About this property

Our family cottage is nestled in the woods with 150 feet of waterfront property overlooking beautiful Lake Ontario.

Our property has three levels for you to enjoy your surroundings. The deck attached to the house offers stunning views of the lake and sunset. Grill and dine, play a game of darts or simply read a book while you enjoy the tranquility. A flight of stairs off of the deck leads you to a grassy area where you will find Adirondack chairs around a fire pit. Bring lawn darts or corn hole for some family fun! Continue along a short path and down another flight of stairs and you will arrive at our beach deck on the shore. Go for a refreshing swim or take a kayak excursion. Or simply sit on the deck and enjoy the sparkling water and sea breeze!

Robert G. Wehle State Park is minutes away and offers many amenities, including miles of hiking trails, tennis courts and a brand new playground for the kids. Take a picnic lunch and walk along the beautiful cliff trail to the slate shoals where you will find picnic tables and restrooms.

There are sandy beaches a short drive to the north or south. Picnic tables and grills dot the beach at Westcott State Park and Southwick State Park.

Stroll through the picturesque town of Sackets Harbor, visit the charming shops, historic sites and battlefield, and dine at one of the many waterfront restaurants.

Anglers take note! Boating and fishing enthusiasts flock to this area every summer. There are many fishing charters available in Henderson Harbor and boat rentals at our local marinas for a reasonable price. If you own a boat, there is no place to park or turn a boat around on our road, which is a dead end. However, you can park your trailer on our property at the top of the hill or at the local marina.

For the more adventurous, the Black River in Watertown boasts some of the best whitewater rafting in the country.

Explore the area with day trips to the Renaissance Fair, the Thousand Islands with ferry rides to Boldt Castle, and the Enchanted Forest Water Safari in the Adirondacks.

An evening is not complete without a trip to The Trolley for an ice cream cone, an upstate NY summer tradition.

This three bedroom, two bath home sleeps six adults comfortably. All three bedrooms have air conditioning units. There is a washer and dryer available for your use.

Perfect Fall Weekend

This was the perfect lakefront home for a relaxing, long weekend away. Owners are very responsive and helpful! The sunset views were amazing and our dogs loved exploring down by the lower dock! Extremely quiet neighborhood, but not far at all from restaurants. We ate at Carbones one night and then Tin Pan Galley after spending an afternoon in Sackets Harbor… Both were excellent recommendations! Our favorite activity was the hiking in Robert Wehle state park- absolutely breathtaking views of Lake Ontario! We’ll definitely be back to visit the area again!😊 Thank you for sharing your beautiful family home with us, Kimberly & David (And Hondo & Rory too🐾🐾)

Amazing stay

Summer fun

A Little off the beaten path, but lovely. Peaceful and very quiet. Water was wonderful. You do need water shoes as it is a rocky beach.

Relaxing get away!

What a beautiful home away from home! My family and dog stayed for a week and had a very enjoyable time. The cottage was clean and very spacious with lots of room for storage of any kind. Keep in mind there is not a stove, but we never needed one! The deck by the water was our favorite part with inner tubes and 2 kayaks. We were very impressed at how calm and clean the water of Lake Ontario was by the camp. Would love to stay again!

Weekend stay

Stayed here in the fall, simply looking for peaceful silence. And it provided that both times. Have zero complaints and it’s a great spot for either fall or spring and I’m sure it’s absolutely lovely in the summer.

Wonderful Lakeside Retreat!

Beautifully located home on Lake Ontario. Home is immaculately clean and has everything needed to enjoy the area. Very comfortable in every way. Views are excellent and house is secluded. Owners are very attentive and respond to questions, etc. You will not be disappointed with this rental. Will stay here again!

Peaceful Tranquility!

This vacation was wonderful. We were able to take our two dogs who are our “kids”. The house was a large ranch style with one floor living. The outdoors had a large deck looking over the lake, a terrace with a great fire pit, and a third deck water level. There are a lot of stairs but east to navigate. We had rainy weather but still visited four state parks while there for 4 days. The owners were very attentive and made sure our stay was perfect. You don’t need to bring anything but your clothes and food. The property is well maintained and comfortable. We sat at the table and watched the boats go by. Be sure to bring solid water shoes, this beach area is rocky. If you prefer sand, there are two beaches nearby, and a third about 45 minutes away. I think anyone would be comfortable there, even an older person could enjoy lake views from the main deck. I was very appreciative of the owners attention to detail. We would definitely rent from them again if visiting Ontario.

What a wonderful surprise! The property and home were even better in person than the photos online. Views are stunning, windows everywhere. Updated home, comfortable, well stocked kitchen with dishes pans, pots, utensils. Can you tell I loved this home:)

Wonderful vacation spot

Had a great time at this home. It is better than the pics, and owners are very accommodating and have really thought of everything, the home is very well equipped with everything we needed. The kayaks were great and we had great weather to use the floats too. Bon fires at nite after the gorgeous sunsets. Communication was not a problem at all, answered a few miner questions we had right away. Very relaxing time. We loved it and hope to return. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely place.

Wonderful Lake Views and Sunsets

This is a fantastic place to spend a summer week at the lake! We (2 adults, 2 teens) traveled with my brother and sister-in-law, the layout accommodates groups such as ours exceptionally well. The front door opens into a charming, large living room with sliding glass doors to the deck (and view of Lake Ontario). To the right are the kitchen, a master BR and adjacent full bathroom. On the opposite side of the living room are two additional BR (one king, one with 2 twin beds) a second bathroom and the laundry room. The entire home was spotless, and had everything we needed for a relaxing week. The surrounding area is full of lovely towns on the lake or river, and we never lacked for places to explore, good restaurants, and activities such as boat tours and exploring Boldt Castle. The owners were helpful and attentive, Janet reached out after the prior renters mentioned bees on the deck to offer helpful advice to keep them away (they were not an issue during our stay). If you choose to just stay on property the entire week, you can easily keep busy kayaking or floating in the lake, or relaxing on the deck(s) or at the fire pit. We played some competitive games of darts and Clue, with many other games to choose from. The sunsets each evening were extraordinary - never the same, and always beautiful. Beautiful lakehouse

This is a beautiful lakehouse on Henderson Harbor. They have a very well-stocked kitchen., and it was nice to have the beds made when we arrived. We enjoyed many hours swimming. kayaking, paddleboarding relaxing on floats, watching the sunsets and just enjoying our perfect surroundings. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet and the three different levels from which we could enjoy the lake! .

Great last minute get away

The property owners were great with communication. We have been going to Henderson area for 30+ years and this is one of the nicest places we have stayed. Very clean, peaceful, and a beautiful view. Being older and arthritic we were a little concerned with the number of steps to the beach area but they were manageable and the lower deck was lovely. We did not cook much but the kitchen had what we needed with a good size refrigerator. Cell phone and internet reception was good. We plan to return!

Family Vacation

We had a wonderful stay in Henderson. The pictures do not do the property justice. The house has been cared for and there are many upgrades. Having 2 bathrooms was greatly appreciated with 3 teenagers in the family. The view off the deck is wonderful. We enjoyed the sunsets and watching the ships pass in the distance,. . There are many things to do in the area. We took several trips over to Wehle State Park and hiked the trails. Enjoyed dinner out in Henderson and just relaxing on the deck. A great family vacation!

Lakeside retreat

Our second visit to this fantastic rental on Lake Ontario, the PERFECT spot for rest and relaxation. Quiet, clean, and well appointed -- and they allow well-behaved dogs! Seriously! How awesome is that? We arrived in Henderson, NY stressed after a week of cleaning up from Hurricane Ida in New Jersey, and left feeling renewed and refreshed. Cannot recommend enough!

Great cottage in a quiet area on the lakeshore. This was my fourth time renting this cottage in the past five years. Great view of the lake and the setting sun from the deck! A second deck at the waters edge is a nice bonus. The owners are a pleasure to work with and they are continually improving the property, most recently adding a second full bathroom and renovating bedrooms. I’ll be staying again next year!

Lake Living

Enjoyed our week on the lake. Being able to just wake up and go outside to kayak and paddle board was awesome. The views were unparalleled. We enjoyed watching the sunsets while sitting by the fire pit. Owners were a dream to deal with and quickly handled any issue that arose or we had a question about. Highly recommend.

Great place, excellent communication

We loved this cottage. It had the real feel of a cottage but with most of the amenities of a hotel. The views at all levels were spectacular and the surrounding state parks and beaches were great for biking, kayaking, hiking and swimming (although you can swim and kayak right off the lower deck at the cottage). The communication between the cottage owners and us was excellent: they were very responsive and friendly. Pet-friendly too! All in all a lovely stay and highly recommended.

About the host

We are the daughters of Joan and Bob McMullen from Rochester NY, who fell in love with this area over 40 years ago. They bought this property and we all worked together to build this cottage and make it a very special summer place. Since then, we have both raised our families (six kids total) who delight in the water and their time in the woods! Jeanne now resides in Boston and Janet in Florida...and our time here is limited. So... until we retire and can spend our entire summers here, we want to share our little bit of paradise with you!

Why they chose this property

We only want to persuade those who would enjoy what our home has to offer. Please read our reviews for a good sense of our unique accommodations. Many cottages on the lake are older with small windows and no out-door areas. We have a large deck with double sliding glass doors. You can enjoy the scenery from within or without!!

We have several guests that return every summer. They love the wooded setting, the privacy and the tranquility. Our living room is open and spacious, and the view breathtaking. And you can't beat the sunsets! Every evening we wait with anticipation as the sun sinks down over the lake. Each night we witness a brand-new display of light and color, as no two sunsets are exactly alike!
