Winter getaway
We had a fabulous time at the house. The drive was not bad, roads paved and not too steep. The kids had a wonderful time playing ping pong everyday. The kitchen is very well equipped and has everything you need. Beautiful winter views off the back porch. The owners are very communicative and available for any questions. The house is very comfortable and cozy. We would love to come back for another visit in the future.

Beautiful mountain retreat
Hiker's Haven is an exceptionally beautiful home. The lounge, kitchen, and dining area are bright and open, with huge windows that look out on the trees and mountains. Shelley and Duane were wonderful hosts, offering plenty of suggestions for nearby hikes, places to eat, and other attractions. And the house was well situated - up in the mountains, but a 15 minute drive to Black Mountain (which is a lovely town) and 30 minutes to Asheville. We would happily return and recommend it to anyone.

Beautiful tranquility
Hiker’s Heaven is a beautiful house in a quiet gated community but closed to town, Asheville, and hiking trails. House is very clean. Kitchen has everything we need for cooking and baking. We stayed for 10 nights. We were there for work/vacation. When people saw me where I was via Zoom, they all commented on how beautiful the house and the view. We enjoyed sitting out at deck every evening with fire pit turn on, having beers or wines and watching the moon rise. Shelly was wonderful hostess and very quick to answers questions. I highly recommend Hiker’s Heaven.

Beautiful mountian view and the best stocked kitchen and supplies I’ve even seen in a rental. House was very clean too. Had a few small issues on arrival and owners promptly fixed them. Would definitely rent again!

The Mountain Getaway We Needed
What a gorgeous home and breathtaking view! This was our first getaway as a family of four, and Shelley and Duane’s home was the perfect setting for a relaxing week away. It was easy to keep our toddler entertained with the toys downstairs and simple to keep the home safe for our crawling 10-month-old, too. And we were more than happy to borrow their pack & play and umbrella stroller, which saved us some packing space. Like others mentioned, the kitchen has everything you need, and the entire home was clean, comfortable and comforting (without all the cluttered cabin kitsch). The fireplace and firepit kept us Floridians warm and really set the scene for a memorable and much-needed mountain getaway. The weather wasn't perfect, yet we had just as much fun staying in as we did on the days that we were able to get out and hike. Catawba Falls was the ideal hike, and we quite enjoyed the magical trails in nearby Montreat. We griddled pancakes, grilled kabobs and grabbed plenty of great to-go meals from restaurants in Black Mountain. And with each land-for-sale sign we passed on the mountain, it was hard to not daydream about making Black Mountain a more permanent destination. But with Shelley and Duane’s beautiful home and warm hospitality, there’s no need to daydream — we’ll just book another visit again! Hopefully in the near future.

Amazing!
We have been taking trips to the mountains for years, each time renting a cabin. This was by far the cleanest, most well-appointed of all of them. We highly recommend it! If ever in the Black Mountain area again, we will definitely look this cabin up.

Beautiful Home and Views
The house is so perfect for a family with kids, toys, games and even ping pong to keep busy with. Fire pit on the massive porch with a stunning view of the mountains and town. Best equipped kitchen I have ever rented, we had everything we needed and more. Host was so nice and attentive, honestly the best rental experience I've had :)

Amazing stay in Black Mountain!
We absolutely loved our stay in Shelley & Duane's home. The house in clean, updated, and had everything we needed for our stay. The kitchen is fully stocked for everything we needed to cook a few meals throughout the week. The bedrooms are comfortable as well. The pictures don't do a justice for the home and especially for the view! The VIEWS! We stayed in December and the leaves have all fallen, which gives you a beautiful view of the mountains in the distance. This was definitely our favorite part of the home. The drive up to the house through the Laurel Ridge community definitely is very steep, but the roads are all paved and lightly trafficked. Close to downtown Black Mountain and not far from Asheville, we loved exploring all of the restaurants, breweries, and hikes in the local area. We definitely hope to come back and stay again at Hiker's Haven! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Perfect
What a great property, so much more relaxing and beautiful than a hotel. The owners genuinely seemed to want us to love it there, which we did! My wife wanted us to take pictures and tell people it was ours. We hope to make it an annual visit.

Beautiful home - we definitely want to return!
Hiker's Haven was amazing! The house was beautiful, with very thoughtfully designed furniture and set up. Shelley was very communicative and her directions for check in were great! The kitchen is great, as is the porch! The bedrooms have blackout shades, which is wonderful and really comfortable beds! Definitely do the Black Mountain Farmer's market if you're in town on a Saturday - we got all of our groceries for a great dinner! We traveled as two couples with two babies and were able to stash the pack and plays for kid nap time also. We loved the few kids toys that were tucked away. Our only downside is that the house is definitely way up a mountain, which requires a lot of twists/turns/time to get down into Black Mountain. We had a few too many outings planned, which made it not so fun to go up/down/up/down the mountain. Next time we go, which we truly hope to, we will plan to mostly just enjoy the house.

Excellent. Its all in the details.
This place is not 5 stars because there is nothing wrong. Its 5 stars because it's earned it. This is a like new, super clean, well thought out property, and it was a pleasure to stay here. Best property we've stayed in yet. Shelley was very helpful and responsive. Great hikes nearby, and beautiful scenery to enjoy driving to the house and around the area. Amazing view through the floor to ceiling windows. Black Mountain is a neat town to be near as well, wish we could've spent more time there. If you have kids, make sure you explore the house right away to find the clever Bear Unwelcome Mats. We highly recommend this property, will stay again if we return to the area.

Beautiful Mountain Top Home
We were looking for a mountain escape that was close to Asheville. This home met all of our needs. We had our mountain escape with beautiful views and could also travel into small towns to eat and enjoy the day. We felt Shelley was always available if we needed any thing or had questions. The house is newly constructed and the area is just starting to be developed. The beds were very comfortable and the house was completely stocked. We are hoping to stay again someday to truly hike some of the trails Shelley and Duane recommend. It is a climb up the mountainside but we had no problems With our two vehicles. A 4 wheel drive and a front wheel car. In the snow you may need 4wheel but without you will have no problems.

A picture is worth a 1000 words- so was the view
My husband, baby and myself wanted a relaxing vacation with a beautiful view of the mountains. We got that and much more with Hiker’s Haven. The chalet is well furnished, cozy and inviting. Although weather wasn’t great and did not do much outdoors stuff, we enjoyed hanging around the house, making dinners and even played some games of ping pong. We had the extra security of being in a gated community. Shelley was very accommodating and gave excellent recommendations. I would not hesitate to recommend Hiker’s Haven and in fact would stay there again in the future if we make it back that way. Thanks again!

I received a cancellation for this VRBO because of the necessity of paving the driveway. While it was a disappointment, the owner has offered to give me a discount for future visits. All details were handled professionally.

Beautiful, mountain get away!
Hiker's Haven ended up being everything we hoped for - clean, unique and a true mountain get away! Located just a few minutes from the center of Black Mountain, we didn't have to drive far to get to restaurants and cute shops! However, once in the cabin we felt far away from civilization and totally stress free! The four of us (2 adults and 2 kids) really enjoyed our stay! The beds were comfortable and we played many fun games of ping pong! We visited Asheville (about a 20-25 minute drive) and explored Black Mountain. While visiting we saw turkeys, deer and a bear! We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this amazing cabin retreat!

Perfect mountain retreat!
I can't say enough about this home and the owners. Shelley was amazing from the moment we were interested all the way through our stay. She was so helpful and truly wanted to make sure our visit was wonderful. The home was immaculate and very comfortable. The views were amazing! We enjoyed our evenings playing games, cooking, watching movies, and relaxing. They thought of every detail. The home was stocked so well and perfect for our family of 5! We can't wait to return!

Beautiful home in scenic location!
We had such a wonderful time at Duane + Shelley's home - it was clean, tastefully decorated and so comfortable. There are board games to play, a ping pong table and a well-stocked kitchen for guests to use. Our boys slept in the little trundle bed nook and slept wonderfully each night, as did we! Duane and Shelley are so kind and responsive if there is ever an issue - I can't recommend this home enough!

Wonderful!
Shelley was very responsive and checking in! The house is new, clean and very comfortable for a long or short stay. When we arrived in March on a Thursday it was 80 degrees but by Saturday and Sunday the temp had dropped to the 40's. We enjoyed the massive and warm wood burning fireplace, big screen TV with all the channels and the great decks. This is a true five! Dining recommendations: Artisan Market for coffee and sandwiches Louises - Amazing breakfast, regulars now!

Why they chose this property

This is our dream part time mountain home. We've been vacationing in the Black Mountain and Asheville area for the past 10 years. Every year we find more reasons to love this region. Good restaurants, coffee shops, breweries and crafts abound, all reasonably priced. We enjoy a day of hiking or fun in the city, and then eagerly return to our tranquil home and relax on the deck or in front of the fireplace.

What makes this property unique

The scenic drive from Black Mountain to our property in Laurel Ridge will fill your senses with nature's beauty. Pastures and the valley are surrounded by mountains, You are likely to see deer and turkeys as you climb the paved roads to our home. You may be lucky enough to see a bear on your drive. Enjoy your morning coffee on the deck overlooking gorgeous mountains. Dine on the deck, or relax with a local beer, appetizers and cool mountain air after a rewarding hike or a busy day in Asheville. Enjoy one of the many local music venues.
