Things that are nice:
We recently stayed in this property for 10 days on our trip to Costa Rica. This little house is situated right next to the owners home and a fifteen minute walk away from the Beach and the Supermarket, a twenty minute walk away from bars and restaurants, making it a great place if you want to have access to the Caribbean lifestyle without needing a car or a taxi when you want to go somewhere. The house is also surrounded by beautiful trees and animals (birds, monkeys, etc.) can often be seen from the balcony.
Things to improve:
There were no food basics in the home, meaning no salt, pepper, flour, oil, etc. This meant that on our first night we had to buy all of these things in order to actually be able to cook, these items rarely come in travel size so it was a bit expensive to buy these things for the 10 days we were there. We stay on many trips like these and they are usually included.
There are no washers or dryers on site, they were in the owners home and it was actually a service you had to pay for at the cost of 10$ US per wash cycle. We felt this was very expensive so we only washed our sheets, towels and a bit of clothes once after a few days and it cost us 30$...
Expect bugs, because there are no screens on any of the windows and the bugs are attracted to light.
The Real Issue:
The home is just a few years old but not everything works perfectly. The shower barely spouts water, because all of the holes are blocked by mineral deposits. Same thing with the the kitchen faucet.
On our third day we tried washing some of our own things in the bathroom sink and the sink stopper got stuck in the pipe when we pressed on it to stop the water, we didn't use force or anything, we used it quite normally. By the scuff marks on the stopper, we could tell this was a recurring issue and many people had tried unblocking it with knives to get it unstuck before. When we told the owners, they got angry and said this had happened before, but they wanted us to pay to change it...
We are nice people, we would never break anything in someone's home, we just used something normally and it got stuck. We refused to pay for something that was poorly designed. They eventually said they wouldn't charge us and the plumber told them they needed to change it anyways. But, this made the stay tense as we were afraid to use anything after that. We feel this issue was handled poorly by the owners and it made us feel stress during our vacation.
