First visit to the Lot area

Staying in this characterful house in this beautiful village was like stepping out of time. The streets are steep and winding with a surprise around every corner however if you have any mobility issues all the steps might be a challenge. Many thanks to our hosts Sophie and Jonathan for their hospitality.

Food for the soul

Wonderful characterful property in the heart of Saint-Cirq. The property has four floors: a fully equipped farm-house style kitchen on the ground floor opening out onto the garden (where we spend most of our time); the entrance floor from the street with a bathroom; the first floor with an enormous medieval fireplace you can stand in; and an attic space which is the main bedroom with great views down the valley. The town is every bit as picturesque as the photos suggest. The property is right next door to the best restaurant in the town (Le Cantou) which is both unreasonably good and unreasonably cheap (~€30/head) for what we felt was Michelin quality food. The nearest general store/supermarket is in Tour de Faure about 20 minutes walk away. A taxi trip to Cahors cost us €65 one way.

Super!

absolutely charming

This property is perfectly situated in Saint Cirq Lapopie. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. And the best local restaurants just outside the door. Things to note: it’s 4 stories so be prepared. it’s a bit musty but based on the age of the property this should be expected. we opened all the windows and enjoyed the fresh air. the owner is lovely and very accommodating. we slept incredibly well - it’s a double bed which suited us just fine. Sweetness in an incredible village.

Stunning property in quaint village

Staying in St. Cirq felt as though you stepped back in time. The village was charming as was the property. Quiet mornings out in the garden was a highlight. It was a pleasure staying at Sophie's home. She made sure all details were covered and was incredibly accommodating.

A lovely unique experience

Firstly, Sophie was so welcoming and couldn't do enough to assist us. On top of this, we were touched by her generosity in the gifts of food and wine which she had left for us. She met us and took our luggage to the house whilst we parked the car in the village car park for which she gave us a weekly pass. The house is very special, on four floors, with a unique character we shall not forget. Waking on a sunny Sunday morning and seeing stunning rooftop views over the village was amazing. We particularly liked the kitchen, with its character and direct access to the garden. It's very well equipped and user friendly. Sophie's generosity was evident throughout the house - we wanted for nothing. The streets of St Cirque are steeply graded which kept us fit and allowed us to eat lots of ice cream! It's a beautiful village with so much character and history. There are lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. The people are very friendly. There is no bakery as such but a bread depot, selling baguettes and delicious croissants and cakes (open from 9 am). The church is used for concerts etc. and we enjoyed attending one which was excellent, being a piano and accordion duo. There are boat trips on the river along to the next village, taking in delightful scenery, especially the unique rock formations and caves. You can do a round trip or walk back along the tow path with its overhanging cliff shelter. Cahors is about an hour away and worth a visit. Altogether, a delightful stay and highly recommended.

Tolles Haus in tollem Ort
