Peaceful home
Travelled to Lehigh Valley for the national Mountain Bike Championships. It was a short and enjoyable drive to and from the venue. We had better rest, food, and family time than we would have had staying in the resort. The house was wonderfully well stocked and super clean!

Lovely stay at the farm
Bittersweet Guest house is a beautifully renovated old farmhouse. It is spotlessly clean, nicely decorated, and looks even better than the pictures! The beds are so very comfortable and the house has everything you need. The host has done a wonderful job on this renovation and is gracious and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay at Bittersweet.

Perfect escape from city life
The house is nestled into farm land, so peaceful and just stunning in the morning while the fog just sets down on the fields. The hosts are great! They made sure we had coffee and all essentials fom flour to olice oil. Cook ware was amazing and we had no issues cooking anything we wanted. Bathrooms were fully stocked making it easy since we forget our shampoo we didnt have to stress about anything. There is an AC unit in every room making it so nice and personal to everyone. The stairs are a bit steep but thats the usual for older houses in this area just keep in mind if stairs are hard for you all the rooms and the shower are located up stairs. We definiatly enjoyed our stay.

The Absolute Best!!
This was simply the best rental experience we have ever had! Dean & Debbie are the most wonderful, accommodating hosts you could wish for. The house was immaculate, super comfortable, decorated beautifully, and accommodated with everything we could possibly need. They have thought of every last detail. We were in town for a family wedding and had a pretty busy schedule. Dean and Debbie truly went out of their way to help us - even helping us with an errand while we were out!! I cannot day enough about these wonderful, caring hosts and this beautiful farmhouse. Just the best!

Exceptional!!!
My friends and I go on a girl's get- away every year and always use VRBO. This is by far the best of them all with Dean and Debbie going over and beyond in making sure you are happy with your stay. The most comfortable beds, toiletries you will never find anywhere else, the most exceptional kitchen with everything you need plus many extras. The house is very clean and allergen free. I can go on and on but just read all the other reviews and you will definitely want to stay here. They are all accurate! Thank you for sharing your Bittersweet rental with us! I can't wait to find time to return with my husband!

This is just what a HomeAway home should be. Tidy, simple, and cozy. We loved looking out at the farmland from the property as well.

Very Comfortable Weekend
The house and property have been perfectly tailored to create a relaxed and comfortable stay. D & D are great hosts. We like to cook, so the complete kitchen was perfect and even had spices, oils, sugar, flour and other items needed for cooking. We of course provided our own food, but the basics were a very nice touch. The appliances are all new and work very well. The area is quiet and we enjoyed an early morning coffee on the porch with the sunrise. The bedding is plush, natural fiber. Felt like I was floating on a cloud. The Bathroom was also completely appointed with all the basics and toiletries, products like Tom's and Burt's Bees. The towels are the thickest and fluffiest you will find. We do know the history of the house or is exact age, It does appear to to have been originally build in the 1800's and then expanded over the years. What we were impressed with was that the entire house has been remodeled and updated so that you still have that old farm house feel but everything works and is brand new. Explaining to you that the house is clean would be an understatement. Your hosts have put allot of focus on insuring that the house and fabrics are hypo-allergenic so there is nothing to interfere with your vacation. We had a great time and look forward to our next trip back. Thank you D and D, you really made our weekend!

Very comfortable with all you need
We had a great Thanksgiving here. Being 8 months pregnant with a 4 and a 6 years old we could relax. Despite the cold the kids still enjoyed the yard while we could see them from the window. The house is very well decorated and equipped, making it very confortable and worry free. The owners have indeed thought of every detail for any type of family (e.g. for us it was important to have a stair guard and there it was). The house has actually an extra room with a single bed, thus we could put our kids to sleep in separate rooms, which made the process much less entropic. Thank you for the restful stay!

Fantastic House
We would totally recommend staying at Bittersweet Guesthouse. Dean and Debbie were really helpful from the minute we booked. They sent information on places to visit and things to do to help us plan our stay. When we arrived Dean greeted us and made us feel very welcome and again was most helpful. The house itself was immaculate, one of, if not the cleanest house we have ever rented. The little extras of food, drinks and supply of coffee etc was very much appreciated and added that little extra touch. The supply of toiletries also added that little bit extra. The rooms were all really comfortable and we felt very relaxed and at home in the house. Due to our busy schedule we didn’t get much time to spend in the garden but it is beautifully maintained and lovely to sit on the swing seat with a nice coffee and just take in the views. It is in a great area to explore Pennsylvania. We loved the house and our stay here. Thank you Dean and Debbie Helen, Steven & Luke

A real little piece of home!
This is our second visit to Bittersweet and as it had previously, our expectations were exceeded. We come all the way from England to visit this place. So, come on Americans, if you want somewhere which is peaceful, set in some lovely scenery, graced by some cute wildlife at your back door, this is for you. Oh and Dean and Debbie too of course! Seriously, two more generous hosts, you couldn't wish to meet. The cottage itself has everything you could want, from complete washing and cooking facilities to, three well appointed bedrooms and space for the family to run around without getting under each other's feet. It's location is ideal too. About 70 miles and about 1.5 hours to Philadelphia, New York and Washington DC, within a couple of hours or so, are also easily accessible. And, it's close to the Blue Mountains, towns like Jim Thorpe are within about 45 minutes and being in Amish country, Lancaster, Strasburg and the surrounding areas are a short, scenic drive away. We're just trying to figure out our next visit! This place is lovely..........visit, visit, visit!

Beautiful, quiet house in the country
Bittersweet Guest House was the perfect place for our visit to the Allentown area. There was plenty of room for my husband and me, our son and his family. The house is beautifully, yet comfortably, decorated and Dean and Betty have gone above and beyond in providing lots of extras--closet full of plush towels, assorted coffees, books, and games. The porch and yard are great places to sit and enjoy the birds singing in the morning. With easy access to 78, the house is about 20 minutes from Allentown, and10 minutes from Kutztown. It far exceeded our expectations.

We would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the Reading/Kutztown/Allentown area. Deb, Carol, Shirley Grube (Lititz, PA) Kay Fritz (Kutztown, PA)

Wow! What a gem.
This was the best VRBO/Airbnb I have ever stayed at. The property was beautiful, we enjoyed taking walks in the yard and the baby birds that were born in our porch fern. The cleanliness was impeccable, I literally couldn’t find a dirty space in the house. The touches were fantastic, I swear the mattress was the best I’d ever slept on. Then we have the extras. We had simple groceries waiting for us. Organic and natural toiletries were provided which I immensely appreciated. Several recommendations were given, wish I had made it to all of them. Dean and Debbie, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Without your beautiful home and thoughtful touches, our family vacation would have been a lot less enjoyable.

Superb
Loved this place. A few miles from historic Kutztown the Bittersweet Guest House has everything you need. Comfy beds, a/c throughout that works well, fast internet, good TV and sound system, super clean, very good range of supplies - Keurig, milk, water, bananas... Owners live in the neighboring property and are on hand if needed, and then allowed us to just be at peace. We visited Letterman's diner in Kutztown for breakfast, a neat old converted railway carriage - don't go there not hungry!. Then, the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary where we hiked (medium difficult) to North Lookout and sat through the raptor presentation for 30 minutes with 3 birds on display - cool. Then, got rotisserie chicken and salad takeout from Wegmens Organic Store in the evening - what an awesome place. A great stay, wish it could have been longer. A definite 5*

Just like home!
We stayed at the Bittersweet Guest House recently and had a wonderful stay. Dean greeted us upon our arrival and showed us around. He made himself available all weekend if we needed him. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the home and ok the sweet touches that made it feel like home. We loved the coffee bar! Looking forward to our stay again as it’s close to where my father is residing.

Outstanding value and outstanding hosts!
When we arrived at Bittersweet Guest House, we found fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies and a serious puncture in our tire. Within a few minutes, our host helped me change the tire and set the tone of kindness and hospitality that characterized our entire experience. The house is magnificent, cozy yet spacious. The grounds were a genuine pleasure and my wife and two children enjoyed every moment. I can’t wait to visit again.

No better place to stay!
Dean and Debbie have set a very high standard! Their cottage is perfectly clean, wonderfully comfortable, and full of helpful conveniences. Dean and Debbie's hospitality is unmatched in our experience. This was our third stay at Bittersweet Cottage, and once again, it felt like a home away from home. Its location allowed us to plan visits to family in NJ and eastern PA. We will return.

Perfect Spot!
We came back for a second stay and a long weekend. The place was decorated with little touches of Halloween and Fall. So sweet! We really appreciated how Dean and Debbie go out of their way to make us feel at home.We arrived late on Friday and they had put some OJ and cream in the fridge (and a bag of ice) some bagels and bananas. So coffee next morning was easy b/c I would have forgot the cream! The place is so peaceful. You will not be disappointed.

Perfection
There isn't much to say that other reviewers haven't said over and over. My elderly mother lives in PA, I live in Canada, and I needed a place to stay when I visit her. Over the last three years my husband and I have stayed here about eight times a year. It is like a second home and we feel very lucky to have found it, even though it is a 45 minute drive from my mother. Staying here is well worth the inconvenience of the drive. The only thing I can add to all the praise heaped on Bittersweet is the fact that it is a very allergen friendly house. We came to see the house when it was first listed because I am sensitive to chemicals and fragrances, cannot stay in hotels without feeling ill, and was having a hard time finding a rental that was suitable. Debbie and Dean have done everything they could possibly do to accommodate this problem. I have not written a review until now for a very selfish reason - I knew that it would become very hard for me to book when I needed to visit my mother. Well, the cat has been out of the bag for a long time, and I offer my apologies to Debbie and Dean for not adding to the accolades sooner. They are incomparable hosts. And Bittersweet is the result of their ceaseless attention to details and hard work.
