About this property

Bunnylane Cottontail Cabin "Pay it Forward"

This is a "Pay it Forward" cabin, I did my part you do yours, "Thank You"

The cabin is approximately 700 square feet. It has a seperate bedroom with a QUEEN bed, a living room with a fold out couch (QUEEN size),a dinning room and a snack bar in between the living room and the kitchen. There are two doors that exit the cabin onto the deck, one from the bedroom and the other from the living room. Once on the deck there is a door into the bathhouse area. There is a wood stove for heat and a few small electric heaters ( please conserve electricity). Turn off electric heaters when leave. Thank You.

Each cabin is fully furnished with refrigerator, microwave, popcorn popper, pots, pans, dishes, silverware, coffeepot, toaster, electric hot plates, electric skillets, crock pot and other misc. kitchen equipment. NO full size oven in this cabin, only cabin with oven is Wild Hare and the Little Dome.

Outside there is a gas grill, charcoal grill and a fire pit.
{ Wood available on property for purchase for outside fires)

There is a central bathhouse that can be used by all guests in the Cottontail, Thumper and Rabbit Den, The Wild Hare has its own bathroom which is to be used only by guests in the Wild Hare in the summer months. The Bathhouse is attached at the end of the yellow timed cabin (Cottontail). It has one shower, one toilet and a sink. There is also an outhouse located at the opposite end of the property (see property layout) for those not wanting to wait for the toilet at the bathhouse.

PLEASE, be respectful of all guests and leave clean, remind children to do the same.

I do have internet upon request, I want people to spend time together not by texting but by bonding as the old days. I will give you the password but I do not want down loading movies or streaming music, it will slow or shut down from overuse, business only.
"Do not give to children tell them to play games,puzzles,catch/kick ball, enjoy the out doors"

IT IS SUGGESTED YOU BRING THE FOLLOWING,
Remember, this is your cabin and others in the mountains "Cheers"
Linens or sleeping bags and pillow cases
Towels and dish cloths
Toilet paper and paper towels
Trash Bags
"Provided are pillows and blankets, not pillowcases"

All can be provided for a fee but advanced notice is a must, minimum cost is $25 per bed, includes bedding(top and bottom sheet), 2 pillow cases, 2 towels, 2 wash cloths.

"Firewood is available for purchase on the property for outside fires"

Cabin price based on 2 people all extra guests and pets are $10 more per night. Make sure you verify all before arrival. This is your home and others in the mountains, surprises are good but not the type that is to sneak one over on Jeff or the other guests on the property. Like you tell me one pet and got 5, or one guest and I arrive to find a tent and a camper. Thank You, All and Jeff

If you bring extra guests (people or pets) and did not include when booking it is best you inform Jeff immediately and /or use the drop box on the property located at Jeff's house. If you do not inform Jeff/use the drop box , you will be charged double when leave. This will come out of your damage deposit. That is $20 per night for each and not $10. HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY. (OR) you will lose your deposit. I am tired of people not the pets trying to get over on me and me letting it happen. It took two many years to fix these places up, never getting paid and now, I just wanted to be treated as I ask. Thank You Jeff and all honest guests!

"WHEN DO YOU WANT TO RENT, SEE BELOW"

There is a 2-night minimum, but exceptions can be made if cabins are rented the nights before or after the night you want.
“Exceptions can be made”,,, as long as rentals tie into another, it is on weekdays or you are able to make an offer that that justifies the time to talk about it. Have a Great Day,, Thank You ,,Jeff

Amazing location, perfect weekend- shocking charges after the trip
The property was absolutely beautiful and everything we wanted for the weekend. Checkin process was super simple as long as you read all of the details in the listing. It was shocking to be charged an additional $120 for member that were not present in our cabin over the weekend stay...We did not get the deposit back either and were clear to inform of the additional guest prior to arriving. Im not aure if they charge by viewing camera on the propery or how they determine who gets charged, however this is a huge error and once payment was requested the owner will not respond....Bummer, really wanted to go back again some day

honest
Quiet, peaceful, no real issues. It is rustic, if that is what you are looking for. Kids had issue with the bathroom cleanliness. It states its a pay forward, or cleanup after yourself - not everyone does. Lastly, someone was smoking in the bathroom, which was annoying, and did not air it out. But I was looking for rustic and in the mountains and that was exactly what I got. I was satisfied.

A second home amidst the Collegiate Peaks
This is the third time I’ve stayed at this property, and it has become like our second home in one of the most beautiful parts of the state. I’ve taken my 7 year old son twice, now. It’s an incredibly quaint cabin, with many things to do nearby. One of our favorites is to enjoy the Mt. Princeton hot springs (only five minutes away). Buena Vista is nearby, as well as a huge number of places for all kinds of outdoor activities. Jeffrey, Brent and Diane are great. I had a dead battery upon leaving, and they didn’t hesitate to give me a jump. They sent us on our way after giving my son cookies and a pocket knife. I highly recommend this cabin!

Nice cabin get-a-way
My Son and his fiance stayed here. They said it was a nice cabin and a beautiful setting. A little hard to find, but they found it. Had some trouble with the pellet stove, but that may have just been my son not having used one before! He said it would be awesome in the summertime!

carpet filthy, throw rugs filthy, vacuum needs cleaning or repair, to many signs for do's and don'ts. Appliances need good cleaning. We didn't cook here due to cleanliness of pots and pans. Bathroom shower was dirty. Furniture was dirty, bedding needs cleaning. Good location. won't stay here again.

Exactly what I needed
I was in desperate need of some time to myself. I wanted somewhere quiet, old fashioned, with the high mountains all around me, to reflect and leave refreshed. This place felt like home. It’s just like it’s described, and the details were very thoughtfully laid out. Good books, games, a CD player… It’s perfectly nostalgic. It’s just far enough from Buena Vista to be in its own area, but it’s only about 20 minutes. I also did a couple of hot springs, to relax. There’s one only five minutes away. The owner is respectfully distant, to give you your own space, but he communicates well. Lots of other good things. I’ll definitely be back. My six year old boy would love it.

Not as expected
Upon arrival my stomach turned. The view and location was nothing like what was depicted in the pictures. The cabin does not have a view of the water (and the water is fenced off from the property) and the location is not private by any means. The cabin in situated in the middle of the property, surrounded by other cabins, as if you are on display. The front porch furniture is old, worn out, and is not porch furniture, but rather indoor furniture that has been retired to the porch. Upon entry of the cabin you are welcomed with the smell of dust and mildew. Though the cabin had been cleaned, nothing has been updated in years. As disappointed as we were with the location and uncomfortable cabin this was not the biggest issue. My husband and I began to look around and we could not find the restroom. After further investigation we discovered the community bathhouse actually is referring to a community restroom that is shared among several other cabins and each guest is responsible for cleaning following each use. I do realize this is my fault for not reading the description in detail and asking more questions before booking. I made the assumption that bathhouse was referring to hot springs/hot tub (considering this is hot springs country). I just had never experienced anything like this booking with VRBO. We reluctantly decided this was not an acceptable accommodation and immediately left the premise. We booked another cabin (at a cheaper price) and enjoyed our stay in Colorado. We did try contacting the property manager whose only response was, "This is a pay it forward cabin. I did my part, now do yours." Incredibly disappointed but lesson learned.

Pleasantly Surprised!
At first, I was skeptical about the “Pay it Forward” concept. I expected to arrive at the cabin and would immediately have to clean before it would be “livable.” Much to my surprise, the cabin was spotless! The bathhouse was also in tip-top shape. I will defend motels be staying here again!

Biggest Mistake of my life related to CHOICES - Filthy place, RUDE EGO- Centric owner
I rarely make reviews because mostly my experiences are great, good, or moderate, or just bad. Even if its worse sometimes you feel like you are better of using that time on something else. Now with “Bunnylane Cabins” I thought go out of my way, and spent some time to review so it will especially help future guests. In a nutshell if I knew better I would stay away from it. Don’t get attracted to the cheap rental fee. Spend few $$ and have a non-regretting time at a cleaner place, and deal with professional owners and property managers somewhere else. I dont have space to write too much let me put in pointed form. Also when I explain the real details Homeaway moderators did not like it. So I am cutting down some fact and real info. 1. Owner does not maintain it well like before (like the pictures are showing: - Dirty and dusty patio - Filthy rugs - Old dirty carpet with dog pee - Dusty interior with ashes (from the old fire place, no proper heaters tehre) - Unclean filthy bathroom (its a common bathroom for all units attached out side the house with out side door. In freezing cold you have to walk outside the house with kids when u need to us it) - Unclean dishes - No furnace oil or box of matches or lighters to the fire place - Very old unusable kitchenware. 2. When we check in that night was a disaster because the place was not ready. - Door were open in freezing temp - No proper heating, firewood was wet, no lighter, no fuel - Chiminey was blocked. Maintenance had to climb the roof in the night to clean it. 3. Owner pretend like friendly but seems to have an agenda to keep money form your deposit. 4. Policies and management. Its is managed as if we stay free. Owner try to make you work - You are asked to fill firewood inside the house and outside the house before leave - You are asked to leave the left over food or good food for the owner. And in the same department if you overlooked something he will penalize you. (We left bunch of food for him. We left an untouched dish of jelly (dessert). He claimed that we left an uncleaned dish in the fridge. I in fact told him before about the dessert when i leave. Very dissapointed. Also we gave v him a plate of food for thanksgiving. Owners words – “Cabins are my babies, guests are my children” .. it should be revised as “Cabins are my babies, guests are my vicitims"

Born a carpenter wanted to be a mechanic, ended up an electrician and now hospitality manager. :)
Where to start, hhmm, how time goes bye, Someone once told me, You know when you start this "Bunnylane Cabins" you are going to have to deal with people. I told them, "No", people will have to deal with me, my place my rules".
Some of my favorite sayings
1. Ignorance is Temporary, Attitude is forever
2. Forgiveness is the fragrance the flower left upon the foot that trampled it into the
ground.
3. Engage brain before opening mouth
I was born and raised in this area and still growing up. I look at these cabins as my babies and my guests my children. I have done my part now my children take care of my babies and together they take care of me. Sounds good coming from someone that was never a parent, I think that would be the dream of a parent. Having children that you know are respected by many for just being what they are, everyone involved with them know they will take care of you and you will take care of them.
This reminds me of my theory on working, Surround yourself with good people, they will take care of you and you will take care of them, which will make every ones life better.
A break down of my life, high school in Buena Vista, then the Marine Corp and volunteer for every thing that came up, overseas duty, jungle survival, etc. Once out of USMC, got into construction, houses, schools, power plants, Telluride Airport, pump stations, fresh water and waste water plants, etc. Then projects in Hawaii, Kuai, top of Mauna Kea, volcano national park, Kuai missile range, then Johnston Atoll Chemical burn facility, Adak , Alask, then Micronesia, Diego Garcia in the Indian ocean and much more.
Then on my own to Russia, Costa Rica, Belize, Jamaica, Colombia, Panama, etc.
A few years back, New Zealand, couch surf, hitch hike then rent a car, freedom camping, picking up all hitchhikers and taken them wherever they wanted to go.
Life is truly what you make it, ;) Jeff

Why they chose this property

Location, Location, Location
When I bought this place I saw the potential it had, just as I see in people.
When I bought this place I just got out of the Marines, well 2 years after I got out and had already learned carpentry from my dad, electric from another, plumbing from my uncle and the ability to see from my mother that do not expect anything to be given to you.
My Uncle drove out here and said I heard you bought this boy, I said, Yes. He asked what I was going to do with it. I told him fix this( My house) place up then that one(Cottontail) and rent it out then possibly that one(Rabbit Den or Lodge) and then that one(Thumper) and I am not sure about that one(Wild Hare). I said, What do you think or see, Chet? He said , you really want to know what I see. I said , Sure. He said, All I see is a lot of work. I chuckled and after 35 years still chuckling and working . That is why I say I did my part , you do yours. I do not need no more work. I traveled around the planet working, came home and worked then left again to work. People say, you are so lucky going to Hawaii, I said yes 6 days a week 10 to 12 hours a day, well, life is what you put into it and you get out what you put in if everything goes good. The Filipinos once asked me, What is your favorite beer? I said , Free beer. So they laughed and said so free beer is your favorite? I said,, hhhmmm ,"No". They asked what is better than free beer? I said . "Cold , Free beer."
I like people with a good attitude in life so if I can bring them around me , even if I never meet them I know their good attitude and positive energy will part of this place.
Thank You all for reading my words , if you come here great, just know. I created this place or brought it back to life for all to enjoy and take care of, so it can take care of all of us, I did my part you do yours. Cheers "Semper Fi", "Pura Vida", "Aloha"

What makes this property unique

Meeting other people that wanted a place in the mountains to get away from the hussel and bussel of the city, someone with similar interests and the respect as you or not meeting anyone, just relax and do whatever you want. You have access to just about everything, high lakes, trails or bushwhacking, fishing in the lake 200 yards away or the creek. The Colorado trail goes through the property so you take off from here on your mountain bike or just do some real good day hikes or morning/evening hikes up the old railroad grade. Got to St, Elmo the historic ghost town, where you can just think about what went on 100 plus years ago. Also feeding the chipmunks in the summer time is a highlight to many.
Go to the hot springs , Mt. Princeton or Cottonwood hot springs, Mt Princeton is more like a resort but has soaking pools in the creek that are nice during low water, a water slide, and 3 pools , where Cottonwood has a different look on things like clothing optional after dark.
Once here you will do as you want, plans will change and the time will slip past , so keep that in mind. Make some plans but do whatever you want, go rock hounding, rafting, hike a mountain, set and stare, a drive to Aspen and back, go to the local pubs and art stores or get a broom and brush of the spider weds or pick up branches, wash some windows, play some horse shoes, star gaze at night, walk to the lake and do a canon ball, dive in and swim across a true wake up call. Feed your wild side , roast some marshmallows, make smores, all good this is your home in the mountains, Enjoy
