About this property

As seen in The Times 'Top 30 Cosiest Cottages in Britain' 2015

Ancient timbers, beautiful brickwork, a vaulted ceiling, old Persian rugs on a stone floor , comfy leather sofas in front of the log-burning stove – just some of the charms awaiting you in the Barn at Logmore Farm.

It’s a big space. It’s a library, a snooker room, a dining room and sitting room all in one. The compact open plan kitchen is fully equipped. And each of the three beautifully furnished bedrooms, (one downstairs, two upstairs) has its own private bathroom or shower-room.

But that’s just the beginning of the Barn experience. Walk outside to find our medieval farmhouse, built in 1464, and you’ll discover you are surrounded by farmland and the amazing woodlands of the Surrey Hills. With nothing other than horseriders, walkers and the odd cyclist passing by, Logmore Farm is a rural escape where you’ll meet a host of wildlife, from badgers and deer, to our very own ducks, doves and bees, and even the enormous carp in our pond. It’s a different world , yet so close to Westcott village and Dorking town.

Fabulous hosts and gorgeous location
First time to this property and it certainly will not be our last. Our hosts Richard and Gay were so welcoming, gave us lots of ideas for places to visit. Made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay a fabulous one. We were a group of 6 ladies and found there to be plenty of room. Highly recommended.

Beautiful location, wonderful hosts
We spent 3 glorious autumnal days in this charming little cottage. It’s even better than in the pictures and in such a gorgeous location. Richard and Gay really are the sweetest people and went out of their way to make sure we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The children loved Boris (theair very gentle dog) and feeding the hens, collecting their eggs and picking apples from the orchard. In the evenings we sat outside and watched ponies trekking past. Everything about our stay was simply wonderful and we are so thrilled to have found this hidden gem, just an hours drive from London. We can’t wait to return as we now want to see the beauty of Logmore Farm through all the seasons!

Beautiful setting
Lovely accommodation - very clean and comfortable and a beautiful setting. Very small kitchen but still able to cater for 6-plus. A great base for lovely walks.

Beautiful and relaxing
We had the nicest 4 night stay at the Barn in Surrey! Richard and Gay were lovely hosts. Our 2 kids thoroughly enjoyed looking for chicken eggs, petting the horses, running around and playing with Boris (their golden retriever). The 4 adults in our group enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and the hiking trails accessible from just outside the gate. The 6 of us fit perfectly in the Barn and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Thank you for the wonderful stay!

The perfect getaway in the most beautiful part of surrey
The property is located in an ideal location for walking and sightseeing and yet is also close to Dorking and Guildford. Many good pubs with great food close by. The main living area is warm, spacious and comfortable and perfect for socializing, we certainly found this property and location to be a real holiday; we all came away relaxed and pleased with the experience, a definite venue if we decide to get back together in this part of the country. Highly recommended.

Wonderful and relaxing stay
We stayed at Logmore Farm for 5 days and every single day was a joy for both of us, our daughter and 2 grandsons. 3 bedrooms ensuite, pooltable and beautifully decorated place. Nice atmosphere because of the building, the surrounding area's and the welcoming landlords. We will come back with our granddaughters within a few years. Guido & Marijke

Amazing week at a fantastic location and hosts - an absolute treat in all regards
We had an absolutely fantastic time! It is a truely hidden gem and if possible we would give it 6 stars. It is more expensive than some alternatives that look similar... but nothing we have seen can match the surroundings, setting and character on offer... and the hosts! Don't really want to share too much more - go there and get an unforgettable week. Perfect for anyone who wants a quiet time, be active (trails and walks), have children (feed hens and fish, play in the field... go discover!)... or just enjoy looking out out over the grounds in the evening, with pheasants, horses, sheep ... in the background. We will most definitely come back!

Beautiful Country Retreat
My family loved staying in Richard and Gay's converted barn in Surrey. The place was clean and airy and beautifully decorated. The main room is spacious with several couches, a large dining table and a pool table. The bedrooms are not large but each one has its own bathroom, which was an added bonus. The barn is nicely appointed and comfortable but the grounds and the surrounding area is what make this place really special. The countryside is gorgeous and the gardens are wonderful. There are horses, chickens and ducks on the property and even an adorable puppy, who we met far too late in our visit. There is a walking/riding trail that goes right by the barn, which we took for a nice hike over the top of the hill. We also spent some time in London, which is not far away, but was a bit of a challenge to get to because of the traffic. Next time we would explore more of the Surrey Hills and the countryside. Richard and Gay were wonderful and helpful and we wish we could have had more time to get to know them. I guess that will have to wait until our next visit!

Beautiful barn....ideal accommodation.
We were warmly greeted by Richard and Gay and their adorable puppy Boris. We were given a quick tour of the barn and then left to explore all it had to offer. Well stocked with books and cd's. A small television, which we didn't use, because we had the snooker table which encouraged lots of games, ideal for everyone. The accommodation was very well presented, clean, tidy and warm. All the bedrooms had an ensuite. The outdoor space was a real pleasure, we sat round the table enjoying the wine we brought back from our vineyard tour at Denbies Vineyard. Just out of the gate by the barn gave you immediate access to lovely walks in the woods and to excellent pubs nearby. No need for the car! Richard and Gay were on hand if we had any questions or just to chat about the area. They were friendly but gave you your own space. We would not hesitate to come back to the barn again.

The property was absolutely beautiful and so child friendly. It was comfortable and warm.
We were over for my son's wedding in Wotton House and spent a few days beforehand in Logmore Farm, which was only 10 minutes from the venue.. It was ideal for chilling out and my grandchild loved it with the space to run around and all the animals. We were able to entertain as there was plenty room and the couple that owned the property, Richard and Gay were lovely and couldn't do enough for us. I would love to go back. It's so peaceful giving you the best of both worlds - the feeling of being in the country whilst the town of Dorking is only a 10 minute drive.

Unforgettable stay in the Surrey Hills!
The Barn at Logmore Farm was the perfect venue for our family to celebrate the week between Boxing Day and New Year's. The owners were so hospitable and welcoming - we couldn't have asked for a better place to spend family time. The log fire, Christmas tree and twinkly lights added to the festive atmosphere. We would totally recommend a stay at The Barn - and we hope to go back again soon!! If you like solitude, country walks, lovely pubs and peace and quiet: this is the place. Our family rates it 10 out of 10!

Long weekend for the Flower Show.
The property is much like how it is described on the web site. Lovely location and fits in with its setting well. Very comfortable with all utilities and appliances working as they should. The weather was ideal enabling al fresco dinners in the splendid garden. Gay and Richard were both hospitable and helpful (Richard the navigator). The fresh eggs were most welcome especially the ducks'. We were there purely as a base to visit Hampton Court Palace this time but The Barn would serve well to investigate area too. Thanks to you both.

Great place, we really enjoyed the Barn at Logmore
My family and I had a fantastic time at the Barn at Logmore! After traveling overnight from the States, enduring a long wait at the rental car office at Heathrow and then the drive down to the barn we could not have wished for a warmer welcome from Richard and Gay. We were given coffee and biscuits and a tour of everything we needed to know about the property. They even arranged for us to have a meal the evening we arrived which was extremely helpful considering jetlag. The barn was beautiful and large enough for four adults and two children (aged 4 and 7) to live comfortably for a week. Our girls were offered the opportunity to visit with the animals on the property and were thrilled to collect duck eggs and meet the family dog, Oscar. The paddock at the back of the barn was great for the kids to run around and play in, and we really enjoyed feeding the fish in the pond. I think that our favorite activity during the week was just sitting at the patio table outside drinking tea and reading the newspaper, it was really nice and relaxing. I thoroughly recommend the barn at Logmore to anyone looking for a location which is quiet, friendly and relaxing. Our family had a great time.

A Slice of Idyllic English Countryside
If you are looking for an idyllic English Country setting, a beautiful converted barn and the warmest of hosts, Logmore Farm is the place for you. After 10 days staying in the barn as a family of 4 we can only say that we wish we could stay longer. From the minute we arrived, we were greeted by Gay and Richard with warm smiles. Nothing is ever a bother for them, from freshly laid chicken eggs delivered to the door in the morning to Gay's impeccable maps to keep you on the right track when walking in the beautiful Surrey Hills. The warm greeting was matched and raised by the feeling we had as we settled into the perfectly designed barn. It is so rare to find a old farm house where all of the best of the English country living (roaring fire place, exposed brick and beautiful old beams) is complemented by all the comforts you could ask for (powerful hot showers, great kitchen (small but absolutely adequate for cooking for a family and entertaining) and insulation that kept us cold-shy Aussies toasty all day and night long). We have travelled the length and breadth of the UK from impressive manors to cute B&Bs and nothing compares to this beautiful little secret barn. If Logmore Farm was a hotel, it would be 6 star!!

a splendid holiday recogmendation
We spent several relaxing holidays in the barn with Gay and Richard Carlisle. They are the most hospitable, loving and caring hosts. We enjoyed so much staying with them that we like to return every year. Our children (5) enjoy the surroundings very much, the egg picking, putting the chicken to bed, applepicking, woodchopping, and a lot other activities. We had nice walkes in the forest surrounding the barn, picknicks in the filed and we also found a hut in the woods and lunch at the local pub. The house is very nicely designed and was perfectly clean. When we arrived, Gay had baked a very nice cake, which she tought my oldest to bake herself. The rooms are nice, we slept very well in the beds with soft romatic linnen. We had loveley wether and made bbq´s Gay and Richard were always available to help us in any way. it was just great! thanks!

Idyllic Weekend Retreat
I stayed at The Barn with 3 girlfriends looking for a chilled and peaceful weekend. We couldn't have picked a more perfect spot. Nestling deep in the Surrey Hills, The Barn is as idyllic as you could hope for. Lovely walks with access to The Greensands Way to Leith Hill a stone's thow away. Dorking town is only 10 minutes drive, and Denbies Vineyard is well worth a visit. The Barn itself has been beautifully converted. All bedrooms are cosy and comfortable, and all ensuite. I slept too well to hear the owl hooting and the cows calving! Very warm, clean and tidy, with stacks of books and games available. We expected to have problems with the size of the kitchen, but there is a full size fridge, oven, hob and microwave. All very cleverly fitted in. There is a lack of work surface but it just meant we had to clear up as we went - no bad thing! The woodburner made for a very relaxed post roast Sunday afternoon Richard and Gay could not have been more accommodating, greeting us with a substantial basket of goodies and on hand if we needed anything. Their beautiful house is right next door so not the place if you want complete privacy but absolutely no problem for us. Like others, I hesitated to write this lest the Barn should be fully booked next time I want to stay!

A Perfect Place for a Holiday!
My family and I had such a wonderful time when we stayed at the Barn last July 2010, that I thought I'd visit on-line to reminisce a bit. When I saw the review posted by Mr. Falkirk on August 26, 2010, I felt I had to write a review to encourage prospective readers and potential travellers to not feel any reservation about staying at this wonderful getaway. I am only sorry that I didn't write my rave reviews sooner after our stay. Richard and Gay Carlisle are the nicest, most hospitable hosts you would ever like to meet. Their Barn is in immaculate condition, very clean, very spacious, and perfect for a party of 6 (3 adults and 3 small children, ages 3, 7, and 9). We had no issues, whatsoever. We felt welcome the moment we arrived and were sad to leave when we had to head back home to America. I encourage anyone considering a visit to England to stay at the Barn, in Surrey. It's nestled in the hills, about 40 minutes South of London, and possesses some of the most beatiful walks and drives you've ever seen, with bridleways, bi-ways, and trails all-around. You can't beat the location for easy walks or bike rides to friendly pubs and magnificent vistas. The Barn is a terrific travel base for day trips to anywhere in the South of England and a warm and welcome place to return to after a day of sightseeing, Only one point of caution for families with small kids... With ducks, horses, chickens, and the Carlisles' friendly dog around, the kids won't want to leave. ; )

The perfect place to have a break
It was so nice to come back to a wood stove in the evening. The place is very comfortable with each bedroom having separate washing facilities. The owners were very welcoming, I would recommend staying here to anyone looking to spend a few days in beautiful countryside.

wonderful escape
We had an absolutely refreshing and enchanting escape here. The barn is beautiful, set in a hidden area of countryside (it is hard to believe London is not so far). Our 3 young children were delighted with the chickens, ducks and horses. It was perfect for us all as we loved the woodland walks and outdoor life. The owners were warm and welcoming and couldn't have done enough to help us enjoy our stay. The barn was clean, tastefully decorated and comfortable. The children even had their own bathrooms upstairs, a real treat! There was plenty of space for the them to play downstairs too and we could cook, chat and enjoy the barn together in the open space. Just what we needed, to escape our busy lives and spend time as a family. We will definitely go again.

Don't tell anyone...
Not sure I want to write a review for this hidden gem as I don't want anyone to discover it. Location is breathtaking. The barn is cosy, beautifully kept and clean and Gay and Richard could not be nicer and more accomodating. They have always made sure we are welcome as if we were one of their family. It might too nice for some people so I would recommend not going there so that we can go there whenever we want! We are now on our sixth visit....enough said.

some things to watch out for
This barn is secluded and requires good transport to get any where beware if you are a family looking for a holiday (unless you like walkirg/cycling/horse riding) it is not suitable for someone in a wheelchair as the driveway is made of pebbles and although you are alowed to pick up and drop of from the door you cannot park at it even though it is not used for any of the owners vehicles. the parking area is a good distance away. the fridge is only a fridge do not make the mistake of thinking there is a freezer for keeping frozen items/ice cubes in. the main room of the barn is floored with exterior flagstones which in our visit were quite dirty, we were warned not to trip on the surface as it is unforgiving in a fall. the pool table and gorgian furnature in the house arent suitable for a rental property, the antiques on display in the living room out of reach were a good feature the rest made you worry that you were going to break them especialy after the talking to by the owners. the water is spring water and therefore the supply can and will run out if a large amount of people are using the water especialy for bathing and showers be warned if you have childeren or the infirm who need extra attention with respect to hygene and washing. also the bath is a very small bath less than a 3/4 bath. the sewage tank is under the main room window and is unplesant when emptied!!!! the property is self service but the kitchen is not suitable for a large family. there is not enougth work surface downstairs for making a family meal (unless you use the pool table surface?) there is a tv and it only has the basic 4 channels and is very small for the size of the barn and is very outdated for the price of the property. the property apears dusty on the inside due to the antiques and beams and although a certain amount may add to the feature, layers are not acceptable, the fire was also full of ash and the fireplace had spots of ash from a previous hire. dont take pets as they are confined to the barn and it forces you to keep the doors closed uless you ant to tie them up due to the free range chickens (although i didnt see the same rules applied to the owners dog, which ocasionaly made more noise during the night than a small huricane) the back door should not be used under any circumstances as it opens on to their pario and they dont like this. dont bring a trailer even if arranged as it causes issues for the horses and is stressfull

Idyllic Getaway
I spent a few days in the barn with my family in mid July 2009 and had the most peaceful, relaxing time. The barn has been beautifully restored and decorated and I was completely bowled over by how amazing the surrounding countryside is - with many walks right on the barn's doorstep. There's everything you need to be able to cook for yourself, but also lovely pubs within walking distance. We were treated to freshly-laid eggs from the resident hens a couple of times and they were absolutely delicious. The barn is right on a bridalway and next to the owners' (lovely historic) farmhouse, so if it's absolute privacy you're after, this isn't the place. But the owners couldn't have been more charming, discreet and accommodating - and it's lovely watching the occasional horse pass by - so certainly don't let that put you off. I hope I get a chance to go again.

Our stay at the Barn, Logmore Farm
We stayed at the Barn over the easter weekend and had a brilliant time. There were six adults in our party and four more joined us for the sunday and there was plenty of room for all. The accomodation was great. The main living space is large but somehow cosy with comfy sofas and chairs, a good size, solid dining table and a snooker table! The whole place was clean and well maintained. The upstairs bedrooms naturally have sloping roofs so tall people - take care! The owners were very friendly and helpful which helped make our stay more enjoyable. The location is lovely - at the end of the lane, but only a couple of miles from Dorking. There are some lovely walks in the area next to the barn. We had a lovely lunch at the Wootton Hatch a short drive on the road towards Guildford. We were there for a family celebration and it more than met our hopes and expectations. I have already told several friends about the barn and would certainly recommend it.

Why they chose this property

The surrey hills are a walker's dream. Footpaths and bridleways criss-cross the miles upon miles of woodland and farmland, and beautiful villages like Coldharbour, Shere, Abinger and Friday Street let you experience a byegone age of peaceful rural contentment. Yet you are still close to the market town of Dorking, the university town of Guildford. Even London is just 45 minutes away by train.
