Roman Holiday. The owner, Joel, was easy to work with and communication was good. Would we rent again? Yes.

Great Cabin
Although it was just two of us, this cabin would easily fit 6+. The place was very clean when we arrived. Heater and hot water worked great and the fire place in the living room keeps the front of the place very cozy. I was very pleased with it and hope to come back soon

Very Cozy Vacation Cabin House
We loved the place the moment we arrived. My wife was surprised to see it being much more spacious compared to how it looked in the pictures. It's very homey. We wished we could have stayed longer... It's very family friendly. Videos, magazines, fun stuffed toys (our 4 1/2 year old daughter and 15 1/2 month son enjoyed playing with them) rustic fireplace, swing on the front porch and nice seating area on the back porch and more...

Bigger than you think
Even though this is a 2 bedroom house the living room is a really good size. The house is well kept and the location is pretty good. The kitchen is not very large but had the essentials. The fireplace is wood only do make sure you have some dry wood. We bought some that were a little wet and now our stuff smells like smoke. Is like going camping indoors :-) We had a great time and really enjoyed the house and my son loves the swing in the porch.

I am a 65 year old freelance and studio musician from Los Angeles. I have traveled the world with many of the greatest artists in the music business. I love to mountain bike, ski, swim, hike and camp and usually book my vacations after one of my tours finishes in a foreign land. Playing music has helped me be able to trek the Himalayas, travel to India 4 times, explore many countries in southeast asia, including China, Japan, Thailand and Malaysia, Indonesia and travel to almost every country in western and eastern europe. I've also been diving in Australia, Maui, Thailand, Malaysia, Bali, Raja Ampat, Gili Islands, Belize, Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc
I love to get away to my house in Big Bear(Sugarloaf) as often as I can, but when I'm not up there, I enjoy sharing the experience with my friends. I have been letting close and facebook friends use the place for several years now, booking through another site from 2011-2024. Hence, I don't have a lot of reviews on the VRBO site but I'm happy to share the over 300 4.8-5 star reviews I have from other sites upon request.
I wish you all a pleasant stay at my house if you decide to book. Thanks,
