Perfect for stargazing!
We chose this cabin because it is in a dark sky area and it lived up to our expectations! There is a perfect view of the night sky right form the patio area, and the lounge chairs made it easy to lay back and watch the beauty! The owners live in the next lot, but we felt like we had complete privacy. There is a thicket of trees separating the properties and the patio is on the farther side of the cabin, so we felt completely alone. The cabin was roomy enough for us, but the kitchen is compact. We made eggs and bacon in the morning, but it was easier to make use of the charcoal grill outside. There are many options for restaurants just a drive down the highway. There are many nearby area for nature lovers. We took a short hike at the conservation area, but we spent most of our time enjoying the fresh air on the patio area. There are many areas to explore in the yard around the cottage. Many birds, wildflowers, fuzzy caterpillars, and I saw a yellow and blue "Five Lined" skink! We are planning on returning in the fall.

Great hospitality!
Donna put her heart out to make sure that our stay was a pleasurable one. She went out of the way to make us feel comfortable and ensure that we had a good time. Kids loved the donkeys in her farm which was walking distance from the accommodation. Will visit again!

Excellent Getaway Stay
My husband and I had a great weekend stay. We really appreciated the owners' thoughtful touches, the location near many state parks, the timely communication and ease of check in, the comfortable bed, and generally how the owners really went out of their way to make sure we felt welcome. We also really appreciated it that they let us bring our dog and even left her a dog toy and water bowl. Thanks, Garland & Donna, we hope to be back soon!

I don’t think I can speak highly enough of the kindness and generosity of the property owners! They truly went above and beyond during our stay and I’ve never had such kind owners. The place is very quaint and sweet, extremely peaceful! When we need to be in this area again we will always look to stay here.

This place was just what we needed
I am a traveling nurse and my father wanted to come visit. He brought my three dogs, a Yorkie and 2 chihuahuas so I can see them while I am here for contract work at the local hospital. Garland and Donna have been the most best hosts I had come across, ever. I know for a fact that my father will come back to visit as he loved this place and my girls loved the place so much. Thank you!

Unplug and relax
Hosts Garland and Donna were very generous and thoughtful. Treats and toys for the dogs at arrival. Very clean well kept property. Enjoyed the fire at night and the star viewing. Even let us borrow night vision glasses to look at the sky and surroundings. Great hikes close by are plentiful. Wonderful get away.

Family Time
We really enjoyed getting away from everyday life and enjoying GREAT family time. Garland and Donna Riggs(the property owners) were so very kind! They even went out of their way to buy our kids little gifts and candy and also our dogs(who we decided to leave at home). The property was close to many different hiking trails. I highly recommend this property and will come back again.

Honeysuckle Rose-A place for everyone
I was so happy to be able to rent Honeysuckle Rose for 3 days. I am a teacher, and this year has been the hardest yet. My boyfriend and I were looking to take our kids (and dog) and get away. We choose Honeysuckle Rose because of it's reviews and it's location near some amazing hiking. When I say that Donna and Garland went above and beyond, I mean it. We arrived late since we live nearly 5 hours away. Upon arrival, we came to a clean house with chocolate on the pillows and goodies for the kids and dog. Evergthing you need for your stay is here. You can cook every night (I brought my Instant Pot) thanks to a Walmart in a nearby town. We watched movies, played in the yard and used the firepit outside. If you are nature buff, Honeysuckle Rose is about a 10 minute drive to Arcadia. This town serves a junction of sorts since all the hiking is about 15 minutes away from either direction. We spent our days exploring the valley, and our nights gazing at stars. My 6 year old saw her first shooting star (2 of them) thanks to the low light pollution. If you are traveling as a couple or with kids, Donna and Garland are friendly and accommodating. We have every intention of returning to Honeysuckle Rose again in the future.

Lovely, welcoming place
This house and yard was very lovely with all of its decorations inside and out. It was nice to be able to go as a family and have access to a kitchen, bathroom and even living room, plenty of space for a small family or even decent sized family. There are so many ways to disconnect from the everyday hustle and bustle and technology with the multitude of puzzles, games, books and more that are provided at this place. It was clean and very well maintained. I would be more than happy to stay here again some day in the future!!

About the host

Hosted by Garland and Donna Riggs

Host profile image
Garland was born and raised in this area with family history that goes back several generations. His great grand father started the first telephone company in St Francis County and owned the local newspaper from 1913-1937. His Grand Dad was a well respected man that contributed to the Annapolis Community for more than 50 years, which now is creating a walking park in his memory.
Donna is from Boston, Massachusetts area where they met 20 plus years ago while working on the BIG DIG, which was at that time the largest construction site in the USA.
In 1998, motivated by a more simple, slower life style and the desire to spend more time with his daughter, we moved from the Boston area to Roselle, Missouri.

Why they chose this property

We were in the area visiting family and on our way back to the airport we saw this piece of property was for sale and decided this would be perfect.

What makes this property unique

Again we are close to many wonderful conservations sites, wineries, rivers, and as we stated before the stars will take your breath every now and again you can see things in the sky that just aren't explainable.
