About this property

A beautiful place to unwind, in luxury and seclusion

The Edge of Paradise is a true gem and a one of a kind tropical getaway villa. Nestled on the edge of world-renown Magen’s Bay in St. Thomas, it is a unique combination of charm, luxury and privacy. The seclusiveness and natural beauty of this property are what make it so extraordinary. The property includes approximately five-hundred feet of prime ocean frontage and its own beach, just a walk down the steps. Our villa looks over a pristine coral reef that flourishes in these crystal clear Caribbean waters, teeming with life. There are very few rental homes in all of the Virgin Islands that can compare to our property as a charming and luxurious tropical retreat, with its own secluded beach and reef. As such, it is a very special place for families to unwind and share a memorable vacation.

Our views of the stunning waters of Magen’s Bay are truly exceptional. Magen’s Bay is a treasured Virgin Island nature preserve and, as such, has no hotels nearby and very limited residential development on its shores, particularly its western shore. Magen’s Bay Beach is a magnificent natural landmark that stretches for over a mile along the south end of the bay, renown for its white sand and turquoise waters. Behind the beach stands a tropical forest, which gradually rises up a mountain, filled with lush vegetation and fascinating wildlife. This beach was recognized as one of the top ten beaches in the entire world by National Geographic.

The Edge of Paradise sits on the west side of the bay. Our villa is the most proximate residence to Magen’s Bay Beach on the western shore, just a short kayak paddle away. Yet, because a dense tropical forest and a rugged rocky shoreline span between our villa and that beach, we are exquisitely secluded. This is just one reason why we believe our location is ideal. In addition, we appreciate that the waters of the bay are calmer and more protected than any others on the Island. This tends to make the water clearer and safer for swimming and snorkeling, especially important when kids are involved. Thirdly, we cherish the beautiful coral reef that thrives along the western side of the bay. This reef is quite isolated and not readily accessible to beach tourists, and so it remains pristine. No other reef exists in the bay; the rest of the bay is predominantly sandy. It is quite uncommon to have a secluded spot where adults and kids can wade out into an ocean that has a colorful and fascinating reef right there to explore, in clear Caribbean waters that deepen very gradually .

Paradise found in St. Thomas!

Beautiful doesn’t begin to cover it. Truly a slice of paradise. For the first time ever- The reality was actually BETTER than the pictures. It was so beautiful, the pictures we looked at while deciding where to stay couldn’t do it justice. Greg and Julia were Great! Flexible, helpful, and knowledgeable. We were lucky enough to be in the Virgin Islands for 2 weeks and we stayed in several places before spending the last week at Greg’s beautiful property. The difference in attitude was like night and day. Which really had a positive impact on the entire situation. It didn’t hurt that staying at Greg’s was like having an entire resort to ourselves. Literally everything you could want. Not only does the house have 3 floors with spacious rooms and long balconies on every floor- but there was also a quaint 1 bedroom cottage by the pool-not far from the house. With a large bed and full bathroom included! Full outdoor set up with a pool, grill, long table and chairs, beautiful gardens/ landscaping etc - plus there was even a pizza oven and 2 hammocks. Beautiful ocean views literally everywhere from the house to Magens bay. Then on the last side of the house is a rain forest type environment with a pathway and stone steps that lead down to a balcony with more beautiful views. From there- You can continue down to your own private beach! With your own Kayaks! I really can’t say enough about what a wonderful experience this was. You’d really have to see for yourself.

We had a wonderful stay, it truly was the Edge of Paradise

A great house, wonderful location above Magen’s Bay perfect for our family, you definitely need a 4WD Jeep to navigate the road there. Greg the owner was very helpful and suggested some super places to visit. Almost private beach and kayaks provided for the paddle to Magen’s Beach.

Truth nothing but the truth

Million dollar view, but deception on what you get, verses what is promised or listed. We could write a book on things that were wrong. To name a few pictures shows hot tube but there is no hot tube it has been covered, listing says main house has a/c does not work, says beach access and paddle boards impossible to get to. please feel free to reach out to us we have no problem telling you what you are getting verses paying for. We are not saying the house is not beautiful but if you are going to ask for all the money to rent then give the client what the are paying for. Let us make the decision on if we want to spend the money and what is important to us.

Terrific If You Want Secluded on Megan's Bay

This is a beautiful home on the south side of Megan's Bay. We were a family of 4 - - it could comfortably fit 12. Part of the fun is the road in - - but you must rent a jeep. We do not recommend if you want to be close to town. For us the seclusion was a plus.

Fantastic spot!

I stayed at this property with family for about one week. The house is beautiful and open, providing both a wonderful place to relax with loved ones and a spectacular view of the bay! With access to our own beach AND an infinity pool, we could have never left the house and been very happy! We were able to snorkel and kayak right from the property which was convenient and a truly amazing experience. The outdoor oven/grill was also very nice to be able to enjoy meals out on the patio. When we did decide to leave it was only a short drive to explore the town and get some fantastic fish tacos. This property provided the perfect relaxing getaway for us!

This is truly paradise! St. Thomas is a wonderful destination for snorkeling, swimming, hiking, sightseeing, kayaking, boat-rides....and more that we did not have time for on our trip. The house is lovely: open downstairs with a beautiful patio and deck in the back overlooking Magen's Bay. The infinity pool was a wonderful way to end our days and there are stairs from the house down to the water. We were even able to kayak over to Magen's Bay from the house for an afternoon. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who enjoys good times with beautiful weather, beautiful houses, and beautiful views!

Pure luxury and natural beauty

The Edge of Paradise proved to be the perfect spot for my mother and me to get away to a beautiful island and just kick back for a week. We were fascinated by the very remote and private location of this villa built right into the side of the mountain and overlooking Magens Bay. The house décor is elegant and tasteful surrounded by a naturally beautiful setting. I loved waking up staring directly into the vibrant blue waters of Magens bay. Thank goodness we rented a Jeep Wrangler to negotiate the last part of the drive to the property. Once there, we did not want to leave, the property house offers a vacation and beach-y atmosphere, yet the main house is very spacious, well-appointed and pristinely kept. We enjoyed every moment of our time there.

Perfect Getaway

As soon as you set foot on the main patio, you are just taken away. The views from all over the Villa are simply amazing. The panoramic views are beautiful. You can see the reefs below, Magens Bay Beach only a mile down the shore, and Petersburg Point across the bay. Accommodations inside the villa are what really make the visit all the more terrific. Sleeping arrangements in the many bedrooms are comfortable, and between the breeze always blowing and fans circulating air, the air conditioning is barely needed. The kitchens, both inside and out were used frequently. Fresh seafood on the grill, pizzas in the outdoor oven and cooking on the stoves inside give you a gourmet experience. The lower deck to the water lets you relax away from the house while still enjoying the same views, and a little climb down gets you right to the water. Whether we wanted to snorkel on the reef, kayak to Magens Bay Beach, paddle-board around, sit in the waves, or even just relax in the pool, the options were limitless. Relaxation is key here, and it comes easy. Leaving was the hardest thing we had to do on our trip, and I would not hesitate to go back!

Paradise Found

We just came back from a dream vacation with our best friends. We have spent over 20 years vacationing together, but nothing compared to this trip. The home is beautifully decorated and offers all the comforts of home; there was room for 4 couples with bathrooms to spare. The kitchen is large and open, which allowed us to cook together, then eat at the HUGE table that sits 12. We were lucky enough to stay in the cottage, where every night we were lulled to sleep by tree frogs and the lapping of the ocean on the rocks. The area was filled with natural beauty, we hiked, kayaked, fished and snorkeled all from the convenience of the villa (no driving necessary). In the morning we observed iguanas basking and sea turtles swimming in the coral beds directly below the house. On the last day of our vacation as we sat out on the deck watching the birds and ocean it began to rain, for just a moment…then a huge rainbow appeared that started near Megan’s beach, and ended in the ocean just in front of the house!! We have spoken to several people who have visited St. Thomas and described how beautiful Megan’s bay is, and how they found it to be the favorite part of their vacation. The beauty of the villa is that you can experience this without leaving (unless you want to for a day trip) and enjoy it every day. Yes, I truly believe we had found the pot of gold at the Edge of Paradise. We will be back!!

Paradise Plus

Truly something for everyone at this luxuriously comfortable spacious home. Surrounded by lush flora on three sides, the fourth provides one of the most magnificent water views we've seen.Through clear water we watched from the veranda as ocean life entertained us around the coral reef. Snorkeling with them was great fun. We kayaked to world renowned Magens Beach and relaxed on the pure white sand. Heaven! Fish Tacos anyone? Head to Hull Bay, one bay North. Eat in? The kitchen and dining area rival most homes, not only the cooking/ eating areas for their amenities but for the VIEW through the wall to wall windows and French doors. Shop or people watch at the bustling Harbor or enjoy another view from Mountain top. We swam, walked, shopped, ate, explored, kayaked, snorkeled, relaxed and took in the awesome night sky. I know it's been said before but, we will be back.

A week of Therapy!

Having a very busy year at our jobs, my wife and I looked forward to spending some down time with the family on St. Thomas. We had looked at a few villas but thought having the ocean close by and a pool for the kids would give us more time to relax. With my brother and Mother-in-Law joining my wife, 4 year old son, six year old daughter, and myself visiting the island, it made for a diverse group. We wanted a zero stress vacation, and the Edge of Paradise certainly filled the need. To me, the best part of the property was the rocky shore below the house. Listening to the waves break on the rocks while watching the sunset over Magen’s Bay was absolutely therapeutic. Every night after the kids went to bed; we would mix up a cocktail and meet on the deck to relax after a ‘hard day’ on the beach or in town. Also, with the main bedrooms facing the water, listening to the surf would just lull us to sleep at night. The property is fully air conditioned, but we found the breezes at night and the windows open kept us comfortable (and better to hear the ocean!). However, because of the number of windows, I would recommend anyone that is not a morning person to bring a sleep mask. Gena and her husband (the Property Managers) were very attentive and available, not that we needed her much because the house was so well equipped. Her occasional advice that was always helpful, with the most important advice being to get a jeep to get to the villa. Being right on the water and leaving the main road at about 500-600 feet of elevation, it made for some interesting driving to get down to the property. But this also gave an incredible amount of privacy. When you arrive and go through the gate, you have your very own secluded compound. Having an engineering background as well as some general contracting experience (my brother has also been in the construction industry for 30 years) made us appreciate the property even more. The thought put into the design of the structure and grounds was outstanding, and workmanship was very good. We admired the stone, tile, and wood work, which had great quality without ostentation. The furniture was all very solid and functional, complementing rest of the property. The villa also has a generator which did come in handy one night when the island lost power. In all, it was a great week.

Relaxing and beautiful

My stay at the Edge of Paradise was absolutely perfect. I knew ,going in, how beautiful the island of St. Thomas was but to stay in such a luxury home that was so private yet a 10 minute paddle to the most beautiful beach on earth(Megans Bay beach) was a dream! Being able to watch the kids snorkel along the reef from the front porch, while grilling the evening meal was incredible. The ability to stay there was more than convenient, it made it a vacation, with no reason to leave(except for sight seeing on the island). The home layout was perfect for us, with the pool and hot tub overlooking the breath taking water, and plenty of room for us all. I cannot describe the feeling of falling asleep to the sound of the waves and the tree frogs;then waking up to the sun, and seeing the turquoise blue water from my bed.......enough reason to book another stay!

Everything you need and more

Having never experienced anywhere like St. Thomas, I went into this vacation not knowing what to expect. I was hoping for a nice relaxing week with some great friends but I left having had a week that I will never forget. I'm sure there are many great options for places to stay on St. Thomas but the Edge of Paradise went above and beyond in accommodating all our needs. The bedrooms were the perfect size for multiple people to stay comfortably and the kitchen had everything necessary to make dinner for a large group. I had to do some last minute things for work and the Wi-Fi was great - I could have gotten used to checking my email as I overlooked the coral reef from the porch. The owners of the house offer snorkeling equipment and access to their kayaks, which made the vacation perfect. Being able to snorkel in the coral reef right below the home was amazing. I have kayaked in various lakes and rivers in New York, but the opportunity to kayak in Megan's Bay was one I could never pass up. The beautiful staircase led from the house right down to the beach where we launched. We used the kayaks to take ourselves around the Bay and right to the beach where we swam, laid out to get sun, and walked up the nature trail. This location offered the perfect private getaway and went above and beyond in providing whatever we needed to enjoy everything the island had to offer. If I had the opportunity to go back to St. Thomas I would only go if this home were available.

Private Oasis

As stunning as the pictures of the Edge of Paradise on the website are, the reality is twenty times better! As I spent an idyllic week there, I speculated that this is how Hollywood celebrities must de-stress. If you’re looking for a real break, an opportunity to rest and reflect, then this private, secluded oasis has it all. For spectacular views, the Edge of Paradise boasts an infinity pool, a hot tub, and full length balconies overlooking picturesque Magens Bay. To immerse yourself in the flora and fauna of this lush island, walk down to the private pebble beach, marvel at the beautiful coral, snorkel among the colourful fish, and kayak the length of Magens Bay. If you’re a foodie, the modern kitchen has all the conveniences, or make use of the impressive barbeque or wood-burning pizza oven (what a treat!) to cook up a storm. Our party of four adults had a spectacular, unforgettable stay.

Truly Paradise - Amazing Views with Great Acess to the Water

With a breathtaking view of Magen's Bay, amazing coral reefs to explore, and a quiet atmosphere to relax and enjoy the stay, Edge of Paradise delivered on all expectations and still left me breathless. Upon arriving and first catching a glimpse of the house, it was immediately better than I was expecting and I knew that there would only be good things to come. The whole house breathed comfort, relaxation, and the true definition of vacation. Walking outside onto any of the decks and seeing the waterfront with the reefs was always a perfect start to the morning. With easy access to the water for kayaking, snorkeling, and swimming, this Villa was perfect for underwater excitement and adventures. The walk down to the water was very easy, especially with the very new looking deck and stairs! The coral reefs were stirring with life, from many colorful fish to lobsters, crabs, and even a sea turtle!! We took a kayak to the beach at Magen's Bay (a very easy paddle) and enjoyed a walk on the white sandy beach. One day, we were even daring enough to snorkel and swim our way down to the beach! No matter what bedroom you were in, you didn't miss out on any amazing views of the natural surroundings or the water below. With the infinity pool looking right out over the water, it was a perfect place to relax in the middle of the hot day and still take in the sights. The week spent here was better than I could have ever expected, and the accommodations were just as amazing. All in all, Edge of Paradise was better than described, and then some. It was a great trip and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

A Breathtaking Vacation with Untouched Nature Abound

We initially thought the "Edge of Paradise" was cliche but as soon as our family arrived, we realized that we were immersed in paradise. It was even more amazing than described. No matter what room you were in or where you looked, this property allowed its guests to be fully integrated with the beauty of the natural surroundings. The wall of windows created a sense that we were next to the water at all times and we had never seen such beautiful blues. The best part was the view from the patio overlooking the infinity pool. The extensive decking allowed us to enjoy the spectacular views of Magen's Bay and the surrounding shoreline. After walking down the stairs (which looked brand new) of the property, we were able to easily access the water for snorkeling. Our daily underwater adventures were full of sea life (colorful fish, brittle stars, turtles, and even an octopus). The only drawback was that you are not allowed to bring any of these treasures home. By the end of our visit, we developed a new appreciation for these creatures and were content to leave them in the beautiful waters they call home. We also kayaked over to Magen's Bay (it was an easy trip) and enjoyed the powder white sand. Initially we were concerned that we might miss out on the ammenities of a resort poperty; however, our experience was to the contrary. This villa is filled with luxury, top of the line craftmanship and well appointed furnishings. The beds were heavenly. Instead of waiting for a table at a crowded restaraunt, we prepared our meals in the deluxe kitchen and watched the sunsets. We did rent a vehicle for going into town (duty free shopping, ice cream, and fish tacos at Hull Bay). Overall, this will be considered one of our most memorable family vacations and we highly recommend this property!!!

About the host

Host profile image
After a thorough search of properties throughout the Caribbean, we purchased this one in 2012 and introduced it into the rental market in 2013. The property was meticulously designed by a married couple to be their ultimate dream home, and the elaborate landscaping and construction work was completed over eight long years. After having refurnished the home and having made a number of modifications to make the villa an extraordinary rental property, we now share their vision and paradise with our guests, and look ahead to our retirement there.

Why they chose this property

As alluded to earlier, we found the Edge of Paradise to be a true gem and a one of a kind tropical retreat. For us, it was truly 'love at first sight'. Many rental villas in the Virgin Islands offer gorgeous views, but few are on the waterfront. And most of the waterfront villas are atop steep cliffs overlooking rough waters that are not readily accessible or swimmable.

We never imagined that we could find a spot that is so utterly beautiful and so secluded, yet situated on a widely renowned bay that has one of the world's top ten beaches. Even more amazing was the reality that the villa sits so close to the water level, has its own secluded beach, and has a flourishing coral reef directly in front of it. There is no place we would rather be!

What makes this property unique

For families that want to make their vacation even more relaxing and unforgetable, we can arrange for an in-home spa day by having a masseus visit you in the villa. Similarly, we can secure the services of a personal chef to make gourmet meals, and a captain to take you on a sightseeing or fishing excursion. We can even combine the two!

You should be aware that power outages do occur on St. Thomas and the other Islands, sometimes happening several times a week, for prolonged periods. Our villa is equipped with a powerful heavy duty generator, located away from the house so as not to be heard, with an automatic changeover switch that takes over after 15 seconds with no power. When you consider renting elsewhere, you must consider this. If your rental property does not have a generator, you risk the possibility of being without wifi, television, refrigeration, running water and air conditioning for periods of time, and that could be inconvenient.

Sometimes we hear horror stories about renters at other villas who have their long-awaited vacation ruined by various problems. We are very confident that this will never occur at Edge of Paradise because of two reasons. First, our villa was described by our home inspector as the best built property he has seen on the Island in his six year career here. Also, our property is managed by Gena and Brian McHenry. They are the most personable, knowledgeable, and responsive people one could ever hope to meet. They live nearby.
