Sounds of the Sea 2024

This was a lovely and comfortable property, convenient to Nosara by vehicle, however, over some pretty rough roads. We did get used to the roads. 😊 I spent a month at this property and would certainly reserve it again if I stayed in this area. The dry tropical forest was very different from my previous experience in the rainforest.

Fabulous view. Lots of windows.

We had a hard time finding the property after dark but only 630pm. I recommend a picture of the garage side of the house since that is the first thing you see coming up the road. The infinity pool was fantastic. The house needs a little TLC, but we really enjoyed the outdoor patio. I would stay again.

Wonderful unique home

We thoroughly enjoyed staying here with the family. Views and sounds are unbeatable quick walk to a desolate Long Beach. And so nice to be out of nosara area Ostional is the place to be. Close enough but removed. House has some quirks but easily out weighed by many positives. We (family, 2teens) loved the house, sounds, views, pool, stars and the property management co was responsive and helpful. Highly recommend.

Perfect amount of isolation & amazing ocean, wildlife and sunset views

Perfect distance from beach and with a huge ocean view it feels like you are there even from the house. Watched whales and watched my husband and daughter surfing while in the ultra-well-equipped kitchen making meals. The pool was the perfect temperature and watching monkeys while taking an afternoon dip feels incredibly special. Honestly, the photos will never do the house justice. There are so many great things about this house. We enjoyed every moment.

Life is good in paradise

We could not have been happier! Home was beautiful, clean and everything was in good working order. Grounds were spectacular, the infinity pool was amazing and a beautiful black sand beach was within a 6 minute walk. Property managers & owner were very quick to address any issues that came up. Location was the best. If you are looking for a non-touristy, mostly locals place to visit, Playa Ostional is it. People were friendly, food was delicious, and beach wasn't crowded. We will be coming back.

5 stars!!!!!

5 stars!!!!! Sounds Of The Sea includes a complimentary conscierge with Vacation Nosara. Without a doubt Vacation Nosara was our best friend during our stay. Was available 9am-8pm 7 days a week. Answered questions, got our groceries delivered, helped us navigate from Liberia airport to the house, met us upon arrival at the house, helped us book a last minute zip line trip, recommended everything from shopping to restaurants to a fish stand in a matter of minutes. They truly made our vacation easy. Now, Sounds of The Sea. We stayed here for our 20th Anniversary with our 2 teenage daughters for 9 nights. Absolutely the most relaxing & King Of The Castle vibe of a rental. Views, pool, spaciousness & security systems are beyond what you can imagine. The layout of the home is a bit different that what you may expect but it lends to the Costa Rican vibe. We enjoyed every morning and sunset. If you like to feel secluded yet safe, Sounds Of The Sea is your place.

Relaxing getaway

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at Sounds of the Sea. We went into Nosara a couple days as well as went to San Juanillo Beach twice, our favorite beach in the area. We recommend eating at Sodas as we did and had a lot of fun experimenting with different menu items. We also did a La Leona waterfall excursion the day of our flight home a bit North of the Liberia airport. We recommend a 4X4, the road into Ostional is very bumpy and had to drive through a small stream to get into Nosara. We used Vamos for the car rental and mobile hotspot and have always been pleased with them. Be ready to go over very bumpy drive the last 45 min of your drive, but it will all be worth it. We grabbed groceries in Santa Cruz, which is about half way between Sounds if the Sea and Liberia (75 minutes into your trip).

Amazing house!

My husband, 2 daughters, & I stayed at the house for just over a week. Nothing will ever beat the pool with ocean views/sounds. The layout of the house was interesting & while logistically challenging for people wanting to go to bed at different times due to the way it needed to be locked up, it was still really cool. My biggest complaint is that the house isn’t stocked AT ALL. This is frustrating for people coming from out of the country and the road getting to the house is really awful & slow, so it would’ve been nice to know we should’ve bought EVERYTHING with our initial grocery trip on the way in. We asked if there was shampoo & conditioner & were told yes, but there was not. We had to buy laundry detergent, oil, salt, pepper. We even had to buy our own toilet paper once the initial 3 rolls were gone. There were no small bags for the trash cans (we used grocery bags, so it was fine), there was about 1/3rd a roll of paper towels upon our arrival & none to replace it. There was about an inch of dish soap in the bottle. This is very different from what I’ve experienced in any other rental & it seemed very odd to not have the basic supplies. Additionally, we were provided with 6-7 towels in the house. For 4 people who are swimming in the pool, going to the ocean, and showering, this seemed like a low number of towels. There is a washer & dryer which is great but the dryer only worked a couple times, otherwise we had to spread our clothes & towels out to dry. Minor inconvenience but not a huge deal. The WhatsApp group that the property put together was great & they were very kind & helpful. They answered any questions we had, helped us find fun activities, etc. I would definitely recommend this property but I would also urge the property manager to stock it better. Some people (like us) save for a long time to take a trip like this & then we’re using spending money on things like laundry detergent.

Great Views

This is an interesting property. The bedrooms and bathrooms are segmented from the main living area where you have to walk outside on the balcony to access which I didn't care for. Other than that, the patio, the pool and views of the ocean and sunset are very lovely, dreamy and will provide you fond memories if you choose to stay here. I find myself thinking about it often. The price is really affordable here compared to other properties in the area. Three topics I wish I would have known prior about the Playa Ostional area not related to the property and is due to poor research on my end 1) A lot of bugs 2) You'll need a 4 wheel drive 3) Super Remote where you will need to drive minimum 20 mins each way to get to Nosara the closest town with goods and services that includes crossing a small river/stream without a bridge. Most of the road in this area is underdeveloped dirt road filled with many potholes. It took me awhile to acclimate to the rough driving conditions.

Incredible views

We loved our stay at Sounds of the Sea. The pool and views are incredible. We spent most of our time on the porch and in the pool. It really is a spectacular spot. We received good service from the property management company also. We had a few issues that they did their best to help with and we appreciated that. The house is a bit quirky - with all bedrooms and shared bathroom facing outside. This is probably fine for most travelers but was a bit tricky as we were traveling with a 4 &7 year old. I misread the description and thought the bathroom connected the two bedrooms. But you have to go outside (onto a covered balcony/walkway) to go to the bathroom. The master has a private bath. The only truly disappointing thing about this spot is that the picture would lead you to believe that all bedrooms have a view. But NONE of them do. The views are all blocked by vegetation. The vegetation is beautiful but not as pretty as the views and we were definitely looking forward to the views. The kitchen is well stocked and very functional. The beach at Ostional had surf a few days but wasn’t our favorite for just swimming and hanging out on. We traveled to Playa Guiones a couple times and loved that beach for swimming. Overall we were pleased with this spot and the pool views are as beautiful as indicated.

Amazingly Beautiful and Restorative Retreat!

Our stay at Sounds of the Sea was utterly amazing. Its location away from Nosara and up a little hill made it the perfect quiet retreat away from so many people. Getting there was a bit of a drive, but the reward was solitude. It took about 20-25 minutes to get to Playa Guiones and Nosara where we went each day for groceries, lunches, and beaches. The house was nicely decorated and very clean. We loved the big open kitchen and glass windows allowing for a nice ocean breeze. The kitchen is well stocked with everything we needed for meals and poolside cocktails. The pool was our favorite part! It has the most dazzling happy hour sunset view and our kids loved playing in the water while we relaxed. The house is surrounded by foliage and you can't really see any neighbors. Lots of widllife including birds, iguanas, and coati. Each bedroom has its own air conditioning. For families traveling with small children, you should know that the bedrooms are outside along an upper balcony. Our kids slept in the other rooms and we were safely above ground, but we had to close our doors to keep bugs and the ac going. That means you can't really hear your kids. Ours are 8 years old so it wasn't a problem, but good to know if you have smaller kids. The neighborhood is gated and the house does have a nice security system though. It feels very safe and comfortable. Ostional has a nice tour of the nesting turtles and it is just down the hill. I highly recommend this house! We would love to go back!

Astonishing Beauty!

We are Costa Ricans, but we have never felt pura vida like we did at Sounds of the Sea. The pictures cannot possibly convey the serenity and magic of the location and the view--maybe 100 things to see before you die now has 101! The property is perfectly maintained by a professional, courteous, and attentive management company. We could not possibly recommend Sounds of the Sea more.

So much fun!

We loved the property! It’s was the most beautiful stay. The staff is so quick to answer and help with any needs. I could could go on and on about how perfect our stay was, but you should really book and stay for yourself. We will be revisiting Costa Rica more than we were planning initially. The roads/ travel was tricky at first, but we had awesome map readers and navigators so it went quite well. We all researched the area and learned about the culture etc before we came and we were prepared to not have all things hit the mark., but they did! We wanted to stay longer for sure. We had two couples and it worked perfectly for how the house is set up. There was room for more. The view from the back is amazing. The sunsets were stunning, the people were kind, and they all care about the planet( which is refreshing) . We listened to all recommendations and visited each beach we could get to. Beautiful and perfect! Thanks so much for your hospitality and sharing your country with us . Much love from MN! Thanks for everything!

Amazing view but that's it

Start with the positive...the view from this property is out of this world fantastic. This is advertised as a 3 bedroom property...it is not. It was said the property has internet service but has occasional outages...there was zero internet service. There is a master bedroom, and a Jack and Jill bedroom where two rooms that share a close-like connection space with no doors or barrier. Zero separation or privacy, you could hear sounds as faint as whispering in the other "bedroom" aka other side of the same room where the other bed was located. As 3 couples who had hoped to have privacy, 2 of the 3 couples had no bedroom privacy. The septic tank was 99.99% full resulting in sewage odors in the master bathroom. The outdoor speakers were blown; operational but very unpleasant to listen to. The A/C unit in the master (remote control did not work) started randomly dripping water so do not put valuables under it. There was a modem/router at the property for internet but it did not work, we had to drive to the local restaurant down the road for any WiFi usage...which would have been fine if the expectation was to have zero internet at the property so we could have planned accordingly, versus getting unpleasantly surprised at the complete lack of internet service. Francisco the concierge was super helpful and amazing, great guy, our only main disappointments are with the property being falsely advertised as a 3 bedroom & having internet with intermittent outages...versus the truth...1 master and then 2 bedrooms under the same ceiling and no internet service. All in all would return to the beautiful area but would not choose this property as my first option to stay.

Amazing country, amazing home!

As first time travelers to Costa Rica we did not know what to expect. We had also never rented a home for a vacation. We were blown away by the home, the property and the management of the property. The home is absolutely perfect! The views all around are stunning. While we were searching for homes to rent we encountered more than a handful, closer to the airport, that had an advertised price and once we tried to book them the price suddenly significantly increased. That was not at all the case with James. The price was exactly what he advertised it was. We flew into Liberia and made the drive which took a little over 3 hours. I HIGHLY recommend an SUV if you're going to drive here. We had some unique adventures driving including driving through a stream, driving over a very makeshift bridge, rocky roads, etc. but as a family that was part of the adventure and excitement. The road signs are as advertised, not always accurate. We as a family also made a joke of this, Playa Ostinoal is always 6 KM to matter where you are. :)We ate at La Tortuga, which was delicious. We also made our way to Playa Guiones where we had some excellent meals. If you want a fabulous traditional meal we recommend trying Rosies which is probably the most reasonably priced and delicious meal we had. We also decided, after seeing the kitchen at the Sounds of The Sea to cook at home often. That was a lot of fun for me, the resident chef. There are plenty of places to "shop" for groceries so if you have a bigger family I recommend planning to eat at home. Every morning I had coffee and watched the sun rise which is breathtaking. We encountered monkeys several days in the trees, iguanas in the yard and spiders. We felt very safe knowing we had security in the neighborhood. Each night we would wind down with a cocktail, or two, play the music through the whole house sound system, which we LOVED, and watch the sun set. We were able to see the turtles on the beach and our children "adopted" about 50 dogs on the beach. (they were left at the beach of course). All of that said, if we once again travel to Costa Rica, we would definitely stay at Sounds of The Sea again! Thank you for an amazing family vacation, it was exactly what we wanted and needed! P.S. there are no TV's at the house which was also perfect!

Nosara 2016 Trip N.

The property was just as it was presented on line.

The home was beautiful. Fully stocked kitchen with everything we needed. Sound system throughout the home was a wonderful touch. Views were incredible and less than a two minute drive off the main road. We loved the infinity pool! Our last morning there we got up at around 5:00 a.m. and made our way down to the beach in time to see 3 turtles making there way back into the sea. The property manager, Francisco, gave great directions getting to the property and was very thorough showing us around. There are two small markets about 4 minutes from the home to get the basics we wanted to make breakfast and lunches, and a little Pizzeria but other than that Ostional is a very small and remote community. Don't go expecting shopping or nightlife. You need to drive about 20 minutes to Nosara to get that. A wonderful peaceful restful stay at Sounds of the Sea!

Incredible View

This is a beautiful property in a very small town. Perfect to get away and relax. Mornings on the patio or by the pool, drinking coffee and enjoying the panoramic view was our favorite. It's important to know that the 2nd and 3rd bedroom are connected. This area is good for a family but does not offer complete privacy for two couples. La Tortuga Pizzeria within walking distance has amazingly delicious Mediterranean food. Ask Victor what the special of the day is. The hotel/restaurant within a 10 minute drive offers a beautiful, more formal setting, and incredible food as well. For other dining options and ziplining, you'll need to drive to Nosara, 20 minutes away. The road is very rough but after a while you get used to it. We virtually had the beach to ourselves. Saw a handful of surfers the entire week and just a few others. Peak season for turtle viewing is July - October (best time one week after the full moon) but a few turtles come every night. Stop by the Refuge (next to La Tortuga Pizzeria) and set up a guided tour, times vary. We met at 8:30 pm and walked the beach for a long time. Eventually we found a turtle and watched the entire process, simply amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sounds of the Sea and highly recommend staying there!

Not a great experience

We struggled to get responses through our initial communication with James and in the end never received directions or a contact number for the place. The car rental company gave us directions coming in from the north along the coast which was a disaster due to the condition of the road. Initial impression of the house and property was impressive. The view is fantastic and the pool is lovely but is starting to get worn. We seemed to suffer with a whole series of small problems that became irritating after a while. Air conditioning that didn't work in the kitchen, toaster that was broken, no hair dryer, lights around the pool that didn't work, sheets and towels that were bleach stained, no sun lounging cushions and all the plastic outdoor furniture was broken. In the end it felt like the place was being run as tightly as possible. Everyday there was someone at the house working either doing lawn maintenance, pool cleaning or fixing problems. The final straw was on the last day when the cleaner showed up at 9 and told us we needed to be out by 10 as more guests were coming in. James had committed to letting us stay at the place till 5pm as we were travelling into Liberia that evening.

Gorgeous view! Serene, quiet and comfortable home

Our group of 7 adults, 1 child and 1 toddler, had a wonderful time at this property. The house is comfortable, with large couches and chairs throughout the main living area. There is a spectacular view from every room. We spent most of our time on the porch and in the infinity pool. The landscaping around the house was well maintained, with lots of beautiful plants and trees. Abundance of bird, butterflies, and fireflies at night. The pool was the highlight. It's a great size, well maintained and it feels like you are floating in the ocean with the infinity edge. There was plenty of seating, although some of the poolside furniture had seen better days. There was also a seating area by pool that with nice afternoon breeze, great place to enjoy poolside snacks and drinks. The kitchen was perfect for cooking and dining and accommodated a large group. We had a private cook prepare our dinner the night we arrived, the food was excellent and nice to arrive to a prepared meal. We preordered the menu and grocery list and the concierge stocked the refrigerator prior to or arrival. I highly recommend utilizing both services, especially when arriving, as it is a bit of a trek. We flew into Liberia airport and hired a private shuttle, I recommend this If you aren't familiar with the area, and especially if you have an afternoon arrival. We were there 11 nights and did not rent a car. We used the same shuttle service to take us to San Juanillo for a day trip. We also walked to the local mini-super, pizzeria, and beach (which was nice for walks but not swimming). My husband and his brother walked to the local soccer field every day at 4 pm and played soccer until dusk. The property is private but not isolated. If you are interested in tourist activities, restaurants and night life, I recommend a rental car. One of my favorite things about the property is how quiet it is, with only the sound of the waves. The master bedroom was lovely with king bed and private bath, hot water and great water pressure as long as the pool pump wasn't running at the same time. Each bedroom has a/c and ceiling fan which made it comfortable for sleep. The two other bedrooms are adjoining with a closet space and vanity between, which wasn't ideal for privacy but could work well for a group with kids. Wifi was good but needed to be reset a lot. No tv, which I personally prefer. Overall, our stay was relaxing and enjoyable.

Excellent rental!!

This house was an excellent choice for my week long get away with my wife. It has some exceptional attributes: 1) Safe location. The house is in a gated community. It is close to the nearby towns, but far enough away to avoid the "partying" crowd. It has an alarm and a safe!! 2) Excellent upkeep. Everything in the house was new and well maintained. Typically, there are problems with the AC, refrig, washer, dryer, etc. Not in this rental. The rental was clean. Everything worked. It is well equipped with any appliance someone could want for cooking. Internet worked well. 3) Awesome view. Pool was well maintained. Sunsets are incredible. Lounge chairs and sofas well located. Very relaxing house to read and hang out in. 4) Close to towns with lots of activities. Ten minutes away, you will find surf schools, kayaking, horseback riding, fishing trips, beautiful beaches, great shops and awesome restaurants. This was one of our best rentals in many years. I highly recommend it's!!
