We spent a relaxing fortnight here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to everyone we know.
The pictures don’t do the setting of the property justice; the garden is large and well maintained and not overlooked, the pool has an alarm and was refreshingly cold on the hottest days, the interior is simple and pretty with lots of space for the 6 of us, and the main bathroom is a delight (big shower). Bruno, the owner was very helpful and when we were delayed by a day arranged for his parents, who live nearby, to give us the keys and show us around.
In the village there’s a baker 100 yards away, a small shop, and 2 restaurants… We went to the one at the hotel, and don’t be put off by the look of the place, the food was very good and the service hilarious (in a good way). If you want something more high end the Les Tour Des Vents http://www.tourdesvents.com/ is a Michelin starred restaurant that welcomes children and has a very reasonable and very very good lunch menu.
Around the area there are the usual Hypermarkets just outside Bergerac, and the town of Bergerac is very pretty. There are a number of markets in the surrounding towns and the one in the Bastide of Eymet on Thursdays is worth going to.
We took a couple of longer trips, the coast is 2 hours away and the beaches around the Pyla Dune are clean and there aren’t the crowds you may expect. If you do go to Pyla, park at the next beach down and walk up to the dune, the carpark at the dune is a nightmare (or at least it was when we went). Rocamadour is 2 hours away in the other direction, but within an hour’s drive there’s loads to do for kids and for adults too. Our party was 2 grandparents, 2 parents, and 2 children aged 4 and 6. If you have the time go to the little port attraction in Bergerac, it’s an odd little delight for the kids.
We really do hope to go back again as we don’t think we did everything we could. It’s clean, well-managed, comfortable, all in good repair and it’s delightfully quiet. The only down side is that there’s no bath; a slight problem for a 4 year old who’s scared of showers!
Bruno, thank you so much for a lovely stay!
