Great stay in Venice!
My wife and I were delighted to stay for the second time in Alex's house. It once again fullfilled all our expectations. The place is awesome : large, modern and tastefully decorated, ideally located in the heart of Venice neighborhood, just short walk to Abbot Kinney. Alex is a wonderful host, welcoming and helpful. We really had a great stay in Venice. I would definitely recommend this place.

Disappointment
My husband and I rented Alex's house for three nights in August. When we arrived to the house the temperature outside was 90°. We were shocked when we walked inside. The heat was unbearable. Alex's partner was drenched in sweat while giving us a tour. We couldn't stay in the house for more than five minutes. It is not uncommon to not have air conditioning in Venice Beach but this house has no ventilation (High walls surrounding the house) and it would have been impossible stay in this house comfortably. When we called Alex and expressed our concern he basically told us he was sorry but he was not going to refund us or help us in anyway. We had to leave the house and swallow the $3000. It was frustrating to us that someone would do business this way. Aside from this experience, the house in general is not as nice as it is portrayed in the photos. It has more of an empty apartment feeling. There are many properties on VRBO in Venice beach that are nicer/less expensive. I would not recommend this place.

Beautiful Space, great location!
We stayed at Alex's house in August for 4 nights with my husband and daughter. The house is beautifully designed and comfortable. It has all the amenities one needs for a lovely stay. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was luxurious. . The outdoor area is perfect for coffee each morning. The location is ideal. Walking distance to Abbott Kinney and great restaurants. Gjelina and GTA and Tasting Kitchen. Also drive to Gjusta and have a wonderful lunch. There is a yoga/spin studio YAS near by, as well as great shopping.

Beautiful house, perfect location
This house is gorgeous and full of amenities. It is better than even the pictures capture. The outdoor area is spectacular and you are able to open the huge glass sliding windows to enjoy the beautiful Venice weather and cool zen rock garden and fountain. The location is ideal, just a few steps from Gjelina - our new favorite LA restaurant plus tons of other restaurants and shopping along Abbot Kinney. This house is a short walk to the beach. Very safe and very private. The owner and our contact during our stay were so accommodating and helpful. 5 stars all the way! I cannot wait to return for another stay at this amazing property.

Architectural Escape
My profession often brings me to Los Angeles. While I am there I love finding beautiful and inspiring spaces to work and relax... Alex's tranquil home was perfect for both. I had the good fortune to be one of the first to stay here and Alex couldn't have been more accommodating. I loved the amazing breezeway created with the sliding window walls that open to the impeccably landscaped outdoor spaces. You will adore the soothing sounds of the fountain which is lit at night... magical. The home is very spare which adds to the sense of calm I felt there. It's just a few minute walk to Abbot Kinney where you will find fabulous restaurants, quaint shops and just a quick jog to the beach. Loved!

Total tranquility in the heart of Venice!
My partner and I just finished a stay at the Milwood House and we loved every moment of it. The house is brand new and it is the 'Architectural Gem' that the owner described in its' listing. It is located on one of the most desirable streets in Venice (a half block from the heart of Abbott Kinney), and a 10-15 minute walk to the beach. The house is of a modernist design, and is like something you will find in Architectural Digest or Dwell. No detail was spared...from the placement of the 9 foot glass sliding walls to the Miele appliances (good luck finding the refrigerator), to the gorgeous colored concrete floors. This house is picture perfect modernist and minimalist design at its best. The owner (Alex) is a experienced architect and clearly has built his dream house (and also was available 24/7). There are 2 structures on the property, and this unit is in the back and not right on the street. So incredibly peaceful, relaxing and completely private...yet 1/2 a block from the excitement and vitality of Abbot Kinney. If you are looking to 'unplug', relax, and truly 'live the Venice lifestyle' then this is the place for you. We have already spoken to Alex about returning next summer.

About the host

I am both the architect and owner of my just completed dream home here in Venice Beach. I grew up in Menlo Park (the heart of Silicon Valley). I graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA degree in English Literature, and later from SCI-Arc (the Southern California Institute of Architecture) with a Master of Architecture degree. I then worked for Frank Gehry and Associates here in Los Angeles for several years, and later with Ricardo Bofil in Paris and Barcelona, before starting my own practice here in Venice. My studio/ apartment are housed on the second level of the property.

Why they chose this property

Though I purchased the property in 1998, the qualities which originally attracted me to Venice and the Milwood area, stand fully in today's Venice Beach... the town's walk-ability, access to the beach, an artistic, educated and eclectic community, and top, hip eateries, shops and coffee houses.

What makes this property unique

Southern California indoor-outdoor living comes to life in this recently completed unique, architectural gem. 9 foot floor to ceiling walls of glass and sliding doors (some that disappear completely into walls) open onto tranquil gardens, outdoor patios, and a magnificent water element. The Kitchen includes all Miele appliances (refrigerator/ freezer, dishwasher, oven/ microwave, and 4 burner gas stove top) and custom cabinetry with Caesar Stone counter-tops. The garden contains a magnificent covered outdoor 'living room.'
The house sits one block from world famous Abbot Kinney Blvd and Gjelina Restaurant.
