Great place to stay

Fantastic view through a large window of the Tennessee river. Nice soft sheets and towels. Compelling photos and prints on walls. Fascinating history of the place. Enjoyed the reading material. Kind host. We’ve stayed here twice. Would definitely recommend.

Great place to relax and enjoy the view!

We spent two nights to enjoy the sights around Muscle Shoals (of course the music studios) but our favorite was the Birthplace of Helen Keller. Great tour of her home and the story of her and Anne Sullivan. The house was extremely quiet and I enjoyed some book reading.

lake view getaway, close to everything

Peaceful, stress-free couple of days exploring the music history of Muscle Shoals and hiking in the area. The house was a welcome retreat at the end of the day; we watched boats go by, walked in the neighborhood, relaxed. Plan on coming back soon!

Relaxing Getaway

We had such a nice time at this property. Clay was incredibly accommodating and so kind. We had everything we needed during our stay. Clay has gone out of the way to make sure all of the little things are done correctly. We felt right at home while staying here and know where to bring friends to explore this fun and historic area.

Awesome View

Spacious and clean property. Had everything we needed. The view was awesome and Clay was great to work with. Caught a ton of fish and made some great memories with my boys. If you need a place to stay this is it! Room for the boat too which was a huge plus!

The location was great with a wonderful view of the Tennessee River.

I had a great stay in the Muscle Shoals area. There was so much to see and do. This home was the perfect place for me to book since I was very interested in touring the Fame and Muscle Shoals Sound Studios after watching the documentary film. Clay was a great host and very helpful with ideas of things to do. I wish I could have stayed longer.

Great location very nice and very clean

I was surprised the owner was also living there while we were renting, so that was odd for us. They were downstairs and we barely saw him, but it was still a little awkward for us.

Fantastic view

We loved this place! The views were awesome. Beautiful sunsets. Even when it rained we still enjoyed the views from the picture window. Relaxing to watch the boat and barge traffic. Quiet and relaxing neighborhood. The house was great. Had all the amenities. Even had snacks and breakfast items. Close to restaurants and lots of things to see and do. Clay was very nice and accommodating. We loved our stay!

Dated

I was unable to make the trip but my girlfriends had a few issues-the home was not ready for check-in, the dishwasher was full of hats (not a typo), the kitchen was dated and needed - utensils, glasses, etc. the beds we're comfortable and the memories will last them a lifetime!!

Nice house, great view, attentive but quiet owners live in basement.

This ia a nice, clean, quiet place at the end of the street overlooking the TN River. Close to lots of music attractions and also the Natchez Trace. My only complaint would be the shortage of dishes, silverware and cookware. We had plans to cook most of our meals for the four of us but found it to be quite a challenge. No worries if you're planning to eat out most of the time.

Lovely older home

This property is an older home on a fabulous lot. The home sits high on a bluff overlooking the Tennessee River. The view is spectacular! The home is an older home with good bones. The inside is a bit dated, but functional. The beds were comfortable. One bathroom is quite large, the second bath is smaller with a small shower. A larger person would struggle with using the shower. Overall, the home was comfortable and met our needs for the few days we were there. And the view cannot be beat!

Not as the pictures online!

Never received any check in instructions so had to ask about codes to get in. There were no chair pads on the few chairs on patio. No wicker chairs or flowers and no grill as in the pictures. Messaged Clay about these and he said they did not have any and then asked if we would feed the cat! The next day he did bring some pads for the chairs and 2 small Webber grills that were rusted. The outside fire pit was in terrible shape and the furniture for it were too dirty to use. We were looking forward to a fire but could not have one because of its poor shape. There was a basket of snacks in the kitchen but most were expired! There was a lot of food left in the frig upstairs and downstairs as well as both freezers. There was mold in the downstairs shower and the downstairs smelled like old cooked food. There was a several personal items (bicycle, suitcase, etc) left around. It was obvious that he just left the house he lives in for us for the time we rented for and not in very good condition. This is all too bad because the view is awesome. Clay was attentive to my txts during the stay. Be warned, this house is not as described!

Stunning View

The window in the den provides an awesome view of the TN river; that is this homes best asset. We loved the electric reclining sofa but there were 4 of us and the sofa and one chair were not enough sitting. I was disappointed in the kitchen; we opted to eat out all of our meals except breakfast. The one Teflon skillet needs to be replaced and it was too big to prepare my 2 egg whites + one whole egg. So I thought that's okay I will microwave them; but the microwave is not working properly. it took about 6 minutes to get my eggs done. also the kitchen needs a deep cleaning, new pots and pans and dishes. the bathrooms were supplied with soap and shampoo and plenty of nice fluffy towels. But the bathrooms could also use a deep cleaning on the floors and around the baseboards. The beds were okay. In the blue bedroom the ceiling fan only seems to have a very low speed. the exterior of the home needs cleaning; the eaves are full of dirt dobber nests and spider webs. I was disappointed that there wasn't more memorabilia in the home about the musicians that had stayed there. The location was perfect for our fishermen who were launching at McFarland Park across the river. the home is very convienent for shopping and restaurants. I do hope I haven't offended you; but I felt that you might need some honest feedback.

About the host

Hosted by Clay Mize

Host profile image
My roots run deep in the southern soil. My ancestors often found themselves in a fight. They were in the middle of the Revolution, at odds during the civil war and together again for WWI and II. Ty Cobb and Johnny Mize called my great-grandfather Uncle Billy.

My father was born in a log cabin. By age seven I understood the meaning of a long row to hoe. In Alabama, playing football is what you do if you want a girlfriend. I got more education than I knew what to do with, while my real education came after going to work.

In addition to the family farm, I worked as a furniture assembler, lifeguard, paper boy, waiter, cookie salesman, and oil field roustabout. Other names I held along the way are baby brother, friend, teammate, quarterback, Christian, entrepreneur, professor, talk-show host, landlord, writer, and coach. Some paid better than others. Now I do what I please and it pleases me to manage a couple B&B’s, coach tennis and write, though I still have a dream or two I am cogitating.

A few years ago, I turned away from the financial engine that had been good to me. We helped thousands and paid millions to families in need. I wasn’t fully aware of my desire to go in another direction, but I now understand I wanted a greater return on my time and energy. I could only find this by investing in children, building community and sharing important ideas. The remuneration is an other worldly form of compensation.

I am working on a new novel. If you read one of my books and don’t get an idea that is worth 100 times the cost of the book, I will send you a refund. Let me know at Claiborne.mize@gmail.com

Same goes if I speak to your organization.
