About this property

Monthly Rental-Near Fort Worden and North Beach

Ideally located in the Victorian seaport of Port Townsend, this studio apartment is light and quiet and perfect for one or two people seeking a longer stay on the Olympic Peninsula. The studio is a short walk to the beaches and forests of Fort Worden State Park and a five-minute drive to Port Townsend’s Uptown or Downtown business districts. We’re just two blocks from a bus line, in an area with bike lanes, and close to trails and beach walks. It’s a perfect place to access the Olympic National Park and Hood Canal, to attend music festivals or conferences at Centrum, or to take in a film at the restored Rose Theatre. Port Townsend is full of unique shops to browse in on rainy days as well as cafes and historical museums.

This apartment was constructed in 2007 and has all cork floors, a new queen-sized bed, living room/sitting area, bathroom with a shower/tub, and a full kitchen. Numerous large windows make for lots of light, and the neighborhood is quiet. A set of stairs accesses the apartment, which sits above a garage (used for storage). A backyard garden designed to attract songbirds, butterflies, and bees rests between the apartment and the owners’ home and there are chairs and tables available for sitting outside during warmer weather. Our adjacent property to the east includes a vegetable garden and plum tree orchard. Deer are frequent visitors around the Froggy Bottoms neighborhood, and bald eagles soar overhead. Bird species common to the garden include Anna's hummingbirds, white- and golden-crowned sparrows, cedar waxwings, rufous-sided towhees, flickers, and occasionally sharp-shinned hawks.

Ideal for singles or couples, for those looking to get to know the area or relocate to Port Townsend, and for those seeking a quiet place to read, write, and dream.

Wi-fi. Electric heat. We’re sorry we can’t accommodate pets.

During COVID, we are currently accepting only guests from Washington State and Oregon or other nearby states with good practices. Guests will understand in advance that we require masks for all socially distant interactions and no overnight guests or drop-in visitors inside the apartment.

Nice little apartment

I stayed here for three months while taking a course at Ft Worden. Being close enough to walk or ride my bike to the fort was great. The hosts were quick to respond and helpful.

Nice Quiet Stay

I enjoyed the stay. The host are next door and were very friendly. They offered me a fan during a warm period. The neighborhood is away from downtown and very quiet. I would probably not stay again because of the stairs (I am too old for stairs) and because I could not have old friends visit from Seattle overnight. Otherwise it was a nice place to stay.

Beautiful little Nest in a quiet neighborhood

This place is perfect for someone who wants to unwind, read, write that novel you have been planning and nestle into a well stocked, beautifully decorated cozy home. There’s walking trails nearby. I loved seeing the deer around every day. I was staying here while my Home was being built- and it was perfectly set up for short or longer stays. Shopping and restaurants are only minutes away by car. My Hostesses were helpful and respectful. It was lovely.

Froggy Bottom

The unit was very clean and just the right size for me. All the things I needed were available and the hosts had left a good notebook on all the things I might have questions about. They are conscientious environmentalist, which I appreciate. I will come back

Lovely Studio! Quiet—Calm—Clean

My wife and I stayed for a full month—Just could not have been nicer! It's been months now since we were there and still reminisce almost daily. The hosts are great! The place is great! The walks around the hood—Wow! The deer—Wow! The trees—Wow! And a quick drive to downtown or uptown.

It Felt Like Home

We stayed here for a month this winter and enjoyed it thoroughly. The cottage is nicely designed, well-appointed and spotlessly clean. After just a few days, we were referring to it as "home." Barbara and Betsy are very professional hosts, and strike an ideal balance -- being available if there is a need but giving their guests space and privacy. (We've been in other vacation rentals where the owners feel like an ever-present force.) The location of this place is ideal. We would walk each morning to Fort Worden State Park, just a few minutes away, for walks to the bluffs, the lighthouse, the beach, etc. If so inclined be sure to walk to Taps at the Guardhouse at happy hour -- fun! The cottage is convenient to Port Townsend's grocery stores, the Rose Theatre, etc., but is also comfortably removed from the bustle of town. We hope to return soon. the Nolands, La Crescenta, Calif.

A little gem

Everything is convenient and attractive in this small but efficient apartment. The kitchen is well equipped, if you must cook at home and not go to the many, many great restaurants in Port Townsend. The location is an easy, short drive to Uptown or Downtown, and, best of all, a 15 minute walk (or 10 minute bike ride) to the beautiful, historic Fort Worden park. Beautiful quiet beaches--all connected to two other local beaches. Wonderful walks, birds, interesting things to see. I walked through the forest to the beach each day, stopping for coffee at the Ft. Worden Cafe. The Port Townsend Marine Science Center is on the wharf, and worthy of more than one visit. The neighborhood is very quiet and one can manage a peaceful stay here. Barbara is there but not so much--it is a peaceful co-existence with her guests.

Wonderful studio, nice views with lots of Windows, great location!

I was lucky enough to stay here for two months! I loved every minute of it and was very sad to leave. The location was perfect, the owners were very nice, and for me personally not having TV was wonderful. Nature is everywhere, the beach is within walking distance, and I really enjoyed the whole area tremendously. I hope to return shortly!!

Feels like home to me ;-)

I spent a month in this comfortable, clean and quiet place, actually felt like home. The hostesses are lovely, present to insure everything is ok for you, but gives you privacy if their intervention is not needed (I lived a storm there, very impressive, they provided me a flashlight :-) ) The bed is comfortable, you'll enjoy it, especially after long walks :-) You can also cook if you want it, the kitchen corner allows you to be very independent. But, if you don't have a car (like me) you can find yourself a bit annoyed with the laundry, for it's a bit far in town. One thing could disturb you at the beginning (this is for non-residents, because in Europe we're not used to that) is the noise the fan can make, but you get used to it fast enough :-). No TV (if you are "addicted") and the internet may be slow, you better have your own device. I you are a walker, then you'll enjoy your walk. Every road finishes in the ocean so to speak. In few minutes (max 30) you are at the beach, every direction you'll take, the ocean awaits for you. Nature, colors and smells are just awesome. When the weather don't allow you to go outside, you can enjoy the books that are at your disposal. I can't wait to come back in summer, to be able to enjoy the garden, and for there are many activities that you can do, much more than during the winter.

The Tree House

My wife and I stayed here for a month and called it our tree house as it is on the second level at tree height. The place is light and airy with numerous widows for views and cooling down the place on warm days. Because of all the widows A/C is not needed. On our first morning at the tree house there were two fawns and a doe out our bedroom window. One of the fawns was mostly white which is rare. It was an easy walk to North Beach and Fort Worden. The kitchen had all the needed items to easily cook our meals. The tree house was located so all parts of Port Townsend were easily accessible. One reason we stayed in Port Townsend was the ferry to Victoria, B.C. and to Oak Harbor were near by. The skylight in the bathroom was a great idea to add more light to the area. The neighborhood was quiet and safe. The landlords were readily available, friendly, and helpful when we had questions.

Quiet, Cozy, Peaceful Getaway, Walk to Fort Warden

Very clean, warm & cozy . In a quiet neighborhood abundant birds & nature, deer visit frequently. You are up high with beautiful view of trees & a garden. You can walk to town, its a little ways through public trails, & a short walk to Fort Warden. Perfect for one or two seeking getaway. The owners are next store, very lovely, friendly people yet give you full privacy unless you desire interaction. Attentive to needs. Just know No TV & The wi-fi can be a little slow, Netflix works will drop off occasionally. Enjoy the Magic! Denise

A sweet studio in a great location.

My wife and I completely enjoyed our stay. We were sad to leave. The studio is cozy, well-equipped, spotless, in a cool neighborhood in a great location. We were minutes away from North Beach, which quickly became our favorite place for catching the sunset. Actually, we were just minutes away from all the things we came to love: The Rose Theater, the lighthouse and great walks at Fort Worden, Lanza's in Uptown, Aldrich's Market, Sunrise Coffee, the Spruce Goose. And you could not ask for more considerate hosts. We felt very welcome from the moment we arrived. Our privacy was respected, at the same time we really appreciated the warmth and kindness that was apparent any time we spoke. And I must say that we were a bit worried at first that there was no television. As time went on, though, this became one of the best parts of the stay. We read, wrote, and went to the Rose Theater for great films, and were glad for its absence. We would be happy to stay again, and recommend this rental without the slightest hesitation.

About the host

We are both writers, and one of us is also an editor while the other is a wildlife biologist. We enjoy hiking, biking, traveling, and attending plays and concerts. Since moving into our home, we have devoted many hours to the development of our garden and designed it to provide habitat to birds, bees, and butterflies. Additionally, we have a small vegetable garden where we also grow good crops of strawberries (come in June!), and raspberries and blueberries (come later in the summer!).

Why they chose this property

The Froggy Bottoms neighborhood is very quiet and feels quite rural (deer are often seen, while coyotes and raccoons can be occasionally glimpsed darting here and there). Our garden also provides food, cover, and water to birds that reside here year-round. The apartment is small and cozy; visitors say it's a great place to retreat and a space to work.

What makes this property unique

Port Townsend appeals to us because it's close enough to bigger city for plays and shopping, but much closer to the nature we love. The town itself vibrates with energy in the summer with visitors, sailors, and everyone out walking and biking. But in the quiet Northwest winter it's a charming place to settle in and appreciate the forests and farmlands of the Quimper Peninsula.
