Had a wonderful quiet stay and thoroughly enjoyed our time! The sounds of the water were so calming. Thabk you Sherry for sharing your beautiful cottage with us, we look forward to future stays
BEAUTIFUL place. Long neurotic list of rules about the property upon booking. Email after check out with unfriendly complaints about a dirty coffee cup, we hadn’t done the laundry before leaving. Unpleasant experience overall, would not book again.
We had an amazing two nights at the sweet Riverside Cottage! The property is idyllic for a getaway in nature with all the comforts of a real house at hand. From the efficient wood stove to the beautiful art and furniture, much of which is hand made by the owners themselves, this place is as harmonious and peaceful as it gets. Adding to the experience was the professional and conscientious host, who really made us feel special and cared for. These folks care about the property and their guests, and it shows! A perfect romantic weekend retreat, or I can imagine an excellent longer stay for artists looking to focus on their craft. I hope to return in the summer to enjoy a dip in the river, marsh mellows at the fire pit, and excellent stargazing right from the deck. Well done!
We had a wonderful weekend! The weather didn't cooperate, but we went exploring in the rain anyway, and were otherwise very comfortable inside. This is a beautiful property with everything you could want for a weekend getaway. The attention to detail, craftsmanship, art and decor were the icing on the cake. This is a special place.
Beautiful location, it's a little rrspite from the world, nestled among trees and a babbling brook. Something out of a fairytale. We enjoyed the space, the quiet (maybe a little too quiet... there's no TV), and the surroundings. Do yourself a favor and visit Rissers Beach, which is close by.
Our only complaint was the bathroom sink... it's incredibly difficult to use. Otherwise, it's a great location.
Lovely location, with gorgeous gardens and woods near a beautiful river. Very clean and comfortable. Everything you need. Lovely fire pit by the river to enjoy the late evening hours. Highly recommend!
We were totally impressed with Herons Rest. Our week there in August was a week to remember. Loves everything about the cottage and the area. . Would recommend it to anyone looking for a secluded retreat from the busy world.
Heron’s Rest was the most lovely getaway and we cannot recommend it enough. The cottage has everything you need and some very unique pieces. The sound of the river lulls you to sleep and the fire pit chairs is such a relaxing space. The whole property is so beautiful. Sherry was communicative throughout and made the experience so smooth. We can’t wait to get back!
What a beautiful and peaceful spot to rest and recharge. Immaculately clean and very comfortable. The spot beside the river is perfect for peaceful contemplation. Thank you for sharing it with us 💜
The location of the cottage was exactly as we hoped. The rapids were audible and soothing. Unfortunately, the firepit was closed and that was something we were really looking forward to enjoying. We encountered the host when we first arrived and the next day while they worked around the property. All in all, it was a nice stay but it wasn't exactly as we had hoped based on the listing.
The cottage is quaint, clean and has a very comfortable bed. Kitchen has all the essentials. Grill is nice and the knives are sharp! Garden is delightful. We were lucky enough to meet the owners and they are lovely humans. Rissers beach is nearby for quiet walks. Other sights are within 30-60 minutes drive. Weather was delightfully cool in August. Highly recommend!!!
The cottage and property were very nice, very private and peaceful outdoor surroundings. Was nice to get out of the city for a couple days and enjoy mother nature.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Heron's Rest. The property was beautiful, very clean, and had everything we needed for the duration of our stay.
I would absolutely stay here again without hesitation.
What a beautiful and completly private property !!! such love and care has gone into this place, it was immediatly apparent from the moment we arrived.
The weather was gloomy and rainy during our stay but what a lovely place to be hunkered down in the rain. The cottage is clean, cozy, warm and inviting, with everything you would ever need. Again... the love, attention to detail and care of this space is obvious.
The gardens ... just wow !!! Strolling through the pathways when the rain was light was medicine for my soul. Lovely flora in a perfectly natural setting. Stunning !
The pathways and rest areas at the river were amazing and well thought out with several viewpoints to enjoy. The flow of the water was exhilarating with lots of bird activity to watch; swallows, ducks, massive bald eagles and we were lucky to see the inredible Heron, all thriving from the river.
We will absolutly return, our next stay will definitely be a longer one so we can have more time to enjoy this wonderful space. Next time I hope to have great weather so we can enjoy that comfy looking hammock.
We had such a nice weekend. Check-in was very easy and the cottage was spotless. We were very comfortable, had everything we needed to cook a big meal, and loved the paths down to the river.
Location is great for exploring south shore and still close enough for a day trip to Halifax. Loved everything about this spot, the cottage, the river, the deck, BBQ, kitchen, shower, comfy bed and furniture, washer and dryer.
We had a great, quiet winter getaway here in this small well furnished cottage an the bank of a fast flowing river. The cottage is ideal for two and the location was great for walks on numerous beaches. Would like to see the gardens during the summer.

Paul and I love to explore Nova Scotia and are often seen clambering over waterfalls in search of a new spot to set up our tripods. In the summer months we love to sail, exploring the coast and joining in on the local races. Winter takes us outdoors to freeze our fingers off to catch the warm light of the perfect sunrise or out across the trails on x-country skiis.
Why they chose this property
This property is perfect for couples, it is in a quiet location with lots of privacy but nearby many attractions. In the winter its a great place to turn of the electronics and sit by the fire and relax. In the summer you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the river or a fire under the evening stars. There are many places close by to discover if you like to explore.
What makes this property unique
The most unique aspect of the cottage is its location above a set a rapids which can be heard in the cottage year round. This lovely sound of water provides the perfect acoustic backdrop to the cottage. Guests can enjoy their morning cup of coffee on the deck overlooking the river and watch the sun come up while they plan their day of adventures.
