About this property

Bright top-floor loft in Mile-End

Open-style loft on the top floor of old Outremont building. Big skylight, and windows onto trees. Close walking distance to trendy Mile-End cafés and restos, as well as beautiful Outremont parks.

The space has one queen-size, with the option to sleep more on the couches in the living room.

I live here with my girlfriend, but she has moved to Scandinavia so I let the space while I go abroad. I have been renovating for a few years, and have tried to modernize without affecting the area's natural historical charm.

The space is built around a very large skylight, with large windows giving onto treetops all around. There is no air conditioning as natural breezes do a pretty good job of cooling off the space at night.

Guests can have access to the whole apartment, with WIFI.

I won't be present during guest's stay, but will try to be present to handover keys whenever possible :)

If you like being close to everything but away from the hustle-bustle, open-style loft living but with the privacy of being up in the trees, and old cachet but not to the extent that doorways are crooked -- then this is your place.

This apartment straddles 2 areas: the trendy Mile-End and the manicured Outremont. Whichever direction you chose to wander in, you will arrive at a targeted destination within minutes:

- Hipster Mile-End shops, cafés, restos on Saint-Viateur
- Outremont's stately homes, parks and cafés on Bernard Ave and west
- Little-Italy's farmers market
- Mount-Royal Park's walking and jogging trails
- Plateau-Mont-Royal's storied streets and nooks
- McGill Ghetto's vibrant scene

We're also close to regular as well as 3 organic supermarkets, 2 wine stores, and all other amenities.

Basically, we're central. If walking isn't your thing then there's a Bixi stand at the corner of the street on Querbes (public bikes), as well as easy bus access only blocks away: the 51 on Laurier goes crosstown, and 80 on Parc goes downtown.

Key transfers are easily handled through neighbors and/or friends in the area.

DISCLAIMER: I live with a blond husky. We try our very best to clean thoroughly but unfortunately there is always the odd hair that escapes our clean! As such this listing is probably not ideal for people with acute allergies to dog hair or dander.

NOTE: for guests traveling with their pets, we prefer to not host cats and we prefer to only host one dog at a time rather than pairs or more. Sorry, but two dogs together have more fun but they also tend to bother the neighbors.

Perfect Spot

We had a lovely stay in every respect! The apartment itself was great. We had everything we needed and were very comfortable. The location was excellent in that it was just a short drive to most any place we wanted and also a nice walk to many desirable closer shops and restaurants. In the evenings it was nice to settled down in a quiet, tranquil neighborhood surrounded by large, beautiful trees with views of the sun setting. It was perfect for us!

We stayed during the hot humid days of summer. Apartment was well situated in a great yet quiet neighbourhood. Checkin process was easy and place was clean and spacious for 2 people. Better suited for a couple than friends, but doable and had everything we needed for an enjoyable 3 day stay. Would definitely stay again! Thanks, Duncan!

Great loft apartment for a short-term visit to the Mile End

Bright, comfortable, 3rd-floor apartment straddling the Outremont/Mile End boundary. Well-situated to experience this vibrant and eclectic neighborhood on foot and very easy access to public transportation to explore the city more broadly. Exceptionally clean & well maintained. Doesn't take long to feel right at home - I’d return!

Great hospitality

I rented this loft for my elderly parents while they were visiting me, and they were extremely pleased with their experience. It was clean and comfortable, full of light, and very well located in the neighbourhood. He even welcomed them with a bottle of wine. We would definitely rent the loft again. Thank you Duncan!

Awesome location, beware of parking!

This property is just steps away from great restaurants and the University of Montreal. It's quite airy and full of light. The only negative is parking, and the tickets are $90 (canadian). Other than that - wonderful and the owner is quite responsive.

a beautiful place, but lacking amenities

we stayed at Duncan's place for a week with our 12 week old baby. The location was fabulous and the space is beautiful, if we would have been travelling before we had our baby it would have been perfect, but as our needs were a bit different, i really missed having appliances like a washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and hoover on hand. Duncan was a great host, however, was really responsive and flexible when i realised I'd messed up my dates. Its a great place, just not ideal with a family.

Awesome Weekend Getaway

Well, the ad is accurate and the pictures don't do it justice. It was such a smooth process and easy to communicate with Duncan. The place definitely has a vibe, from the character of the building to the natural light, the living plants and the hardwood floors added character to the place for sure which inspired some creativity (I brought a guitar). I went to a concert Thursday night and managed to take essential meetings Friday with the highspeed wifi, the balcony was a great little spot to have a drink to unwind after that haha, and just perfect before walking around and exploring Montreal both and by Bixi, the bike system. A must-try. So fun and efficient. So much to do and close to all sorts of things to do in Montreal. In fact, it inspired a curiosity to look into possibly buying a place in the area or see about staying again if available. Thanks again Duncan for your hospitality and for sharing your wonderful home. Very memorable stay for a solo traveler like me and would highly recommend it to stay in Montreal.

Superb Location and Charming Apartment

Overall a great apartment.... Pros: tons of light, big beautiful plants, nice layout and efficient for working and relaxing. large bathroom, safe building/area, Duncan was a very responsive host, and we loved the area - different vibes to explore in all directions. Cons: patio furniture needed fixing, some basic appliances not included (TV/Microwave/Dishwasher), we found the bed/pillows a little bit uncomfortable. Street Parking in the neighborhood is not possible. Personally, still rated this 5 stars as all of the cons are outweighed by the amazing area, beautiful apartment, and great communication from the host.

Lovely place for 2 people, great location

My husband and I really enjoyed our four nights in Duncan's apartment. Communication and coordination with him was great, and we felt very welcome and comfortable in his place. The apartment is a beautiful space, incredibly bright and cheerful with lots of plants and interesting things, a well-equipped kitchen, and quiet except for a small amount of noise from neighboring units, squeaky floors (which made me more concerned about bothering the neighbor below us), and occasional banging pipes from downstairs. The location is excellent, close to many business areas and parks but on a quiet block across from a school. Originally, we were to be joined by a friend and her small dog, but they cancelled, which turned out to be just as well as the apartment doesn't really provide good sleeping arrangements for more adults than a bed-sharing couple. (Duncan set up an air mattress in the bedroom, which would have worked but wouldn't have afforded much privacy.)

Lots of light. Too much heat.

Duncan has a lovely apartment in a great neighborhood. Unfortunately, one of the features that makes the apartment so lovely - all of the windows and skylights - also makes the apartment very hot on a sunny summer day. The apartment heated to over 90 degrees several days we were there and there wasn't always air moving outside to provide cross-ventilation. On those days, the apartment didn't cool below the mid-80s at night. Bear this in mind if you're thinking of renting during the summer.

Perfect spot for exploring Montreal

The apartment was perfect for our long weekend in Montreal. We had big plans to spend time in various parts of town, but we fell in love with the neighborhoods immediately around the apartment. So we ended up going to parks, restaurants, and grocery stores within walking distance and really enjoying the people watching and getting a more authentic view of Montreal than simply going to the must-see tourist spots. The small terrace was perfect for unwinding, resting feet, and listening to the sounds of the neighborhood at the end of the day.

Bright, warm, inviting place!

My husband and I were so taken with this space - we loved the airiness, all the wonderful light, all the fun art, and the welcoming feel. The building is quiet and residential, but is close to great restaurants/shops and is an easy walk or bus/bike commute to downtown, the Plateau, or McGill, our three main destinations. We felt no need for a car. The sounds of schoolkids from across the street made us feel a bit like we were part of the fabric of the neighborhood. The kitchen area is quite small but well laid-out and more than adequate for the few meals we prepared. Duncan is extremely quick to respond to any questions, and willingly accommodated our midnight arrival. Probably our only small negative is that we would have loved loftier pillows (and we found some extra in the closet and made it work). I'm only sad that we only discovered this gem just as our daughter graduates and we lose our excuse to visit Montreal so often... Our thanks for a wonderful haven during an otherwise busy visit!

Autumn in Montreal

Perfect location to absorb the feeling of living in Montreal. Multiple restaurants, cafes and grocery stores a short walk away. If you like to walk we enjoyed longer walks to the Jean Talon market and to Old Montreal. Also Mount Royal is a close climb with a spectacular view. It was particularly nice to meet the owner who is gracious and very accommodating and a quick text away for any necessary questions.

Spacious, sun-lit, quiet and comfortable apartment near great shopping and delightful restaurants

For the second year in a row, we enjoyed a week-long stay in Duncan’s airy apartment that looks out on leafy neighborhood trees. Beautifully-kept wood floors and several skylights offer a complement to a mix of antique and modern furnishings, sculptures, well-placed plants, including a beautiful ficus tree in the living room, and art historical photographs. In sum, a delightful retreat. The owner did a great job of communicating - he was accessible, prompt and friendly.

Convenient access to a great part of Montreal

We stayed for a week on our honeymoon and loved our time there. The building is quiet and the apartment is on the top floor, which provided plenty of light. The apartment layout was lovely and open, and was tastefully appointed. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony over dinner one night covered by one of the many large maple trees surrounding the property. The biggest feature for us was the apartment's location. It was mere blocks to a great cafe and middle eastern restaurant, and a few steps more to Avenue Du Parc, where there was a supermarket, pharmacy, and anything else you might need for a stay. A 10 minute walk brought us to Outremont Park, where we read on a bench by the fountain, and just past this was the Outremont Theater and several small, great restaurants. While a bit further, we walked from the apartment to the top of Mount Royal for a spectacular view of the city in the evening. The entire neighborhood felt safe and quiet yet lively. Parking was the only area that was a bit tricky but manageable. Every block seemed to have a slightly different set of rules, and even on a single block, there were different rules for the right and left sides of the street. Just pay close attention to where you park and what the regulations are, but there was parking available. Our host was helpful, unobtrusive, communicative and detailed, providing all the information and answers we needed quite quickly. Thanks for helping to make our stay in Montreal, and our honeymoon, so enjoyable!

Owner was nice, the apartment was nice, and large. Parking was an issue, parking signs are not strait forward had to hunt a little for good spaces. Good restaurants in walking distance.

Nice little gem of a place!

The apartment was nice, clean and quiet. It was in a great location to access shops and restaurants within a few blocks. Cute little park just down the street and walkable to Parc La Fontaine. Parking is a little tricky, but if you're lucky there is parking across the street. Most of the parking in the neighborhood is for permit residence, so double check signs. Bixi bikes are available just down the street, so it's easy to get around the city.

Comfortable, upstairs apartment, within walking distance of amenities ...

Duncan resides in the apartment when it's not rented through VRBO, so it has the feel of a genuine home, not a sterile hotel environment. The flat occupies the top (4th) floor of a modest-sized building, on tree-lined streets, amongst other apartments. It's located 3 blocks back from the noise and energy of Avenue du Parc, an active thoroughfare. We appreciated these aspects of the residence, & its owner's close ties & concern for the orderliness of the property. The neighborhood's especially conducive to walking, both to acquire affordable groceries and other shopping necessities. Another plus are the small parks (Parc Outremont) as well as the grander, Mont Royal trail system that's adjacent–ideal if you're looking for exercise away from traffic. There are excellent restaurants on Avenue Fairmount and real businesses to be found in the immediate area, as this is not an intense tourist-oriented zone. We've stayed near Mile End in the past, & sought it out this visit. We were not disappointed. The fine fall weather assisted, for a key feature of Duncan's living quarters are its generous windows & an expansive skylight. Furnishings are casual & the bed's comfortably firm. Night-time noise was minimal for an authentic working section of Montreal. We were pleased with the stay & will return again in the future. Duncan's an earnest & thoughtful owner/host.

Comfortable Place to Stay in Montreal

This is a very nice apartment situated in a desirable section of Montreal, at least for us! The neighborhood is alive with families, many young children, people going to work, joggers, riding on bicycles, etc. Montreal is a safe city, and this neighborhood feels especially so. We walked everywhere. There is a café on the corner and streets nearby with restaurants, clothing stores, wine shoppe, and much more. You can find what you want all within walking distance. Bus stops are nearby, but we walked everywhere. Parking is a little bit of a challenge, but we found our way. There are spots but these neighborhoods have permit parking for residents so you have to be careful that you don't park your car and forget about it. It's not a big problem but something to be aware of. The apartment itself is very clean, comfortable, and as it appears in the photos. Duncan responded immediately when I texted him with a question. He is friendly and helpful. We had a great time.
