About this property

Comfortable Romantic in high end area, very near to Van Gogh- and Rijksmuseum

The best that Amsterdam has to offer you will find right here, in this lovely home. The outstanding neighborhood and all the cultural highlights that surround it are a true delight. The Van Gogh-, the Rijks- and the Stedelijk Museum as well as the Royal Concertgebouw at just a 5 minute walk away! The Cornelisz Schuytstraat with it's high fashion boutiques, a green grocer, lovely breakfast and lunch places, restaurants, and biological supermarket are a stones throw from our front door. The street itself is a quiet one.

Please NOTE: With regard to Covid19 we take this very seriously and strive for a high degree of hygiene. We can’t wait to welcome you here.

Amsterdam-Zuid, the southern part of Amsterdam is well known for it’s comfortable living. The houses were built with great vision, in broad streets with lots of green and all the modern-day comfort you can imagine.
From the very best museums and shops, the Grand Concert Hall with it’s world renown Concertgebouw Orchestra to the Vondelpark, Amsterdam's main park.

In one of these lovely Amsterdam-Zuid streets, the Van Breestraat you will find our home. It has all you need for a wonderful, relaxing and romantic Amsterdam stay.

In this typical southern comfort two stories 150m2 townhome apartment you’ll find an open fire place, a piano and a wonderful garden to enjoy. All on the ground floor. The kitchen and the guest toilet are located there as well.

On the first floor there are three bedrooms, a master bedroom and the other two bedrooms. Two of them have access to a balcony and one is especially liked by children, because it has a bunkbed, but is also perfect for grown ups.

On this floor you will also find a lovely bathroom, with a tub and a shower. There is a separate second toilet on this floor.

The museum square where you can find the Van Gogh museum, the Rijksmuseum and Stedelijk museum are a 5 minute walk. You’ll also find the Concertgebouw (Grand Concerthall) right there.
Bikes can be rented around the corner, where you will also find all the stores, restaurants and cafés you could possibly wish for.
The Vondelpark is fun for children and grown-ups, there are playgrounds and lovely picknick areas and in summer there are free concerts at the open air theatre and all year round the Blauwe Theehuis and the Vondelpark3 offer great food and drinks and sunny terraces to enjoy.

Trams, just around the corner will take you into the city centre in a jiffy. Public transport is fantastic in Amsterdam. You won't miss your car, I promise. If you are in the mood for a stroll you can get to the city centre by foot in 15 to 20 minutes.

We can’t wait to welcome you into our home where our host will make you feel comfortable right away. The house is suitable for a group of friends or for a family but also for two.

If you would like to know more about this neighborhood, please continue reading:
The Oud-Zuid is arguably the elegant heart of Amsterdam, and is one of the city’s most prestigious cultural districts.
Amsterdam’s elegant Oud-Zuid (Old-South) was developed over a century ago as a cultural gateway to the city, at the tip of what was previously a boggy polder. It’s home to Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum, and Van Gogh Museum – all of which exhibit the highlights of Western art. The nearby Vondelpark – created in the style of an English landscape garden – is the city’s most popular playground and is a magnet for picnickers and visitors who flock in their droves during the summer months to the numerous outdoor performances that take place there.
Oud-Zuid is one of the city’s most desirable addresses, the real estate is Amsterdam’s most expensive and the residents are arguably the most privileged. Amsterdammers dub the area ‘het reservaat’ (the reservation), but you can leave your passport at home – just don’t forget your credit card: some of the chicest boutiques in town are to be found here, notably along the PC Hooftstraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat and Beethovenstraat.

Museumplein – and its vast manicured lawn, a perfect spot for a summer picnic between museum visits – is presided over by the iconic Rijksmuseum, the repository of Dutch culture since 1885. Entirely renovated in 2013, it offers a splendid and arresting journey through 800 years of national art and history, with more than 30 of its 80 galleries devoted to the Golden Age.

To the west, bordered by a street of jewellers and diamond cutters, lies the Van Gogh Museum with its brand-new entrance building and monumental collection of works by the misunderstood ear-lopping artist. Next door, the Stedelijk Museum flaunts its updated design, which brilliantly manages the feat of mixing the classical architecture of the original 1895 building with a new wing in the shape of a giant bathtub without being a nightmarish eyesore. Its restaurant boasts a large terrace where sunny days call for some people watching while enjoying their scrumptious BLTs and a tall glass of fresh orange juice.

Between Museumplein and the entrance to the reservaat lies the 128-year-old Royal Concertgebouw, still regarded as one of the greatest concert halls in the world thanks to its remarkable acoustics, but which is thankfully not above offering the treat of free lunchtime concerts on Wednesdays. As the Oud-Zuid grew and spread, this rich cultural heritage was honoured by naming more than 70 new streets after composers: some world-famous, such as Beethoven, Chopin and Schubert, and others local Dutch musicians who nonetheless have had a tremendous influence on music over the past five centuries.

Lovely home. Charming neighborhood.
Our stay was perfect for our family of four. The place was lovely and had everything we could have needed. The area was super convenient to the tram, restaurants, shopping, the city center etc. Barbara met us a check in and was wonderful. So kind & welcoming. Would definitely recommend & would stay there again!

We didn't want to leave!
Everything about the home was perfect -- location and its proximity to the park, restaurants, markets, shops and of course, the museums. The home itself was gorgeous and we sat around just discussing its likely age and enjoying the beautiful terrace and garden. Barbara, the property manager, made it all so easy both before and during our stay. We would recommend this to anyone going to Amsterdam!

Great home, location, and break from hotels.
During our European trip, this was the only home we booked in the middle of our journeys. It was a welcome break from hotels. Our boys felt it was their favorite stay. Location is away from the crowds, in a great part of town, with very convenient access to tram, groceries, and quality restaurants. Only drawbacks have to do with the construction of the time (steep stairs, small bathrooms), but it's over a hundred years old. Hopefully should we visit again, this home is still available. Thank you

Great Location
Property was amazing and well located. It was an easy walk to Van Gogh museum and easy walk to tram #2. We tried a few of the recommended restaurants and they were very good. We had a hard time with the door lock, but after a few times we figured it out. Property could have had more toiletries and some wash clothes. I guess bring your own if you staying a long time. Overall great house! We loved our experience.

Great Home, Excellent Amsterdam Location
We planned a family vacation to Amsterdam this past XMAS/New Years 2015 and do prefer renting versus a hotel stay for a number of reasons. I have used Home Away/VRBO on numerous occasions for European big city rentals and always a pleasant experience; this experience was the best. First of all the photos on the VRBO site accurately showed the space. (1) The location of the home was convenient to quality restaurants (great Italian one a few hundred feet to the corner-SARDEGNA), wonderful coffee shops, just two blocks to a grocery store while a 2nd all organic market was within a block, and a short 5 minute walk to the Tram. The Amsterdam Tram system is excellent, clean and gets you anywhere you need to be. It is only a 15 minute or so ride to Dam Square in downtown Amsterdam. Van Breestraat is located in the most upscale area of Amsterdam. Whereas we were in Amsterdam for the winter holiday, we did not take advantage of the wonderful Vondelpark which is in the neighborhood. (2) The home is just a 10 minute walk to Museumplein, the area where you will find the RijKSMUSEUM, VAN GOGH MUSEUM, STEDELIJK MODERN ART MUSEUM AND THE CONCERTGEBOUW all within a few minute walk of each other. (3) Good restaurants are within walking distance include Sardenga, The Seafood Bar, Pompa, Zsa Zsa ( a short tram ride to PIJP area of town) and others. (4) THE HOUSE AT VAN BREESTRAAT 138 is wonderful, clean, spacious, comfortable (beds were very comfortable) with all the amenities one needs. The home is a working home and not just a rental place, so the warmness of the home is quite evident. If you rent a car you will find parking on the street in front. On street parking rates are expensive in Amsterdam. The kitchen area was perfect for the two dinners we cooked at home. (5) You are also within blocks of the best shopping area of Amsterdam located along Van Braelstraat and Pieter Cornelilz Hoofstraat (kind of a 5th Ave / Newbury St Boston) where you find all the upscale fashion names. The property manager Barbara met us, showed us all the home attributes, and provided us her contact info in case we needed her and I did text her a few times and had immediate responses. We were provided with a very detailed 5 page document of all the house workings from thermostat / laundry / kitchen equipment and more. Barbara met us upon leaving and I cannot say more of her Dutch hospitality as well as the home owners' hospitality which was evident in the great warmth of this location.

Very close to public transportation. Would return in a flash! Thank you, Godelieve! And thank you to Barbara, the property manager who welcomed and oriented us to the house.

Outstanding
This is not your typical rental apartment. It is someone's personal home beautifully and tastefully furnished. It was spotlessly clean , well furnished and quiet. Barbara the host was excellent in communicating. The location is in one of the best neighborhoods of Amsterdam and all the restaurants, groceries, bakery is within a three minute walk. The major museums are a short walk away also. As some other commenters have mentioned, practice with the door key while Barbara is with you. Once you get the hang of it, it's fine.

We were a group of 4 adults who spent 3 nights here. The property is beautiful inside and the little garden in the back is lovely. The home is also in a great neighborhood with many local restaurants and stores. Walking distance to a grocery store too. Barbara, the rental manager, was friendly and helpful. Bedrooms were good sized and beds comfortable. The bathroom set up is a little unusual. There is a small sink/toilet downstairs. There is another small sink/toilet upstairs near the bedrooms. Upstairs there is also a large bathroom with a sink, shower and bathtub but no toilet. This arrangement was fine for us but not one we have seen before. We would definitely recommend this property and if we return to Amsterdam we would stay here again.

Great apartment! Great location!
We had a wonderful stay at the apartment! One unfortunate issue was construction of the street in front but, of course, that is no fault of the manager and future clients have a beautiful new street! We did have a little trouble working the keys but did get it figured out in a few days. :-)

Lovely home in a wonderful part of the city!
Spent 6 nights here and loved it! This well-equipped home is very cozy and has lots of areas in which to relax. The location is fantastic, away from the crowded tourist areas, but close enough to get anywhere. Lots of restaurants, markets, and shops, close to Vondelpark, close to Museum Quarter too. The tram is a half a block away. The key to the front door took some getting used to, so I'd recommend practicing a little! Loved our time here!

Lovely
My friend and I stayed at this lovely townhouse for a week in early May 2018. Our flight from the States was delayed and we missed our connecting flight and so were unable to check in until the following day. Barbara couldn't have been more accommodating with the changing itinerary. We were warmly welcomed and shown the residence and made to feel at home. She had information regarding the home and surrounding area that were very helpful. The tram is very close and so easy to use, as was the trains that we used for some travels in the area. WeI had no problem finding the grocery store and a local bakery. I have said to many, "Amsterdam is my new Paris". Just a beautiful city and wonderful vacation, made all the more special by staying at the townhouse.

Location, location, location!
This home was the last leg of a tour through the Netherlands and Belgium for two women from Canada. From the initial request through to the prompt return of the DD, everything was flawless. Barbara was excellent at responding to our questions and accommodated our arrival on King's Day, and again for an earlier departure time than previously planned. The home was as pictured and the beds were fresh and comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped and stocked, and the garden was a special treat as it hosted the most wonderful morning birds that sang sweetly as we enjoyed our breakfast (and the little treats Barbara left) We especially loved the washer/dryer after a long river cruise! The location of the home could not have been more perfect for our sightseeing, shopping and dinning excursions. We easily walked everywhere and loved exploring the charming community. We have both traveled a great deal through Europe but absolutely fell in love with Amsterdam, this cozy townhouse and the open warmth of the people. The whole experience was lovely and we felt very much at home. We will absolutely book this property again in the future - next time for much longer!

Clean, private, and centrally located
We really enjoyed being so close to Vondelpark and away from the hustle and bustle of things this trip. Great garden and stocked kitchen for cooking own meals. Easy to hook up an apple tv and great wifi and movie channels. This home was very well maintained and we recommend it to others. Thank you for the laat minute day of booking and good prompt communication skills over email and texts when we needed help or suggestions with things.

A true home away from home!
Our son and his partner live in Amsterdam and we wanted to experience their new city. We picked this VRBO rental from the beautiful pictures and the lovely garden. The house is lovely and very comfortable in every way! Beds, baths, kitchen, furniture, garden, proximity to everything are exceptional! The museums, park, shops, tram and restaurants are very close and convenient. Barbara was amazing with her kindness and attention to every detail. The welcome wine was a nice touch before we got our bearings. I can recommend this beautiful home without any reservations. Although the steps would be a problem for a person with physical disabilities. I hope to return to Amsterdam and this lovely property.

Gorgeous, sunny apartment in a great location
We wanted to be close to the museums, centrally located, in a nice neighborhood. Couldn't have asked for a better result. There were four of us (a family with two grown kids). Barbara greeted us and made us feel immediately at home. Bottle of wine to welcome us as well as fresh tulips! Sunny backyard, beautiful furniture, great location near shops, restaurants and attractions.
