The rental was very musty smelling, We were never told that linnens were not provided for the beds. There were no towels provided. Toilet paper/ paper towels 1 roll of each. no extra trash bags, except for what was in the barrel. Just a bit disappointed I have rented many different places over the years and these things were always provided. Cabinets usually had things left like foil baggies, spices and thing like this, none of this was here.
We had a wonderful time! We were close to the beach and family. The walk along the beach is wonderful every morning and sitting there for sunsets is great. The beach needs to be cleaned of the seaweed that washes in so we went to the Eastside beaches.
Enjoyed our stay there -- great central location for what we had planned.
We enjoyed out stay there but would not stay there in the summer months without air. We had nice cool nights and only used the fans one night. Opened windows were great with the breezes coming through. Thank you -- we found the pepper but could not find salt! Otherwise perfect!
We had our first stay here at the end of June and it was wonderful. The cottage was clean and had everything available for a short stay (pots, pans, full functioning kitchen, etc.). We came with our young children and they enjoyed the backyard with a picnic table and the short walk to the beach. The owner was absolutely wonderful. He was very responsive and helpful. I have nothing but great things to say about this spot! We are looking forward to staying here again!

Biting bugs
The property is as described in the listing and was clean and neat but it had a very strong musty smell. It is located in front of a salt marsh and short walk to the beach.
Our vacation turned into a nightmare because were not warned to close the windows at night. Since this unit has no air conditioning and had a super musty smell, we kept the windows open to let in the cool night air.
We woke up in the middle of the night covered with no-see-ums/sand flies. The screens do not keep them out because they are so small. They were in our ears, noses and biting us from head to toe. It was awful! We were covered in itchy bug bites. I was later told that everyone in the neighborhood knows not to open their windows.
We booked the unit for one week and stayed 12 hours. I could not leave the place fast enough. Owner offered to spray. But it was too late for us. There is no way we could sleep there remembering all the bugs biting us through the night.
If you are renting in the heat of the summer, I would advise against booking a cottage on this street. I would strongly suggest you consider whether it is worth it to save some money renting this unit versus renting a unit with air conditioning.
I will never rent a cottage next to a salt marsh again. Lesson learned.
The proximity to the beach alone makes it worthwhile. Sweet and rustic, definitely can sleep 5, but would be roomier with 4. The property owners are the most wonderful I’ve ever met!
The cottage was exactly as described and expected. The location and proximity to the beach was fantastic. The cottage was well stocked with kitchen supplies. The only downfalls were the outdoor shower was not inviting at all needing some sprucing up, and the closets and dressers were unusable do you the strong musty odor despite dryer sheets and airing them out. I would definitely recommend this rental. Fix the closet and dressers issue and spruce up the outdoor shower and it’s 5 stars!!
The place is dated but clean. Small in size but adequate. No A/C but truly did not need it because of "crosswinds" and fans. We did bring two extra fans which were put to good use. My only concern was the initial "musty" smell. It did resolve for the most part after a few days of constant venting with the fans. One has to remember that this is an older cottage that is close to the water and dated which is likely the reason. I think a dehumidifier would be an asset. I will also add that the mattresses were very old and really should be replaced. But I will say that the location was phenomenal. 4 min stroll to the beach that is easily walkable. The area is also very upscale with gorgeous homes and views. The back yard had a wonderful picnic table that we spent lots of time at. The outdoor shower was fun too. The place was very reasonable in cost for a week. If the above updates were done, I'm sure the owners could get much more rental fees because of the location! With all this said, it is the perfect reasonable unit for a family who doesn't mind a few of its downfalls.
Such a great property, very clean and right by the beach- exactly as listed! Very grateful for Doug who was so responsive and accommodating. Will definitely rent here again.
Very nice location and everything was acceptable condition during our stay. Only complaint was that there was just one, maybe less than a full roll, of TP. There was no other to be found anywhere in the cottage. So, guests may want to bring their own. I ended up being offered a roll when mentioning the issue with the next door cottage owner.
Perfect for our little family of four. We had to rearrange the beds to accommodate two pack n plays and that worked out great. Smart TV was a nice bonus. Easy walk to the beach, very clean. Would definitely return!
Ideal location for our family of 5 adults who spent every day all day at the beach. The cottage itself is a bit tight for 5 but worked well for our needs (especially since we had perfect weather). We cooked out on the grille several nights and enjoyed the yard area to play outdoor games. The location to the beach was what drew us to the property and did not disappoint. The beach itself was awesome too! Clean, bathroom/snack shack right there and people were very good about the social distancing. We would love to return and even take both units next year!
Enjoyed the stay, unit was as described. Would definitely benefit from some window AC units to help sleeping. Unit was clean, plenty of dishes and utensils. Maybe a propane grill?

Location great,
The location was excellent but decor dated and not kid friendly.
We stayed at the property for a week in July. The place was excellent. It is located just steps from the beach and right near a bunch of restaurants. The owners are very helpful and very pleasant to speak with. Would recommend to a friend.
We had a great long weekend at this property. it has a nice little yard and patio that looks out over some conserved land - we saw lots of great birds back there. A very short walk to the beach which was lovely. Exactly what we were looking for. thank you!

About the host
Hosted by The Papallo Family
We (Dave and Marian Papallo) are both from Connecticut and have been coming to Cape Cod for over 60 years. We love it here so much, we even spent our honeymoon on the Cape Cod beaches! We have been married for over 52 years and have five children and twelve grandchildren. We love spend time in our cottage (Unit #11) and take pride in the cottages we rent (#9 and #10). Our children now assist us in the mangagement of the property and we plan on keeping the property in the family for many generations to come!
Why they chose this property
We bought this property because we loved the area and all it offered for our family of seven. We rented Unit #10 for several years before the previous owner put it up for sale. We are so happy we purchased this because our five children loved it so much and now our 12 grandchildren are making new memories here!
What makes this property unique
West Dennis beach is on the ocean side and the snack bar, bathrooms, showers and swings are on the end of the beach where our cottages are located. With the ocean just a short distance in front of the cottages and the salt water inlet right behind them, we loved the cross-breeze that comes through the cottages (hence the name Crosswinds). For larger families (or two families vacationing together), the identical adjoining unit can be rented (based on availability).
