Rustic but romantic and private

This little cottage in Playa Grande is a diamond in the rough. The community is secure, with a gate and security guards at night. The roads are bumpy (but that is the norm in Costa Rica) and it feels like you're on the edge of a jungle, but the setting reminds you to get away from it all. The beach access is a 4-minute walk and is untainted because it's in a national park. The sunsets were remarkable. Overall it was just what we needed.

Beautiful home

We loved staying at this location because the beach is just a short walk and Tamarindo was close to walk as well. Great restaurants around the home and they had a small super market walking distance! Loved the hammock also.

Beautiful Jungle Getaway Near the Beach

We loved our stay at Casa Rustica! My fiancé and I stayed here for a few days before our elopement in Tamerindo and had a great time. We enjoyed the privacy and the time we got to spend on the beautiful beaches to decompress from all the planning before our big day. This little community is such a blissful treasure and we will be back. P.S. Highly recommend eating at Rip Jacks.

Cozy and close to the beach

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Rustica 2. The home is light and open, is very clean, has a functional kitchen, and it is wonderful to eat or just relax outside on the patio. Although not located right on the beach, the walking distance is very short and rewarding. Sunsets are beautiful on the beach and in November, the temperature was perfect and we practically had the beach to ourselves. Sharr was wonderful at answering the questions we had and has got everything you need for a picnic on the beach.

Sad to leave

Our second visit to Casa Rustica and it doesn’t disappoint! The people, the area, the home… amazing! The construction in the area is less amazing due to the noise it creates. We were fortunate that the neighbours shut down the noisy aspects for the Christmas holidays (23-30) but if you are planning to hang out in the peace and quiet on the deck… now is not that time. No worries, the beach is pristine, the restaurants are fabulous and Tamarindo is just a short walk and boat ride away. Plenty to do away from the Casa and the noise is generally shut it down by 6pm (7am start).

Expectations Exceeded!

No need to duplicate what everyone else has already said about this property. Sharr’s communication was top notch and made the check-in super easy. Have to take issue with the three-star review left by Larry; the location is amazing, and it’s more like a three minute walk to the beach, not a half mile. If the wind is blowing onshore, it sounds like the ocean is the back yard. Even at 95 and humid, taking refuge from the mid-day beach sun on the back patio was more than delightful. Tastefully decorated with everything you need for a great vacation. We spent 15 days here with our 16 year old son and would come back in heartbeat. One thing for families to consider; it was was cozy for three full-sized humans. Four would be a push. Great for a family with two SMALL children.

Amazing stay steps from the beach

The casa and surrounding area (beach, resturants, town) are absolutely fantastic and were exactly what my husband and I needed for our week of vacation. We spent a blissful week of walking between the beach and the casa several times each day. Leading up to our time there, i was very concerned by one recent review relating to construction in the area. When i reached out to Sharr, she was very responsive and gave me consistent updates on the status of construction and set our minds at ease. Going into our week at the casa, I had several backup plans in the event that the construction was a problem. In our experience, the construction was not a problem. None of the activities (while ongoing) were particularly loud and the spaces are physically seperated by an ~8' wall and very lush well developed greenery, so there were no concerns around privacy. From inside the casa we could not hear any activities at all. During our time, Sharr was very thoughtful and communicative and even helped us to find other houses in the area when we were looking to extend our trip (the casa was booked ☹ or we would have continued our stay there). We had a wonderful time and definitely plan to return. ***My husband has asked me to also include a note on how great it was to have the charcoal grill.

Convenient yet tucked away

This property is in a perfect location - within walking distance to the beach, including the ferries to Tamarindo should you choose to go into town during your stay, but quietly tucked away from the larger surrounding properties that host significantly more travelers. I stayed for about a week and the casita had all the items necessary for comfort - the kitchen was well equipped for cooking my daily meals, the air conditioners worked perfectly, the back patio was perfect for leisurely breakfasts and sharing wine with new friends and having the music channels on the tv, private laundry and extra soft linens were the icing on the cake. As a single traveler I also appreciated that the property, while very private, is also just close enough to other rentals so I didn’t feel completely alone or scared walking home. Sharr is a wonderful, kind host and you can tell she takes immense pride in providing sun-filled retreats for her guests. I enjoyed the conversation with her and all of the extra touches waiting for me at check-in. A perfect week of rest and relaxation! Note this is a jungle home so you will likely have a few critter friends around, but as a repeat traveler to Costa Rica, this is expected and part of the tropical life. :)

Construction noise

This is very hard to do. The casita was beautiful, in a beautiful neighborhood and you can walk to beaches and restaurants. The house next door is under construction, which is occurring all over the area. Our first week, they were putting on the roof using saws to cut sheet metal and tile. The noise was ear piercing. They started at 7 am and continued until 9 pm most days. They worked 7 days a week and then some of the workers appeared to be camping there and would play music at night. I complained after a week, and Sharr informed me that the construction manager told her that it would end the following day. Then the back hoe came in to dig ditches all day and they would let the engine idle next to our adjoining wall. As we left this morning, the saws were going again starting at 7am. I wished Sharr would have warned us and reduced our rate. The inside of the construction house has not been finished. I expect construction for at least 6 more months. That said, we would come back in a heartbeat in a year. I would not book his year.

Construction Site Next Door

I was really looking forward to a peaceful and quiet stay at Casa Rustica 2. I really wanted to relax and swing in the hammock. Other reviews were very positive and said how quiet the location was. The place itself was clean and very nice. It was close to the beach and the area has nice restaurants and relaxed vibe. Unfortunately, we left because of the construction next door. Yes, the property next door is an active construction site. We arrived in the afternoon and the construction noise and music from the workers next door continued until after 7 PM. They started again at 6 AM the next morning. We could watch the construction workers from the patio so there really was no privacy. The owner never notified us there would be construction and we would not have booked this location had we been aware. All we wanted was a quiet and relaxing vacation. When we told the owner we were leaving, she didn't respond and when we sought a refund through VRBO, she refused although we only stayed one night. VRBO has been no help. If you are looking to stay at this property, make sure there is no construction next door.

Beautiful Casa Rustica

We stayed in Casa Rustica 2 February 2020. We are two adults and found the Casa everything that you could need on a getaway. The Casa is in a quiet area, close to the beach and several bars/restaurants. We found the area safe and clean. Neil was our contact for the week and you couldn’t ask for better assistance. The weather was perfect, nice winds to enjoy on the huge porch under the tree lined yard. We saw howler monkeys, lots of parrots, other birds, a raccoon, a tons if iguanas in the yard. We ate breakfast in the Casa everyday then ventured elsewhere for lunch and dinner. Highly recommend this location if you like peace and quiet.

A little slice of Paradise

This casa is everything you need for a trip to Costa Rica. The home was very clean, the owners are extremely accommodating and easy to reach, the area is clean and the people are very friendly. My family and I do not have a bad thing to say about our stay at Casa Rustica 2. We came to Costa Rica to celebrate with 26 family members, all renting different places and we had the best place by far! The home is gated and surrounded by lush greenery. We were visited by many different creatures each day which was so cool to see up close. Our 8 year old daughter couldn't get enough of the wild life and beauty surrounding the property. We ate at the local café Azul a couple of times, the food there is convenient and delicious. Huertos just outside the gates was our favorite place to eat for dinner. Great Pizza! The beach is a short less than 2-3 minute walk. We saw many animals each day walking to and from the beach and the sunsets are spectacular. I have never seen such beautiful sunsets. We fully recommend this place and we will be back to Palm Beach Estates and Casa Rustica 2 in the near future!

Perfect little getaway!

Perfect Little Oasis

My boyfriend and I stayed at Casa Rustica for a week ! It was such a nice break from the typical Colorado winter. The house is tastefully decorated and is equipped with all of the basic necessities you would need during a trip. We made a couple dinners in as well as explored the local restaurants within the estates along with the tiki bars ;) Tamarindo was very easy to get to with a water taxi from hotel bula bula within the estates. A day and night and Tamarindo was our favorite with a sunset Catamaran tour. Lots of fun birds to see around the casa along with howler monkeys and the iguanas. It was truly an unforgettable experience! And playa grande was nice too ;) 5 minute walk from the house and plenty chill. No crowds at all! Can’t wait to return ! Pura Vida !

Website false representation

When we made our reservation the website made it sound like the house was right on the beach. In reality it was a half mile walk down a hot dusty road to the beach. We had to pay every time to take a boat to get across a river mouth to the markets and resturants. The house was satisfactory with an alarm and safe but ants got in and were annoying. A plus, we were safe and felt safe.
