About this property

Restored Jefferson Bungalow In The Heart Of The Historic District

The large red brick bungalow was built in 1919 by Benham Hunsaker, an Ogden resident who worked at the famed Stockyards on the west side of the river. In 1946, Mr. Hunsaker split his property into 3 units, to accommodate the many returning WWII soldiers. The home went through many owners, and remained a triplex - one that housed less-than-illustrious residents. The current owner purchased the home in 2007, and had just finished a massive remodel in February 2013, when an arsonist broke into the basement and set it on fire. It was nearly a total loss. After 16 months, the home was restored, rebuilt, and reverted back to the original single-family floor plan. The new home features original hardwood floors (that survived the fire) new Craftsman kitchen cabinets, granite counters throughout, tile baths & showers, central vac, all new electrical, plumbing, heating & air conditioning.

The home features 5 bedrooms + a library, with one king bed, four queens, a full futon, and two twin futons. There are two family rooms, both with cable TV & internet, a wet bar in the downstairs family room, and a storage room for bikes, snowboards, golf clubs and any extras.

This home works extremely well for corporate long-term rentals, as well as temporary housing for relocation. Keep in mind that Owner Sue Wilkerson is also a RE/MAX Broker/Owner, which can make your move even easier. The home has been used for family reunions, ski and cycling trips, graduations, wedding parties and corporate retreats, as well as long term relocation and employment-related housing. Should you need accommodations for more than 30 days, feel free to google her and we can avoid a taxable stay. It's a perfect home-away-from-home for those in between houses in the crazy real estate market.

There are full-size stacker washer & dryer, dishwasher, disposal, microwave and most every kitchen utensil I could think of.

The yard is features a fully-fenced rear yard. There is off-street parking for 4, at least, and easy access to all amenities.

Jefferson Bungalow perfect for us!

We were two parents, one college son and one adult son. Great restored house in a great location! We could walk downtown and to 25th street and it was less than 2 mile drive up to trails. Snowbasin only 30 min drive away. The house was clean and had everything we needed. Large and lots of spaces for hanging out. Beds were very comfortable! Sue was a great host and gave us good suggestions for the area. Will stay here again next time we visit!

Great place

Quite impressed with the house. We all enjoyed our stay. There is plenty of seating in the living room and especially liked the huge dining room table with enough chairs (and then some) for our group. Would stay again.

Large cozy home

The home is beautifully decorated with comfy beds and furniture. It has lots of room to relax in and it is close (walking distance) to restaurants and to major streets. It ended up with only two of staying, but a large family could easily stay here, lots of room to spread out. We will definitely book this property again.

wedding trip

7 of us came from the midwest to attend a wedding. The house was great and the location was just where we needed to be. Sue, the owner, came by soon after we arrived and gave us a lot of helpful tips on the area. We would absolutley stay in this house again if we were in the area and recommend it to a large party.

Awesome time in Ogden

A great layout for our family. Basement suite was perfect for my son and his wife. My 3 other children each had their own room, while my wife and I were very comfortable in the master bedroom. Great kitchen with an open floor plan and a dining room table that could accommodate 10. Great location to explore Utah. Plenty to do in historic Ogden. Close to Powder, Snow Basin and Nordic ski resorts. If we return, we’ll stay here. PS - Sue is GREAT to work with.

Wonderful home for families

We can't say enough good things about our stay here. The house is very spacious, and our teens especially liked the fully furnished basement. It was like they had their own apartment. The kitchen has everything you need and then some. The bathrooms all have toiletries in case you forgot something or didn't bring your own. Sue was amazing to rent from. She texted several times to make sure all was okay and we had everything we needed. We highly recommend staying here!

Charming and deceptively roomy!

Loved this property and the TLC that has been poured into it. We had 8 people very comfortably housed for a week then dropped to 4 for our second week. We enjoyed congregating in the living room by the fire and dining room. Walks in the historic district were great and of course, Snow Basin skiing was accessible and primo. Thanks to Sue and Rachel for looking after us.

Perfect place for family gatherings!

We reserved the this beautiful home when staying in Utah for our son's wedding. It was just what we were looking for - to have family over while finishing wedding plans and enjoy post-wedding family time. The house had everything we could possible want and then some! It is a beautiful home with quite a rich history. As an added bonus, Sue was very attentive and responsive to questions; making sure we had a great time time while in Ogden. We will definitely reserve this property for future visits!

Spacious, comfortable, with well equipped kitchen

Our second stay at this great property, which is convenient to downtown (5 blocks), and quiet, in a residential neighborhood. Well equipped kitchen. Our group of 8 ate all our meals here. Very spacious and comfortable.

Spacious, well appointed Hunsaker House

This was our second stay at the Hunsaker House. It was wonderful to return to this comfortable and beautifully decorated home! There was plenty of space to entertain our friends and everyone was interested in the history of this house. Sue even had a decorated tree up and we loved sitting in the living room with the fireplace turned on. This home will be the perfect spot for any large family gathering!

Great location and at home feeling

The house had everything we needed and more. The space for my entire family was great! We enjoyed the White Christmas Experience on Christmas Eve. The kids loved the play room with games and toys with a TV in the basement. My aunt made a wonderful Christmas dinner in the well stocked kitchen and we read a Christmas Eve story to all the kids next to the fire with hot chocolate and marshmallows. There is a park conveniently located that we walked to as well. This house would be perfect anytime of year but we were more than happy to spend our second Christmas season in this house!

Great home! Beautiful, roomy, and comfy.

This was a great home to stay in! It was perfect for our group. I would give it 5 stars. We did not realize until the last day that the ice-maker was not working, but we had not needed it up to that point. It may have been user error. Beds were very comfy. Location provides easy access to downtown Ogden, and if you know Ogden, access to beautiful hikes and places are everywhere. the owners were kind and gracious.

Great large family or family reunion home!

I rent VBRO and other houses all over the country for vacations and work. This Was one of our best experiences ever! The owner is fantastic to work with. The home is very nicely appointed with a very well equipped kitchen, comfy beds, nice fireplace. We lacked for nothing. The owner even decorated for Christmas! Next time we're in Ogden, we will be here. Only wish we could have stayed another week

Loved It!

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely home in Ogden! It was very spacious and fit all 11 of us just fine. It really felt like home and was very comfortable - so much better than any hotel! The inside is very modern, has all the amenities, and is nicely decorated. The beds were comfortable, the air conditioning worked great (even in a heat wave), and we really loved the high shower heads in the bathrooms since we're tall. :) The beautiful kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need - right down to spare paper towels in the closet. There is so much throughout this house to make you feel at home. We are so glad we found this place, and if we need a place to stay in Ogden in the future, we would rent this home again in a heartbeat!

Home Away From Home

We stayed here for nearly two months during our transition from overseas to our permanent home and it more than met our needs and expectations for our family of nine. Very spacious and had all the amenities... Sue is wonderful and takes great pride in her home. She is very flexible and was able to adjust and extend our stay while we waited to close on our home. Definitely recommend this property either for a short stay or longer stay.

Love the Hunsaker Bungalow!

This property has been beautifully remodeled and decorated, so don't overlook it due to the plain brick exterior. It offered the perfect space we needed to entertain our family and friends for our son's Weber State Graduation. The open kitchen, dining room and living room offered ample room for our huge meal gatherings. There was plenty of space for sleeping and three bathrooms. Sue has included many thoughtful extras in the house and I would highhly recommend it for your gathering. We can't wait to stay here for our daughter's graduation!

Beyond our expectations

We decided to look for a home to share Thanksgiving with three of my children living in the Utah area and Idaho. We found this property and booked it. Sue, the owner was wonderful and very helpful. The home was fabulous, homey, and comfortable. The area around the home was very good with the historic sites that we enjoyed walking to. Each family member only had good things to say about our vacation. I would recommend this to any one. Also much cheaper than a nice hotel and better accomodations.

About the host

Hosted by Sue Wilkerson

Host profile image
Sue Wilkerson believes in Ogden, probably more than most. Watching the city change over the past 14 years has been inspiring to her – and provides her with the experiences to share with you on a blog dedicated to her love of Ogden. So many times, those visiting - or moving to - Ogden just don’t have any idea how great it is here – her passion is contagious – you’ll be addicted soon to the mystique of the “outdoor recreation capital of the world”.

Sue’s dedication to community started at an early age, growing up in Boulder Creek, California. Her spirit of civic responsibility was fueled by a college internship with Congressman Leon Panetta in Washington, DC. After graduating from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in Agriculture, Sue went on to build an agricultural trucking business with her then-husband Ralph in Woodland, California. Moving to Utah in 1997, she spent some time in air freight, and then settled into real estate in 1999. Starting with Coldwell Banker, she soon launched her brokerage Terra Venture Real Estate in 2002, which has transitioned to RE/MAX Crossroads! It led her to fall in love with Ogden and the historic districts, with the grand mansions of yesteryear.

Sue stays involved as the past-president of the Junior League of Ogden, board member of the Eccles Art Center, a Spiker for the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce, Ogden City Landmarks Commissioner, active Trolley District advocate, and an honorary commander for the 388th Maintenance Squadron at nearby Hill AFB, among other activities. Living in the most amazing outdoor venue, Sue spends time snow-boarding, biking, hiking and cooking for all of her friends. She is happily single and living in a historically-designed infill home in Ogden’s Trolley District. Sue's love for historic, cool homes led her to purchase several great brick homes in the Trolley District, and she has refurbished many of them, improving neighborhoods and giving folks a cool place to live!

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with the bead-board eves, the gorgeous woodwork, the big front porch and the amazing front door. Since the fire tried to take away some of those things, I have worked to provide a wonderful home-away-from-home for the traveler, the executive on leave to Ogden, a family in transition between homes or the family needing a great place to land during family events.

What makes this property unique

The home is so close to downtown Ogden, the hot-spot of things to do! Every amenity is within walking distance, except, perhaps, Costco, but it is only a 5 minute car ride...

Blending my own love for travel with the wonderful layout of this home, it really has been the Phoenix rising from the ashes. I put every feature in this home that i love in mine, just down the street, and then some. The views from the kitchen window of the valley, and the mountain views from the living room make this a special place.
