Fraser Cottage is one of the Dunmore Cottages on 120 acres of peace and tranquillity on the shores of West Loch Tarbert in South Knapdale, just seven miles from the fishing village of Tarbert on Loch Fyne.

The new owners purchased Dunmore House and Cottages in 2015/16 which sits on a beautiful estate with stunning views over West Loch Tarbert. They have an exciting vision for Dunmore over the coming years, which includes the full renovation of the self-catering cottages. Their aim is to create a fabulous destination on the West Coast of Scotland providing excellent facilities with a homely feel.

The good news is that they have already commenced the renovation of the cottages and the renovation of Fraser Cottage was completed in December 2018. Visit Scotland awarded the cottage 5 stars. Fraser Cottage is a luxury traditional 2 storey stone cottage. The Cottage comprises two ensuite bedrooms on the 1st floor with showers and underfloor warming in the en-suites. The master bedroom has a king size bed and the other bedroom two single beds. Downstairs the kitchen and dining area are fully equipped to the highest standard including dishwasher and Nespresso coffee machine.

The living room has a wood burning stove to provide a lovely cosy feel and a 4k curved screen TV. Patio doors lead out onto the terrace (with table & chairs, gas BBQ and outdoor wood burning heater) and onwards into the garden area where you can catch the morning sun and watch, through the trees, the ferry sail by to the island of Islay several times a day.

The estate is named after the Bronze age fort which tops the spectacular cliffs above the house. These cliffs afford breathtaking views of the West Loch and out to the islands of Gigha and to Islay, famous for its whisky making.
Dunmore Cottages are a perfect vacation retreat either to relax by the open wood fires or enjoy the many outdoor activities that are available. Located on the shores of West Loch Tarbert, and only 7 miles from the picturesque fishing village of Tarbert, guests can enjoy the many hiking trails, and abundant wildlife, take a trip to the nearby Loch Stornoway sandy beach or further afield to the lovely 6 mile long Westport beach, sample the excellent area restaurants (the award winning Kilberry Inn is only 8 miles away), visit the inner Hebridean Islands of Islay and Jura, whisky tasting at the numerous distilleries, visit the historic Kilmartin Glen, walk the beautiful gardens on the Isle of Gigha or Brodick Castle on the Island of Arran.

Tarbert sports a 9-hole golf course. Horseback riding and fishing are also available locally.

Dunmore self catering cottages are very popular for family get togethers and are ideal for children with a large play area.

Dogs are welcome in Fraser Cottage. Ross Cottage is dog free. Please note in Fraser we will accept a maximum of one large/medium dog or two small dogs.

The cottages are available year round. Lettings are from Saturday to Saturday in June, July, August, September, Easter, Whit week, Christmas and New Year; minimum 5 nights in April, May and October; out with these minimum 4 night short breaks are available but always ask for availability by contacting Amanda either by message, email or telephone.
Prices are inclusive of accommodation, linens, cleaning, electricity and logs for the fire.

Idyllic

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It was off the beaten track, well away from the crowds, which is our preference. Fraser Cottage is set is beautiful surrounds, with endless views. The perfect getaway from it all. The property is very tastefully decorated and very warm. There was no need for the log burner. The kitchen has all the equipment you would need and everything was spotless. Bedrooms are spacious and airy, with comfortable beds, thank God. We fully recommend a visit to Fraser Cottage. You’ll not be disappointed!

Fraser is a beautiful cottage, stylishly decorated and appointed and the perfect place to relax in wonderful peaceful grounds. Many lovely places to visit locally with a variety of possible routes to access the Kintyre peninsular makes Tarbert a great location for a holiday.

Perfect

The property is immaculate inside and out. I can't think of a single thing that was missing or was not top of the range. It's remote but not excessively so - as soon as you get used to the single track road you will be zipping into and out of Tarbert. And the big advantage of that is that your peace and quiet won't be disturbed by anything. The location is actually perfect - we went to Islay and Gigha for the day as well as the Mull of Kintyre. None of these trips had excessive driving times. And of course our dog loved the property, the gardens, and the walk to the nearby loch. The weather was pefect. Sunny and cloudless on two days. Can't promise that is normal for the location though, Finally you might be a bit concerned about the limited wi-fi. We are with EE and were able to run everything off mobile hot spots so did not even use it. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

Gorgeous!

Absolutely beautiful accommodations and surrounding area. The cottages are perfectly appointed and very comfortable, supplied with everything you would possibly be. The kitchen was amazing and stocked well with utensils, cooking and serving ware. We enjoyed making many meals together. The ferry to Islay is a short drive away and we enjoyed our day of whiskey tours. You will need to book tickets in advance for your car as it books up quickly. Amanda made us aware of that early on but it was already booked for our planned tour. We parked at the port and rode over to Islay, then took the bus where we needed to go and it worked out fine. We were warmly welcomed by Amanda on arrival and there was a beautiful welcome basket with local goodies and a bottle of Prosecco waiting for us in the kitchen table, so nice! All in all a five star accommodation. The only negative was it is pretty remote. We had to leave a day early to make the drive back to the airport as we had an early flight (our fault). Communication with the owners and Amanda was very easy and they were very responsive. Highly recommend!

Lovely Cottage in a Great Location

Really enjoyed our relaxing stay in this beautiful cottage. The cottage is very well presented and a good location from which to explore the area. Lots of ferries nearby to travel to the islands and beautiful countryside on the doorstep for walks. Will definitely be back.

Fabulous place to stay

Couldn’t fault it. Lovely walks and sunshine and showers so can’t grumble! Visited Westpoint beach and Campbeltown, A fabulous walk along Crinan canal to Lochgilphead and a walk up to the viewpoint at Tarbet. A visit to Skipness Castle again lovely sunshine where we enjoyed a lovely fish lunch?

Everything was of the highest quality and super clean. Very peaceful location and really well situated. Just a few miles from the nearest town. Very accessible for the ferry to Islay - really lovely people.. We will be back!

Stunning property in a stunning location

We had an absolutely wonderful stay in Fraser cottage. It's spacious yet cosy with everything you could need for a very comfortable holiday. It's clear a lot of time and effort has been put into designing the interior. Beautiful outside space, including BBQ and seating area. The location itself is outstanding, you are surrounded by lochs, with mountains and islands all close by. Would highly recommend this property. Thank you for letting us stay!

A wonderful find!

We stayed for 5 nights in the stunning Fraser Cottage and could not fault anything. The property is beautifully presented and has everything you could wish for. The location is perfect for a peaceful, relaxing break, with lots to explore in the surrounding area. We enjoyed watching the swallows in the garden as well as the visiting sheep!

Beautiful and faultless.

We stayed here with our two young children (ages 6 and 8)......the cottage was simply perfect......clean, well kept, with all modern appliances (every single thing you could wish for). The location is wonderful. Simply put, it is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the world imaginable.....it is impossible to not find the view over to Jurra, or over to Arran, or the trips to Gigha beautiful!!!!! Amanda the host was extremely helpful and simply wonderful. It's impossible to fault this place....it is FANTASTIC! My personal favorite......sitting out at the front and having a breakfast including an espresso from, the espresso machine and looking out over the rolling countryside. This cottage has it all, to my mind and I heartily recommend it to all with no reservation whatsoever!

Fabulous Stay

We really enjoyed the cottage and quietness of the location. We had everything we needed for a relaxing week. Slept so well as beds were really comfortable . We appreciated all the little touches such as welcome hamper, lovely toiletries in the bathroom and nice messages. The communication was excellent and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

Tranquil retreat

An absolutely beautiful cottage in a stunning location. Very well and tastefully furnished, spacious outdoor space with barbecue and seating area with views of the loch. A lovely welcome hamper and a warm welcome from both the owners and the host. Plenty to visit in the area- wonderful scenery, and loved the red squirrels and deer in the woods. Would definitely recommed- you won't be disappointed!

We had a fabulous break at Fraser Cottage and it definitely deserves a 5 star review! Amanda and Philippa were wonderful to deal with, the cottage was beautifully done out with everything you need and it was a great location to explore the area. Beautiful secluded cottage

If you're looking for a secluded place to stay, then this is the place to be. Everything we needed was available to us at the cottage. Correspondance with the owner and the Manager were first class. Lovely hamper and card also left out for us arriving, with some chocolate biscuits too. A lovely touch. Beautifully modern cottage and no need to leave unless you want to see the sights.

Luxury accommodation in a fantastic location

Property is immaculately presented with absolutely everything you could need on a holiday. Furnishings are of an exceptionally high quality and overall the accommodation is perfect. The location was perfect for us. Close enough to amenities and within reasonable travelling distance to some beautiful, white, sandy beaches and lovely towns providing good quality options for eating out. We would definitely highly recommend this holiday property.

Peaceful Break

We stayed here for 4 nights in early June and thoroughly enjoyed our time. Cottage is so comfortable / beautifully furnished and the kitchen is exceptionally well equipped. We were lucky enough to have suitable weather to sit on the patio to eat dinner a couple of nights and were delighted to be able to make use of the gas bbq to cook the steaks to perfection. Good base for travelling around this lovely part of the country.

Little Piece of Heaven

The description and photographs don't do justice to the lovely Fraser Cottage. Had a great 5 nights break, the cottage was a real home from home and had everything we needed and more. Attractive, peaceful surroundings with lovely walks on the estate. Great base for touring Kintyre and definitely somewhere we will be paying a return visit.

Perfect Getaway

Part of me doesn't want to give Fraser Cottage too good a review as then other people will discover it! Myself, my partner and our two young daughters had a much needed 3 night break here recently and it was perfect. The cottage is finished to a very high standard and has everything you need. We even managed a couple of games of football in the large grassy area outside. Thank you for having us, we hope to be back.
