Tranquil getaway

Our stay was peaceful and comfortable. It had a beautiful view of the river. The loft was cozy, homey and clean and had everything we needed. We could stay here again and again.

Cozy base camp

Stayed as a launch point to la push beach one day and to cape flattery second day. Was very relaxing hearing the river rapids so close. The kitchen had everything we needed to make some meals, but most importantly a lot of coffee. Even though it was a studio it felt much bigger. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Even Better than the Pictures

We arrived after dark with light rain and were trying to figure out if we were in the right spot. It took a minute to check the address and get the check in instructions out. The host was so kind, she came out to check on us and help if necessary. The space was extremely clean, comfortable, and the thoughtfulness of the items stocked were much more than expected. She even had a couple of flashlights and a lantern if we wanted to go down out to the river or whatever. Tons of towels available; extra blankets, shampoo, body wash, dish soap, etc were all completely full (it wasn't like we were using the rest of the last guest). Games & movies available if needed (we did not.. we were on the go from sunup to sundown) It just seemed that a lot of thought was put into stocking items and I really felt like we were treated as guests. As for the location... I could not believe how amazing the spot was. It was absolutely gorgeous, convenient to several areas of Olympic National Park. We were able to visit the Hurricane Ridge area (unfortunately NPS closed off that road a couple miles in), Sol Duc, Crescent Lake, Rialto Beach, Hoh Rainforest. Oh my gosh.. if visiting the area, this was the PERFECT spot. We even drove up to Neah Bay. Between the amazing location, the beautiful grounds, and the hospitality, this is definitely the right spot to choose. I wish I could post a picture I took the last day with the door open, showing the view of Sol Duc River. It was gorgeous.

Beautiful Hidden Gem

Lovely location near Sol Duc River. Had everything you need all you need to do is bring yourself. The sound of the river is so peaceful. We enjoyed every minute we were there. Finding the home was exactly as shown on maps. Accessing the cottage was exactly as expected. Directions left inside were perfect. There was just enough of what we needed to make ourselves feel at home. I hope to use this cottage again in the future. :)

Stay by the River

We had a great time staying in the Loft by the Sol Duc River. It was centrally located place for trips to Neah Bay, Rialto Beach, and the Hoh River Rain Forest. The kitchen and grill are well appointed; the bed is comfortable; and the Loft as a whole is quite comfortable. It is a very nice place, and we look forward to coming back again.

Fantastic Accomodations

The place was very spacious though its only 400 sq feet with all the amenities - microwave, a small fridge, oven, stove, coffee maker, toaster and tons of towels in the bathroom. There was dish soap, handsoap, bath soap, shampoo and conditioner and even fragrance free moisturiser in the bathroom along with tissues. The kitchen had lot of plates, mugs and utensils to cook. The place was very bright and comfortable with a nice bed and a sofa that pulls out as a bed(the best pull out bed that I had slept on). The outside patio had a grill and a small table with two chair to enjoy the morning coffee looking at the beautiful river and trees outside. The place had a lot of books along with a few DVDs and a few board games. The outside is so beautiful, quiet with just the flowing river. So peaceful and calming. Definitely will recommend this place for anyone who wants a comfortable, cozy place and enjoy nature.

Peaceful escape and jumping off point for Olympic

We had an amazing stay and had everything we needed. We knew the space was on the small side, but it was super functional for cooking, sleeping, and relaxing. Plus, having the lawn and river for our boys to spread out along with outdoor tables for coffee or picnicking made it all feel just perfect!

Serene stay

The Loft is as advertised, if not better. The location is central to so many hiking areas of the HOH rainforest and Lake Crescent. Brenda was extremely accommodating and was prompt with any questions that came up. The Sol Duc river runs right through the property and it was the most serene view after a long day of hiking. The stay was perfect for 2 people. 3 people would be ok but probably a little tight when thinking of luggage and other personals that might make it crowded. The small details and cleanliness put it over the top. Would HIGHLY recommend staying here. We would stay here again.

Exceeds Expectations

What a FABULOUS site - both in the sense of the beauty of the river and the lawn leading down to it and in the sense of being located well for visiting various places on the west and north sides of Olympic National Park - ie ocean, rain forest, hot springs and mountains (Hoh, Sol Duc, Crescent Lake, Hurricane Ridge, etc). Also enjoyed Neah Bay - been to region many times over the years, but never made it to Neah Bay before. Recommend the museum there and Point Flattery. Also the accommodations quite comfortable and the kitchen well equipped.

Lovely Loft

We enjoyed our stay at the Loft! The owners have done a great job making this unique space special. The river and the location are gorgeous. We took advantage of the area and visited the Hoh Rainforest and Rialto Beach. And the price is right. My only complaint is the tiny sink with a tap in a really awkward position — clearly not a deal breaker. I recommend folding up the hideabed daily or it gets cramped.

Wonderful getaway

We enjoyed a much-needed peaceful vacation out in nature, with easy short trips to see the Pacific Ocean beaches and the Hoh Rainforest. It was also great to be able to walk over to the nearby Kloshe Nanitch Lookout trail from some incredible views of the surrounding area and then cool off in the river afterwards. The Loft was surprisingly quiet considering its location near the highway and we appreciated the full kitchen with its utensils and dishware for cooking.

Such a cute property with great all around character. Huge property space with the river running by and only a very short walk away. Well behaved pets welcome which was a plus. The property had all the amenities including an outside grille which we gladly used and all around very clean and well maintained. The cute cottage was located an an excellent base point to drive nearby to the highly popular points of interest in the area. Highly recommend and would love to stay here again when the opportunity arises. I loved my short stay.

This was our first visit, but we will absolutely book again. We were celebrating our 48th anniversary and this was the relaxing, quiet, gorgeous get away that we were looking for. Spent our days exploring the beaches and rain forest and our evening sitting on the riverbank. Stunning fall colors! We are already planning our return trip.

About the host

Hosted by Property Manager

Host profile image
We are Ted and Brenda Connely. Brenda grew up in Forks. Ted is from Nebraska but has been here on the Olympic Peninsula since 1976. We were living in Port Angeles when we found our river place. A friend mentioned the property might be available. We bought it and spent every spare moment for the next four years fixing up the old house on the property. One day in March of 2004 Brenda came back to the cabin from work in Port Angeles carrying Sam the cat, who had been the only one occupying the house in Port Angeles most of the time. 'We live here now,' she announced, 'we're always here anyway.' She got no argument from Ted and so the house in Port Angeles was sold and we became full time residents at the cabin. Since the cabin had only one bedroom and no garage, we decided to take care of both problems at once and build a garage with an apartment above. The loft was our guest room until we decided to buy a larger home closer to Forks, still on the river but not as special. We couldn't bring ourselves to sell the Riverside place so we decided to share it with others by turning in into a vacation rental. It has been gratifying to see our guests love it too. So many have told us they don't want to leave at the end of their stay.

Why they chose this property

Even though the property was all grown up with weeds and the house was very run down, we knew at first sight this was our place. The sparkling river running along the edge of the yard, the golden light coming through the trees, just the peaceful feel of the place. Many guests have used the word 'magical' to describe their feelings about the place.

What makes this property unique

We originally bought this property for our own vacation home with no thought of its potential as a vacation rental property. But not only is it a beautiful, relaxing, welcoming spot to stay, it is very handily located within an hour's drive of nearly all the attractions of the northwest section of Olympic National Park. Many guest comment on what a great base camp it is for seeing the park. We have often heard how nice it is to come home to after a day of hiking and exploring to sit by the river, BBQ on the deck, sit by the river, build a fire in the firepit, and sleep in the very comfortable beds.
