Annual Gathering

We are a group of women who went to school together in NJ, and now gather annually. We are seasoned, short stay renters. We have seen everything from worse than expected to astonishingly posh. This VT house is a lovely, old family home. It was like returning to Grandma’s house, except now we’re the Grandmas. The house could use some targeted refurbishing, as appliances and furnishings are worn. That said, it’s very comfortable. It felt like a warm hug, and the backyard is terrific. Our biggest recommendation is that the Owner (who is lovely and responsive) should provide a clean and empty fridge. After our shopping, we had a hard time figuring out which stuff was ours vs. hers or her family’s. We do recommend the home for anyone who wants a homey place to stay while snuggled under a throw and wearing sweats in front of a fire.

Charming farmhouse

We had such a blast here. Plan for a slow vacation. Fires in the kitchen and the living room. Board games. Challenge your family members for the "best dinner" award. Sneak over to Mt Snow for some skiing. Sure, it comes with free firewood, a million bedrooms (I think six), bathrooms everywhere, a highly functional kitchen, and a terrific host who left us a basket full of yummy goodies. But the reason to rent this place is its character. It's just got that old country farmhouse feel. I hope we come back next year!

Terrific stay in a one of a kind location

Our stay at the Townshend property was splendid. It felt more like being a guest of a family member or dear friend than your typical rental. The residence was clearly home to many wonderful memories (with ours now layered somewhere on top). The owner was warm, communicative, and clear about arrival, stay, and departure. Highly recommended and would be delighted to stay again.

Quaint, historic home

We enjoyed our girls weekend retreat in this quaint and historic home! It has an expansive yard, perfect for stargazing and croquet. The house is convenient to farmer's markets and state parks where we enjoyed hikes and walks.

Lovely Historic Farmhouse

We enjoyed our stay in the lovely historic farmhouse which is located in a beautiful scenic area of Vermont. The house is full of beautiful antiques and relics. We absolutely loved the fire place (hearth), that was used every day after skiing at Magic Mountain. My kids thought the house was one big adventure and were sad to leave. The host is very welcoming and provided us with a really kind and thoughtful selection of treats and other goods to ensure a comfortable stay. She was also very communicative and provided me with excellent advice for the area. The house also boasts a cool selection of magazines and CDs. This is an older home, so if you are looking for a modern ski chalet, this isn't it. But if you want to be cozy, charmed and brought back in time while in the countryside, then this is the rental for you. The house was very clean but note that since it is a farm house in the country, you may encounter some furry creatures on the property as well as spot horses, cows, goats and other farm animals along your drives to and from the house. It was a nice change of scenery for us!

Wonderful and cozy

Big, wonderful, cozy. Loved the fireplace in particular and host was incredibly helpful. Also, there’s a grocery just down the road and only a short drive to the ski slopes x

A Charming Spot!

We spent the holidays together here and were delighted with our experience! The overall layout provided enough space for 4 'family units,' one with 2 little ones. The living room space boasts an amazing fireplace, with a wonderful wood pile in the barn to keep it going. We dined together in the wonderful dining room; cooking in a cozy kitchen space. Lots of outdoor time hiking in the area and also outside the back door and down by the river behind the house. It's a charming farmhouse that has been well loved, which is exactly what we were looking for. The host was responsive and left us some welcoming treats. It was a fabulous way to close out a crazy year.

unique space

the property had a lot of space inside and out and was roomy and comfortable. it was farther away from the ski areas than we wanted, but had the most space available for us at the time. oddly, there was food in the refrigerator and many of the storage spaces were filled with someone else's belongings when we arrived which was problematic because for a week stay, we had a lot of clothing and gear. the barn was cool to store stuff in, but the house was generally an older place with older furniture and thus a challenge for cooking and storing groceries, but it was a fun place with a lot of unique characteristics

A charming country home, perfect for any getaway

This was a wonderful "base camp" for our annual ski trip. We're a close group of friends, but there was plenty of space for all of us to have our privacy — not to mention comfortable beds and multiple bathrooms. The setting is quaint and charming. The kitchen is equipped to make enough food for everyone to gather around the large dining-room table. And the fireplaces thawed us out after a long day of skiing. Definitely recommended!

Traditional New England Farmhouse delivers on charm, convenience and efficiency

We had three adults and two young boys (age 10) who had a wonderful three-night stay in this cozy, convenient farmhouse. Modern necessities complemented old-school charm on the inside and 30 minutes to Mt. Snow for those of us who skiied. Perfect setting and I highly recommend for anyone who wants a genuine New England experience. Attention to detail by the owners was icing on the cake!

Wonderful stay at charming New England house!

We had a great time, which started with the good care shown by the owner (clear directions, clean house and an arrival package). The house has a lot of space, while every room has its own character and lots of New England-charm. If you are looking for a luxuruous and up-to date house, this might not be the best fit, otherwise I would recommend it strongly!

Great house with lots of character

We had a wonderful time staying in this farmhouse. It is a very unique property with a lot of character. There were enough beds for everyone, cozy fireplaces, and it was conveniently located near Bromley, Stratton and Magic Mountain.
