Fabulous property for 2-3 families- Super Host

Vicki's property is perfect for a large family reunion or 2-3 families. It comfortably accommodated our 2 families (4 adults, 4 kids), with space for more on sofa foldouts. The cabin has an updated kitchen with a huge island/bar and is incredibly well stocked with everything you could possibly need including crockpots, basic supplies, etc. The master bath has a jacuzzi tub which the kids enjoyed one night, and there is a second shower upstairs. The huge recreation room is a great place for the kids to play and hang out! We enjoyed snowball fights and lots of play in the huge driveway. Vicki was an amazing host, checking in frequently even while on holiday in Mexico, and making sure we had everything we needed. There was a huge storm before we left home to drive up and she checked in and offered to change our dates by one day on each side if we had to go a day later because of the road conditions. Warm, friendly, considerate, and overall a lovely person! She also spends time at the cabin with her grandkids so the house is truly kid-friendly, not the sort of place where you constantly have to say, "Don't touch this" or "Be careful of that". It has exactly the right balance of being clean, well cared for and comfortable but not so pristine that you're stepping on eggshells when your kids run around. A couple of things to note: hot water does run out after 3 showers or so, even quick ones, so if you are a large group, you'll have to stagger showers and wait about an hour after 2-3 folks have had showers. This wasn't a problem once we knew we had to do so and it's also something I've experienced in other Tahoe cabins. Secondly, as noted in the description, the upstairs gets cold but there are space heaters provided and it didn't affect our enjoyment of the place. I would definitely return! This is a great holiday rental!

Great for a larger family or a trip with multiple families as there is an upstairs play room for the kids. Only 5-10 minute drive from Tahoe Donner Ski Report and 10 minutes to downtown Trukee.

A warm lovely home for a winter visit

We spent 3 nights in the home with 7 people and had a wonderful stay. The house is spacious, well kept and very clean. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking tools and basics like cooking oil and spices. The living room was comfy and lots of options were available on the television. The upstairs rec room was fun and provided space for the group to spread out for different activities in the evening. Vicki was prompt and clear in all her communications and made sure everything was okay during our stay. Best of all though was as we were leaving at the end of our stay, a winter storm rolled in that closed the 80 out of Truckee. Vicki called us to make sure we knew and proactively made her home available to us past our reserved time so that we had a warm and safe place to wait out the storm. What a wonderful person she is. We look forward to coming back to stay again!

Home away from home!

This is a truly home away from home kind of place. The cabin is welcoming and you feel the owners care for it. The Beds were comfortable, cabin was clean, the kitchen is so well equipped! Our Thanksgiving turkey came out just perfect. Vicki was in touch with us prior to arriving and during our stay making sure we have everything we need. Great location to spend time with family.

Amazing house, amazing host

Vicki's house is a true gem in Tahoe - the level of care and thoughtfulness in the house is visible everywhere, from her communication before we arrived to all of the small details (like extra blankets in each of the bedrooms) throughout the house. 8 friends stayed in the house over Thanksgiving, and the table was perfectly sized for us all to share a big communal meal. The photographs of the kitchen looked great, but in person it's even better - they have every single kitchen utensil you could need, and a fantastic gas stove. And the massive granite countertop really pulls the whole thing together. We were able to have 4 people cook at the same time without crowding one another. The only 'downside' to the house we found is that heat doesn't spread evenly - the downstairs kitchen/living room was usually really warm, while the upstairs bedrooms were cooler. Vicki thoughtfully provides space heaters to help with this. The upstairs 'game room' is a great contrast to the downstairs living room - we were able to retreat up there after meals to enjoy a different setting and take advantage of the many games and puzzles. The card table was a particular hit for our group, as was the bar. For activities, we went on a 'tunnel hike' through an old railroad tunnel up near the donner pass. It was a bit difficult to get to the start of the tunnel in the snow, but the views of the lake + graffiti + history of that railroad were interesting enough to make that absolutely worth it. There are also lots of trails for walking or xc skiing within just a few minutes drive. Overall, I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to any friends interested in staying in Donner.

Awesome 4th of July Getaway

My family and I had great time at this spacious cabin. We stayed the weekend with my brother's family, so there was a total of 10 of us. There was so much space, our kids could hang out in one part of the house (teenagers!!), while the adults hung out in another. The bar/game room was awesome, we played cards at the poker table. The cabin is far enough from Donner Lake that we were able to avoid the crowds, yet still be lake front in 5 minutes. I'm definitely recommending this cabin to family, and friends visiting the area.

Great family vacation!

We had a wonderful time at this spacious Tahoe retreat. The house was fully stocked with everything- plenty of pots & pans, spices, games, sleds. The game room was lots of fun with a poker table, Wii and several pull-out couches. Very convenient location and great layout. Would highly recommend to others. We are a family of 5, but it could easily accommodate 2 families.

Adorable Donnor/Truckee Retreat

A true gem in the Donnor Lake/Truckee area. Within minutes of the lake, town, shopping, skiing, golfing, horseback riding, hiking trails, etc., yet set in a quiet, secluded, treed, residential area with large lots to ensure peace and privacy. Has an easy-access, large parking area for boats, cars, SUVs, etc. House has a spacious, open "great room" which encompasses the living room, dining area, and kitchen - perfect for large family get-togethers. Large master suite and bathroom are also on the first level. The two upstairs bedrooms are spacious with cozy, comfortable beds. We have stayed there a number of times with our children and grandchildren and have enjoyed it immensely.

Fun and relaxation in Tahoe

What a wonderful place to spend some relaxing time in the wonderful Tahoe area. This home is very inviting, with the master down stairs so the kids can play upstairs and you can still have some privacy. Also with a great Jacuzzi tub off the master suite. The large game room upstairs is a great place to party and have fun, it also has a wonderful bar. If you like rustic motif, clean air and peace and quit you won't be disappointed.

We have stayed here a few times and we find many new and exciting things to do each time. The location is perfect for all ages. Hiking, swimming, rafting, picnicking, RELAXING! The cabin is homey, clean, and feels very safe. I have stayed here by myself as well and felt very secure. There are many things to do without even getting in your car...games, card table, TV,music,or just sitting on the deck around the fire pit gazing at the stars.

Wonderful cabin for the family

What a beautiful place. This cabin is the perfect place for families of all ages to visit! We were there with two children (8 & 6) and my in-laws. When the grandparents needed a break from the commotion they were able to relax down stairs away from the kids as there is a HUGE playroom with tons of toys and games far enough away upstairs to keep the kids occupied. The neighborhood is low traffic and the kids were able to run around outside without heavy traffic on the road to worry about. The 4th of July parade in Downtown Truckee brought back memories of the small town parades I grew up with. Donner Lake, downtown Truckee, hiking, fishing, and a short drive to North Shore Tahoe - there is so much to do up here!! Thank you for letting us use your beautiful cabin to make so many great memories!!!

Mystical getaway

My husband and I, our two sons, their wives, and two Labrador retrievers, spent the week after New Years in 2013. The owners had graciously left the spectacular 12' Christmas tree still standing and 5' of fresh snow had fallen, creating a winterland that only happens in dreams! Tons of parking. Plenty of room for all, open kitchen with huge counter so the chefs were always part of the group conversations and meals were a family affair. The "girls" enjoyed hot spirits in the lower level living room gazing out at the falling snow, while the "guys" played poker, played fuse ball, ate fresh popcorn with keg beer from the bar in the enormous upstairs "rumpus room". We all skied at the slopes just a short drive away, enjoyed dinner at the Club, and thrilled the dogs with long walks on the off leash trails just up the mountain. From there you are able to see the back runs of Northstar and breathtaking Tahoe scenery. It's truly a happy place, and our only regret was that our visit was too short to do and see all that Tahoe Donner has to offer. Plan to do it again soon!!!

We are an active retired couple who's dream has been to own a cabin in the mountains. We live in Rocklin so it's 80 miles door to door and we can run up whenever we want. We are both California natives and have been going up to the mountains for over 50 years. We are amazed that our dream has come true.

Why they chose this property

We have 4 children and 8 grand children under the age of 10. We wanted a family friendly place where there was room for everyone. The Tahoe Donner area is amazing for young families. There is a fun activity every weekend. You can be as relaxed or busy as you want. We love that the kids can be wild and crazy upstairs and we can hang out downstairs. There is a great bar upstairs so my husband has his man cave. Many a good time has been had with the entire family playing games. I have never had a bad time there.

What makes this property unique

We provide a pass that for a minimal fee allows you access to the private beach at Donner Lake, the recreation centers that have 4 pools, 3 hot tubs and a workout room. the equestrian center, tennis courts and golf course.
