About this property

Wine Chateaux- South Of France 9 beds Sleeps 14-18 Heated Pool Garden Beaches Nr

"LE MANOIR DE CANET D'AUDE" is a fully, recently renovated and imposing Belle Epoque Maison de Maitre - 'Master's House of the Beautiful Era' with 9 bedrooms.

It was originally built in the early 1830's, as a show of influence by one of the wealthiest farmers, landowners and Wine and Brandy producers - For many years later in it's life it was home to the family of the Mayor of Narbonne.

It is positioned semi rurally, on the edge of the thriving village of Canet D'Aude, under a mile from the Canal Du Midi at Ventenac with it's choice of Restaurants - While still being close to all essential services at Lezignan Corbieres and the Cathedral City of Narbonne, with it's choice of High Quality Sandy Beaches beyond.

To the rear it has a Huge Shady Garden and a Brand New Pool (With child's security barrier) and Sun Terrace.

It was Completely Renovated in early 2013 to retain all it's original character and patina but functions perfectly as a modern and practical property should.

This house really suits Larger Gathering, Special Events, Parties, Tour Group's and Multiple Families perfectly....

* We can accommodate up to 14-18 People in 9 Double Hi Quality Hotel (Splittable into Singles for Teenagers and Singles Sharing) Beds, Two Pull Out Bed's for younger children who don't mind sharing with their Parents and Four Cots.

- Or you could simply indulge yourself and further relax in all the space and grandeur with just a handful of close friends.

The house sits securely behind magnificent decorative cast iron gates, with an imposing façade of golden quarried sandstone, as is the grand curved staircase and balustrade that rises to the front architectural balcony and terrace.

This terrace overlooks a Walled Courtyard and large gravelled space.

Heavy Full Height Wooden Doors open to the Main Entrance Hall, with it's marble staircase and walls still rendered in the Original 1830's Hand Painted Trompe l'oeil, giving an aged marble effect.

Either side of the Hall are Double Doors that open into Two Large Comfortable Rooms (Salon and Dining Room), each with High Ceilings complete with Ornate Mouldings, Chandeliers and Marble Fireplaces - This gives you a clear choice of two areas to sit and relax, perhaps for young and old or whatever suits the mood best.

- Fast fibre Orange Wifi is available from this point all over the house.

The Main Hub of Le Manor is the newly re fitted Dining Room and large fully equipped French Period Country Style Kitchen .

From the front balcony you have views over the main Swimming Pool, Sun Terrace and Park Garden with its Shallow Brook and numerous Mature Shady Fruit Trees.

Bedroom 1 is located on the Ground Floor (for Easier Access) with an ensuite WC and Handbasin and is served by the Ground Floor Family Sized Bathroom & Shower Room close by. Bedroom 2* (best suited to children/teens, adjoining bedroom 1 but also with own entrance) with twin beds .

On the First Floor there are Four Well Proportioned Luxury Bedroom Suites, all with Double Beds, that can be easily be split into Two Single's - Each room has a En Suite with Hans Grohe Power Rain Shower and Double Sinks space permitting.

There are also Two Daybeds, that can be popped up and placed within the largest room suites for younger children + There are 4 Portable Cots and 4 High Chairs for Babies.

Well selected Farrow and Ball Paints and Osborne & Little Wall Papers have been used throughout to complete the French Contemporary Classic feel.

On the Third Top Floor there are Three Further Bedrooms and a Large Shared Family size WC, Shower Room with Double Sinks - One of the Bedrooms is arranged as a Non Splittable Double, the next a Splittable Double and the final one as a Two / Three Bed Dormitory.

On the Lower Ground Floor we have a further recently refitted Contemporary Classic French Kitchen with Satellite TV and access to the outside front courtyard - This area is also used by the House Keeper (If her services are required) to cook delicious local food for Waitered Dinners.

Next door is the Well Stocked 'Honesty Wine Cellar' / Utility Room with Washing Machine.

Off the Original Staff Kitchen is the New 'Games Room' - With a Full Size Quality Pool Table, Bar Style Table Foot Ball and Full Size Ping Pong Table - Yippie ! This leads into the newly opened and ‘Dedicated TV Cinema Room’ for Netflix and sporting events. Furnished with Comfortable Sofas.

Then to the rear of the property the ‘Champagne Bar & Wine Makers Barn’. A further fun Courtyard Space with a Webber BBQ. Essentially a weather proof Exterior Covered Entertaining Space. Trendy Chandelier, Tables & Chairs for relaxing or eating Dinner Al Fresco.

The House enjoys a position set East to West, with huge grounds - Part is laid to a Large Park Garden, planted with Mature Fruit Trees including: Figs, Olives, Cherries, Apples and Walnuts later in the year.

A fenced in shallow Brook carries all kinds of small fish through the back garden, giving opportunities for a Line and Hook or a Bucket for the younger amongst us.

There are many further on site activities including sheltered Private Areas to read a good book - Or just chill out in the Hammock or on one of the various Terraces - Perhaps take a Sun bed and find some shade in the Garden - Why go out and be a tourist...?

There is also plenty of Car Parking across the road, or more secure parking at the The Winery - Where the Private Drive from the heart of the village opens in to Farm Land and Vineyards that make up part of the original estate.

* An Optional Air Conditioning Package is available at Additional Cost, Please enquire - Electric Fans are provided as standard and are Free of Charge.

** Guests & House Guests (Those visiting / staying over night by prior arrangement with the owners) & PETS by request at Le Manoir.

Family Holiday & 60th Party Celebrations
Had a wonderful stay, renting both homes so we could accommodate a large group of family and friends. Everything was perfect. Melanie and Jay helped us get amazing caterers for the party and put us in contact with a french trio, who performed and were amazing. Loved our time in Canet. The village is pretty with everything you need within a short walk.

Great holiday with extended family group
We had a great fortnight at Le Manoir with two sets of grandparents, 6 parents and 5 kids. The house was well equipped for a large group with plenty of kitchen equipment and both indoor and outdoor tables and chairs for all. The bedrooms and ensuite were all well appointed and had nice touches such as luxury hand soap in all bathrooms. We appreciated the complimentary welcome provisions and made good use of the honesty wine cellar. The pool was a huge hit with us and we had great fun enjoying the water all fortnight. The village of Canet is mostly quiet and pleasant and provides a bakery, grocery shop, pizza restaurant and bar all less than 5 minutes walk from the house. The kids also enjoyed the all-weather football pitch across the road from the house. The only noise to disturb the peace was the tractors transporting the grape harvest which was in full swing during our stay. The house is well placed for many great days out and activities. Our recommendations are: Beach at Gruissan Inflatable assault course at Lac de la Cavayere la Grillade at Ventenac Les Halles at Narbonne Canoeing on the Aude at puicheric The canal du midi Thanks for a great family holiday!

Lovely château -near the sea and beaches
We rented Le Manoir and The Old Winery with a large group of friends with their young children. What an amazing place it is - we had a wonderful and magical week. The rooms were immaculate and perfect for families. We appreciated the comfortable beds and nice bathrooms. The kids loved the pool and have hardly been away from it. Adults also enjoyed cooling off in it ! Dinner from the in house cook was a fabulous experience in the grand dining room and we would recommend that to anyone coming... a real treat ! Melanie and Jay were wonderful hosts too....Thank you and we will be revisiting shortly!

What a joy!
What a joy to stay at this wonderful Manoir!!! We took over the whole house with our family and a number of close friends - big and small, everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a sense of history and serenity about this place while being brilliantly situated to enjoy the best sites of the Aude and the Languedoc in general. Melanie and Jay were spectacular hosts and our dinner parties prepared by the cook were brilliant. Thank you so much for all the marvellous memories!

Wonderful French Period property - Two Pools !
We revisited the property near the end of the season with a large family group. Such fun tasting all the wines of this region when visiting all the wine domaines. The weather was still sunny and very pleasant ....and we had fabulous walks along the Canal du Midi. Melanie and Jay were very helpful to us and were at hand to advise where to go to and which restaurants to try out ....Cafe du Port was a real hit along the Canal du Midi. The house was stunning....wonderful French features, spacious beds and a feel of luxury throughout ! Thank you for making the holiday special !

Fabulous Chateau amongst vineyards and near sea.
We came back to Canet and rented the whole Maison de Maitre ( wine chateau) for a wonderful gathering for our friends 60 th Birthday. We used the in house catering for a six course dinner on a couple of evenings....what a treat that was! We went on a wine tour, explored Carcasonne and ventured to Pezenas too. The pools were lovely and the gardens too. Very comfortable beds and large showers with plenty of hot water for 22 people in our group. Melanie and Jay were helpful and advised us on restaurants and events. Thank you for a great holiday! We even had an art day for our group down on the Canal du Midi....such fun. We will certainly recommend you to our friends for special occasions....

Wonderful holiday in a period French Mansion!
We went away with a group of friends and took over the whole stunning property - which was amazing. Two pools, acres of grounds with fig trees in and cherry trees...then a short stroll to the vineyards and The Canal du Midi. Around 20 of us stayed here, with a special dinner that was catered for. Decoration was fabulous, beds great and plenty of space with period features everywhere. We explored the surrounding area, with wine tours with Wendy, had a boat trip down the Canal du Midi and enjoyed days on the beaches at Gruissan. Thank you for a fabulous holiday and we will pass your details onto friends for future bookings.

Wonderful stay over the two properties!
We have just had a fabulous stay over the two properties with many friends celebrating a special birthday. Our party took over the whole place, with two swimming pools, games room and acres of garden leading onto vineyards. We did the Wendy Gedney wine tour - a whole day out which was amazing, and did a river trip on the Canal du Midi. The house is a period property with wonderful features and high ceilings, and everything has been newly renovated. The beds are super kingsize and the showers are fabulous. We hired your cook for several nights and really enjoyed being catered for also. Thank you to Melanie and Jay for being so helpful and advising us on our stay. We hope to come back soon.....

Le Manoir and the Old Winery
We have had a great week and enjoyed the house and the surrounding area. Our party took over both properties this time to celebrate our friends 50th Birthday party. The house fulfilled our needs very well and is very well equipped, beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms modern and efficient. We loved the back terrace area for socialising and the shade canopy was handy as we were lucky in experiencing hot, sunny weather during our stay. Many happy hours were spent around the large swimming pool. A great place to spend a holiday for a special gathering with around 20 of our friends. Many Thanks!

We previously lived in the South of England, where it was easy to take The Tunnel or Ferry for day trips....Or the yearly Holiday further into France or beyond...But the trips were never long enough......

- The opportunity arose to make the move permanently and so we took it !

We bought the Le Manoir de Canet d'Aude early in 2012 - It is now a stunning example of a Belle Epoque Mansion.

With my wife being an Interior Designer and myself as self appointed Project Manager, we have thoroughly enjoyed a year sympathetically renovating it back to it's former glory.

This has included completely renovating and redecorating it and the addition of 6 high quality luxury en suite Shower Rooms and 3 Large Family Bathroom / Shower Rooms, all with Marble Tiles and Hans Grohe fittings.

We used all quality materials including Farrow and Ball Paints and Osborne and Little Wallpapers to gain the right quality feel.

Please visit our website at www.le-manoir.net

Why they chose this property

We were looking for the Classic Dream French Property, located on the edge of a village (for fresh bread and coffee each morning) and within the Languedoc region for the Full Living Experience......and we really feel we have found it.

The Languedoc is an exciting and still emerging area - Stay here, rent a Bike or a Citroen 2cv locally and just explore.

Please visit our websites at www.le-Manoir.net & www.the-old-winery.com for further details.

What makes this property unique

THE WEATHER ! - Sunny 320+ Days a Year, due to our micro climate - Close to Quality Sandy Beaches and the world famous UNESCO sites of The City of Carcassonne and The Canal Du Midi.

Surrounded by Hundreds Of Acres of Stunning Vineyards and The Open Countryside of the Languedoc - This is where the first vines in France were planted.....and so unsurprisingly this is the Largest Wine Producing Area.

We are lucky also to be minutes from the Canal du Midi, dotted with its many Good Restaurants to serve the Thousands of People from the Canal Boats that moor for Lunch or in the evening for Dinner.

Unspoilt, Charming Villages with their Signature Architecture.

Half an hour to a choice of Beaches and Ports for Eating out.

The Lake at Homps, for when the Beaches are windy.

Near to the Cathedral City of Narbonne for all other practical needs.

+ The UNESCO World Heritage site of Carcassonne just 40 Minutes.
