About this property

Pine View Cottage - Perfect For Two

Pine View Cottage is a 1 bedroom/1 bathroom home perfect for a couple looking for a peaceful and private retreat in the town of Bodega Bay. The Pine View Cottage has a full kitchen, private fenced patio, barbecue and private hot tub.

The Pine View Cottage is located on scenic Highway 1 at the north end of the fishing village of Bodega Bay. It sits on a double lot adjacent to its sister-house, the Pine View Bungalow. There is ample parking for your car(s) or boat(s).

Pine View Cottage was converted from a vintage garage and completed in 2014. Upon entering the home, you will immediately notice the beautiful finishes including hardwood floors, skylights, and custom kitchen cabinetry. The living room is furnished with a comfortable sofa and leather chair. Additional amenities include free Cable TV, DVD/CD player with surround sound and high speed wireless Internet.

The bedroom has a queen bed and knotty pine ceiling. You really get the feeling of being inside a yacht. The stacked washer/dryer is inside an adjoining room that doubles as the closet for the bedroom. The bathroom is directly across the hall and has a jetted tub and shower combination.

There is a hot water on demand system for the house that provides unlimited hot water (although we encourage water conservation).

The kitchen is fully furnished with gas range, refrigerator and microwave oven. If you don't feel like cooking, you may choose to treat yourself to a great meal at the Michelin rated Terrapin Creek Cafe directly across the street. There's nothing better than walking to dinner - enjoying great cuisine, drinks and dessert - and not having to get in your car!

A private patio runs the length of the side of the house and contains the hot tub, table and chairs and a barbecue.

Also across the street is a kite shop with bins of salt water taffy, a small coffee house and a cute souvenir and apparel shop.

A short walk will take you to Porto Bodega where you can charter a fishing trip on one of the many charter boats, pick up locally caught seafood, or just explore the harbor and sample some of the best crab and clam chowder on the coast.

There are many recreational activities within a mile of the house, including golf, windsurfing, fishing, hiking, biking, kite flying, beachcombing, kayaking, bird and whale watching. Or you can explore nearby towns, such as Occidental (eat at Negri's restaurant), Freestone (Osmosis Spa is a must) and the Russian River area. Or just take a drive north on Highway 1 along the most spectacular coastline in the world. You won't be disappointed.

Bodega Cottage
We had to cut our stay short for a family emergency, but the place is very cozy and comfortable. Kitchen is well equipped (maybe a tea kettle and pot?), clean, and functional. Good bed, and the bathroom works perfectly. No complaints at all. We'll be going back.

Nice Overall with a little disappointment
We generally enjoyed our stay. The place was clean and the amenities made our stay convenient and comfortable. However, the hot tub, which was a criteria that led us to the selection of this property, was a disappointment. The hot tub took about 4 hours to heat up to about 97 or 98 degrees on the first day, before decreasing in temperature on its own. On the second day, it took about as long to heat up to 98 or 99 degrees before decreasing in temperature on its own again. The third day, although the temperature went up to 101 degrees, it did not feel like 101 degrees. It felt like 98 degrees ( like what we experienced the day before). That was our disappointment. But we still appreciated being able to enjoy our day trips to places around the area.

Great getaway
We love coming out to Bodega Bay, as we only live a few hours away. We found a gem with Pine View Cottage! Great attention to detail, you can tell the owners care about their guests. Nice linens, well-equipped kitchen, (we thought of buying some Dungeness crab, but didn't. Nice to know they even had utensils for that, like crackers and picks!), washer/dryer, and wonderful fireplace/heater. Very cozy for a few wintry days. The hot tub was great. It kept tripping the breaker as it heated, but the owner is aware and will make repairs. We can't wait to come back!

Perfect getaway for 2
Property is exactly as described. Property manager was very prompt and resolved a minor issue. House has everything you need, including a coffee grinder and an oyster shucker (in case this helps another wondering if they have to bring their own). Location is perfect for heading north or south for the day or just venturing around Bodega Bay. One of our favorite spots on the coast.

Perfect Weekend Get Away
My husband and I stayed 3 nights in this lovely cottage and enjoyed exploring the Sonoma coast. Bodega Bay is a quaint, small village and the cottage is in a perfect spot ~ very easy to get to and, even though it is right on HWY1, very quiet. It had everything we needed ~ plenty of space and comforts (how nice there was even a small "tool kit" we needed at some point!). We never took advantage of the hot tub, but could see that others would enjoy this. We hadn't visited Bodega Bay in nearly 30 years and it won't be another 30 before we go again! Thank you for a fun and relaxing stay.

Super cute little house with wildflowers blooming in front. Nice and tidy. Loved looking at the moss swaying from the pine trees while soaking in the hot tub. Washer need dryer came in handy with a five year old. Just the best little place to come and recharge. Can’t wait to book again!

Perfect Cottage for a weekend on the Coast
Perfect location and amenities for a weekend in Bodega Bay. Just across the street from a coffee shop and a very short drive to many lunch and dinner options. We attended a wedding at Secret Garden and were able to walk 5 minutes to the venue. The hot tub was an added bonus for a morning soak. Definitely recommend this cottage.

Relaxing Coastal Getaway
We loved our stay in the Pineview cottage. It felt very private even with the other house on the same property. We loved the hot tub - very nice amenity to have! The house was clean with many amenities and the perfect size for the two of us. The location was great too- we could walk over to the shops and down the hill for a good walk along the harbor. Would definitely stay there again!

About the host

Hosted by Rebecca Mills

Host profile image
Siblings Robert and Rebecca Mills, along with spouses Diana and Kevin Dougherty are co-owners of the Pine View Cottage and its sister home, the Pine View Bungalow. Robert spent many years as a custom home builder, and has put his expertise to use when remodeling the Bungalow and Cottage. Diana went to school to fulfill her dream and passion for landscape design and continues to put her knowledge and skills into practice at the Cottage. Kevin has been coming to Bodega since he was eight, and he and Becky spent their honeymoon here. They recently from civil service after more than 30 years, and currently live in Fair Oaks, California. Becky likes all things craft, and Kevin is an avid chef and gardener.

Why they chose this property

In 2010, Robert and Diana and Becky and Kevin had the wild idea to buy a little 'fixer' house somewhere in the Russian River area, where Diana's family has owned property for over 100 years. After looking at a lot of homes and making offers without success (our realtor almost gave up on us!) Robert and Diana drove to Bodega Bay in the pouring rain to look at a house that was just listed. To make a long story short, they knew the little house and garage at the end of town was 'the one'.

Money inherited from our cherished mother, Elizabeth Mills, allowed us to purchase the property in 2010. The house, the Pine View Bungalow, was remodeled and completed in 2011. The garage, now the Pine View Cottage, was gutted and completely remodeled in 2014.

What makes this property unique

The Pine View Cottage sits at the north end of town and shares a double lot with its sister property, the Pine View Bungalow. Because the lot sits next to undeveloped property on the east and north sides, it provides a real sense of privacy. There is ample space for parking cars and recreational vehicles in front. We also love the location for its proximity to one of the best restaurants in the whole area, Terrapin Creek Cafe, not to mention a nearby golf course and marinas.
