About this property

Panoramic country house with pool in the Sabine hills near Rome orvieto todi

One hour away from Rome in the Sabine Hills I am renting a country house with olive grove (orodimompeo) to people that are looking for an isolated get away.

In the mist of hills, forests, olive groves and rivers this house will excellently host your needs of a peaceful retreat, family time, or historic curiosity.
You will have the chance to explore beautiful nature and historic sites from the house with two master bedrooms, and a large area for lounging and eating in front of a warm fireplace.
One of the most breathtaking parts of this house is the enormous terrace with adjoining pool that overlooks the Roman valley. During the day and night the sites are ever changing and are a reason in themselves to come stay in this house.
If you are interested in renting this house, please take a moment to tell me about yourself and what brings you to the Sabines. It is my personal house, so I like to know as much as possible about who I might be hosting so that we are sure that this is a good fit.

Family Vacation
Our trip to Rome was highlighted by the wonderful vacation home we stayed in while there. The driving to get to the house is a little tricky but so worth it, to be in the beautiful Sabine mountains. Maya could not have been more gracious as our host for the week. She was always available to answer any texts from us. We certainly hope we will be able to return to enjoy this beautiful home again in the future.

An excellent place to stay
The country house was much larger than we expected, the two of us had our own bathroom and shared balcony; there were times we had to shout to find each other! The kitchen equipment was well stocked and there was even a stovetop kettle available which made our morning coffees much easier. The surroundings were so peaceful, you are not overlooked by anyone and the views are very picturesque. There were moments it was so quiet it was the epitome of tranquil. The location was not too difficult to get to but the driveway does have a steep incline which is a given when considering where the place is situated. There were a couple of supermarkets 30 mins away where we were able to buy everything we needed. Maya & Co were very welcoming on arrival and easily contactable. We had some trouble with the water for a couple of days (outside issue with Italian waterworks) and Maya kept in contact and sincerely tried her best to resolve as soon as possible. At night the valley had panoramic views of the neighbouring town lights and in the day, lounging by the pool or on the patio hammock while admiring the view made the time fly by. There was always some sort of breeze that made even the hottest days comfortable. We are considering coming back again as we didn't explore as much as we wanted (I recommend the Terni waterfall as a day trip).

Wonderful house in beautiful surrounding
We stayed here for 10 days and really loved the house in the beautiful region of Mompeo. If you are looking for peace, it’s the right place for you. It’s a very nice and big house and we felt like home straight away. It’s even better than expected from the pictures. The big pool, the quiet location with olive trees and nature all around the house and the incredibly beautiful view from the big terraces are especially worth to mention. The owner Maya welcomed us there and helped us instantly for any questions. A car is recommended to explore the surroundings with small medieval villages or nice hiking trails. In summary we really enjoyed this place. Thank you Maya.

Entspannung in großartiger Umgebung

Great house in a wonderful area
We stayed in this wonderful house for two weeks in July/August. Although it was a hot time it was always comfortable because it was a bit windy. The garden and the pool has a great view about olive trees and the hills. In the evening you can see the lights of the next little villages on the top of the hills. Inside the house there is everything you need. You feel like home. Nothing is missing. It is no problem to go to Rome by train, this is a great daytrip. There are other nice cities in the area, for example Rieti. The contact to Maya was super and we really enjoyed our time in Oro di Mompeo. We are sure to come back again in the next years. Thanks, Maya!

A lovely rural retreat
We had a fantastic week here. In the midst of a super heatwave, the pool was great to cool down in. The property is a home so is beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you might need. It is very private in its own grounds with specatular views. The home was very clean and tidy. There were lovely historic villages to explore, the propery owner was very helpfull in giving us suggestions of places to go and things to do. Thanks very much Maya for a great holiday.

Absolutely Fantastic!
The house could not have been more perfect for our visit! We stayed for a week and enjoyed it so much we wished it could have been longer. We have been to many different parts of Italy and the Sabine Mountains area is now another set of wonderful memories for us. Lots of picturesque hilltop villages to visit nearby and even though the house is quietly situated it was not far to conduct many day trips around the area. Everything was wonderful - actually better than what we had expected from the photos. The views from the patio of the surrounding area are just spectacular - hard to drag ourselves away each day to tour the area and each night when the sunset was over. The rooms were all very large and very comfortable. Maya is an extremely gracious hostess and helped us out so much by shopping for us so we had food for our first night dinner - such a wonderful, welcoming gesture! We really do hope to see her and her family again.

Come to Mompeo. You will never regret it.
We loved everything about our stay in this wonderful house. We stayed for two months and hope to come back next year. The house is quite isolated, but that is what we were looking for. It is essential to have a car and you can rent one in Passo Corese at the train station or in Rome. With three bedrooms and a huge dining table, we were able to have guests come for a week at a time. The kitchen is great for preparing big meals, which is important as there are few options for eating out nearby. The view is spectacular. Surrounded by olive trees with a stunning few across the valley to Mompeo and Salisano, we felt like we were in a painting. There are good places to walk and lots and lots to see in the area. The medieval towns are easily accessible and each is it's own magical experience. The train stations in Poggio Mirteto Scalo and Passo Corese are both about 30 - 40 minutes away. Thanks you so much for your hospitality and responsiveness to our requests. We had some issues with the internet early on, but our host worked diligently to address and resolve this. Come to Mompeo. You will never regret it.

A very enjoyable week in the Sabine
My wife and I spent a beautiful week in the 'Sabine' and this house was a great place to use as a base. We have been to Italy numerous times and every time we come we love it even more. The hills around Rome and all the hilltop towns we discovered on this trip were of unexpected beauty.. an ancient rough beauty. When we got back to the house, we relaxed on the terrace with the most picturesque of views: the Roman Valley seen through two hilltop towns with ever-changing colours.. an ever-changing view. The house itself was wonderful. My wife used to play the piano when she was younger so she was delighted to find sheet music and a piano and played as much as she could. We found an incredible butcher in one of the towns nearby and barbecued the most tasty meat I had eaten in a long time. The restaurants in the area were also fabulous. There were many 'agriturismi'.. restaurants that serve dishes exclusively made from home grown vegetables and live stock. Quite a few of them were also metas of international culinary experts that even I had heard about. They spoke english and were quite international in experience while remaining rural Sabine at heart. The difference in the dishes is unbelievable and noticeable even to a layman like me. My wife and the owner were in constant contact via email regarding sites to see and visit. She was incredibly helpful and quick in replying to all our questions regarding the area. We just might be coming back!

We loved our time in Mompeo!
We absolutely loved our month in the beautiful hills of Mompeo. The location of the house was at the top of one of the hills, overlooking the Roman valley and the views were just breathtaking at every hour of the day. We spent plenty of time drinking coffee or sipping wine on the front deck area (equipped with two lounge chairs and an umbrella to block the hot summer Italian sun) and really loved the views and scenery. The home is quiet and solitary - we didn't see many (if any) other people but had the opportunity to eat a delicious, home cooked Italian meal at a neighbor's home (the arrangement was organized by the property owner). We took advantage of the short distance (1.5 hour scenic drive) to Rome and spent several days driving into Italy's capital for some sight-seeing, eating, shopping and general wandering. Rome is close enough to make for a fun little day excursion. There are also a number of nearby towns situated on the top of hills in the vicinity to explore with great restaurants, cafes and old city centers. However, with a one year old we spent most of the time at the house and enjoyed our evenings outside in the stillness of the olive grove. Only downside was the unbelievable heat during the month we were there - it was obscenely hot and there was no real escape from the heat (no AC in the house so we bought our own fans). We wished we were closer to the beach or a lake or something where we could refresh ourselves and cool off. However, heat like that is an anomaly in Italy (we were told) and at any other time of the year I think the location would be just about perfect. Overall, this was a wonderful way to experience rural Italy. The property owners are gracious, knowledgeable, helpful and unbelievably kind and responsive. We couldn't have asked for more.

Why they chose this property

The house is about an hour away from Rome and since my family lives in Rome it is for us a perfect get away house. What strikes us each time is the breathtaking view at every hour of the day and at night the endless sky covered in stars.
