Large, beautiful home in a quiet street yet close to everything you'd need
Our family had a wonderful stay in this large beautiful home post-Christmas. The quiet street and large backyard was great for our small children. Plenty of living space with a sitting area, dining room and living area as well as kitchen downstairs. 2nd floor with two bedrooms, sitting room and study plus a bathroom and 3rd floor with king bed and huge bathroom. The house was ornately decorated and felt very homely. Fully equipped for all needs, including kitchen utensils, Nespresso machine, tv and wifi, plus the essentials like soap. Nothing seemed to be forgotten. David was extremely friendly and helpful during the entire booking process and stay. He was more than happy to assist us with any requirements to make our stay comfortable and was easily contactable. The house was very clean and tidy when we arrived. We were fortunate to have a car, but there is plenty to access within walking distance, including a great pub, Starbucks and the train station. It was the perfect house for us to use while visiting family in the area and we would definitely stay again given the chance.

Clean, well appointed home on a beautiful street in Glen Ridge, NJ. Close to restaurants and shops in Montclair. David made us feel welcome and was accessible. Everything in the house functioned well and was advertised.

Spending time in nj
Our stay in glen ridge was somewhat of a homecoming as we are originally from Mintclair Nj but living in Virginia. The location was perfect as it gave us access to the ny trains and gsp to the beach. The house was very spacious for our family and David the owner was great to work with. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay at this house in the future

This Home Needs Some Tender Loving Care
It gives us no pleasure to write a review that is not positive. In all honesty, we can not recommend this property to other potential guests in its current state. We have two vrbo properties that each have full 5 star-status and are labeled “rare finds”, so we know what guests expect and how a property should be optimally maintained. What the pictures do not show is how poorly maintained this Gen Ridge property is. The bushes are so overgrown that it is not possible to access the front walk way, and one risks falling on the weed-ridden grass while approaching the home. We understand wanting the privacy of mature trees and bushes, but this property looks sadly neglected and almost abandoned from the street. My heart sank as we drove down the narrow uneven driveway to the garage that was in disrepair. We then entered the rear porch door and up a set of weathered stairs with a shaky railing before entering the kitchen. Most of the lights in the kitchen were burned out (the owner’s daughter came by the following day to replace them, which we appreciated). The home had that “old-house musty smell”, and we wanted to air it out, but all the windows were nailed shut on the first floor (except two in the kitchen). The front door had no screen, so having the front door open meant that one had to risk getting mosquito bites. Furthermore, no matter how long we ran the air conditioner, it never got cool. We had 3 of us stay at the home and we were uncomfortably hot every night (stayed 3 nights) while sleeping up on the second floor. The inside of the refrigerator was dirty with a half head of cabbage, old cut onions and other rotting vegetables taking up space. EVERY closet had clothes in them, and the owners made no notable effort to create sufficient space for one’s own luggage and clothes. I was compelled to go to the store to buy some cleaning supplies so that we could tidy up the place. The front glass door was super filthy as were all the windows, and yes, we spent time cleaning the owner’s windows and sills. We wanted to enjoy the outdoors, but then had to sweep the front deck and clean all the outdoor table tops and chairs to use them; they had a winter’s worth of dust and grime on them. During our second evening, we had a few friends and family drop by for a few hours (had dinner catered so as not to dirty the kitchen and would not have to cook). We all commented on the home's beautiful architecture but lamented how poorly it was maintained.

Faboulous Holiday at this Beautiful Home!!
This was an amazing and perfect home for our Christmas holiday. All my children and their friends and their friends all came over and spent many days and nights cooking and celebrating the holidays. The house was perfectly stocked with kitchen items and the rooms were perfect with comfy beds. Really enjoyed the location which was really important as it was centrally located. David was a delight to work with and I would recommend this home to anyone who is looking for a special place to bring friends and family. Clean and very nicely decorated and totally lovely all around. Kathy from North Carolina

Great location, very big house, excellent communication with Owner
Our group of 5 adults stayed here for a week. There are 3 beds - 2 queen and 1 king. There are 2 1/2 bathrooms. The house is very large and is 3 stories. My husband and I stayed in the bedroom on the 3rd floor and we found the room comfortable and private. The master bath across the hall is very large and the shower works great. There is a large bath tub, but we didn’t get a chance to use it. We did feel a little exposed on the 3rd floor because there are no window coverings on the windows, but other than that we were happy with the space. Our 2 friends and our daughter stayed on the second floor and shared the bathroom on that floor. They said their rooms were comfortable and the bathroom was ok. They did mention that they wished the shower head worked better and that the drain was slow. On the first floor there is a living room, formal dining room, family room with TV, a large eat-in kitchen and a 1/2 bath (no shower). It was plenty of room for our group to spread out and relax in their own space. There is parking in the driveway on the side of the house with easy access to the back entrance of the house. The owner David, was very quick to respond to our texts and kindly answered questions and gave some good recommendations on things to do. He recommended a coffee shop that was excellent - Local Coffee. The location is great. Not far from Newark airport and a short walk to the train station.

Lovely Home, Park-like Yard, Quiet Neighborhood!
Five of us friends rented this property because it was centrally located for our Jersey City, Upstate New York and NYC vacation . . . AND it was a 3 story turn of the century home in a safe neighborhood. Much more fun than a hotel! The house was HUGE, which gave the 5 of us our own space, yet it still felt "homey". It had all the amenities of home, including a washer and dryer, 1 king bed, 2 queen beds, and a sofa that converts into a single bed, which I found comfortable. The 3 toilets, 2 showers, and a DEEP soaking tub (in the giant 3rd floor bathroom) came in handy for 5 women. It rained most of our stay, so we didn't get to enjoy the huge park-like yard but enjoyed the view from inside. David, the owner, was soo nice and responsed quickly to any questions we had. This is a wonderful old house and staying here made our vacation even better!

Chefs kitchen, sunny, antique house, 30 min to NYC
We were looking for a short stay (30 minute drive from the city) while renovating our apartment in NYC. Booking went seamlessly (David is fast to respond and very accommodating). The house is gorgeous, tastfully decorated (mix of Art Deco and modern), chefs kitchen overlooking the winter garden, sun filled bedrooms. We even threw a dinner party for our friends - we couldn't resist hosting at the massive dining room with a Tiffany chandelier and a piano. Would recommend for families, couples. Also ask David for NYC culture tips. He is your man.

Gorgeous, metropolitan area retreat
My fiancé and I were visiting family in Montclair and were looking for a nearby place. The home was large and beautiful. We easily were able to host our family for dinner, and then we went for a lovely walk around the historic town. David was hilarious and only a text away. We really enjoyed our time and would stay again!

Very pleasantly surprised
The booking process and communication with the owner was easy and quite funny. David is quick to respond and has a knack for whimsical remarks that were just a preview of the things to come. We planned a family reunion and wanted to be reasonably close to the city but without the undue stress and sky-scraper high hotel prices. Plus, we wanted a true family getaway where we can all sit, dine and spend quality time like we did when we were all young in a home-type environment. The pictures are great but they do not truly convey the homeliness and the character that the house provides. It is a huge 3 story turn of the century home that is accented by all sorts of art and antiques with real hardwood floors that occasionally even squeak. My wife is much more of an expert than me in such matters but she said that the character of the house comes alive with the help of antiques from all sorts of eras and regions of the world. All that I can say is that I loved the new amenities that were seamlessly incorporated in this old home. Thank you for letting us enjoy your home. We truly felt welcome and will definitely come back again!

Perfect for those who appreciate art
This historic house is on a tree lined very quiet street in a pretty suburban town of Glen Ridge. The train station is just a few minutes walk away and the train goes right into NYC faster than you can find street parking! And much cheaper than the tolls. A few blocks away is Montclair, full of restaurants and shopping. You could walk, drive or take an Uber to get ther; I chose to walk on the beautiful weekend. This house is a true part of American history, all original inside, furnished with museum quality antiques, and high ceilings. Probably close to 3000 sq feet of pleasure, including a sauna- incredible! Compare it to a hotel room and rejoice. David, the owner was just a text away with a great sense of humor and amazingly hospitable. It was sparking clean and comfortable. I would give this place 6 stars if I could and am definitely coming back just to stay at this house in the future! I recommend this property to anybody with taste and love of art, history, and comfort. It's amazing that thanks to VRBO you can travel with such class, and comfort and have so much space; a true vacation. PS it's sits back on the big lot surrounded by lots of foliage. Very private

Comfortable stay in a beautiful home.
We rented this property from David for a family Christmas get together. With people coming from all parts of the world we needed a space that was big enough for all yet provided privacy when needed. The house is on a quiet, easy to get to town in a GREAT area. Train station four blocks away that goes right into NYC and a few blocks away from Montclair NJ for restaurants and shopping. The house has so much character and space, we loved it. David the owner was soo easy to work with (this I can not stress enough) and was peach of a man answering all questions promptly not matter how annoying they were. I would abs. recommend this property and owner if you need a larger property. He was delightful. They even dropped off a bottle of champagne for the new year!! We had an easy trip in an amazing house rented by an amazing man!!

unimpressed with antiques
I would not recommend this property. Cleanliness was not regarded with the highest priority. It did not live up to my standard of living. The responsible person left in charge thought a request of a regular coffee pot and an iron/ironing board was unusual. The outside wasn't maintained well. All trees and shrubs were overgrown. You couldn't even see the front door! Not very welcoming. The problem,as I see it, is that the owners live there. They took a vacation while my family "moved in". If that's the kind of conditions they want to live in, that's their business; but renting a house for top dollar requires that it be kept spotless, especially the kitchen, with an ample supply of linens to accommodate a family of 5 for 10 days. If they want repeat customers!
