About this property

Family-friendly, dog-friendly gite with pool & views near Cahors

La Provençal is one of two gites at Le Mas des Cyprès. Each is a separate building set around a central U-shaped courtyard with its own terrace set away from the other. The play area and pool are shared.

A two bedroom, detached gite sleeping 4 in beds.

This gite is mainly on one level with exclusive use of a southwest-facing terrace (pergola, Weber BBQ, table and chairs) overlooking the pool, views and surrounding hills.

A side door leads to the terrace and the designated gite parking, and the main door leads to the central courtyard.

The triple-aspect, light-filled living room has a vaulted ceiling and comfortable seating, a flat screen TV (English Freeview and French channels) and a DVD player (selection of DVDs available). There is also a selection of board games and games for the garden. The round dining table extends to seat six and the fitted kitchen is separated from the main living area by an oak-topped bar with two bar chairs. The kitchen is well-equipped with all you could need for a comfortable stay - oven, hob, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, washing machine, coffee percolator, kettle, toaster and all the glasses, crockery and cutlery you could need.

Bed 1: twin beds, oak floor, stone walls, wardrobe, tallboy, bedside tables, lamps and door to the courtyard
Bed 2: double bed, chest of drawers, wardrobe, bedside tables, lamps, fan
Modern shower room: tiled to ceiling, walk-in rainforest shower, single vanity, electric towel rail and wc

Crisp, white bed linen is provided with towels
*pool towels not provided in 2020 & 2021 please bring your own.

The 2.5 acre hilltop gardens include an 11x5m saltwater pool with surrounding terrace - 10 sun-loungers, parasols, solar shower and table tennis. It is sited to take advantage of the lovely views across the hills as well as fantastic sunsets.

There is also a shaded, children's play area with trampoline, swings, slide, sandpit and chalet. You will easily find a quiet corner to have a nap or enjoy a good book.

We are ideally situated between the Lot and Dordogne valleys, with their many historical sites such as two of France's prettiest villages St Cirq Lapopie and Rocamadour; medieval Carcassonne, the pink city Toulouse and the beaches on the Med and Atlantic all offer a lovely day out. The Med beaches are one of our favourite summer holiday days out.

Spend an afternoon strolling round beautiful old Cahors with its winding streets, famous market, restaurants and boutiques. You are spoilt for choice with things to do from vineyard visits and wine-tasting to bastide villages sets in the cliff, road trains (to save little legs!), boat trips down the river or why not rent a boat for the day, waterparks, circuits in the trees, canoeing, or enjoying one of the many walks or cycle trails. The list of endless.

We are:
- 5 mins from nearest bakery, general store and pizza restaurant at Lamagdelaine
- 10 mins from Cahors with its famous market. Just voted the prettiest market in the Midi-Pyrenees 2018
- 20 from Saint Gery with its Sunday morning local producers market, bakery and general store
- 25-30 mins from St Cirq Lapopie
- 45 mins from Rocamadour
- 1.5 hours from Toulouse
- 2 hours from medieval Carcassonne
- 2.5 hours from the mediterranean beaches

Activities are numerous:
- wine-tasting, local restaurants, historic towns and villages
- world-famous Blues Festival in July - canx in 2020
- a night market in Cahors the first Mondays in July & August
- local producers village evenings on Thursdays throughout the summer - a favourite of ours
- canoeing, tree-climbing, rock climbing, horse-riding, boat trips, road trains to save the legs!, the famous steam train along the cliffs at Martel, caves such as Peche Merle with its pre-historic drawings
- there are numerous walks and cycling routes in the lovely countryside

Godt pool område men nemme forbedringer kunne være at klippe lidt i haven. Godt rummeligt hus.

Perfection
What a fantastic holiday my partner,15 year old son and myself had staying here. Perfect location up in the mountains but close enough to civilisation to tour and visit the plethora of beautiful towns and villages in the Lot. Virginia, Maddie and Sam (gorgeous dog) were perfect hosts and are full of useful information on the local area. The gite was really comfortable and the rainfall shower was most welcome in the heat. The pool and table tennis were used everyday by us and we watched the glorious sunsets, glass of wine in hand. We all have nothing but happy memories of our stay here and hope to return again.❤️

Great Gite, great pool, great location.
Enjoyed our stay, comfortable Gite well equipped with spacious grounds for our dog Summer to explore and play with Virginia's dog Sam. The owner Virginia is very helpful and friendly with lots of local information, we visited Cahors, Saint Cirque Lapopie, and Rocamadour, we visited these in the mornings when it was cooler and spent afternoons and evenings relaxing in the grounds and cooling off in the large pool and watching the sunset. Thank you Virginia we will return. Trevor Diane & Summer

Wonderful place to stay and relax
We stayed at Ginny's for the fourth time, again we had a great time. Relaxing in the garden in the sun. Everything you need is in the gite. A real BBQ (Weber) was at our disposal. Unfortunately, It was too early in the season to use the swimming pool. We certainly wil come back in the future. Ed & Trudy

Lovely holiday house for a French experience
The gite was located on an expansive property featuring a refreshing pool with a view. It's close to a traditional French town, Cahors where you can try the local produce such as foie gras. I really enjoyed shopping at the market to take it back to the gite to cook. Great for foodies. Virginia was very friendly and helpful with information about the local area.

The dream continues....
A magnificient and restful stay ! It is the second time when I come and confirm what I had said in April: an adorable welcome (reception) on behalf of the owner Virginia, a big holiday cottage with all the comfort, a very big swimming pool with always this magnificient point of view which you escaped. A single word still tank you Virginia!

Lovely gite in a beautiful setting
Despite seven days of almost non-stop rain, we had a delightful time at La Provencal. Virginia and her darling daughter were the perfect hosts, checking with us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed (we did) and giving us some excellent recommendations of things to do and places to eat since our planned hiking trip had turned into an eating trip! The gite's main room is large with ample seating and a very workable kitchen. The grounds are beautiful and the pool lovely (although it was too rainy to get in it!) with a wonderful view. The location is excellent....very close to Cahors but with a true country feel. We look forward to being able to return sometime and will certainly recommend La Provencal to our friends.

Formidable

Great place for a holiday in France...
Three weeks of PERFECT BLISS... Loved the location, fabulous views across the valley. Wonderful salt-water pool. Lovely two bed Gite very spacious, with all you need for your stay including towels for the pool..! Only 10 minuets from beautiful Cahors, defiantly worth a visit. Easy access to many stunning tourist places, we visited too many to mention. Our host Ginny looked after us excellently, always on hand to give advice on places to visit etc. We would highly recommend La Provençal for people to stay.

Relaxing, glorious spot!
We spent a fabulous few days relaxing here and exploring the area. We are from New Zealand and this part of the holiday was about halfway through - after 8 days of cycling and 5 days in the bustle of Paris. It was a lovely interlude. The cottage was spacious with an excellent shower. The cooking facilities meant we could cook our own dinners and breakfasts which we were very happy to do. The pool got a lot of use. Merci beaucoup Virginia and Madeline. Oh and Sam of course! Karen and Dave

Perfect location, welcoming host, great pool.
We have just returned from a week at La Provencall and wish our stay had been for two weeks instead of one. We received a very warm welcome upon arrival which set the tone of hosting throughout our stay, Virginia was ever helpful and informative in response to the usual requests when visiting somewhere new. The location was perfect for access to Cahors and the beautiful surrounding countryside and the view from the pool equally impressive. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything required including lots of towels for the pool which was used a great deal due to the very hot weather we enjoyed during our stay. In summary, we loved the cottage, the pool, the location, the beautiful countryside and the abundance of historical attractions nearby. We have every intention of returning soon and have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation to others planning a visit to this area.

A lovely property in a stunning setting
The gite we stayed in was extremely beautiful and the owners were amazingly helpful and friendly. The only complaint we had was the lack of Wi-Fi anywhere other than outside the front door - this was a major problem as we were there doing photography work and needed internet access to upload photos. However, had we not required internet access so urgently it would have been nigh-on perfect.

French gites with great views and pool.
As the site is just a ten minute journey from the motorway it was an ideal stop on our way to Spain.we stayed for two nights on the way down and on our return. We stayed in the smaller gite which was very comfortable. .my only comment would be that the bathroom mirror is rather high for someone who is rather short. Great view and swimming pool.

“Poor accommodation, lovely location”
We stayed in La Provençal, the smaller of the two gites on offer, for the last two weeks in August 2014. Family of four with both children under 7. We were unable to use the twin room/children’s room as it is damp, cold and musty/mouldy. One smell put everyone off and given one of our children is asthmatic it was an impossibility. The bathroom was not in great shape with mould in the shower. The gite was tired and in need of a proper clean and some love. On arrival the gite was not clean – think dust behind most things and superficial wiping only elsewhere. We had to give it a spring clean ourselves as my asthma flared up. The hosting is grudging and with no interest in the welfare or comfort of the guests/customers when we told them about the twin room. We were told that no one ever complained or had a problem with that room - which we subsequently found out to be untrue and apparently most had been unhappy with it. The enormous range of rules is the other thing that strikes you – a good number totally pointless, although the ones connected with the pool are appropriate. The gite is run for the convenience of the owner not the comfort of the guests. Should we have just left after the first night? We debated it and looked into alternative accommodation and nearby hotels but wanting a holiday we decided to make a go of it (using the sofabed in the living room as the second bed) and we had a good time in the environment, the setting and views are lovely and the pool was good. It also helped that the neighbours in the gite next door were good fun and had two young kids of about the same age as ours. I would strongly suggest that if you are looking for a place to stay in the South West of France of this type, then don’t go to Mas de Cyrpus in Constans. The setting is delightful and although the gite could be acceptable if work was done on it to make the second room usable, it is unlikely that the work will ever be done. Repeat business does not seem to be a strong feature of the approach and we certainly could never recommend it and would never go back. A shame – great potential, but no concept of making customers/guests happy or comfortable.

Lovely gite, convenient location
Had a lovely two week holiday here with our family (2 adults and 3 kids) the gite was really nice just as described on the website. the children loved the garden especially the pool. It was a great location for exploring the region then back to the gite in the afternoon to relax in the pool. Perfect place for a family holiday in our opinion.

Great holiday home in Cahors, France
We were two families who rented both available houses on the property La Mas de Cypres. We were delighted with stay. Both houses were well-kept, well-equipped and charming. It was quite easy to cook together, as the distance between the houses is short. The distance to the owners' house was shorter than we had imagined, but this turned out to be of no relevance. The biggest plus of the stay was no doubt the gorgeous saltwater pool and the location close to beautiful Cahors with its great biweekly market as well as to other beautiful villages. Our best trip was a kayak/canoe trip down a nearby river. Splendid! On the website it states that Paris is approx a 4 hour drive away - 6 hours would be more precise. Probably better to fly to Toulouse. Altogether we were very happy with the stay and with the hospitality of the owners and would certainly recommend La Mas de Cypres to friends.

The perfect holiday retreat
We have just returned from a wonderful week at this gite and really couldn't have asked for anything more. The property was clean and well maintained and even better than the description. A great deal of thought has gone into equipping it to make it a real home from home. The 'pool with a view' was fabulous and although late in the season, we were blessed with glorious weather which allowed us to fully enjoy it. The location is rural and quiet, with beautiful views, whilst still being in easy reach of Cahors and all the numerous places of interest to visit in this beautiful region. We found the owners very pleasant, helpful and informative. They clearly want everyone to enjoy their property and the area as much as they do and go out of their way to achieve this. We have already recommended this gite to our family and friends and we hope to return again next year.

lovely location, low-quality apartment
We enjoyed the region around La Provençal. We found the apartment itself less comfortable and hospitable than most. There was a new-paint aroma -- so strong, we had to leave the doors and windows open. One bedroom floor was unfinished rock, which made it hard to feel clean.

A wonderful place to stay and relax
We stayed in the La Provençal cottage. It was very clean and very well equipped. The photos on the website and the associated description of the cottage was very accurate. Virginia (the owner) was very helpful in providing us with information about the nearby region. The cottage also has a very complete information package. The location was absolutely wonderful. Very quiet location with amazing sunsets and a great view of the valley. We got lucky with very warm weather for mid-May. It allowed us to enjoy the wonderful pool. Very close to Cahors (which has a great market day). You are also very close to the A20 motorway which allows you to visit some of the sites North (like the Dordogne valley) of the cottage and South (like Carcassonne or Toulouse). Some attractions nearby that you shouldn't miss: Saint-Cirq Lapopie (amazing village) Saint-Gery has a fabulous restaurant Do a wine tour along the Lot river (Cahors wine, which a very dark and delicious red wine). Make sure you visit Cahors on market day. Get the freshly roasted chicken and pototoes! They looked delicious! Make sure you get there early because they sell out quickly. We missed out (went for lunch, came back and they were sold out). We would certainly go back there again.

About the host

Hosted by Virginia Paschall

Host profile image
We moved from southeast England down to this lovely, sunny area full of history and vineyards for a new adventure and to enjoy a quieter life. We rented many gites before and have put in place what we liked and avoid what we didn't like in our own rentals. We regularly update and redecorate our two rentals. The last few years, as well as the standard repainting, we have built pergolas, and in La Provencal - fitted a solid oak floor to the twin room, redone the shower room and replaced the roof. For 2023, we now have fibre.

Why they chose this property

Its views over the hills and sunsets, the quiet yet its proximity to Cahors with the market, shops, restaurants and station as well as the easy access. We did not want a long drive down windy country lanes once we'd left the motorway! During summer there is always a village fete going on with the lovely local food and wine. We love the easy access to the med and Spain - a favourite day trip we do every year is to the med beaches. Toulouse is close-by with its shops and restaurants. We are spoilt with the many nearby activities and places of interest not to forget the lovely weather!

What makes this property unique

Peace and quiet, views, relaxation, ease of visiting local sites and the vineyards. It is easy to find a quiet spot in the garden away from the pool. Or why not relax on a sunbed by the pool with a good book. We love that we are in the peace and quiet of the hills, with a slight breeze which is lovely in the summer heat, but less than 15 mins drive from Cahors centre with its famous market, shops and restaurants. There is a wide choice - of excursions within easy reach and activities such as water parks, tree-climbing, road trains or day trips to enjoy the steam train at Martel, shopping in Toulouse or amble round some of the prettiest villages in France like Rocamadour and Saint Cirq Lapopie or visit the many vineyards and take part in wine-tasting sessions and lunch. We enjoy weekends in Barcelona, daytrips to Andorra for duty-free shopping and our favourite weekend: lunch and shopping in Andorra, an evening and day at the beach then home. We love our annual day trip to the Med beaches.
