The house was beautiful and it was nice being close to the beach. The access to beach is a workout but well worth it.my only issue was the kitchen was not as clean as i would have liked
This rental exceeded our expectations in ever way. The pictures don't really provide a good representation of how large the house and property really are. Great location and kitchen had everything we needed. Private beach was great and sunsets were spectacular!!

The Perfect Beach House!
We had a wonderful time during our stay here. This really is the perfect beach house. The location can't be beat and the house is very charming. The owners were also wonderful to work with--very kind and helpful. I would recommend this house to anyone interested in a getaway on Lake Michigan. We will certainly consider this place for our next stop in South Haven!

Property is in a perfect location in South Haven. Short walk to the beach. Quiet neighborhood. About a mile from.downtown. My family had a nice time. The kids loved the beach.
Not suitable for anyone that is unable to climb stairs.

Great time
Our family loved our stay at this property. The accommodations were comfortable for our family and the house offered amenities to enhance our stay. The owners were helpful, as was the property manager.
The location - right on Lake Michigan - is our family's idea of heaven. Despite the weather (unseasonably cold and overcast), we enjoyed spectacular views of the big lake from morning to night. That alone made our stay very special.
We also loved getting a glimpse into our hosts' family through momentos, art work, and custom painted furniture. We could tell there was a large and loving family that owned this space which added immeasurable charm to the house.
Thanks Steve, Marion, and Terrie! We hope to return next year.....
We were looking forward to a relaxing vacation, it never was to be.
When we arrived, the security code given to us was incorrect. It took awhile to get the correct one. The cottage inside was very old and beat up. I don’t have a problem with old, but the carpet was fifth and the blinds were all bent. I think that is deplorable and there’s no excuse! To top it off, bats were getting in and that was all we could take!
The owner did refund me for the entire $ amount and I did appreciate it!
I would have to say that the description of the property is very accurate. There were so many knickknacks, Making it impossible for any cleaning crew to clean Thoroughly.
The deferred maintenance of the property also added to that problem. Most windows didn’t work. Having said that the house does have some charm to it. The beach is beautiful and close to everything! The beds were comfortable with nice soft linens . However, I would not recommend it for a small children, babies or anyone with any mobility issues.
This home was likely glorious in its hey-day; there is quite a bit of deferred maintenance, but the views, beach and location definitely make up for what it lacks for the most part. A little less knick -knacks (Victorian wall decor) would be better (at least for us. It seemed cluttered. But it is large and lots of steps. Overall decent.
A bunch of 50+ old guys on golf and relaxing on beach trip. Lots of bedrooms for everyone with plenty of bathrooms and almost everything you needed to make trip great. We cooked out twice and had plenty of utensils, etc. We have stayed their twice and will do it again next year.
This was a perfect location in the North Beach area of South Haven! Our kids loved having their own beach and there was so much room for the two families (of four) to enjoy. It is an old house but had a lot of character and was perfect for what we needed!

Amazing view and sunset
Loved the location on Lake Michigan and close to downtown south haven.
My daughter lives in Romeoville, Illinois and we were looking for a place not too far from her so she could travel back and forth. We found this lovely home steps away from the lake and fell in love with South Haven! The house is comfortable with many bedrooms for a large family. We were only a group of 5, but enjoyed spreading out and having plenty of space. The most wonderful aspect of this house is the incredible view and access to the lake right in front of you. We walked along the beach everyday! We will definitely be back! Marion, the owner, was always available to ask questions and checked on us during our stay.
This was the perfect place to stay for two families with toddlers! It was quaint, clean, spacious and had everything we needed! Because of covid we hardly left the property but that was not a problem. We spent most of our time down on the beach- we even rented a kayak and paddle board from a nearby place. The owner and property manager were both very friendly and quick to respond. I would definitely consider coming back again next year! Thanks
Wonderful lake house for our multi-family gathering
I echo all previous reviews, just read through them and they’ll give you all the details below. Our family doesn’t need anything fancy, just a nice place for everyone gather in one place that would fit our budget. Not only did this particular lake house deliver with that criteria, but it included our own personal beach on Lake Michigan with a million dollar view in the wonderful town of South Haven. The cherry on top was communicating with Marion the owner who was exceptionally accommodating to our individual needs and was immediate in her responses whenever I needed to communicate with her. Oh, and our dog Payton gives it “four paws up”!
This was our second year at the property. Same excellent experience as previously. We bring both the wife’s family and my family in on separate weekends/ weekdays. The house is large enough to accommodate all with plenty of space. We had no issues and the entrance exit was easy. Hard to find something with this view and sunset. Our well trained and behaved pets being allowed is huge to us as I travel so much for work and want to bring them on a vacation. Will seek to book again !
Relaxing, spacious place to stay on the lakefront. Perfect location!
We had a nice one-week stay at this home in the spring of 2019. I visited with my two grown sons and one of their friends and my mom. We found the home clean and as described in this listing. The owner and I communicated several times prior to and during our stay. She was accessible and kind.
The home is funky, imperfect and whimsically decorated. I liked it and felt comfortable there. The kitchen is very small. If you plan to use it I do recommend getting paper plates and cups for your stay. It's just so much easier than hand washing plates and cups. (Like a previous reviewer, I don't normally use them either. I just think it's so much easier here.)
I appreciated so very much that I could bring my two little dogs along. I loved having them with us. I brought a baby gate with me and that worked well. The whole first level of the home with the kitchen, dining area and porch has a painted concrete floor. The door-sized baby gate kept my dogs from going to the upper two levels, which are either carpeted or have hard-wood floors. I recommend this if you'd prefer that your dogs not have the run of the house.
I took the dogs down to the beach several times and they loved it. I should note that the grassy area on Michigan's coast has ticks. I pulled a few off of one of my dogs. I wished I had done a Frontline Plus treatment prior to our stay so that ticks wouldn't bite. Do spray and protect yourself as well prior to venturing down to the water.
We had two family members visit us while we were there and I appreciated having the extra sleeping space for them to stay with us. That was lovely.
We picked a cold, blustery week to visit, unfortunately. It was in the low 50s and there's no central heat at the house. There are space heaters available and plenty of blankets, though. My mom and I spent quite a bit of time cuddled with the dogs under blankets. We made do and it was kind of fun watching the wild wind whip the lake from the lower level.
My favorite part of the home is the expansive patio overlooking the lake. We spent lots of time out there reading and had a fabulous barbecue one night.
I wish I had learned earlier about a wonderful bakery/coffeehouse just five blocks from the home: Bunde's Bakery Cafe. They have Starbucks coffee there and the most wonderful hand-made pastries and scones. Check it out. Highly recommended!
Thank you so much for letting us stay at your home. We may well be back. :-)
This no frills property had all the essentials - enough bedrooms for loads of family & friends, plenty of common space and all the necessities for a great beach vacation in a wonderful resort town. The owners were super responsive. It was easy, relaxing and fun.

About the host
Hosted by Marion Fredman
Why they chose this property
On warm summer nights up to 16 of us would eat at picnic tables on the broad back patio as we watched the sun sink into Lake Michigan. After we had supped, a large posse of kids and grownups would amble down the sandy slope that led to the edge of the water and would dip their feet, and sometimes build a campfire. The home comes with a large stretch of beach deemed “private".
What makes this property unique
The house isn't air conditioned and the kitchen is small, but—frankly-- that just adds to the charm of this very comfortable, structure on the edge of the ocean like, “Big Lake”.Attached to the main dwelling there’s a large block house with two large clean showers and two large flush toilets. The property is on the city’s miracle mile; it’s easy to walk up the sand to the pier directly across the channel from the light house. A convenience store and beach rental shop are 3 blocks away, and it’s a short walk (maybe a mile) across the charming drawbridge to downtown with its restaurants, shops and activities. Lots of bedrooms. Not fancy. Don’t have to worry about scuffing the funky linoleum in the room that overlooks the lake front. WI-Fi Cable; TV; a great fit for 2 or more families vacationing together with their pack of young ones. and a short ride from a 33 mile bike trail that runs through farmlands and woods.
